2) use synaptic to download (I personally used xfce4 desktop "xfdesktop" and the panel "xfce4-panel")
3) go to /osh/usr/local/bin/ in terminal "cd /osh/usr/local/bin/"
4) sudo gedit
5) in gedit, open start-oshwt-2.sh

sfalv -i "awm-autostart"
sfalv -i "webtop-wallpaper"
7) add sfalv -i "<Program you want to fun>"
<program you want to run> would be fbpanel, xfdesktop, xfce4-panel, gnome-panel, etc.

Hm yeah, I couldn't get that to run. I'll have to check it out. My way has a super tiny footprint but all in one package is MUCH nicer.
My screenshots, xfce4 with fbpanel (since native xcfe4 taskbar (xfce4-session) causes 5 windows with phone inside.)

Yup, I ran out of room on webtop is why it wouldn't install. But fbpanel is the taskbar guys. And ask questions in the thread not in PMs.
I'm wondering how I can get the taskbar and desktop interface alone vs. with the webtop dock included.
"I will write the guide in a day or two."
Great!!
I´m waiting!!
Thanx man!

Issue is that AWN (The Dock) covers up the taskbar's. We would have to find a new Dock, or somehow set AWN to not cover it. AWN also uses up precious system resources.
I didn't forget about the guide, just some personal matters came up I'll write it I promise
so, do we get the how-to? some of us are waiting with bated breath. Linux n00b here.
I really want this!
Yeah sorry its taking so long, my mother went in for brain surgery so i've been hanging out in the hospital a bit. But all went well and shes up walking around now
So maybe tomorrow, i'll get on that guide.
Whoa Man! I say take care of your Mom. Thanks for the advanced look at this. Might just convince me to keep the silly LapDock for a while longer to check it out. I wish your Mom the best.
I'll do a quick and dirty toutorial to get people going and you can take your time helping your mom.

Hello xda community !
I would like to share with you a new open-source project i just started. It's goal is to provide the ability to control your android device witch is connected through USB using mouse and keyboard in the same way it can be done on an emulator.
It's quite usable already but quite slow...
To try it, just go there and launch the JNLP file
Requirement :
Java Runtime >= 5
android sdk installed
your device is connected, in debug mode and detected by adb (type "adb devices" to check)
New in 0.4
Fix spacebar problem
Possible fix for droid display problem (keyboard still not working)
More keycodes mapped and shift key fixed
New In 0.3
Improved explorer
Launch URL from your computer
Key events fix
Hardware keys as buttons
New In 0.2
Basic file explorer (double clic on a file)
Video capture
First attempt to fix permission denied (non root device)
Device selection
Feel free to report issues using the issue tracker @googlecode :
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
is this via only pc / linux?
i have a mac lol
but looks goood
it does work on mac/pc/linux great job!
screenshot.

its a very great start! thanks again for this and yeah i do love my desktop =P
bumpp!!! this is dopeeee
This sounds like a must have application
Can't get it to work on my mac. Just get "Unable to launch application." Any
trick to this?
Works pretty well. Typing is in all caps.
My goodness!
It is choppy, but its such an elegant execution of the idea, love it.
Do you think there's much that can be done in future releases for the choppiness?
Well done!
Edit for MattStang: For the 'Unable to Launch application message', try running something like 'adb shell' first to make sure that the adb service on your computer is running
matt_stang : which Java version is installed on your computer ? Maybe you need to update to Java 6.
I'll look at the chopiness issue but this may be quite difficult.
It's not working on 10.5.6 for me. I would go to system update to see if there's an update for Java, but I'm on a hackintosh

