Hi,
just about the time when i flashed JV1, my lightsensor stopped working properly.
It's so annoying when auto-brightness just jumps between low brightness and full brightness.
I thought it might be a bug. But now with JVB it still doesn't work. I checked it with a few sensor test apps and it outputs either 6.0 lux or 5000.0 lux.
Does anynone else have this problem? Is there a possibility to flash the eclair or froyo "lightsensor driver"?
Anyone? 10char
It's not a bug, it's a feature.....blame Samsung.
Yes, everyone has that.
Update to JVB and everything will be fine I dont have any big issues with GB, since I'm using Darkys Rom v10 Just check out his thread.

I have JVB and I have this issue also.
Well, that was only an advice For me it works very well without issues, so I'll stay at JVB till a new Rom will come out with GB, of course by darky.
Same issue here. Refleshing to JVB did not help

Same here, downloaded brightness widget from market and keep it on 25% now.
Anybody got any updates on this, or some kind of fix? Really weird, because it seems only some have this problem, but it seems to be the case with a few other phones too.
My galaxy s has been behaving like this always, since I first bought it with stock gingerbread, and there's no difference in Darkys Rom 10.1. Light sensor goes from either 6 lux to 5000 lux in Androsensor, and the proximity sensor behaves the same way (only two values).
Shortly after posting this, I came across
darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/brightness-fix-for-jvp-jvq.4019/ <- that tread (apparently I'm not allowed to post links yet).
Even though I am on JVH, and the fix uses files from JVH to apply to JVP/JVQ, it worked wonders on my phone!
This fix worked also for me.
With simple Honey 5.1 on JVS with speedmode kernel.
Thanks a lot..

I´m in JM5 , and i think about upgrading to JP3...
is it a good ideia ?
No.. Highmem has been merged into the eclair trees, MobileAP is totally broken (and there are many other broken/crashing things) and finally, JIT isn't available in that build anyway (so no real speed benefit).
The only reason for using Froyo at the moment is if you have apps that require Froyo, or there are API's in Froyo you want access to.
Otherwise, trust me, you are wasting your time with it. I installed it because I couldn't help myself, used it for 2 days, and then reverted because it was an inconvenience.
I am finding JM5 more stable. I've tried both. Im not going to bother with JP3 again.

ok..
thank you guys =D
the leaked 2.2 is not stable enough
i'll wait for the final
I tried the new builds, but went back to JF3, which came on the phone.
As the others mentioned, I will wait for the official release.
upside, you can view flash on the browser./
These ROM versions are getting confusing - is JM5 newer/older/better/worse than JG5 or are they practically the same?
tried it for a week and it got very slow even with tweaks.Wait for another leak or the official version
I tried JP3 i found it abit laggy but it was a good taste of what 2.2 to come
Google Maps just force-closed on launching for me in JP3 - that was a complete deal-breaker, so I reverted.
JM5 is a later version than JG5 (at least it should be)
I've had no problems with JP3 at all and have benchmarked 1843 with it......Everything has worked fine for me on it??
I'm running JP3 as well and very pleased with it. I tried it on 2 previous occasions but couldn't get it to work well and reverted. A few days ago I did a fresh install, rooted by downgrading the kernel to JP2, rooted and upgrade kenel back to JP3.
Root access made it possible to fix all the little bugs on the ROM, so now I wouldn't go back. The only thing broken is Mobile AP, otherwise it's smooth, lag free and working as well as any other ROM

which little bugs did you fix?
also wouldnt JH2 kernel work on JP3 rom and fix the lag without ext3/4 on sdcard trick?
I'd stick with JM5, someone mentioned about Flash but you can get that working on Eclair. I actually had it running on the stock ROM, just check over in the Apps and Themes section for the .apk, it seems to work quite well.
Been using JP3 for a week now, followed the guide on hemorrdroids.net (search for "Galaxy S FroYo With New Speed Fix!" but I did not apply the speed fix.
Honestly the phone is at least 3x faster then the stock version that came with it.
Seems to be working VERY stable except for the AP Wireless option which is broken.
Have not had any issues besides one crash when tried to use AP.
After using both JM5 and JP3 I can assure that at least with me the froto update is ablot smoother even without the lagfix applied... After the lagfix it just flies really...

