I have updated to the BN 1.2 update and run manual nooter 4.4.27 and seem to be having good results. As BN states they don't support an exchange server, I attempted to install the Android 2.2 email.apk I used the directions posted here:
at nookdevs.com/NookColor_Email just changing the email program from the 2.1 they talk about to 2.2
I can install and connect to my exchange server, but when I reboot, all account setup is lost. I have to go back thru and resetup the account again. When I tried this previously (BN 1.1, and using touchdown) I also lost my account setup. Any ideas on why it won't retain my account settings?

same problem here.
touchdown seems to work and k9 mail or the good Kaiten do to although not sure if they are offering pure exchange the way touchdown does.
My first thought would be that you don't have sufficient access to the directory where it's trying to save the profile config info.
You may want to investigate what that direcotory is (I'd try contacting whoever wrote the app) and then check your permissions on that directory.
TouchDown works well and adds Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes with active sync. I am happy.
Only issue with touchdown its it its good for only one account. Would have liked to have multi email account support.
From 1.2 Nook Color
I tried touchdown while I was still in version 1.1. It would not retain my user info either. It only allowed me to sync 1 time and then I would have to perform the setup again. Can't say as I was able to really try it out that way.

Check with your exchange admin. If you have OWA (Outlook Web Access) enabled on your account (and the other accounts with login/pass) you can access via browser. I've had users do that (stock and Dolphin) and seems to work fine. Fewer functions available (Search is one in Outlook) but basic functions do work.

It seems that number of people who need Exchange support (via work or school) is growing.
This thread will provide definitive information about status of Exchange on various builds and brief reviews of Exchange apps available on the market.
------------
Stuff to come:
Exchange on Eclair
2- Exchange on Tattoo
3- Exchange on Hero
Well, 'full' exchange works on tattoo and hero, that's for sure. Myn tried to port the Eclair mail app to donut but the were a lot of lib requirements that made the system slow.
Of course, by full here I mean mail, calendar, contacts. I don't really use tasks so I haven't tracked that between builds.
Email works fine with the "Work Email" app using MYN's Warm Donut Release 3. I haven't been able to test Calendar with anything. (haven't found a free app for that)
I tried the Work Email in Myn's build. Occasionally, I get "sync protocol error." I had to manually refresh the email time to time in order to receive the email.
I gave up using Work Email. Instead, I use Gmail to pull my work email via POP3. I found when I reply my work email in gmail app, it correctly uses my work email address to send instead of my gmail address (just like the desktop version).
I found this is a good compromise because I only need one email app running which saves battery. The only problem is that gmail pulls the work email every hour or so.
What, if any, is the difference between Push mail and exchange mail?
What service is delivering my Gmail to the phone almost instantaneously? My main email account was with Yahoo. But Yahoo Mail required a periodic refreshing(hourly or whatever). I paid Yahoo $10 to upgrade and then I forwarded my Yahoo Mail to my Gmail account.
I signed in with my Gmail account on Android. Now I get my emails almost instantly from both addresses.....I assume this is using the "Push mail" feature of Android and Gmail. What are the benefits of "exchange mail" and do you need to have your Email running from MS Outlook on a desktop to utilize "exchange mail"?

Push mail is part of ActiveSync. Google licensed ActiveSync from Microsoft so that WinMo users could use the built-in ActiveSync on their phones to get their gmail and google calendar. With the work email app on android, you can choose to download mail items as they arrive which I assume is using the Microsoft 'push' functionality. I don't know how they work it with the gmail app.
I have been using Touchdown. It has worked great, very easy setup.
Syncs everything, mail, contacts, calender, tasks.
Mail, calendar, contacts work on mssmison's new eclair (non-sense) build.

Moxier Mail is also a great solution. MUCH better interface than Touchdown IMO

I tried taking the Corporate Calendar from that and running it in Warm-Donut but it won't install
Anybody have any luck getting Exchange connectivity to work with mssmision's 1.4 build on a vogue?
Data is working fine for me, but "unable to open connection to server" whenever I try to set it up.
Gmail sync seems to work fine.
Connecting to exchange 2003, with no SSL.
*seems like I got it working it working by messing around with turning SSL on and off, and re-entering various details. It's syncing now
I have had challenges receiving messages with 1.2-1.4, but original 1.1 ported over to 240 works very well.

Corp calendar is only for 2.0.1 onwards, whereas Myn's s 1.6 - it won't run. Try moxier mail which is equally good.

does the 'work email' app only work for over the air connections? the exchange server at work only creates partnerships on 'hard connections'
thanks in advance
OK so i have tried moxier mail, work email, and roadsync, all three seem to use OTA (over the air) sync partnership only.
is there any app out there that uses USB connection to establish a partnership for exchange? or better yet, is there a WinXP driver someplace for the 'android phone' that i can install?
i have this one bump and i can go android 100% any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure about that - I wouldn't think it matters if you could actually make a direct connection via usb...

