as the title says, the 2.3 browser seems to be lacking somewhat. Cant get any GIFs to work even with third party apps like opera and miren. (I like gifs, part of the shame of tumblr)
Is this just me? Is there something i'm missing?
and the stock browser only has four pages. Booo!

This stuff worked fine on froyo my girlfriends 3 year old I hone has no problem with GIF's.
Fyi opera does display gifs most of the time. Its a buggy browser though. I'm not a happy galaxy s owner atm.

I was think, maybe Flash Player is guilty, but from v10.2 to newest 10.3 version is same, not gif animation in any browser.
If someone will try, i really need animation from this site, but no work on Gingerbread, but on Froyo work:

Has anyone tried it on SGS? It is supposed to use GPU accelleration which rocks on the SGS. Unfortunately I am on a business trip and do not have any data and cannot try it. How does it compare to the crappy stock browser?
The hardware acceleration us not implemented yet. Flash does not work. But opera is nice and fast at all. I think the final will be really good.
Ps: In my opinion the stock browser is a really good browser too.
Downloading right now... Will check it out
Its gray for now, can't wait until the full version is out

Uses a lot of memory. Pinch and zoom not all that great. As of now opera mini is better. Hopefully the final version will be good. They have already come out with an update. Haven't tried it after that though.

No issue here. Fusion 1.8
I think the secret is flash. I may be wrong but on 2.1 you did not have it. On 2.2 you do. Set plug ins to on demand in browser settings. Should fix
CM7
Serendipity 6.2 opens it like butter.

How is it when scrolling? Smooth?, choppy? What about the pinch to zoom?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I have run a few roms...cognition, andromeda and now cm7 gingerbread but the browser lag does not seem to go away. This site on eclair used to have very smooth scrolling. I did a google search and have found a few people with the same problem. I have tried different browsers and opera mobile seems to be the smoothest but has a few noticable problems when opening a few pages. Some say that the froyo browser likes to keep your last page in memory at all times so when you hit "back", it is seamless, but im not sure if this is true. Any suggestions or explanations would be greatly appreciated, thanks for the feedback.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Honestly I am not sure what the issue is. First if you have not tried please change your plug in settings to on demand in your browser. That its the only thing imaginable that could be causing an issue. The browser in eclair sucks in comparison to 2.2 and 2.3 it is not even close
Secondly, stock is always an option
4 different people were nice enough to click the link, no one reported any issues.
CM7
Thanks for the feedback

I flashed back to Eclair, all of the laggy scrolling is gone and the phone actually feels more snappy. I know it sounds crazy but it is true, I'm going to update to Froyo and test the browser one more time If it is still laggy I think Eclair is for me for the time being. Such a shame that something that is improving something can wreck it, oh well.
Anyone else having problems with the ics browser?. It crashes if you type in the browser adress, fast. If you type very slowly, it works.

Install chrome or dolphin. Why you still stuck on the stock browser?
I dont think it suck. I just think its bad it doesnt work. Had dolphin. Think stock is better. Chrome isnt available in norway.
But i love the ics! So smooth.

It took me all of two minutes to find it on the Web.

I've tested all these browsers completely.
The ICS+ browser on the market is really good in that it has a permanent desktop setting and some nice gestures.
The only two third party browsers that hold up ( in terms of downloading heavy sites fast) are boat browser mini, and Opera Mobile. Now havent done my 5site test ina while and things might have changed a bit but the other browser whilefeature friendly are just slightly slower...or more than slightly in some cases.
Nice! Thanks man.

I use the rocket rom ics. Any difference in the browser there, and the ics browser in marked? Or is it just the OS that is unstable? Or the rom?

So after updating to ICS decided to download Chrome. After doing so i found out 'NO FLASH', what gives? I did a search and found out this was known back in February. Regardles of this why push something only to criple it? Is Google becoming Apple or why didnt Adobe include Flash support for Chrome? I guess stuck with Dolphin or now try and use stock browers. What do you guys think of this? I am a bit pissed.

If something like that pisses you off, then you need to take a step back and take a deep breath.

As if you did not Chrome does not have flash. Flash is buggy and crashes and just crap. Any website that forces flash is pretty useless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
i beleive that the lack of flash is directly related to adobe's decision to stop releasing new iterations of mobile flash. the updates that adobe pushes are merely fixes for the current version of mobile flash. there will be no new version releases afaik.

Chrome
- fast
- sync with desktop
- did I say fast?
win
TBH stock ICS browser is pretty fast IMO not hard to keep it around for the occasional use of flash. Anyhow flash is on the way out with no more official support in 4.1. Wouldn't want to be an adobe shareholder
Only reason why i am asking is because i browse several website that run flash. Not really wanting to have different browser for different sites, but it looks like i will need to.

