Is the wifi Tab just not a popular enough tablet to garner interest in developing ROMS or OC kernels? See a little stuff for the 3G Tabs and not much at all for the wifi Tab.
The wifi tab is still fairly new. I hope that at least one developer will take up the custom rom development.
i would think that the wifi version and the 3g version are pretty much the same the only thing that would change would be one would have 3g and the other would not. but the roms that are designed for 3g should work for the wifi i dont see why not.
Wifi version use different (or of lower spec.) cpu, graphic chip, and Bluetooth chip; so it needs quite a different rom from the 3g version.

I really hope so too. The more I browse this section and just see almost nothing for my Tab makes me kinda wish I had gotten something else. I see so many guys with their 3G tabs clocked to 1.4ghz. Jealous!!

the wifi only version is inferior in hardware compared to the GT p1000 that's why my tablet sucks..

Couldn't find anyplace that was talking about ROM's for the new WIFI only version of the 7" Galaxy Tab. Let's starting cookin' !
Couldn't a GSM or CDMA ROM be modded fairly easy to work on the WIFI? Hope so..

anyone out there? hello?
Sometimes it gets kinda quite round here. There are no wifi only roms I know of atm. Dont think it would take to much for the devs to adapt thier roms though. But they are few and far between imho. Only got 1 or 2 working on cdma. Good news is the tab is pretty sweet factory.

I'm thinking of getting one of these on ebay in the hope of being able to flash custom ROMs on it but spending an hour reading up on it on this board has got me a bit worried. Can anyone answer a few questions for me?
1. Which GPU does the Sprint tablet have (hoping to hear "the same as the P1000")
2. Which custom ROMs work with the Sprint? Are there any custom kernels?
3. What are the main disadvantages of having a Sprint tablet compared to a P1010 (wifi only)?
Thanks!

1. the CPU is a 1ghz hummingbird (arm a8), and the GPU is a PowerVR SGX 540. both are the same as their GSM counterparts. i believe its only the wifi only that has the 530.
2. Spacemoose's Honeycomb alpha2 will "work" but things like cameras bluetooth and sound arent functional yet. Khasmek's kernel works pretty well. Download SGS kernel flasher for verizon tabs from the market you can backup and flash it pretty easily, be sure n backup if you want to revert for any reason.
3. 3g and a marginally better graphics core. if you bought during the woot deal you saved 100 over the Wifi only tab while getting 3g
Thanks for the info. Do you know if there is a stable 2.3 ROM available?
i personally havent flashed a new rom on mine (only kernel). I think theres an official gingerbread headed to our tab this summer... seems like samsung's done their part, and we're waiting on the carrier specific "optimizations"
Would it be accurate to say that there are far fewer custom ROMs available for the Sprint tablet?

Yes that is accurate. GSM Tabs have way more you can do. CDMA Tabs are a minority when it comes to ROM'S.
Good to know.how do I get recovery for the sprint tab. Can I use the Verizon's version.I am rooted and all just can't get recovery.

I'm currently running CM9 on my HP Touchpad. I was wondering what the difference is between CM9 and Buttery ICS. Are they the same build but different features? Are there things that one has and the other doesn't?
cm9 is based on cyanogen source, buttah is based on evervolve (spelling?).
Go to classicnerd.net, it has the info you're looking for.
buttah is better.....and i am totally biased.... anyways not many devs/members appreciate rom comparison threads...try both yourself and u will find the difference..

OK I know your biased but could you provide any reasons at all?
This early in the ICS development game it is less about A vs B and more about who has what working. These are Alpha builds at different stages of development with different focus on moving forward.
I am personally biased toward Classicnerd myself, but that should not impact your decision. Try them both yourself and you can then make an informed decision on the ROM that works good for you.
i went with butter cause... i like butter!
With this recent news about HP releasing files or whatever, does that mean all the teams will get that stuff or only CM?

the HP files will be outsourced so everyone can see/use them....even u can get those files..also Classicnerd has their work on github as well...so they all are trying to work in a way that it will help whole touchpad dev

I will say that I have had both installed and both look great. Unfortunately no one has made any headway on the wifi issues...
I will say that the nerds have really done a nice job with the graphics. It's just really nice to look at. So if you're going for the "cool" effect. That might be a good choice.

What graphics? As far as I am concerned wifi is iffy and HD video don't work on either so they're both essentialtially equal. But they're very very advanced for an alpha and can't wait for the next release.

