I have all of the files for the flashable ROM root process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870
Although, when I attempt to extract the 8GB CWM SD card image from the ZIP inside the TAR file, I get a WinZip error. I've only found a couple other reports of this error, and no solution. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions?
Download 7zip. It should do the trick.

I have made several nandroid backups using clockworkrecovery mod and Rom manager. It places them on my sd card. There are a few files under each backup folder. cache.img data.img datadata.img system.img
What kind of files are these? I tried changing the extention to .zip, .rar, .tar to see what was in each one of them but each time I couldnt open it on my computer. What can I use to look in each one of the "image" files?
You could try looking at some .iso mounting programs, I would imagine that it is a disc image file which can/should be able to be mounted... Not sure what os you're using but there actually is a microsoft unofficial app that allows direct mounting of .iso and .img files in xp, should be able to find it with google search...

Like it says in the title I have downloaded kejar's deodexed debloated but when I boot to recovery it doesn't show my downloads folder or any folders at all except backups in nandroid. So I renamed it to update.zip and moved it to the root of sd I tried navigating to it through choose from sd but no luck still. Then just as a shot in the wind I tried running install update.zip from sd since I knew everything was in place for that and still no dice. Oh I have also tried restrapping and tried again. Anyone else having this issue or know what I can do?

Your moving it to sd card not sdcard-ext, you got to remember the sdcard is actually the phone, sdcard-ext is the sd card. Just move the file then try you should be good

Hi,
I am trying to update ATT Captivate from Froyo to Gingerbread. I first copied zip file into sd and flash back to stock JF6 rom. Then I did a facotry reset which erase everytthing on SD and I forget to copy zip file back again. I then used Apex flasher to flash GB 2.3.3 bootloader and the kernel. Now I can get into CWM recovery but there is not zip file I can flash. Does this happens to anyone before and what is the solution?
Thanks
you should be able to mount your sd card from cwm and drag the zip from your computer. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I saw that it was possible on one of the mobile tech reviews.

Yes it works.
I do it all the time while testing, get finished compiling an apk and throwing it in a zip, then get too exited and boot into recovery before I copy it over
Mounts and storage> mount USB storage

Thank you guys! You are awesome! I really appreciate your help! Just copied Apex 9.2 ROM into SD and get it installed. Thanks again!
I've been trying to flash the XXLA4 firmware as instructed in this thread. However, i always get a triangle with android logo when the process starts and then reboots. I've tried both with CWM manager & Mobile Odin Pro without any success.
I've been able to install it with Odin PC but there was no root so i'm back with a rootable ROM XXKL3. What am i doing wrong?
I've attached the relevant screen shots.
Make confirm you have extracted file after downloading ROM.
In case of using CWM, you shud place that file to 'firmware' folder of ext SD card.
then follow the steps as you have mentioned a link.
I did extract the downloaded file, so my file now reads N7000XXLA4_N7000OXALA4_N7000XXLA4_HOME.tar.md5.
The file is placed inside sdcard/external_sd/firmware filder and i've also verified the md5 with mobile odin pro.
As you desrcibe everything is OK, but in few cases Ext memory card can be faulty, Try to put file on Int memory n try with Mobile Odin
YES YES putting the file in the internal memory works!!! Thanks you so much dr.ketan.
BTW does it mean there is something wrong with my external card?
ya obviously
hello, i've got a problem with recovery in my Ace. I wanted to root it, but when i uploaded the file root.zip on the sd card, recovery doesn't see that. The file is certainly on the sd card, i've tried to change the designation to update.zip but it didn't help, cause recovery can't see any files, only folders. Thanks in advance for help.
It is the problem with the unclean android system. Flash stock via odin & format sd card & copy the files freshly. Everything will be alright.