Not having Flash support on mobile = not having full web experience
even thought Flash is in its way out, it still relevant and widely use in a lot of popular sites (hulu, dailymotion, local news web sites etc) yeah they all offer mobile apps or mobile sites, but that is not the full web experience is crippled experience. The main reason I have an android is to be able to watch every freaking site like on my desktop and watch videos from earthcam and firstrowsports, if 4.1 is not going to have flash support then I'll just move to apple.
hmmm... before i use chrome... i have a little bit hesitation because it dont have flash... but some of the site has start supporting html5 and most of the flash site i used to browse also have no problem being open in chrome...
Adobe Flash Player for Android will die in a month, there is no reason to support it on a new browser. Read this
Have you tried Flashify?
why use chrome?after ics update the stock browser is much2 better than in HC.no more lag n speedy + flash support
chrome is lagging

There a few sites i visit that run flash and i tried to run them in stock browser and they DO NOT work so stock browser does not suppprt all flash running sites. I have reverted back to Dolphin for tab.

Opera Mobile is the best browser for me not only because it reads flash but it's the one and only to have dynamic text formating ability.. With other browser when you zoom in, text is cut on left and right side.
Adobe stopped flash development in Android devices , it's no longer supported
Not supported by Adobe. But there are still tons of sites which use flash on the Web !!
I can't recommend Firefox nightly enough. Fastest, most smoothest browsing experience yet.

Yes, Opera have been the best for a long time. I've gotten used to the start page together with Opera Link to sync favorites etc. They have been lazy on updates and bug fixes on mobile version though... too many old bugs.
Firefox vs chrome vs Dilphin ..
Addons vs speed vs gestures, which is better in ur experience ?
I periodically try the others, but keep going back to Maxthon. Not much in the way of add-ons, but then I don't need much. The built-in "reader" mode works for most sites and gives an easy-to-read, clutter-free experience.
Boat browser, by far.

Tried a lot of browsers but stock browser is still my favourite by far. Its Quick Controls feature is something I can't live without.
I was actually getting fed up last night with chrome and chrome beta crashing every 2 seconds so i jumped on play store and grabbed a random browser just for fun, i found UC Browser HD and so far i absolutely love it! It works great in portrait and landscape and it feels like it loads pages really quick. Also, i almost forget to mention two finger swipe for adding and closing tabs and a handy little toolbar on the bottom right that you can add shortcuts to, right under where your right thumb usually rests.

I'd like to mention that for me UC browser was horrible because it spammed my devices. I complained directly in their forum and asked for ad free version but they don't have a pay version. So for me UC was out of the game.

I prefer using the stock aosp browser but on my n7 it geta wonky on every rom ive tried. It will randonly freeze up and fc and stop being able to go back to the last page. I dont have time to get around and try every rom because of time and because i have 3 users on the device so restoring is a *****. If someone could pm me a rom that the aosp browser (not chrome) works good for them id appreciate it.
Opera is amazing. Chrome is good. Firefox has really upped their game lately and I still hate stock.

Well, I use ad blocker, too. When using UC Browser the first page/start screen showed always ads. To be true, if you're willing you can ignore it... but I am very sensitive to ads. They annoy me.
For all fans of Dolphin browser ->
read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319529
Right now I'm using stock CM browser.
The AOSP browser by a long mile, IMHO... Sure, the other browsers (Dolphin, Opera, Maxthon) might have more options (lots of bells and whistles), but AOSP has the edge in terms of speed and smoothness.
For anybody not rooted or unwilling to flash a custom ROM, then Lightning Browser is the next best thing to the AOSP browser... (IMHO, of course).

But on my n7, I use Firefox because of f-sync, add-ons and flash...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Tried almost all browsers in market and my favorite browser is AOSP browser love that speed and flash support. But sometime using Chrome because of browser sync feature is really useful.
How do I get firefox to work with flash ?
I tried installing the archived android flash from adobe website and nothing ?
I've recently switched to AOSP browser, and I'm happy with it.
I used chrome before, but got annoyed by those popup bubbles when clicking links, because it ended up showing a bubble EVERY time I'd click something.
And also I can't stand their text scaling, most signatures on XDA were MASSIVE while actual posts were tiny.
I tried other browsers as well, every one had something that bugged me (like swiping from one side would bring up a menu or such...)
I still use Firefox occasionally when chrome or AOSP won't download something or for very rare flash.