You obviously don't have java 6 installed.I've lowered the requirement from java 6 to java 5 since 6 is not really needed, can you try again using this link ?
How do you connect your device via adb?
I am guessing that not connecting it myself is causing my error, however, If I use "DroidExplorer" (another app I am checking out), I guess it does it for me?
If I just launch screencast:
-getting device list
-unable to launch
If I launch DroidExplorer then screencast I get:
-starting input injector
-unable to launch'
If I launch DroidExplorer, connect with it, then screencast I get:
My G1!!
-Thought I would share in case you want to peek at DroidExplorer and see how it auto connects.
OK, this is seriously cool! I normally hook my G1 up to its USB cable and stick it under my keyboard drawer at work, pulling it out when I ... ahem ... "need" it. Now it can stay under there and I can run it from my desktop. Speed is a bit of an issue but I'm sure that'll get worked out. And, sure, there are bugs but those'll get worked out, too. Heck, I'm donating right now just because of how far you've gotten!
what happened to megan fox johnny? haha
This is a huge development ... Well done Can't wait for the keymap to be finished. The choppiness isn't an issue for me, it still feels more responsive than MyMobiler does on WiMo, and for sms it's extremely useful... Well done Keep it coming
Works Great with my HTC Hero! Its a little slow but a great start! Keep it up...
Hi clever people!
Ok so it's taken me a few days to really figure this thing out and decide to root my T-Mobile UK G2 Touch (Hero or whatever) and after doing it, I installed villain4beta2 which at first I liked. however I've had it a day now at work (it get used alot at work) and its just not right.... things seem nicer and perhaps a touch faster but with silly errors. for example even when I'd disabled open home and put sense back on it kept coming up with force kill open home *sigh*
anyways i think I'm going back to a rooted stock rom because i dnt really want much from my phone i only rooted it to create "full" themes for it, apart from maybe apps2sd perhaps. This brings me on to the point...
So, I want to theme it, I know this can be done via open home ahome and other desktop replacement apps but they all seem to slow my phone done compared to sense - plus i like sense, and even when i use them I cannot a)edit the notification bar
b)change the bootscreen
so I want to know if the following few things are possible and point me in the right direction...
-create MY OWN bootscreen (not one off another phone)
-change location/fonts/colours on notification bar
-change the colours/font of the sense buttons (phone add apps)
this lot is probably way more complicated than i imagine, however I have made F0 (firmware - flashed) themes for the PSP, so i think i can handle this, its just i know very little about android atm. So please take pitty on me and point me in the correct direct of what ever is possible...
mattyyey
c'mon guys! can you at least tell me how to make a bootscreen - what files are involved etc?
(FYI i have a rooted stock ROM now - 2.73.110.26)
have a look at /system/media, in 1.5 roms you will find a folder called "bootscreen", in 2.1 roms there is either a folder or a zipfile. have a look at these, then ask your specific questions here after you did a search.
I would also like to know how to make/create/customize themes.
bootscreens are easy enough, what tools and files are involved in the theme and where can we locate them?
Do we need to get the sign tools etc from the dev of the ROM were creating it for?
Thanks in advance
edit the pngs inside the apks. do not unpack them, just update the files inside them. do not resign them with anything. and there is no rom developer key, there are the testkeys from htc.
Cheers kendong, your a gent.
I thought there would of been more to it than that, best fire up photoshop and alike

Wow I so forgot about this thread! Thanks kendong2 I have a lot of it figured out now editing apks and making bootscreens... and getting the final customization via sweeter home. LCARSoid is basically finished apart from a few widgets.
I have yet to figure out how rearranging the notifications bar is done or fonts. I know fonts can be done tho.
Anyways thanks, I managed to piece it together in the end. :-D

Sorry, I know that there are explanations on other device forums, but I can not for the life of me make this work and its driving me mad.
Someone please tell me if I have to have data plan to do this and it will save everyone a lot of time.
I use titanium to remove the google search/voice search/voice dialer
reboot
install new google search/voice search from here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753097 (which is the only place I could find the apks.) and it should work as everyone has said... but every time it gives me connection error. Does it really need internet access to send a text message??? Generally it wont even let me finish talking before it says it.
Am I screwed by not having a data plan, or is there a way around this?
I am using vogue with incubus's 2.2 super froyo rls 12.
Thanks for your time.
I dont know the new voice commands.
But usually it uploads your recorded voice, than the google servers will try to find out what you said and than give you back the text or now the text and the actions the phone has to do.
So you need data for voice commands but not for sending a sms or something.
Correct me if im wrong.

