Is the wifi Tab just not a popular enough tablet to garner interest in developing ROMS or OC kernels? See a little stuff for the 3G Tabs and not much at all for the wifi Tab.
The wifi tab is still fairly new. I hope that at least one developer will take up the custom rom development.
i would think that the wifi version and the 3g version are pretty much the same the only thing that would change would be one would have 3g and the other would not. but the roms that are designed for 3g should work for the wifi i dont see why not.
Wifi version use different (or of lower spec.) cpu, graphic chip, and Bluetooth chip; so it needs quite a different rom from the 3g version.

I really hope so too. The more I browse this section and just see almost nothing for my Tab makes me kinda wish I had gotten something else. I see so many guys with their 3G tabs clocked to 1.4ghz. Jealous!!

the wifi only version is inferior in hardware compared to the GT p1000 that's why my tablet sucks..
hi guys, can't find answer
1. Saw the officials update there's different basebamd for 3g and 4g, can I flash 4g basebamd onto 3g devices?
2. If it is possible, will I am capable of 4g when travel to America? They also are implementing 4g network in Australia. Read that the basebamd chip integrated 3g and 4g
3. Ram is 512 mb? Only getting 256 in settings
I wrote short cause I know you don't like read long
Thanks
apparently too many people here asking many similar of what so called "noob" questions so that the experienced users don't bother to look at this sub section and let alone answer it.
i am an experienced users myself, and making a rom isn't a problem for me, just tweaking around with stuff and make a backup with CWM, then i can stand up and say "i'm a dev" like ppl on these forums. I mean do you really think you are a dev by just making a few tweaks copied from other sources and post it on the internet claiming it is your own rom? Android is such a popular and open platform that it hardly has an unified development process like such from proprietary software like M$ and Apple.
figure out the answer after a long search and reading on the internet, apparently those things are not addressed anywhere else thats why i have to post the questions in the first place.
1. flashing 4g or 3g does not ruin your baseband, you just cant downgrade it once you flash a newer baseband (same like Apple devices). 4g baseband give you 1 more frequency to use (only available in US)
2. still, it is not possible to use flash 4g baseband and have 4g if you have 3g modem.
only the Tmos DS7 have 4g modem (4g use a lot more power and your devices just cant ultilised all that speed anyway).
3. ram is 512mb but only 256mb available to system, (don't know why?)
one more issues for you to vote:
do you feel very drowsy, dizzy or tired after like 10 or 15 minutes of using the device on 3g mode? i feel really bad and like vomitting, fkuced up bad -_-".
i want to return the thing but given it is such a value for money device (only 200 AUD), i think maybe better to find the cause and fix it. I suspect either:
the screen is too dark and low resolution is the cause
the 3g modem signal too strong and causing headache (had this thing before when using iphone and turn on wifi tether using pdanet)
maybe something wrong with the software, it seems to feel better when i use the US fw versions, and really bad on EU fw -_-".
does any of you have this same problem? lets vote ^^
RAM is 512mb but some of it is reserved for GPU usage.
ppreVic1893
I don't understand why it set aside so many MB of ram for GPU, even though I'm not running any games and just using the launcher to look at the memory available?
Because it internally saves that amount.

Hello guys i want to ask you if the 1GB extra ram that the i9305 has makes the phone faster or the speed remain the same. Also is it better on the overall performance than the i9300? Thank you..

You see the ram is not mainly for speed but for multitasking so say i9300 can run 20 apps at a time then i9305 can run 40, this is highly inaccurate but shows what i mean. when apps are left open then they will be killed by a memory optimizer, which allows a certain amount of ram to be free. also i have heard that more ram is for the 4g aspect of the phone as it is said that 4g eats ram. power comes from cpu and gpu. so therefore speed will be the same except when to many apps are open when 2gb will be faster.

What you heard is wrong the ram has nothing to do with LTE and LTE does NOT use any extra ram then when i have it on 3G I cannot tell any difference what so ever.. And when i have had them compared side by side after 7 applications i have opened with the I9300 and the I9305.. well the I9300 started killing the 1st application out of the 7 that were open so when i click back into the application it has to reload all over again, where as the I9305 is instant, Also If you compare whats held in Cache memory Setting/Applications manager/ running> then click on show cached processes well even tho the i9305 has double the ram, the I9305 has almost 3x the apps stored in the Cache memory then the i9300..
Hi
Although it wont be technically faster the device becomes alot more usable and alot more responsive I believe. My i9300 regularly was closing apps as it was generally hovering around 70-80MB free mark, the i9305 has around 500-600MB free at the moment, so its using more than 1GB RAM. I personally like the i9305 as it has more potential in the future.
Thanks

I actually today got it as an upgrade but i am already having i9300. And i am thinking which one to sell the i9300 (which has a lot of development, roms themes etc.) or the i9305 (less development) which basically the difference is the LTE.

True i9300 has alot of dev support but what about in a years time? It is a tough decision but I think the i9305 is more future proof.

I replied to the themes in your other thread but as for mods n stuff Ive tried the Camera mods, such as note2 and also the gallery, Popup browser, smart rotation all the 4.2 apps, acid sound mod, call recording mod, extended power menu, Crt off And more so alot are easily ported to the I9305 by only changing the partition location in the updater script if you goto the I9305 dev forum and check out the roms and there mods and tweaks. well most of them all came from the i9300 and were ported over.