I was talking specifically about the "eye candy". The wifi has been a train wreck for me thus far. I'm not sure how there are so many that aren't having issues.
The only way I can get the thing to stay connected for any length of time is to run a wide open AP or public wifi spots. WEP, WPA2 and WPA2 Enterprise are worthless.
But I do agree, for an alpha, it is very nice to run. I just wish I could USE the things that I need to make it actually useful for me...
No offense to anyone here. But I have CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 0.6 installed on my TouchPad and I have not had ANY problems with my WiFi staying connected. I used to have CyanogenMod 7 Alpha 3.5 and I had issues with my WiFi then but I have not had one issue with my WiFi staying connected to my internet at all. Every morning and every time I "wake up" my TouchPad my Wifi is on and ready to use. I LOVE CyanogenMod 9 Alpha 0.6 as does my Mom who also has it on her TouchPad!
P.S. Make sure in your WiFi settings you go to the Advanced feature and that you select that your WiFi is set to NEVER sleep.
I may be wrong but I think that the wifi is a hardware issue. I have used both Roms and have never had an issue with wifi. It could be the routers used since there are so many different ones being used or the wifi chip inside the TP. These are the only things that are not constant for everyone.
Just my opinion.

I can't agree. The wifi works great in WebOS. Nothing but issues in cm9 and 7 and through the variety of kangs and the varying suggestions on how to try to fix it.
What settings are you using on your WAP?
hi guys, can't find answer
1. Saw the officials update there's different basebamd for 3g and 4g, can I flash 4g basebamd onto 3g devices?
2. If it is possible, will I am capable of 4g when travel to America? They also are implementing 4g network in Australia. Read that the basebamd chip integrated 3g and 4g
3. Ram is 512 mb? Only getting 256 in settings
I wrote short cause I know you don't like read long
Thanks
apparently too many people here asking many similar of what so called "noob" questions so that the experienced users don't bother to look at this sub section and let alone answer it.
i am an experienced users myself, and making a rom isn't a problem for me, just tweaking around with stuff and make a backup with CWM, then i can stand up and say "i'm a dev" like ppl on these forums. I mean do you really think you are a dev by just making a few tweaks copied from other sources and post it on the internet claiming it is your own rom? Android is such a popular and open platform that it hardly has an unified development process like such from proprietary software like M$ and Apple.
figure out the answer after a long search and reading on the internet, apparently those things are not addressed anywhere else thats why i have to post the questions in the first place.
1. flashing 4g or 3g does not ruin your baseband, you just cant downgrade it once you flash a newer baseband (same like Apple devices). 4g baseband give you 1 more frequency to use (only available in US)
2. still, it is not possible to use flash 4g baseband and have 4g if you have 3g modem.
only the Tmos DS7 have 4g modem (4g use a lot more power and your devices just cant ultilised all that speed anyway).
3. ram is 512mb but only 256mb available to system, (don't know why?)
one more issues for you to vote:
do you feel very drowsy, dizzy or tired after like 10 or 15 minutes of using the device on 3g mode? i feel really bad and like vomitting, fkuced up bad -_-".
i want to return the thing but given it is such a value for money device (only 200 AUD), i think maybe better to find the cause and fix it. I suspect either:
the screen is too dark and low resolution is the cause
the 3g modem signal too strong and causing headache (had this thing before when using iphone and turn on wifi tether using pdanet)
maybe something wrong with the software, it seems to feel better when i use the US fw versions, and really bad on EU fw -_-".
does any of you have this same problem? lets vote ^^
RAM is 512mb but some of it is reserved for GPU usage.
ppreVic1893
I don't understand why it set aside so many MB of ram for GPU, even though I'm not running any games and just using the launcher to look at the memory available?
Because it internally saves that amount.

Hello.. I am about to upgrade my phone to a Galaxy S3 LTE titanium edition which is released by EE in UK.
But before I pull the trigger I have a few questions...
Will I be be able to use the same Rom made for the 3g version on my LTE GS3 Or will there be a specific section on xda for LTE version?
According to some websites there are a few hardware differences like 2gig of ram in LTE compared to 1gig n 3g.. Does anybody know any other hardware differences?
Thanks

So would you suggest that I go for that options or the normal 3g.. Cause am not sure if 4G version will be supported by Modding community as much as 3g version..
Thanks

Nah it's not supported as much yet... I own an Australian i9305. The first stable AOSP roms are starting to emerge though!
I'm really hoping for a Slimbean rom though.

Hm.. actually, the stock rom is very smooth and fast with that 2G ram in I9305, I don't think there is a need to use custom rom. The 1G ram really make the difference between i9300 and i9305.

Yea. That's why the rom development is not active in i9305 forum. I think there is no big room for improvement to the stock rom.
I think the only option that i missed from stock rom is the "auto switch to 2G network when the screen is off" function. Because the 2G network is really saving a lot of battery.
Currently I think only cm rom support the auto toggle of 2G and 3G networks.
However, nevermind now, my portable charger arrive now, I dont' need to save battery anymore.
Really satisfied with this phone ( I came from xperia X10).
