Problems with power button instant lock when using "trusted devices" feature - Moto X Q&A

Problems with power button instant lock when using "trusted devices" feature
Im having an issue with locking my phone's screen. I have the option checked to instantly lock the phone when the power button is pressed. I need it to work this way so the phone is locked as soon as press the power button and put the phone in my pocket.
Well when i enabled the "trusted devices" feature the screen no longer locks instantly when i press the power button. This is causing my phone to come on in my pocket frequently.
I dont get it. The trusted devices feature is simply supposed to bypass my pattern lock when my Pebble Watch is connected. It is not supposed to stop the phone from locking the screen at all.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am having the opposite problem, but maybe I don't understand the settings. I have a pattern password on my device, I have a bluetooth usb in my desktop at home and I have it listed as a trusted device in my BT settings on the phone. When I hit the power button the screen locks but when I go to wake the device (sitting right at my computer the whole time) I get the pattern password screen. I thought it was supposed to bypass that if I set my PC as a trusted device. Any ideas?

lock the device immediate with pin code

Hi all
Now I've set the device to ask a pin code to lock the device after 30 minutes of being not used. Isn't there an option/way so the pin lock is immediately active when I want it to be (like pushing some seconds on the end button), using another hardware button or by executing some file?
I've tried to map '"\Windows\Keylock.exe" /toggle' to a hardware key (with an timeout of 0 minutes in settings - lock), but that just prompts the way the/which keys should be locked, as if you would execute keylock.exe without the '/toggle' parameter.
The question is.. what invokes the pin unlock screen to appear?
PS: best wishes for 2008!
hold end call for 3 seconds!
ekw, thanks for you answer but
pushing the end call button:
- doesn't activate/show the pin lock screen,
- any "child who can read" knows howto unlock the device.
the thing is that if it gets stolen, they need to do a hard reset so sensitive data (putted on the device instead of the SD) will be erased
I already tries S2U2 but that locks the device in the same 'security' level as pushing the end call button for some seconds and it mentions howto unlock it

Instant PIN Security
As noted in the first post, is there a way to get the phone to security lock on command, where you have to enter the pin to use it again?
I know you can hold down the end call button and get it to screen lock, but is there a way to get it to go into security lock?
I would like to turn the automatic settings off, so that the phone ONLY goes into security lock when I say it does, or, set it so that it only does it automatically like every three hours. That way, I can set it to go into security lock more often if I wish to.
Thanks!
if you turn the screen off using the power button,m and back on, does the lock not activate?
Or have you not told it to lock when waking from standy?

That works if you set auto lock on 0 minutes, but then you have to enter the PIN each and every time you turn the thing on. He wants it to lock only when he presses a lock key.
I unfortunately don't know of anything that does it.

Exactly. Thank you for your comments.
I don't want to have to enter the PIN every time I turn it on. Well, I know I can set it for an hour or longer and that would be fine.
But I want to be able to put it down, with the PIN code enabled, without worrying about random prying eyes looking into it or using it.
Anyone else have any thoughts??

[Q] Any way to lock keys as well?

My phone tends to turn off in my pocket due to the power button being held and then, somehow, the "turn off" on the screen clicked. Is there any way to make screen lock lock the physical buttons as well? So that clicking the power button turns the screen on like it does now but holding it doesn't make the window prompt. From what I see, there's no such option in the android itself so some app maybe?
our phone have only one physical lock button but you can use some application for lock the screen by tap the application's icon such as "screen off and lock" or "lock widget"
and you can unlock by home button also.
Oh, but what I meant was not that I want to lock/unlock without using the physical lock/power button. I'd like it to sustain its funcionality apart from the "hold" action when the screen is locked. It shouldn't open the window with flight mode/turn off etc. when the phone is locked. Do the mentioned above apps let me do this?
So there's no way to change the function of the power button?
The above applications can only lock your phone by tapping the screen, but to unlock without using the power button...mabye a developer can help you so he will make a lock application wich ignores the power button when the phone is locked and you could unlock it by pushing the home button(wich is harder to pres by mistake in your pocket).
Anyway, it could be a good application for Market, I dont think that you are the only person that has this problem.

Trusted bluetooth device not working?

