[Q] NC CM7 (Tab Tweaks) + GPS + Apps - Nook Color Accessories

I'm going to be going on a trip in about a month and I would like to be able to use GPS from my NC. I don't have an android smartphone so i cant just use my phone. (I have an ENV3) haha.
I would just like to know what type of hardware I need in order to get GPS to be received on the NC. Also what apps would go best with this setup?
Try to be cheap please! Thanks for all input.

Thanks. Should have looked!

why is gps so important
Of all the possibilitys of the NC can anyone speak to why it dominates the disscussios?
I am more interested in battery up-dates/grades, signal boosting, and ironing out whether or not we will be using them as cell phones(so tiered of having useless phone "options in the rims and inthe markets)

I do not think that the nook has a microphone. With skype and a bluetooth headset however, there may be a shot.

won't work even with BT mic - not equipped to handle incoming sound

Do any of the ROM's improve car bluetooth integration?

I have the Cingular 8125, and a 2007 Camry Hybrid with Nav. This car has built-in bluetooth, and my phone works with it, but there is a display on the Nav screen that shows the phones signal strength and battery charge level. These do not work for my phone.
Do any of the ROMs implement this feature (being able to display the signal level and battery state remotely via bluetooth)?
Thanks!
did some work for you... go here, put in your phone model

seems it is not supported for this feature.

I was just wondering if a ROM update might be able to remedy this fact. I guess not!

No VOIP/SIP Client in official WM6 Rom?

I couldn't find it, is there any way to install it?
I had the same question. I have a wing and it didn't include VOIP. Was hoping the Official HTC ROM will include VOIP. I have trired WM6VOIP.cab and Majik VOIP.cab on my wing. None of them work. With the WM6VOIP.cab I cant even connect. With MajikVOIP.cab everything seems to work other than that I cannot hear the person I am calling.
Why not using Fring (www.fring.com) ?

BTW - there is still NO cahnce to get the sound out of the internal telefon speaker. It still comes out of the external speaker. You have to use a headset.
And often that are the provider settings that make the VoIP searching status
SOrry.
I can also confirm that Internet Calling is very hard to find in the official rom.
Hope that there will be some sort of a solution...
Tried the bluetooth headsets

for using the bluetooth headset you need to use something like telksoft or other that will direct the bluetooth sound to your headset.
lol
Does anyone have an idea whether it will be possible somehow to enable Internet Calling?

With this 2 cab provided by me it was running fwith my Terra!!!
But it is difficult sometimes to fidn the right settings for the provider.
I have got it working with the suggested cabs of papamopps:
WM6VOIP.cab
SipConfigTool_2_0_0.CAB
I don't know if it's working completely though.
The SIP-connection is registered, and I have completed an incoming call.
But on the Today screen, It says "Musimi.dk: Searching...". (Musimi.dk is my SIP-provider).
I have not yet been able to make an outgoing call through the Internet Calling.
I cannot get it working with GRPS ... only Wifi :-/

Wouldn't it be too expensive with GPRS anyway?
I have done some more testing.
I had someone call me on through the SIP connection. The quality was pretty bad. The volume was low, so I had a hard time hearing the other person.
And I'm not sure if the sound came from the external speaker or what?
UPDATE:
The sound quality might not be that bad. But the problem seems to be that the sound is coming from the external speaker.

Turn by Turn speech cuts off when using navi

This isn't a major issue, I guess, but it bugs me. When using the navi with google maps on my nook I'm having an issue where the woman's voice cuts off the last 1 or 2 words in her directions. For example, if I was going to be turning onto Beaumont Center Ln, her speech cuts off after Beaumont Center. I forget what else it was saying this morning but I think it cut off the last 2 words. Has anyone else had this happen or know a fix?
No I don't, but may I ask you how you're getting coordinates? Are you getting GPS from your Android phone?
It's not cutting off in my video here...

I use the TetherGPS app and provide the wifi and gps from my phone. Everything else works fine, I'm just not sure what's causing the glitch in speech.

Sweet. I see you are running the 2.1 rom, maybe it's rom thing. I am running one of the earlier cm7 nightlies, just because I have it working so good. Otherwise I would update to a newer one, I may try that this weekend.

