Starting a website. - Off-topic

I'm starting a website called "Tech-Hop" which basically keeps everyone updated with the latest technology, true hip-hop and some alternative/indie/heavy rock, and fashion(rare sneakers and hats). It's like engadget mixed a music forum. I just wanted to see what would be everyones opinions on that type of site. I made a facebook group just to start out so feel free to join.

Wow great website. I like how you don't need a link to get to it.

It's just in theory right now but I made the facebook group as a start. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_206005472766222

Advice: don't say anything about it until it is up, otherwise you will create false expectations and it will fail (something like what is happening with Diaspora)

Looking for Editors.. Paid Job

Hi,
I am Wen. Alot of you know me for either working on XDA's front page or WMPoweruser.
Well I am looking for someone that would be willing to work for one of my sites.
The site is new, and I just made it last night after being bored.
The site is a general phone site, so can talk about any phone news, which means your job is really easy.
All you do is:
Find 10 interesting news anywhere in the web about phones( I like smartphones more than dumb phones, but either works)
Write about it.. with good English and grammar.
Post it or schedule it to post the next day 1 hour apart.
This job isn't hard, and you will get paid for it. And if your good enough, you will either get a raise or I will find a bigger higher paying site for you, but only if you work hard.
What are the benefits of being an editor. Well you get to review phones(right now, I have the Palm Pre, Pixi, Motorola Droid, Devour and more. all to review). you get free things(right now I have the Jabra Stone, and Jabra Halo).
You can have all that if you work hard enough, and this job doesnt require much.
My pay can be discussed if you PM me.
BTW you might want to know that site you will write for:
MobileBlab
Its only 24 Hours old
A couple qualifying questions...is this US-based equipment? How do you anticipate to have the editor experience the technology first hand so they can write about it. I'm sure that you don't want someone to write about things second-hand. I mention this because you cannot steal photos and stories from others without subscribing to their site or network.
you read sites and write news... i dont need a reviewer just yet. and yes usa
Which is the same thing, you should not be stealing stories from other sites or write about news second hand. You've got to be able to put up stories that don't exist elsewhere, especially in the digital world today. What you need is underground sources that can feed information to your "editors" to put out stories. The only way to take second-hand information, from stories that already exist on the web, and use them to your advantage is to aim your site at a specific section of the market. Even then, you need permission to run the story and pictures.
A perfect example is Tmonews.com. They take stories and just publish the ones that are relevant to T-Mobile users. A generic phone site won't catch on.
I DO, however, have an idea that will catch on because I'm not seeing it elsewhere right now and it would be the perfect time to market the site. PM me if what I say makes sense and you're interested.
I am not quite sure what your saying because all the sites do that.. its not called stealing unless you dont link back to them.... Engadget is the biggest example alot of their news are from other sites.. so they just link to them and use the news.
So... ya.
But I will PM you to see what you have to say

I'm not a news follower but rather a tweaker/tester kind of guy. I share my discoveries with the rest of the world with nice tutorials.
If you need someone to write easy-to-follow guides or to review phones (I tried every platform but WebOS and Nokia's), then I'm your man. You can see samples of what I write on my blog (blog.nicolasbouliane.com).
UPDATE: By the way, you won't get many visitors with copypasta since most people refer to a single site for these news (generally Gizmodo) and won't like reading the same stuff a day later on another blog. A simple description with a referal (à-la Lifehacker) will do the job for anything that's not original content. You should instead try getting visits from Googlers looking for a specific topic.
I would be very interested in this type of position. Where would I need to submit a sample of my work? FYI, hiring a woman with tech knowledge is very chic these days
So you girls really do exist!
Really, a female.. great ill PM you... now I need One more.. and If I get more than 1, I have more than 1 sites... I have http://theandroidfeed.com and http://mobileosnews.com
count me in I'm pretty there when it comes to phone news
what do I have to do generally
I still think you should be more specific in your market.
Answer this question: Why should I go to mobileblab over engadget, mobilecrunch, techcrunch, cnet, wmexperts, or coolsmartphone?

well engadget, cnet, == iphone bias and I know when I read a phone review site I get tired of those biases personally
taking a look at mobileblab I think it has potential but that's just my opinion of course...gotta start somewhere

Very true, but that was the same question that was answered when Engadget and Mobilecrunch linked stories to my other site....
Engadget doesnt post as much news as my other site does.. and ya, thats why I have a regular reader base, because the readers know this.

Cnet, just watch their comperison videos.. Iphone never losses.. but not much Engadget.. but Gizmodo does.

question to all... please read

Hay guys, I am wondering... I would like to start a new blog, but I do not know what about. I don't want another phone site, I was thinking a car blog or an online deals blog... I am not sure. Any ideas guys?

Ill get people that are interested in the subject to be the editors and like work on the site... so my interest doesn't matter
A car blog would be cool. A deals blog may be a bit too involved .. unless your just posting deals and not necessarily selling or buy things on your blog site. Are you looking to have other people post on it or just strictly byou blogging?
I have 2 blogs myself.
Strangethingsinajax.blogspot.com (basically just wierd or interesting news from around the city i live in but not limited too)
TheSourceSports.blogspot.com (sports rumours and news with a twist)
Both are kinda new but its a cool way to write about stuff.. just goes to show you can write about anything that interests you... u just need an idea. I just recently started writing about the whole rogers mandatory fiasco.. I even created a facebook group for it!
A blog with random secrets and tips. Most people don't know that clicking with the middle button in Firefox opens a new tab or that the F2 key renames files in Windows Explorer or that holding the power button then the middle button on the iPhone can reset the device or force close an application.
Cars, for sure.