Unfortunately, it DOES require a data connection...
But for anybody who has data, here's how I got it working...
No need to uninstall/remove anything
- Install/Update "Voice Search" from the Market. I couldn't get Google Search to install.
- Open Voice Search.
- When the window appears with the things you can say it doesn't show the whole window. I think there's 2 buttons at the bottom that you can't see. How I got past this was to press Down 4 time, Left once. This will select the "ok" or whatever button, and you won't have to do it anymore.
EDIT: Here's the pic I posted in the other thread to help anybody else.

THANK YOU. You just made my weekend. I couldn't figure out how to get past this
Another way around the startup dialog is to start it in landscape mode. The dialog fits in landscape mode. But I'll try to fix the portrait dialog with some apktool magic anyway.
So I got fed up with the look of Swype on top of Sense on my DZ, and the only mod I could find just didn't quite cut it (and didn't quite match the current keylayout either), so I put on my OCD hat, fired up the GIMP, and started aligning pixels.

It's a close to pixel-perfect as is possible - keys sizes are aligned exactly to the Swype stock keyboard, but are in every other way identical to HTC_IME.. even down to the jpeg noise on the background radial gradient.
The package is from cypis' mod, but with my own images, and the batch file modified to give you a chance to Ctrl+C out before adb goes blindly uninstalling swype on you even after something fails...
Currently WVGA Portrait QWERTY only, sorry - I'll probably get to doing a landscape version soon, but can't promise any other variants I'm afraid (OTOH I've got the text style in photoshop pretty much passing pixel-for-pixel like HTC_IME, so different character layouts with the same physical key setup should be something of a snap).
Goes without saying that you must be rooted with Swype installed for this to work - I can verify that it works with the latest official beta Swype on the Desire Z/G2, can't say for anything else however. Also, make sure adb.exe AND java.exe are available in the %PATH% of whatever environment the batch file is run from.
PSD sources also attached, do whatever with them long as you put a link back here. They're not the most well-formed of psds I've ever made, sorry; some keyboards have only raster type layers as I switched to Photoshop from the GIMP halfway through. You should be able to grab one of the newer keyboards (the symbolic one I think is pretty sanely-formed) with fully dynamic text and edit it pretty easily - you'll need to install the Droid Sans font though.
any change this will get updated for landscape?
Very nice skin!
I've already searched for such a skin but didnt find it.
How to install it?
When i start the Swype.bat it doesnt work.. My device runs in usb-debugging mode..
This is awesome!! I just themed my CM7 to Sense and installed the Swype beta, so this would be perfect for me! But how about us Linux users - any way we could adapt this to our OS? Or at least a manual way of editing the Swype APK? I took a look at the .bat file, and it looks like it's just replacing the image files and re-signing the apk, correct? Doesn't look like it should be too difficult, but I'm a bit worried I wouldn't do it right
how do i use this? will this work in desire hd?
This is really good, thanks.
yeah might do a landscape update over my holidays (next couple of weeks). Re: linux, the batch file should translate pretty much literally a shell script, as long as adb and java are in your path. 7za can be replaced with zip and unzip (you'll need to double check their syntax though), and %dp0 is just a batchism for $(pwd). Rmdir /S = rm -rf.

I'd like to know what ip you want too... because it definitely didn't want the LAN address of my phone.
The UI is deceptive. You don't need to click the connect to button (and I'm not sure it even works properly). Just click on the Android (like you would when you setup the phone) and it will extend the UI and open up the options. They work and they are pretty useful. I think if the guy wrote up a nice little how to I'd probably kick him a few bucks.
!!!
This is actually a phenomenal package, and works great w/ the Bionic. Thank you for posting this, didn't expect this in the dev section and glad I found it.
