Yahoo messenger or Oovoo on Vegan Tab 5.1.1 - G Tablet Themes and Apps

Hi, I'm a gtab-newbie here and was wondering if anyone had any luck using either yahoo messenger or oovoo with Vegan-tab 5.1.1. I did spend some time going through the threads and saw some posts about people using Yahoo messenger with video successfully on the forums but was not able to gather if that was on Vegan-tab 5.1.1/Froyo.
For me, voice calls work with Skype etc. But when I try to make a video call with either Yahoo or Oovoo, the video quality is so-so and the audio just makes a loud clicking noise. I also tried Reelportal between a laptop and the gtab and the video and sound both work (although the audio suffered from a lot of echos).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I went from 3389 stock to Vegan-tab with no modifications since.

Echo will be fixed when Adobe release a new version of AIR that supports echo cancellation. They currently have beta version for the desktop.
What you can do is use Skype for audio, while simultaneously use ReelPortal for video only. The audio and video streams are independent from each other.

I use yahoo for video chat on 5.1.1 with no issues at all

Video chat software?

Hello guys,
this is my first post, so a little about me and my device:
I'm from Italy and I've got my Tytn II (Vodafone PDA 1615) few days ago.
I've already got rid of the original Vodafone ROM and loaded the updated HTC WM6.1 ROM.
I'm very happy with it and it allows me to do almost everything I need to for my job (checking emails, browse the Net, check my office servers and if needed, connect remotely to them).
I was thinking that it would be very nice to have a video chat software using the front camera as a webcam, do you know if something like that exists?
Thanks.
Aleph

Skype Instead?
Does anyone have Skype working on the kaiser?
The only reason that I suggest Skype instead of VZOChat is because the other person has to have VZOChat - more people have Skype.

[Q] Why Don't Streaming Apps work?

The following apps don't seem to work on my G-Tablet:
Streamfurious
imsdroid
sipdroid
(Apparently, sipdroid may just be an audio issue)
Others have said that certain other video/audio streaming apps or VoIP apps don't work.
They all seem to have network streaming in common. Is there a framework or something missing from the G-Tablet? If so, perhaps we can provide it in one of the unofficial f/w's

i can streamtalk radio
I use TuneIn radio, UPnPlay, and they both work. Iheartradio seems to not work with anything anymore, but has stations i like. Streaming seems ok here.
Interesting. Iheartradio works for me on my EVO 4G. So does the Xiiaalite (or whatever the shoutcast renamed streamer is now).
I got Xiiaalite to work briefly the other day. Then after about 5 minutes it said it kept buffering. Iheartradio did the same but never started.
I believe it *MIGHT* have something to do with the ads being taken away. I'm just guessing. Or a broken pipe somewhere, but that wouldn't make sense if some other streamers are able to do it.
**Correction** i Reverted Adfree back and Xiialivelite still doesn't work, nor does i heart radio (((
I've tried to find a TV/video streamer that works with no joy SBP TV most notably doesn't work though the app is running fine on my PDN. Crystal TV and others all give me the same problem in that they seem to be unable to open the video or audio streams.
I'm running TNTlite 2.0.2
Slaterman
Someone suggested in the Slingplayer thread that disabling stagefright fixes slingbox streaming. I wonder if it would work for other streaming apps.

I'll have to try that. Anyone here a VLC user? I can't seem to get it to work either with any of the apps out there on the market.
I'm using TVersity to do my streaming. It has a flash interface that works quite nicely. It's not exactly what I want but it gets the job done. It's a little bit of a pain to setup, but it's the only solution I was able to get consistently working.
I had trouble getting the Slacker app to stream. I'm running a TnT Lite which has a modified /etc/hosts file to reduce ads, so I edited /etc/hosts and took out all of the "extra" entries that roebeet put in and it works fine, now.
I understand there's an app in the Market that will do this for you if you're not comfortable editing /etc/hosts or just don't know how to do it. Supposedly you install the app and then click on Revert.
Gmote works to stream your PC media
Gmote is the only app I've found that streams video from my home media PC to the Gtab.
AndroStream and VLC Stream and Convert, will stream over RTSP, but Gtab only plays audio.
Stream with Orb Live
I got used to the OrbLive app. That thing works great on my EVO, anyone have any idea why it cant work on the GTAB ?
FWIW I'm streaming my home audio library with AudioGalaxy just fine on vegan beta 3.
With Orb, I had much better luck avoiding the app and just logging in at mycast.orb.com and using the web interface. I found that setting the User Agent in Dolphin HD to Android made it easier to use. I was even able to stream movies from my NAS, which is pretty cool!