OK so i get USB is out for the time. got a suggestion from an other board to place the enterprise security certificate in the android folder.
more questions
1. will this replace the need to create a partnership via USB?
2. where should it go to even begin to attempt to see if it works?
thanks again
This thread is long dead, but just for the record - starting in FroYo (2.2), android has native support for email / calendar / contacts.

one thing folks need to understand is that there are some companies (the one i work for for example) who have every exchange security protocol imaginable in place and are not willing to reset for people. this produces problems as with this situation as active-sync is required for a hard line connection to install the security software on your device (3 min security time out- needs to be unlocked more often than typical) and using gmail as a redirector is not a viable option as those features are "not supported'
many of the 'exchange clients' on the market today rely on OTA delivery and security to be in place. IMO there is no true solution to exchange mail for android. there are fixes for calendar and contacts witch is a step in the right direction... but not a 1-fix-it-solution. i have been looking for one for over a year and there is nothing to be done till google and M$ get together and have a pow-wow or sort out what-is-what with security.
YES, there are many good attempts out there but none to help the fully secure.
Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft
Small update:
My Hotmail account was upgraded to Wave 4 this morning... Hotmail via Exchange? Still no go. It worked for about an hour back on 17th June, and nothing since.
Well it's all working again now
so its real push service?
if yes i need try this
i wa susing SEVEN but lack of html =(
Yes, it's proper push.
I run exchange on my phone along with 2 gmail accounts. I use gmail app for the gmail accounts and the stock email app for my exchange account. My gmail accounts auto retrive emails, but recently the exchange emails are not auto syncing or retriving. When i go to change the settings, the option for Retrieve Interval is set to "off" and is blacked out so i cannot change it. What happened so that this changed, because a few days ago it was working fine. Permissions Check does not change this. I am rooted and on Cubes' De-Crapped v1.1 rom.

Android 2.2 Email client has many many issues working with exchanges. 2.1 works great 2.3 works so good it is almost a religious experience but 2.2 licks the underside of male genitals...
I get constant authentication errors with mine. I had the same issues with my Droid Eris when I ran 2.2 on it. When I switched to 2.3 it was a thing of beauty.
Your only option is to get your exchange admin to adjust your exchange server to fix the problems (good luck), wait for 2.3, or download another app to handle your exchange email.
Sorry...

luckily im one of the exchange admins, but i havnt really found a way to force said device to push to the phone without crapping all over the blackberry server too. but then again, i also havnt dicked too deep in the server. suggestions?
Is anyone else here on 2.3.6 with their Note (Rooted and CWM Kernel also) having problems with Exchange email?
I use a hosted exchange provider for my email, and have seen this issue before with Samsung (and some HTC) devices where Exchange Activesync just doesn't seem to work. I had this issue before with an AT&T Galaxy Tab I had tried a different ROM on to enable the phone radio in the Tab. It would never sync email, but the stock ROM would.
I know the account was added to the Note correctly, because I didn't get any error messages during setup, and I also got the prompt to confirm the security configuration change (to allow remote wipe, etc). The device also shows up correctly in the mobile device listing in Outlook Web Access in my account.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, and what you did to fix it? Not really interested in a 3rd-party mail client like Touchdown, etc. Would prefer to use native apps.
Thanks, please advise.

If you want it for gmail, try this.
Go to Email - entre gmail credential - select manual setup - select exchange active sync - keep user ID n PW as it is n add m.google.com in server field, finish setup with rest of as per your desire
Thanks, but I am not interested in Gmail. I have already added a secondary gmail account and it works just fine.
I am trying to get a true Exchange (Corporate, of sorts) email account working. It kinda acts like it wants to work (I am seeing some Exchange calendar entries) but no emails or contacts yet... <sigh>

Mine is working fine. It sync my email with the exchange server. Im using Rocket ROM.
Using exchange exclusively also (hosted server) never had a problem. I tried with stock, then 2 different cooked roms. All worked perfectly. Am on latest rocky now.
Sent from a biga$$ Galaxy Note using XDA premium
Exchange email pushed OK, but calendar push never
Outlook email is pushed correct, but calendar never. Which application do you use for view/sync exchange calendar ?
Hi all!
I was wondering if many people are using Exchange accounts on Note's generic mail application.
If so, do you have any problems?
For me one account works just fine (free windowslive account - yes it has exchange! you can sync calendar and contacts), but another wont.
It cant sync anything (showing cant connect to the server error), I can only see folder structure on my account..
I guess most of you are using gmail, but I don't like google. haha yea i hate google and just bought an android phone
Hi,

How did you get on?

I am slightly confused. Are you trying to use them at the same time? What version of exchange are you trying to connect to that has problems? Does it use a third party certificate or a self-generated certificate (which would have to be installed on your device). While I have connected to Exchange 2010 with no problem I am currently using Touchdown instead of the built-in app, but only because I like the way it handles deletes. The built-in app worked flawlessly.
I use both mail clients quite a bit..
Both worth quite well. (though I find the in built exchange mail app to be clunky and crappy, am seriously considering forking out for a high priced market place app to replace it, though I'll wait and see what the ICS version is like first)
i'm using touchdown app for my office exchange email
I find Enhanced Email works best for Exchange and all other emails.

Yes I'm trying to set up two Exchange accounts to work at the same time.. But I have also tried to set it up (the problematic one) on wiped phone - with no success..
I do not know what version of Exchange it is.
As soon as i find free trial version of Enhanced Email i will try it.
Yes, I use 2 exchange accounts, one is with my work Exchange 2010 server with a proper certificate installed, this one works. The other is a MS Live @ Edu account which worked previously on LA3 and below. I have tried removing the device from the options on my web login for mobile devices.
I have also done a full data wipe on the device including cache and dalvik and freshly booted and tried to add this account and it consistently won't work. What I HAVE noticed though is that I now have to agree to a Samsung message where it tells me that a unique code will be assigned and certain portions of my usage will be reported back to them (or words to this effect)
I can connect flawlessly to my work Exchange account though. I can also connect just fine on my old Dell Streak (with Gingerbread 2.3.3) to this problematic account.
When I get a chance I will flash back to LA3 or an older KK build and try again, it's just a pain to re-install all my apps and settings. Given everything else is great. I have just worked around it for now by forwarding my mail to the other account.
Hi guys, I too have this problem, I can't managed to login into my exchange, using LA3 rom