You know I thought the same but I have not got that many apps installed, maybe around 25-30, maybe its the free games. I use Nova launcher with 4 home pages a clock widget some shortcuts, twitter widget, fav contacts widget, calender widget (google and exchange). Not sure why it uses so much RAM? Any pointers?
Thanks

I've been waiting for the 32Gb version of the i9305 (I already have the i9300 32Gb, but my wife would like to get one as well, so if I get the i9305, she gets mine).
I'm starting to hesitate because of the lack of activity in the i9305 subforums though..
The 16Gb version has been out for a few weeks already, and it's still very very quiet in those subforums.. will it really take off, or maybe too many people had already bought the i9300 and prefer waiting for a bigger upgrade to change phones (like S4)..
Yeh I was waiting for the 32GB but then I thought Stuff it may never come out as this was a later release and I think I may be right as it should be out by now its been over a month since release now. honestly I have a 64GB SD card which is a total of 80GB in my phone, Plus when 128GB MicroSD comes out I will have 140GB which is just crazy for a phone The only reason why it says the S3 only holds 64gb SD is because thats the largest available at the moment. And the Dev support is quite good for there not being much Devs that bought the device as they have bought the I9300 and do not want to spend more money on another phone. Well who cares because all the themes are transferable, most of the tweaks are aswell, even all the mods. Just go through the Roms in the I9305 dev forum and check out the mods and tweaks they have embedded and the only thing that you cannot interchange is rom and Kernel these have to be ported by someone who knows what they are doing. But most of the 4.1.1 mods are interchangable, So far we still dont have any AOSP/MIUI and CM10 Roms.. But back to your decision If you have to think about forking the money out for it then dont do it, it should be the kind of decision where you dont have to ask anyone for their opinion and just go out and buy it.
I made the mistake of getting the i9300 2 weeks ago, I had no idea there was a 2gb version and my mobile provider didn't have it in stock nor did any other store.
2 weeks later it starts to get available in most stores around here
Had I known about the i9305, I would have waited. Too late for me now.
There's probably newer gonna be as much developer support for the i9305, and keep in mind it's probably less than half a year before the new galaxy is out, so most people will be waiting for that (including me). I even read that Samsung will show the next Galaxy even eralier on the MWC in February.
1gb ram really sucks and I definitely feel the lack so I would take the 2gb any day.
I would say you don't need CM10 and all the custom ROMS because with quadcore and 2gb RAM, the phone runs beautifully.
Only reason I have a custom rom is because with the stock rom, I cannot open more than 3 apps without them being closed after a few minutes of inactivity because the ram is always full. AOSP roms are better because they use less ram but when you have 2gb at your disposal, it really doesn't matter.
Get the the i9305. Or just wait for the s4.
Guys don't fool yourself and keep your money in your pocket instead of hurrying to sell your i9300 to get a i9305. The Galaxy S4 is already in the making so no way the i9305 is more future proof than the i9300. Most people here just want the latest and the greatest and won't be holding on to the i9305 when the S4 gets released. So just save yourself some money and stick with the i9300 for now.
Yeah but the s4 is still around 6 months away, I would not wait as when that time approaches there will probably be somehting else out there that is even better. It is just a vicious circle, if you go down that route you will be waiting forwever.
If you are on a contract and have an upgrade available then go for the 9305, if you can sell your 9300 for a good price and then add a little to get the 9305 then it is probably worth doing as the 9300 is only going to drop in price, OK the 9305 will also but as it has LTE it will hold its value a little more as people will be prepared to pay that little bit extra to get LTE and 2gb of Ram. The market wil be flooded with 9300's next year as there are so many of them about but not so many LTE 9305's!
Just my view and I have both and am not selling either!
I would be surprised if the S4 gets released in 6 months... LOL all these people waiting then in 6 months time they hear the word saying its another 6 months away so then they say to themselves AGAIN might aswell wait for it now its only 6 months away lool.
I wouldnt believe any of the sources you here.
Anyways good luck

I understand that it is common knowledge that the i9300's roms will not work with the i9305 without some modification but I just can't understand why. The only differences between the two is the amount of ram available and the LTE property of the i9305. Both of which shouldn't greatly effect the installation of a rom. I'd actually imagine that it'd make the rom run easier as there is more ram available.
Why isn't this the case?

I guess it hasn't reached the US. Once it does, I suppose it will become widely supported. I have spoken to some of the cyanogenmod devs and they say theyre not supporting the device anytime soon.

My point was I don't understand why a i9300 rom wouldn't work on the i9305 as the only difference between the two is the extra ram and ability to use the 4g network. Both things which should only improve usability..

I've rooted and modded every phone I've ever had including my last phone, an S3. Now I'm looking and kind of confused at my next steps here.
I'd like to have a slimmed down phone, definitely don't need AT&T bloatware now. I'd love to have tmobile's wifi calling back, but I can deal if I can't have that. Wouldn't mind having an updated version but again, I really just want a slimmed down system... Battery life over bells and whistles for me.
What should I do next with this phone. What would you do if it was your phone?
Oh, I read about a procedure for accessing some bands for t-mobile's lte but mine is showing LTE right now.
Thanks,

Really the only thing you can do is root your phone, and uninstall the bloat you don't want. You have a phone with a locked bootloader so you can't flash custom ROMs with custom kernels. Install SafeStrap and xposed, and that's about the best you can hope for.
Yes, I've read about this much... Wasn't sure if things might have changed.
So safestrap will be as close as I can get. What would be the best option for a ROM for what I'm looking to achieve? Is there a way (safe) to get to 4.3 or 4.4?
What is the best/safest way to "uninstall" the bloat one I've got whatever ROM I'm gonna run installed?
Thanks again!
Gilligan

That is not possible. The only way to get WiFi calling is with a T-mobile stock ROM, and obviously there will never be one for the S4 Active.

Well ok, that makes sense... thought maybe someone may have had ported one over or something.
What ROM would be recommended for lightweight stripped down ROM?
