PC cannot read the Samsung Galaxy S (international) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I really need someones help.. really plz.
Im trying to root my phone because i wanted to fix the lag of it. having read and watch different method of rooting, i was convinced of using the superone click rooting which could be found also in our site. But the problem im experiencing is, the driver i have downloaded and installed is not working, i think. Because, whenever i tried to connect my phone in my laptop, it always say device is not recognized.
i have tried to use this driver (x86) because my laptop supports 32 bit OS
yet, my laptop is still not reading my phone. and since my laptop is not reading it, i couldnt perform the rooting via super one click
I really need anyones help here. Please, please.
Please tell me what to do.

You try install kies for drives? I had that problem too with drivers bcz my laptop x64 dont see sgs, but when i install samsung kies for only drivers it fixed, my problem.

Does ANYONE know how to make Kies work with Windows 7 x64 bit ? Is there a hack ?

Anyone know how to get Kies working with windows 7 x64 bit ?
Please help i need to use it to update and get my 3 button combo working.
Any ideas ?
No hack matey. Simply need to install the 64 BIT drivers. I myself am on Windows 7 64 BIT for the extra RAM recognition. Kinda sucks that 32 BIT can only recognise 1.75GB of RAM. I think I installed them from here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
It's phone specific, these are the Galaxy S drivers, so make sure you Google 'Your Phone Model, 64 BIT Windows 7 Drivers'. Install these, reboot, connect your phone to PC and launch Kies on your phone. Kies should start on your PC automatic, but sometimes requires a prompt to start. Make sure you use the Samsung Kies connection manager for the first time connecting your phone. These drivers will also work with Odin for flashing your phone, and I believe they will work with ABD although I don't use that.
REF, took the drivers from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
I have windows 7 x64 and Kies running without any problems...
Its working great fir me. What problems are you facing?

No problems with kies also over here @ x64... just installed kies the way you normally do
Yeah, some people have to install the drivers manually, depends on the RC and Windows Update. Check the drivers post if anyone is having any problems!
trying now - removed kies too and dl the newest version ill let you know if this works
cheers mate

Well basically I installed Kies, and when I connect my phone, from the List i select Kies, and it says on my pc drivers failed to install, and on my phone it just does the MTP screen thingy and it disappears, over and over again.
I can't connect my phone at all. It sucks because I really need use Kies so I can get my 3 button combo working and really mess around with the phone.

Did you install usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip
???
HERE
Kies works fine on my Windows 7 64Bit Professional.

It's not Kies that is your problem mate.
MTP flashing on the Galaxy S means you have a program on the phone causing the problem. 16 digit file extensions is the issue. You can try unmounting the internal and external memory cards.
You can try formating the internal memory.
You can use a program which is available to search for the 16 digit file extention issues and delete the folders/files it finds.
Make sure you don't have an alternate launcher started as well. Kies doesn't like it.
try uninstalling it than install the version from samsung website
here is the link:

Got it working for him, he said hes going to make a donation to me . Hope so, need to pay for university! Great guy to teach, learns fast, and showed him how to update to JPH 2.2.
I have a problem with kies as well, MTP flashing.
Where can I find this app that removes 16 digit file extensions etc?
From day one I havent been able to connect to kies.

I'm trying to upgrade my adroid OS to Froyo. When I connect my Samsung Galaxy S to my laptop running Windows 7, it says installing device drivers. After about 5 seconds it says
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device Failed.
Windows 7 is not recognising the phone, but Windows XP recognises it straight away. Has anyone had this problem previously or have any idea what could be preventing 7 from recognising the phone? Annoying to say the least!
Actually, what i've done was just reset the phone to factory setting n evrything came back to normal..what u have to do is
1. download a backup apps from market, backup evrythg (reset will clear the setting n system only..photo, mp3 and apps folder will remain there in sd..)
2. Disable lagfix (if any)
3. then reset the phone to factory setting.
4. Reboot n u can connect your phone to pc as normal again.
This steps take less then 10 minutes (plus 5minutes to restore evrythg) n much2 better than to search the best way to fix the problem..
The case is,something wrong in our phone..should be one of the listed in our 'googles' or no one knows it..so better take this way,n yes,u are going to upgrade it anyway..lol,no harm!!

If there was an issue with the phone, it wouldn't connect to any PC. The fact that Windows XP recognises is straight-away tells me there is an issue with my PC's OS. I am experiencing an odd situation, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 KB976932 has several updates bundled together 200+MB, 1 of the updates 44BM will not configure error 0x800F8026. I'm hoping someone familiar with the Update log in Windows 7 forum can makes some sense of it and come up with a solution! In the meantime I'll percevere.
I dont know if we have the same problem..mine was another galaxy s can connect to my win7 but the other cannot..i used all the methods found in google to solve the problem in my phone..but none of them helping..fed up with that, so i reset my phone..problemo solved
Anyway, hope someone knows can tell it here..

