This is a HUGE oversight by LG, as when the back case is on the pictures are kind of contrasty or wishy washy. With the case OFF the pictures are sharp and vibrant.
So My question is, has anybody removed and replaced the clear plastic on thier back case ? If so what did you replace it with ?
dude just clean the damn cover glass...... alcohol and cotton is the trick.
OP is right. The pictures without the back on are 10 times better. I think it is half to do with the plastic being a poor filter lens and half that it picks up fingerprints and smudges really easily.
I'd prefer not to carry a swab kit everywhere I go in case I want to get a decent picture.
seems that removing the back cover is one of the phones main features at the moment
Same issue as when I had my nokia 5800, pictures taken with the rear cover off looked better than with the rear cover on.
They should of used a proper glass lense than some cheap plastic.

i will try it when i get a new battery cover but now i wont dmg my one
I'm thinking of cutting a UV filter down to size and replacing mine. As no matter how much you clean that plastic, the pictures are always contrasty.
does anybody know if there are CHEAP replacement backs for sale anywhere. I do really mean CHEAP so gotta be under £10, I've seen them for £20+ which is too dear to buy just to try and replace the plastic.
everybody that knows a little about optics will tell you the same, LG made a huge design compromise/sacrifice there and I just can't see why they chose to. particularly because there's absolutely no need for the lower casing to go all the way up. relocate the SD card slot and they could've done with half the height and gave the lens some decent housing. ah well... for every light there's a shadow. at least this way the lens/chip gets some astonishing amount of light even in low light conditions, but the trade off in raw picture quality is huge.
Easy to fix, just take drilling machine and make a small hole, I will do it but cant find the drill

i was thinking about removing the plastic outside, and put an optic cut piece of glass and put it in the inside of the back cover so it protect lens, but doesn't get diry easily...
what you think? will it work?
Could you in theory get a screen protector that covers the lens area and use that to repel fingerprints and dirt? I saw this in another thread and it looks like you get a protector for the lens cover

I had the same idea and made an awesome mod! ^^

Well, no, i havent done this on purpose, my o2x fell down and the glass broke.
Yes, its glass. And its glued. I had to pull off the glass in little pieces, maybe its easier when its heated.
Then i put black nail polish on it. Not really beautifull, but its ok, and im looking for a new cover anyway.
Any hints where i can get this? thx
Just go to your local Swarovski shop and get a plate of 200gr clear glass, then go to your local Diamond cutting shop and tell them to cut it so it fits... and there you go.. it will only cost you around 3500 euros but what the hell, you will have astonishing pictures after that...

right... im thinking about the dust hitting the sensor
Just clean it once a week with mild de-greasing solution. Regular glass cleaner works for camera and glass (pull back cover off, take care of inside too), I use even Tuff Stuff foam, microfibre cloth and cleaning wipes and it's all good. Just finish it with soft cotton cloth on lens and "glass"
My wish would be to have a slide cover over the lens, then you would not need a glass in front of the lens. If there should be a third party back cover with a slide cover, I would buy it yesterday!

Hi guys,
I was wondering if this type of case exists
The samsung gsIII has a cover that replaces the back cover and adds a flip cover to it so it doesnt add extra thickness to the back.
If not I was actually thinking of taking one of the chinese flip covers (the magnetic ones that go all the way around the nexus and hold with a magnet) and removing the plastic casing and just using an adhesive to the back of the nexus and just taping the smart cover portion onto it so it barely adds thickness but still keeps the smart cover feature.
Basically this shows my idea, I already have this case and I took the main part off the plastic and just want to stick it onto the back of the N7. So any ideas peoples

Not 100% what I was looking for. I thought about the official N7 cover but it still adds thickness to the back and it doesnt have the option to turn into a stand for the tablet. Thats why I like the Samsung GSIII cover, it just replaces the battery cover with one that has a flip cover attached so it doesnt add any thickness. Either way I have the one i pictured above just in gray and already took the flip part off the plastic now i just need to find the best way to attach it to the back of the nexus
You need to find the same sort of adhesive patch on that cheap case I linked to. Its permanently glued to the case and has a peel off protector on the other side. It's very tacky, like the glue on a screen protector. And like them it doesn't leave a residue behind. It took me 3 tries to get the TPU case onto the leather case where I wanted and no residue was there between attempts. Of course I have no clue where you'd get such a glue pad by itself unfortunately.