So I've got a Pebble watch connected and enabled as a trusted bluetooth device but my phone keeps asking for my PIN to unlock it. Same thing happens when I'm connected to my UE Mini Boom speaker which is also enabled as a trusted device.
Any idea why this isn't working for me?
Nevermind. I figured out what the problem is and now I feel dumb. I use a widget for an app called Screen Off and Lock that turns my screen off without my having to hit the power button. The problem is that it also locks my phone even though I'm connected to my Pebble as a trusted bluetooth device. If I hit the power button to turn the screen off, it doesn't lock it and the trusted bluetooth feature works as intended.
Anyone know of a similar app that turns the screen off but does NOT lock the phone?

Android Auto WakeLocks

Hi,
I have discovered one problem (in my phone, stock ROM 5.1) with AA: When I start one voice command... after some time without using AA (some minutes driving with the car), sometimes the AA don't responds. The mic is stalled and the voice command isn't recognized. I discovered that the problem is that the phone is "Deep Sleep" mode... Then if I touch the power button, and the Lock Screen appears, then the voice commands restores normal behaviour.
So, I ask: It's a way to maintain the LockScreen on when AA is connected? I feel the power ins't a problem as the device is connected with the USB port.
Disable screen timeout ? Or enable "Stay Awake" in developer options ?
Or just unlock the screen and leave it at the dark "android auto" screen ? For bonus points, hit Recents, then Home to switch to the usual home screen.
AA puts the phone into car mode, which is usually enough to keep the screen on.
SmartLock
Look into "SmartLock" . Mark your car radio as a trusted connection and the phone will not lock as long as it is plugged into it.

Yes, thank you! I know, but I don't like to do this at all! Why? I don't like to "auto unlock" my phone... this is completly unsecure. I have a secure PIN and I like to use it all the time. So the problem, isn't the "lock" of the device, the problem is that it can enter in "deep sleep" or similar state when AA is running. I like to forbird this without unlock the phone.
Some other idea?

Smart Lock disable swipe to unlock

on my older phones (xperia xz1) there was an option to disable the lockscreen at all if the device is unlocked by the smartlock. this way i only need to press the powerbutton to get to the homescreen.
was i could not find any settings or apps: anyone knows a way to disable the lockscreen while smartlock has the device unlocked?

I have a Note 9 (SM-N960F) model.
Stock Firmware, no root.
Using Nova Prime launcher.
I have Fingerprint unlock and Smart lock enabled.
If i pick my phone up from sleep (locked)
i either press/swipe down
where my Home button (not visible) should be and phone goes directly to Homescreen.
Otherwise, i use Fingerprint unlockfrom "sleep" directly to home screen.
No need to press power button.
I'm sure this is better options.?
Only if you reboot phone or randomly sometimes (it's a security measure) I have to manually unlock.
This is the exact problem
Of your phone is already unlocked you still need to swipe up. I don't want to see any lockscreens at all. Why is this even implemented this way.
What I want is being able to use the phone without any unnecessary swiping after pressing the power button. (Razer phone 2 and Sony had an option for this)

i think you misunderstood my point.
I was trying to describe my button press action.
You don't actually swipe nothing.
You don't see the lockscreen, at all.
Call it press etc,
where the home button is.
It unlocks to Desktop.
You don't see the lockscreen at all.
From device sleep,
i "press " Home button
and device goes straight to Desktop.
Fingerprint it's the same. It goes straight to the Desktop.,
( You don't see a lockscreen)
Good luck
Yeah i got it
But that's the problem: you still need to swipe up the lockscreens if you try to unlock by the power button. Unlocking via Iris or fingerprint or pressing the invisible home button world great and you skip the lockscreens completely. But after pressing the power button the is 1 more action that is needed.
On the screenshot you can see (in German) "unlocked by smart lock" after trying to unlock with the power button

dont use the power button.
use the finger print or home button in conjunction with smart lock policy.
you'll get better milage off of the power button this way.
Yeah... Don't use the power button...
No sorry not an option ^^
Is one of the reason I don't use it, and also because I don't know the effective range.
But leaving the home button enable requires to let the "screen touch sensor" active so it will inevitably consume more battery am I wrong?
Are you on Oreo or Pie?
On Pie, this works fine for me. I press the power button, it unlocks with intelligent unlock and goes directly to the home screen/last app. No swipe needed. Does the same when I press the hard press home button.
If you're on Oreo, do what bober10113 says.
I am on Pie, and I am constantly getting the lock screen where it says unlocked by smart lock, but I still have to swipe.
