[Q] Can't find any firmware updates - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought my Tab from Singapore back in Nov'10 and as soon as I got home, I immediately updated it to DXJK2 (which was the latest official rom available at that time).
Last week, my friend bought one from a local retailer here in the Philippines. When he showed it to me, I was surprised to learn that it had a newer rom (the unit is not carrier locked) pre-installed. Since both of our units were Asian, I thought there might be a rom update available for my unit as well. So when I got home, I immediately connected my Tab to Kies and, surprise, no update available.
I know that there is an official 2.2.1 update available from samfirmware.com. My question is, how come if there are so many newer roms available, Kies doesnt find any for mine? Im talking bout only official roms here loaded from Kies. I know I can still force it to update with Odin but that kinda defeats the point.

There are so many numbers etc im getting lost off.
I have been on samfirmware and I just cant decide which version i need to be official.
My phone currently cant send SMS and ive read thats because of something wrong with the custom FW i have on. (it was like this when i bought it from the shop second hand)

Hey there. It can be a bit confusing, but follow the notes on samfirmware and you should be fine. I upgraded from T-Mobile UK's stock firmware (I forget which version) to JPA, via JM4.
I am using JPA now (again, not sure which provider this is, but it seems to be fairly stock), with no problems.
Make sure you check the notes for each ROM (ie, some have an upgrade path, and some do not). You may need to use a different PIT file and partition accordingly.
Hope this helps.
Thanks mate,
All the release dates are old on Samfirmware, the official froyo for the uk wasnt released until November. the latest firmware on samfirmware is October....
Im really confused how i get from my FW to an official newest froyo. Kies wont work for me at all, tried 3 computers now.
Seriously, screw Kies. It wouldn't upgrade my unit (obviously as there was no provider firmware available), so I patched it with the util posted here and it flashed to about 50% then failed, thus bricking my phone in the process.
If you're not bothered about your provider bloaty junk that ships with the phone, you may as well just bite the bullet and flash JPA or JP0 via Odin. I doubt these are UK specific ROMs (as you mention, Froyo was slated for Nov here in the UK) as samfirmware's are all dated Oct 10, but my phone seems just fine- been using it for around 2 weeks now with no hitches.
Best of luck!
How about installing Doc Froyo custom rom?
It is using froyo 2.2

[Q] Kies - this version of the device cannot be updated

Please stick with me as I'm quite new to flashing this device.
A while back I flashed a new firmware to my Tab (Bought from Tesco's in the UK) open to any mobile network.
While my Tesco version said there was no update apparently the Carphone Warehouse version did come with a newer firmware. So after taking a plunge I flashed firmware JM6 (without some encryted keys or something that early adopters got stuck with).
I wondered if Samsung had released any newer firmware officially so today launched Kies and it prompted for a software update. This then uninstalled Kies and installed a new version 2.0.0.11014_49.
My device connects but then Kies states "This version of device can not be updated"
"current firmware version: PDA:JM6 / PHONE:JM6 / CSC:JM6 (XEU)"
Phone info after doing *#1234#
PDA1000XXJM6
PHONE1000XXJM6
CSC1000XAJM6
Does this mean that I will never be able to update through Kies again as it knows my firmware is not stock?
Is there a way to get back to stock or force Kies to install the latest stock
verison for my device like apple does on the iPhone?
Thanks in advance

[Q] Kies 2.0.0.11033_25/2.0.0.11032_12_9 Which one ?

Sorry if I've missed it searching but , I'm using 2.0.0.11033_25 Kies, and it tells me the latest version is already installed, but Samsung mobile says that 2.0.0. 11032_12_9 is the latest version to download. Don't know whether I'm supposed to stick with what I've got, to get Gingerbread, or get the lower numbered version on Samsungs web site, I would really value your input, by the way 2.0.0.11033_25 seems to be working fine had it for a while now. Thanks
It is the latest version and older Kies will upgrade to that version anyway .
You will get the firmware update when the network that supplied your phone update it and post it on the Kies server .