I PMed you... and it seems the Car blog is becoming the winner here... and I dont sell anything, so no, just like deals from everywhere on the web, because there is no site that does that.. like a central blog that tells you all the deals and stuff.

I voted for fashion, but, then your reader base would be limited. So....CARS!
Cars is good (though it depends on what kind of cars of course). Maybe racing orientated (and by that I don't mean F1, but the "proper" stuff like LMS, ALMS or V8 Supercars )
I'd rather read a blog about sex secrets and dirty tales
Many men would want that
check out the new car site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5811749#post5811749 I did it all tonight, so if you guys wanna write for the site... please PM me, because I do not own a working car anymore and I cannot write about something I do not know about.
Thanks Wen

Beta software is software with a few bugs, you are thinking of alpha. This section is for development, not a place to hold the hands of wannabe devs and WinZippers.
How do I join?

while i think the irc way is a little out of my way... whatever... its his way.. his rom... if you dont like it... dont be a part of it... why call names and such...

Wow, your stupidity truly boggles the mind! Oh dear, where to begin...
Let us start with your grammar and capitalization. Now, no one here expects anyone else to adhere to the exact guidelines of the English language but for God's sake man, at least capitalize the first letter of the topic. If you don't, people will assume (quite truly) that you are about 13 years old and are attempting to get your 5 minutes of fame.
Next, making a topic in development trying to force people into your IRC channel is ridiculous. You provide NO details whatsoever. No developer in their right minds would consider making a thread about an upcoming project with absolutely no information.
So I decided to look at a thread you made over in the Fascinate forums, here is something you said in it: "Once our great Devs figure out how to..." I stopped reading right there. If you are going to create ROMs, know how to fix ****.
And finally, to your "2000+ line ROM Manager manifest" I could honestly have no less of an idea what you are babbling about.
Also, anyone who recommends ChatZilla should go die for you are the scum of technology lovers everywhere.

Now, now. I am not an unreasonable or jealous person, and I believe you have a legitimate reason for calling me out like this. Let me explain, there are 2 kinds of "developers" that populate the XDA forums; developers (Cyan, Eugene, #TeamWhiskey) and WinZippers (everyone over in the themes section, the OP). The former category deserve much applause for their hardwork, and so do the themers in the latter category. The problem is when people from the second group believe they know anything about Android and decide to run off and "create" a ROM. This results in a legion of clone ROMs created with the Android Kitchen that have a different name and MAYBE a different color notification bar. It is sad and pathetic, and it has claimed the livelihood of the G1 developer forum.

A. Contribute something development-wise to this forum
B. Create your own forum
C. Stop *****ing at people for trying to contribute what they can.

Do you like writing?

Hey all,
I'm an avid web developer and major time Android fan, I'm looking for a few people that also share my passion for Android - people that have well profound English skills.
I am in the process of developing an Android blog, whilst this may seem unneeded and a tad bit of extra competition to the many other well established blogs, I am sure that my upcoming blog will surpass all other blogs due to the content, context and a secret few features which I disclose at this current time.
All writers, will receive many benefits such as free products, applications as well as money (which is produced based on the amount of interaction with the community and views of your articles).
Sadly, I cannot enclose all the required documents, benefits or features of the upcoming blog but all will be clear once you're part of the team.
PS. I hope this is not against the rules of this forum as I post this in all respect.
Thank you.
UPDATE: Please visit http://www.droid-insider.com/2011/04/13/welcome-home/ for more information.
I must say SMCentral, I am VERY interested. I am a long time fan of Android and just fan technology period (especially in the mobile space). I believe I can provide some great insight into what you are trying to accomplish in your blog, if your willing to give me the opportunity of course.
I like writing poetry. it comes naturally. I've been told I was born before my time. Did and IQ test and apparently I am a Word Smith. I guess that helps.
I've contacted everything whom sent me PMs and posted in this topic.
If you are still interested, please do not hesitate to reply to this topic or send me a PM.
Thank you.

yes they are gone. i talked to jeff. it has to do with the moderators taking back the portal and youtube channel and undoing all the changes they made. sam, bob, and jeff are gone i believe. they are now doing super user tv for rootzwiki
Seems very stupid by the MODS...Why would you remove your most popular assets....? I need an explanation
sassi has some random new vid about a vid she's going to do (VEDA?), looks like she just didn't want to sleep lol.

Exactly. We are looking for Hosts to create fun and exciting videos for the members of XDA and the world at large. There is a lot of exciting things in to works and if anyone has any ideas and/or wants to talk about becoming a host, feel free to hit me up, with a private message.
I hope everyone is enjoying the Videos from AdamOutler and Shen.
It's very sad message. I m very unhappy to hear this.
Az is my favorite host Sam too.

seriously? the biggest mistake of XDA TV. XDA TV do something. bring them back!
to be fair some of the things I've been reading and also seeing how some members treat others It wont be long until lots more are driven away to elsewhere too which is a shame b/c this is a great place and XDA TV is a great asset.
Some members think just b/c they are popular or have a popular Rom out or something that they can speak to less knowledgeable members like crap which as lead to their followers in them threads thinking its ok to do the same
More power to em. The way xda has been treating is readers/users lately has been very unprofessional. See yall over at rootz