Anyone knows how to replace that part of RAZR I, the glass one, where is located the camera, flash, etc?
I would try to buy the replacement part but don't know how to change.
They sell the phone's whole back part on ebay. I can't get the link right now, but it only costs like twenty bucks, it's all a matter of replacing the whole back. Just unscrew the torx heads and you should be able to do it. I can't guarantee it'll work, but it's probably your best shot. Good luck!

Hi.
The glass is glued with a dubbled-sided adhessive. It is no problem to remove it. You just have to be carefull around the speaker, not to remove the speakergrill.
I would recommend to use a plastic tool to avoid scratches on the outer housing.

have you replaced your glass already? did you used the double sided tape? if you bought only the glass was it made of thick glass or just a silly plastic? I have a complete back cover replacement and thinking of taking down the glass and have mine replaced with that. But I don't have the double sided tape. will it work with glue (i.e. have the same height with the rest of the back of the phone)?
Yes I did; only replaced the broken glass part over lens, flash. In the set I got there was a glass (no plastic), double-sided tape, it was piece of cake replacing - except that I did not clean the lens good enough, got since ugly pics with spots on..

Well, basically I used a sharp knife/cutter. My glass was quite broken, so I took it out piece by piece. You just have to be careful with around the camera and speaker.
I also have a spare back cover with glass. If you want I can help you. I am not using it anymore, as I sold my phone.
Glass removed with a pincet, glass just put in place -finds its way.

Great to see it in action. Now it's just the phone that's missing. But I think the back cover goes on the back or the phone and not on the case itself. Since plastic on glass will create those smudge effect that doesn't look too good tbh.
Got my cases shipped 18th of March but guess it takes abit longer to ship to Sweden than the US. Got the Crystal Clear and Smoke Crystal.

I actually had no idea these things came with clear protectors for the back. Only complaint I have is that they don't fit around the camera and flash/health sensor very well, and will be distracting if the phone's out of the case at any point. And if you want to temporarily switch cases, the poor cutout will be distracting. Almost perfect, but just barely disappointing :T
At the same time, though, I'm not sure if other companies offer that back adhesive.

You guys should seriously consider the Spigen NeoHybrid. Back of case is ruberized. Sides of case, meaning total peripheral is metal. Actually feels superb to hold and you still have that sense of a metal body the naked GalaxyS6 Edge comes with. Nice larger cutouts for headphone plug as well as USB for those with larger connectors. Absolutely no regrets. I did NOT opt for the optional free front screen protector. I like the look and feel of a phone with the screen as is.

I mentioned this to Spigen, they said it's so that it doesn't catch on the case?? Not sure how that's possible, as I'm fairly sure they could have made it go right to the edge of the glass and not have any issues with the case, but oh well, maybe (I hope) they tried that before making them in this smaller size
Is it mandatory to place the back screen protector when using this case? Will the case actually scratch the back glass? Thanks in advance.
you have to decide if its worth it to you to be protected, or you don't care..frankly, since I will probably jump in 6 months to the next great thing, I don't care if the back of the phone has a few scuffs, since it doesn't affect the ability to jump with T mobile. Plus, who stares at the back of their phone anyways..
I did put it on anyways, since it was there, and I figured might as well.
But if you buy it outright, or plan on keeping the phone for a while, you might feel differently

Hi, I'm looking for tempered glass protectors for the rear camera lenses but there don't seem to be any listed for the P20 Pro yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Certainly don't think it's a good idea to stick anything on the lenses. Most cases will help by reducing the amount the lenses stand proud but I haven't come across any that effectively counter sink them. The ideal solution would be a case with some form of removable 'lenses cap'. It is a potential problem and I keep making the mental effort to keep my index finger lower down the back of the phone.