Thanks for your quick reply. Mine is a unbranded unlocked i9000 from new,I think it's been jf3, jm1 and now jpy, I don't know whether this frustrates or helps but up to now the phones not been a bit of trouble and each upgrade with kies has gone straitforwardly, sim and micro left in, and my original 3 skype retained. I think the phones great, I'm looking forward to the speed you guys talk of with the next rom, as long as it upgrades as well as before.
This site and the help that you people give are impossible to put a true value on, thanks for being there.
I think it depends on your region but _25 is a January build while _12 is a March build.
I didn't realise that, tell you whats funny though,on one computer(vista.)I've got _25and on another(Xp) I've got _12, yet they both say they have the latest version. Either way, neither show a natural Kies update yet. Thanks again.

[Q] When will the next Kies update be?

Hi,
I see Samsung is working on their I9000 firmware, but when will they officially release a new update via KIES?
Ofcourse I am using latest leaked version. But I was just wondering.
They don't usually have release dates available, so it is very hard to tell, they even don't have the same version of kies for different countries.
I've seen that Samsung UK is always one of the first sites to get Kies updated, other countries don't update Kies until later:
http://www.samsung.com/uk/kies/
You can check regularly if a new version is available.. but your kies does the same thing every time you open it...

[Q] OTA update 4.3 for Singapore handset used in the UK

I have an unrooted I9305 bought new from eBay in the UK, I believe the handset came from Singapore. I did a factory reset on it once and it restarted in Chinese or something similar!
I have just received an OTA notification that Android 4.3 is available, I haven't installed it yet. I am in the UK on T-mobile. Is it safe or advisable to install this update? From what I understand it will be 4.3 designed for Singapore, I don't want to screw my phone! I contacted Samsung support who came back to me within a couple of hours, confirmed that the handset was from Singapore but didn't seem too sure what would happen if I take the update. They suggested I should take it to a Samsung service centre and have it flashed with the UK stock firmware (which I would prefer) but the nearest one is 40 miles away, they would probably charge me for it, and Samsung said it would invalidate the warranty anyway.
I tried Kies to see if it would give me any more information about exactly what the update is, but Kies seems to be confused. I have version 2.6.1.13105_6 which is the latest according to Help->Check for updates in Kies itself, but when I plug in my phone Kies tells me I have to update Kies itself before updating my firmware. Samsung suggested using Kies3 which I tried but it says my phone is not compatible. I have had slightly better luck with an older version of Kies 2.3.3.xxx which displays my current firmware version and tells me there is an update, but doesn't show the latest firmware version so I still don't know what it will be.
I have just installed a smaller FOTA update and the handset build number now shows JZO54K.I9305ZHBMK1 but this gets no hits in Google so I don't know what it is.
I haven't rooted the phone as the guides usually say only do this if you know what you are doing, and I am clever enough to know how much I don't know!
Is it safe to install the OTA update and will it lose my current settings (like language) if I do? Or is there a better solution?

no u won't lose language english is in the blood of every Rom
Download a uk rom a d flash it with odin if ur afraid of any network issues. Since yur going to update via ota it makes no diff. Ur bootloader will be updated to the knox bootloader. And since you are not going to root it... just use odin to flash official i9305 firmwares. You cant go wrong.

I hope you are right! I presume flashing the firmware will remove all the apps and data I have put on the phone? Alternatively if I just take the OTA update is it likely to cause any issues or you can't be sure what it will do? And will that also wipe all my current apps and data? I have all the standard stuff backed up but since I haven't rooted there is some app data that can't be backed up, as far as I know.
As i have experienced before... unrooted phones data is not possible to be backed up. Heard of helium but yet to use it. So you may actually find out more about Helium app. Another alternative is you can use Kies to back up data.
Secondly check your gsm and lte bands of your phone and the carrier that ur using in uk. If the carrier supports it then it should not be of any issues with connectivity. Sgp phones are unlocked and usable worldwide. I dont see any issues unless your phone is faulty.