O2X WiFi Connection to AVM Fritz!Box

[email protected] all,
I'm interested in replacing my HTC Topaz with an O2X within the next two months.
A German Computer Magazine (Computer Bild) tested the phone (Test in German language) and had a connnection issue with the Phone to an in Germany often used WiFi Router (AVM Fritz!Box 7270 and 7390).
Just to make clear what they wrote to all who are not speaking German: In the 2nd sentence under the caption "Internet-Verbindung und Firmware" (internet connection and firmware) they said: "With already known WiFi-Networks it usual connects automatically, but in the test it refused the connection to the popular routers Fritz Box... at least with the firmware FRG83 which was the actual one during the test".
Is anyone of the O2X Owners online with the phone via an AVM Fritz!Box? Is there still an issue with the WiFi connection to these routers? This is important to me since I'm also using an AVM router and want to use the phone together with it.
Cheers
Zap
Works fine here but I'm connected via an 7170
Don't believe the Blödzeitung...
there's word floating around the net that some O2X have issues handling large passkeys on wireless networks. Maybe thats their issue as well

Thanks! Good to hear. I have a 7240 (the sister model of the 7270 which has no phone input jacks), it is a bit newer technology in comparison to the 7170 (had one, great stuff ), but the differences won't be THAT big I think...

I think this was the problem, maybe they've had set up the standard password of the Fritz!Box (that is usually written on the backside of the device, consisting of 16 letters/numbers) and which was too long for the O2X...
Well, conclusion: Better using a shorter password for the box and everything is fine...
Thanks to all!

can't get a GPS fix at all

Recently I've flashed CM 10.1.3 (stable version). Everything is pretty much great (except battery...it's draining pretty fast but I'm ok with that since I got a portable charger).
But the number one thing that is annoying me the most is that I can't get a gps fix no matter what. It doesn't matter whether I'm indoors or outdoors, or what app I'm using (waze, Google maps, etc.), or what "gps fixing" apps I installed. I just can't get a freaking gps lock anywhere!
Before I flashed this ROM, the gps didn't really work well but at least it worked...
I've searched the entire world wide web (obviously started from XDA) and found some interesting answers but none of them helped me even a bit.
Is this a known issue in cm 10.1.3 or is it just me?
thanks in advance
I recently have CM 10.1.3 on my 4X HD l don't have that issue... Try flash rom again.

This looks promising... I will report back if it worked for me or not, as soon as I get off work.
thank you to all of you guys for answering!!
Ok so I've tried modifying the gps.conf like deepmanu suggested, but still couldn't get a gps fix at all.
I know that LG screwed up with the gps in this device and that it is so sensitive that even if I replace the ROM
(I don't think that the CM team played with the gps files), it won't work at all.
Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? because right now the only solution that I'm think about is getting a nexus 5 or something =\

I managed to get my GPS working better by tweaking the gps.conf file, but nothing wonderful. If I am sat in my car I get almost no signal, yet my Nexus 7 is high-quality, 13 sats and almost instant lock. The GPS chip/receiver is crap in our device and that is why I will never buy an LG again. Apart from the GPS I love my phone, but that is too important a part for me.

Thought about it, but changing the baseband to a lower version means to compromise on lower quality phone calls and these kind of stuff.
And I'd rather have a terrible gps signal with great phone calls quality, than the other way around.

Maybe it's not the best chip, but still good enough. Samsung Galaxy S2-series phones all have a way worse receiver, I was barely getting any signal without network.
Problem with custom roms is that nearly all of them only include the very basic necessary configuration. See CM gps.conf and stock gps.conf (included in Omni), there's a big difference. I don't say this switch did wonders (it wasn't bad at all before too), but surely stabilizes signal.

You can't. To connect to an External GPS source is an immediate violation of the Ingress ToS and the app will refuse to launch. This is to assist, at least partly, in stopping players from spoofing their location to cheat.
So, you can connect to an external GPS source, but you can't play Ingress while doing so.

I know, I have the same problem with mine no matter what I do. I normally just end up using my N7 tethered instead.

The best thing I have found is to make sure you fully close the Ingress app (Sign out and clear it from memory) when you get to the new location, then restart it and see if it works - that sometimes seems to force the app to acquire a GPS location quicker. Other than that, buy a different phone - not ideal I know.