The problem or problems lie with my laptops OS. I did a factory setting restore on my phone, but still getting the error.

Hi and welcome,
Since you don't Look familiar with flashing, the best/secure way to update your device is Kies.
First you have to do is to make kies working properly. To do so uninstall your previous version and reboot your PC.
Then download the last Kies directly from samsung website, install it (follow all usual screen tips). Open Kies, click on tools > drivers install, wait till it's finish, reboot on more time.
When the PC up again, Launch kies, plug your SGS USB cable, kies should detect your device and provide you an update, just follow the howto on screen.
Be sure:
- nothing more than kies running during the process.
- Use the Samsung stock USB cable!.

I recomend you to read this link over and over again so you rly understand the risk of flashing. And then think if you want to do it.

If your on Windows 64 bit your going to need the 64bit drivers or else Kies won't recognize your phone. for windows 7, it automatically does this for you(atleast it did for me). Once you've done that, the rest is just through kies.

Kies choose the driver properly and alone during the install, 64 or 32bit. So he have nothing more to do.

Help upgrading my firmware on Captivate!

So ive spent the last 6 hours or so trying to get kies v 1.5 and kies mini to recognize my phone to upgrade my firmware. Im still running ECLAIR2.1 !!
Ive tried everything including using TW launcher and playing around with the different usb settings. Kies mini wont recognize it and kies v 1.5 did recognize it but when i started the upgrade process it said no response from server, please check if your internet connection is activated!!
This is extremely frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated. My phone is a rooted rogers i896 version.
Try rebooting phone/ computer or reinstalling kies, maybe it don't like you right now
Try kies mini. Also, uninstall any Samsung drivers first, then reinstall the specific drivers that kies mini requires. You might also need to turn usb debugging on. This lays it all out nicely:

Alright so i uninstalled everything then reinstalled kies mini and tried usb debugging on/off. Still no luck i dunno what else i can do this is ridiculous

Try a different USB port!

Haha no dice. Tried on win 7 32 bit and win xp pro doesnt work on either

If its win7 or xp pro
Try right click Kies ,run as administrator.. it worked for me, it was slow to respond at first
Have you ever flahed an I9000 ROM on it? If you have, that would have changed your product ID code in the nv_data.bin file, therefore making it not recognizable in Kies.
If you haven't done this, I don't know what the problem is. Sorry. But I suppose there's a thread somewhere here that can fix it.
You need to only have kies mini. You can't have kies and kies mini for it to work.

Sounds like you need to flash back to stock first. Here's a link to a guy's thread that should help out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133
After this, I think you will be ok.
If all you wanted to do was get 2.2 firmware, he also has a version of that, so kies wouldn't be needed.
Thanks ill try that once im off work

Rooting without USB possible?

Hello guys,
I have now tried for the last 8 hours to connect my phone via USB to my computer without any success.
I have read many threads concerning this problem but by now I just assume that my USB port is partly broken as I have tried all the solutions and none worked for me.
I can still charge the phone but windows isn't even showing that a device has been connected. Twice of probably thirty times windows showed me that an unknown device has been connected for a couple of seconds and then the phone isn't connected anymore.
I would like to root my phone and would like to know if there is a possible way to do it. Some say it's possible (depending on the Firmware already installed), some say it isn't.
My i9000 phone has:
Firmware 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9
[email protected]#1
Build Number Froyo.XWJPA
I hope you guys can help me, I am getting desperate...
Try this : http://www.unlockroot.com/
Here is the drivers : http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Hey guy,
did you install Kies on your Computer? Your PC need the latest USB Samsung drivers. Note that you couldn't install Samsung drivers for newer devices like the Galaxy 9000 on Windows 2000 or older. You also have to look for the right drivers for your system. Maybe you did install x86 driver on 64 bit system or x64 drivers on 32 bit system.
Driver solution:
Go to settings, system and look for the hardware manager or simply check the "windows brenchmark settings" (included in vista and win7).
Try to follow that instruction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542633
Note:
If you have a working USB connection, you should search for flashing instructions because flashing is always on your own risk! It isn't hard to learn but you have to know which risks are there. Don't be scared by faults they can be undone (mostly).
Flashing:
First you should upgrade your phone to an early Gingerbread (3.2) build. Just search for "Gingerbread Stock Rom" or use "Darky's Resurrection" package. You'll find them here on XDA or in the world wide web
If you get trouble you'll get support here but first you should read about flashing and rooting.
best regards
As I told you I think that my USB port is damaged and hence I can't establish a usb connection to my phone.
I tried several drivers, Kies, different settings, simply everything which was already discussed.
My Galaxy will not even show up as an "unknown device" in my Windows 7 32bit (of course I used 32bit drivers).
Unlockroot requires me to connect the Galaxy via USB to the computer, so I can't use that.
Any other suggestions?
If your using a acer computer and you have never reinstalled window than it more than likely wont work. But you can google apps like z4root and universaland root i think thats what its called.