Too buggy for now. I'm sticking with JM5, have already tried 3 custom jp3's and they all sucked.
I'm also running the JP3 without any problems. The JM5 was fine, but seems to default to Russian. Anyone knows where I can find the real original JF3? Just in case I want to go back.
I missed Froyo JP3 ROM. after loading back DXJG4(latest Official South East Asia ROM ),the Eclair ROM has this bad memory management problem. without using Task killer..the lag will come back..even after lagfix.
On JP3,I dont need to use task killer, I have no sudden blackout problem.
hy guys
i try to open this thread because i have some little question about my galaxy s and i hope that here i can find one solution, or in any case, take some suggestion!
i have this smartphone since 2 months and during this time i have try to change some firmwares, because the original firmware for me was very very slow for one smartphone with this hardware.
i have try before the release jm2 and now i have onboard the release xwjm5, samset 1.9f (i have found it in this forum).
i have not particular situation, but i want only use this smartphone, during a normal day, without lag or "black screen".
i have also try to install "one click lag fix", as i have read always here in this forum, but i don't see (my impression) the speed better than before.
now, i'm waiting froyo, and i know (and i hope!) that this new version of android will solve this problem; but, during this time, i need a fast and stable version of eclair.
what you can suggest for me?
1: i try to install another time jm5 but before i make a "wipe"?
2: you can suggest other firmware that is more fast and stable?
3: any other idea/ suggestion?
4: you confirm that at this moment, the release of froyo is not stable and not good for work with this firmware all days?
thanks for your help guys!
sam
Try Modaco's pre-rooted Froyo ROM (XXJP3), works fine for me.
I also tried JPC but for me it was to buggy too. So i decided to try the JM7 by Richthofen. After 2 days of usage my rooted JM7 with One-Click Lagfix is great! My phone is flying, and i havent found any bug until now. No lags, no blackscreens, everthing is fine and i will wait for the final version of froyo.

Have a question for you guys.
What is the difference in JPU and JPX firmwares?
I have tried both and there doesn't seem to be any drastic changes. I know that the JPX is Official and for Europe. So does that mean JPU was only a beta version?
Kies is working on JPX. Yes JPU was a beta.
JPX is probably just more refined hence it's being released through Kies so Samsung are ready to go public with this firmware.
Also this should be in general.

Kies still not working in JPX..though the system is recognizing.. kies doesn't from inside the application!!!

Why you think JPU is beta and JPX official? Have you some evidence? Work by me werry well JPU long time, without any bugs or issue...
One question more, why we need Kies, if we now have OTA firmware updater inside phone? Kies is unneccesary in future for firmware updating on my opinion....
Regards
One more thing..Earlier JPU had an issue with contacts app still running.. Currently that is fixedd!!!

Yeah, something called test firmware and release firmware....
And only complete noobs actually use Kies - "pro" users havent used it since a week after buying the phone.
What about the Gallery Sensor Issue?

I`m still on JPU, coz Darkyy have not JPX
but Kalpic said JPU is beta from JPX
& dont have reason not belive him
Not that quadrant scores means squat, but JPX gives 1100 vs 1220 on JPU.

That Bug is currently fixed. After opening contacts. Press back. Open up task manager. YOU wont be able to find contacts as one of the running processes. So I pretty much feel that bug is fixed!!!

Is there any improvement in terms of bettery life with JPX over JPU? I am on Darky's 5.6 and while the battery life is certainly tolerable, its considerably lesser than older roms. If JPX can fix that, it would be awesome.