I bought one from aliexpress but it was scratched within the first few days. My case is only slightly above, if not even with, the lens so I guess it should be fine but it definitely makes me nervous given that one of the main reasons I bought this phone is the camera. I suppose the perennial question is whether to put up with a worse user experience in order to have some sort of insurance, in the same way I do with the screen protector on the front.
I agree with others here... You dont need protectors over your camera lens. In fact the camera has a glass cover over the lens iris itself... also, the glass that covers the lens is usually sapphire crystal, which is tougher than glass, so it cant be scratched by normal means.. other than sillica or sand..
By adding a "cover" or coating over the lens, you run the risk of altering the way light passes through the glass to the lens iris, which could lead to focus issues, mis-read metering, chromatic aborration and filter problems...
Like others are saying here.. if you buy a good quality case, then it should have a camera cut out which protects / over reaches the camera hump..
Ive been a photographer for 20 years and have owned Canons, Nikons & Fujis and I have never stuck some foreign material on my camera lens glass.. I have lens caps and carry a cleaning cloth, but would never stick a protector on it..
If youve read somewhere that you should do this or someone has advised you too... theyre selling you rubbish and trying to make a quick buck out of you and you will damage your lens / phone / gear.
Any photographer will tell you this
The came a lens seems to scratch easily on this phone
I have been using this phone for a while taking good care for it and making sure I handle it well and put it down on clean surfaces. However after putting the phone down, on smooth surfaces only, the back camera has managed to get scratched very close to the camera (I was very lucky). I'm looking for a solution because I don't want to have to get the camera replaced after not using the phone for a long time.
superFred
Never stick anything to your camera lens. It is likely to cause more distortion than any scratch would because if focusing distances, scratches will never be in focus.
Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk
I have the E Kinlin from aliexpress and so far no deterioration of image quality not any focusing issue I can see. I would rather have peace of mind than a scratched lens as I value the camera on this phone. I had earlier scratched my Nokia 1020 lens so am wary of this.
The glass covering my P10 pro was scratched up after a year, a lot of micro scratches. Pictures still came out well, but I suspect that the glass on these cameras is just as susceptible.
This is what mine looks like after 6 days
Used in the case they supplied it with.
Broke one morning. No idea how it happened. Was in padded phone pocket in an Osprey rucksack or in my pocket (on it's own).

None of the cases I've seen seem to protect the lens properly.
I am going to modify a case with some sugru to make a "lip" around the cutout until a decent case appears.
Maybe Huawei released the phone specs/design to case manufacturers before Huawei realised how far out the cameras would protrude?
I posted on another thread also but i found a replacement lens cover here (ive not tried it yet)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lots-OEM...-For-Huawei-P20-P20-Lite-P20-Pro/113025697876
A bit excessive using lens protector lol
I have had the phone for a week now. It's a nice phone but I'm paranoid about scratching the camera. I spent a couple of hours looking at camera protectors and am concerned about image distortion with flash. I see a lot of complaints about that, though I do see many posts saying that there is no problem. I was thinking that a case with built-in camera protection would be great. I saw this:
https://www.amazon.com/Nillkin-CamS...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JV55AX2C6Y5TM9QFN4AP
It has a door that slides over the camera when not in use. It looks like a thin case though, and that it might have a problem with actually protecting the phone from drops. I also would have concerns that sliding the door over the camera might actually scratch it if there is any grit under the door.
Does a good case with camera protection even exist?
Just get a case with a good camera lip and pick up a cheap 3 dollar Dbrand skin for the camera to protect against scratches...
That's what I did....forget the glass protectors...

Thanks. I also found this, but having anything resting on the camera glass that could shift around at all seems like a really bad idea.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...RQTW5&linkId=4520f894a6e6f81d63a176dffe09616e
I tend to shy away from cases like this bc dirt, debris can sneak in there given enough time....and may end up scratching the glass.

You can pick up just the camera skin and it'll do the trick for scratch protection...

You can pick up just the camera skin and it'll do the trick for scratch protection... View attachment 5132165

That looks like what I want. Any recommendations?
I recommend going to dbrands website. They have a tool that lets you see what it would look like on your phone. They have about 15 or so skins for the camera bump.

I suggest one of the metal camera screen protectors from Amazon.

Interesting. There is no chance that something metal will damage the camera glass?

Samsung has a lense protector built into the rear cover.
Simply find a good case that has raised edges around the cam module.
Try to keep your fingers off of it ie don't use it to grab the phone out of your pocket. Clean occasionally with a dry microfiber cloth.
I've been using the Bolt case for my 10+, easy to grip, great drop protection and doesn't attract dirt.
The phone's cam lense cover doesn't have even a slight scratch after over a year... and I live in the desert.

There's a layer of adhesive on the protector so the metal never actually touches the glass.
This is the case I'm using. It has total protection for cameras: https://www.shopmoment.com/products/galaxy-thin-case/note-20-ultra

What is ESR in this case? I checked message which you quoted and did not find any ESR mentions.