I am running an MT-DAAP server at home and the DAAP program from the market loads and streats great on the Tab running Vegan.
I haven't tried any video streaming since there is no Myth front end for Android yet.

Video Chat?

Has anyone been able to use any type of video chat with the GTab yet? I havent seen any posts for it........
You haven't? There's probably four topics about it. As of right now, the only one I've found to work is Yahoo Messenger with the video add on.
fring is another that works but the audio for me is really bad, also it only seems to work when you chat with another fring account... video does not seem to work with any of the federated clients(msn, gtalk).

New Vid Chat app...Android to PC enabled

I just read about this app. I can't find it in the market though the article said it should be available. I thought I'd share.

I couldn't find it in the market on my GTab, but found it on my phone. I'll try side loading it tomorrow. Good find. Thanks for sharing.

tried it on the Tab (VegaN ROM) and wouldn't open. Doesn't mean that there's another way to load it. I'll keep trying as i'd love a good vid chat app.
Wouldn't open on my Hero either.
Bump...
I've tried ooVoo as well but it closes as fast as it opens. I find it hard to believe that there is no real, workable video chat option. I've unsuccessfully tried:
ooVoo
Yahoo Messenger w/ Video add on
Qik
Fring
I'm in the middle of talking my in-laws in PA in to getting a gTab but it's less justified w/o the video chat option. Has anyone tried other solutions?
I agree... I haven't found anything that works like Skype does on the computer. We used to use Skype on the Laptops a lot for video chats with family and when I am away from home on work. I was really hoping I could find a decent solution for the tablets, but nothing really works well. I thought Qik might have been the answer, but that doesn't work well either.

Qik works.. I have qik working on mine right now.. used it to chat between my cell and my tablet.
So does Yahoo Messenger w/ Video. I have it running on the TnT Lite 3.0.0 build right now.

Have you tried Tango?
Tango won't install for me on TnT Lite 3.0 or the previous version.
Yahoo Messenger w/ video chat works on mine running Vegan beta 3, but the webcam is sideways.
Ditto, and bump.
Running Vegan Beta 4. I can get Yahoo to work, but my video is sideways. Anyone know of a fix?
AFAIK, there is no fix for the sideways video. Qik and Yahoo runs on my tablet, but the video does not consistently run and connect. I need something that works like skype does on a laptop. Good audio, high quality video and works everytime. I travel for work weekly and spend nights out of the house. When we had the laptop we would use skype every night. Now with the tablets, there is no solution. Kinda sucks to keep a laptop around just for skype use. Oh well... bleeding edge.
Anyone tried Yahoo messenger, android-to-android? Does that have the sideways problem?
Jim
P.S. Installed on stock 3053.
Yes, Yahoo Messenger from G-Tab to G-Tab has the sideways video issue... when it works.
oovoo video chat software
I was able to get this program on vegan 7. Currently doing IMs and VOIP.the video chat is blocked out on the program and in the programs settings. I think with the growing number of gtab users we can figure this out. I am using this right now talking to wife on her PC.I will continue on solution but I'm just a rookie compared to some
Have you tried my ReelPortal software? It's proven to work on the G Tablet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908613
It works with Android/PC/Linux/Mac, etc. The interface is a bit clunky. So I'm working on changing that at the moment.

[Q] ooVoo, Tango, Skype

I've been using Tango but noticed that skype and ooVoo are available in the market now (for our phone). Has anyone tried skype or ooVoo with this phone?
I tired skype if you installed it from market video won't work.
What you have do is using root explore replace a Optmus 3d build prop and restart the phone and then install the skype apk from market then it will work. Next you can replace your original thrill build prop back again.
Could we possibly get someone with an O3D to Upload the Working Skype for us considering we should be able to just DL the one yall have and install it on the phone.