Battery life and GPS seem better for me however it is still early
As for me after i updated to official jpx from the beta jpu, battery now is fixed and not jumping from 100% to 98% right after un pluging the device. Samsung's Program monitor does the good job by ending the contacts right after you're done using the contacts app amazingly, its widget does not close or vanish right after you use it to un-install applications and stuffs, Good job Samsung! Keyboard is fixed, web browser is still the same you can open 4 pages and does not go beyond that like eclair's and froyo 2.2, but by default the plug-ins were set to "on demand" other significant features were improved like the new Vending market of android with top scrolling carousel of which isn't there on jpu 2.2.1. Less lags and no more forecloses. Root works only if you use "Super Oneclick". Wifi is good and works if your using it and disables if the screen is of (i set it to turn of if the screen is of) dis-organized apps inside TW. the rest is up for you guys to observe or to test the difference for you-selves.
Anyone knows how to remove the touch led bug from jvb?
I flashed this which was posted on Darkys forum for that problem. Though I believe the fix has been included in the latest beta.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/560086/Gingerbread 2.3.3_Backlight_fix_CWM_update.zip
Not taking any responsibility if this breaks your phone, or causes nuclear war, but it worked for me.
i am on docs so wont take the risk just in case.any one knows other solutions?
Don't worry, it wasn't made for darky. It was posted in the general deodexed jvk thread. It will work.
knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
Thanks. It works, and it should work on any 2.3.3 (.so file).
theres a beta kernel which you could also use, its based on chainfire's 3.1 JVB kernel (i couldnt find the topic in the dev section,so ive posted it here.)
it turns off the LED lights in about 1.8 seconds
Problems solved.thanks
hi everyone, confirm that this fix works fine also on JVB deodex stock rom! ;-)
Hi!
I've been using my Galaxy S (I9000 16gb) with Darky's 10.1 and Voodoo for a couple of months and now i have flashed latest Darky's 10.2. I understand that Darky is working hard on his releases, but for several reasons i don't like 10.2 version at all.
Can you please recommend me a good fast ROM with good modem part for a GPS and latest version voodoo kernel? I constantly use GPS and listen to the music so these are the crucial parts. Or maybe just separate modem and voodoo kernel that I can flash on a Cyanogenmod for example.
Thank you!
Try doctorz rom....click on my sig.

GPS depends on region, I'm from Europe.
Also u should try newest Darkys based on JVQ cuz they wont continue JVR development.
hmm , with all the music controls on the lockscreems aamd all the optional lockscreens you get with the nexus S gps fix , I wonder why nobody has suggested my rom .
Older ROM
I've upgraded to both JVR and JVS ROMs, but always found myself going back to the JVQ ROM instead, and just flashed updated system apps, etc.
Battery life is poor on the upgrades, and not as efficient...some are quite slow.
The best (fastest and most stable) ROM I've tested is F1 SGSII ROM Faryaab V6.
The developer released v7 of this ROM (JVR), but not as good, so again downgraded.
I've tried close to 10 ROMs (JVP, JVQ, JVR, JVS), including the stock ROMs for these upgrades, but none are better.
I suggest, if there is a ROM you like, use it, then just search/browse for apps you liked from other ROMs and create your custom feel.
market doesn't work
Thank you guys! I have flashed Darky's 10.3 and now I can't download any apps from the market, it just keeps saying something like "Starting download". I experienced same thing on 10.2. What is the problem? This is ROMs fault or something is wrong with settings? Everything was working back on the 10.1.

Which version of Android Market do you have?
Some of the newer custom ROMs clash with the older version of the market for no particular reason. Do a google search for version 3.0.27, which I think is the latest for Market. Install the apk and hopefully your problems are resolved.

I had old one. Installed 3.0.27 and the problem is still there.
Try the App "GPS AIDS" (I know its a goofy name) from the market.
For some SGS users, that's all they needed to get their GPS fixed...
