GB Theme Help - Text Hightlight Color - Android Themes

I've pretty much gotten a theme put together for GB (using CM). However, I've run into one small but annoying issue; the highlight color when highlighting a word or words. We still get that gawd awful orange/yellow.
I assume what controls the color is an .xml file as we've made adjustments to virtually every graphic both in framework and systemui. However, a lot of the .xml files are cryptically named so it's hard to zero in.
If any GB themer could shed some light and point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

help with theming

Hey fellas
I'm currently working on trying to replace the default android orange buttons, highlights, etc with the green HTC versions but I'm having trouble with a few files. I can't seem to figure out where the progress bar is located. I replaced the one within the framework-res folder but things like the market place and other apps still come up orange. Are these progress bars perhaps app specific instead of utilizing the one in the framework-res folder or is there another location that contains the progress bar and the highlights that come up when scrolling?
Any help would be appreciated as I'm not all that knowledgeable on android's ui structure.

volume color is controled by the progress_horizontal.xml in the framework-res/drawable folder. there are 9 instances where I find the 08 00 00 1C hex string. The volume bar is divided into 3 sesctions from top to bottom. you need to change them to hex colors
also for market downloads
DownloadProvider.apk/res/layout/status_bar_ongoing_event_progress_bar.xml
You will need to learn how to do hex edits
That seems far more complicated than it needs to be.

Change color of Button Text & General theming Questions

Does anyone know how to change the color of the text on buttons? Ive been messing around with my phone a lot and have somehow changed the color to white and now I cant see the text on buttons. I'm running kaos froyo but all of the framework-res has been replaced. I have tried colorchanger.jar but it doesn't control these colors and I cant seem to find what file it is?
I have found a great looking theme that has all it's graphics in the drawable-hdmi folder. The only thing I need to do to use them is resize them to same size as the corresponding file for our phone, correct? Basically spinner_black.png has to be the same dimensions as the original.
Also I want to take the spinner, wait, icon out of the NFL mobile app and use it in my theme. I have been reading a lot and trying to figure this out on my own. I am now able to read all xml files in plain readable English and am able to convert it back to binary. I still don't know what all the java means but I'm trying to learn that now. Does anyone know any easy way to find what I'm looking for or should I just wait and figure it out with the knowledge of more java.
For those who are interested the resources.arsc file found in framework-res.apk is where the control of the color of buttons is located. I dont know how to decompile it into readable form yet but that is what controls colors and size of images for some things. Colors for the notification bar is held is services.jar so at least Im making some headway. I will keep posting small things I find here to help anyone wanting to make there own themes.
P.S. My **** is starting to look really sweet
Did you figure it out?

Replacing turquoise with green?

I would like to replace the turquoise colour of active checkboxes with something else, like green. I find it hard to distinguish enabled from disabled checkboxes because it looks almost identical to me. The green coloured checkboxes that are used on most other Android devices is much easier to recognize, at least for me.
I assume that this is something that must be changed in framework-res.apk. Is this as easy as editing one byte in that file, and if yes, which one?
I know that there is a theme that has green checkboxes, but it's not for stock ROM, and for now I would like to stick on stock ROM.
Any help would be highly appretiated.

They're .png images in framework-res.apk. Swap them out to your heart's content, backup first and be careful.

I don't know if this is how it is on the phone but in your picture the 'black' has a green square next to it. Also, does this overwrite the current accent colors? What I mean is, if I already have xboxmods SP1 installed will I now have like 3 different 'green' accents listed? If yes to the multiple 'green' accents, could this be fixed? If no, fantastic!
EDIT: One other thing. Would it be possible to have the names listed with spaces? For example at the top you have 'darker blue' (good) but lower down you have things like 'mediumblue' and 'oldlace' (bad grammar) and so on. It would just look better/more professional.

Use your registry editor to do whatever you like!
This is the same List Box Selection listed in Microsoft Programming manual for Windows Phone 7 for making a Silverlight application with exception of adding
nokia blue, darker blue, darkest blue & navy seal blue.
I added those in myself.
They are simply 6 digit html color codes along with an added alpha channel
Every color needed 3 lines of code in the registry properly named and numbered
We did it buy the book so this is as professional as possible! If you want to rewrite the book or the registry or make a nice video tutorial for someone to learn something buy all means be my gest.
If you want to take your phone to lows or home depot & mach up color names please to so!
Everything has now been hardcoded in to the registry. The colors where actually already there but the registry values had not been written yet! Microsoft gave us 10 colors & allowed careers to add 3 of their likening for business purposes the problem is with both Windows mobile 6.5 & Windows phone 7 is that Microsoft gave us the bare minimum of what we actually needed without customization options.
Which is the #1 reason why wp7 is not more popular than android.
They just wanted to make something that worked well & be light in size.
When Microsoft make something thay don’t make it to look good. They make it to work good. Because if it works good then it will look good! ;~) So now it works & looks good! You have 154 new colors in your system that take up almost no space. I whooping 33.34kb is next to nothing! & on top of that you can now customize your phone in the blink of an eye!
Keep in mind that some of the colors don’t mix well with the dark & light background!
For instance if your using darkest blue on a black background you have trouble reading the darkest blue text! & other visual problems will occur with the mix of serein colors.
As you can see a lot of medium & light colors have been implemented because most use a dark background however we could possibly make more darker & darkest colors!
The darker your tiles the less battery drainage!
I note there are 2 blues 2 to greens but they different shades.
In time more colors will eventually be added!
The 10 default colors are not named correctly but more or less just simple easy to see colors.
You can simply remove or rename any accent color you like.
I had to do a lot to get you guys here and I had also a lot of help to bring you this
However I don’t exactly feel like typing up 50 names of thanks so I will just say thanks to everyone! I just cranked out lines & lines of code on top of a lot of other work I’m doing this was just a side project please don’t say its not profesonal it’s a gift. Unwrap it!
I also converted to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Lang) But nvm enjoy!
also feal free to make 100.000.000 more! & share hear!
Works great !!! very good job , now plenty themes to choose from !!! nice work.
I can confirm that to..works great!sooo many colors

Yes there is,
Black 000000 displays as what ever color you have set to your theme to at the time of picking it.
If you pick black it will work just fine with the exeption of you not being able to read black text on a black background.

Nice colors! Thanks, but I have duplicates how can I remove them easily?
Is there a remove cab so I can delete all existing colors before re-applying?
Why doesn't your Colors cab just overwrite the ones already there?
I already use a program called Advanced Config. It lets you make your own colors on the phone, rename them and much more.
Mod Edit: Attachments removed per OP request. ~TRM
Well, for those of us that prefer not to have duplicate colors listed in an already very large list, I have edited the color rgu in the CAB and attached it to this post in a zip. All it needs is to be re-added to the cab and resigned, something xboxmod would have to do. I also fixed the theme names so that there are spaces in-between the words in the name. For example 'AliceBlue' is now 'Alice Blue' as this offers a much more professional and polished look for the end user.
EDIT 1: I'll ask xboxmod if he can build the cab again for us. If he does I'll post it here. I don't want to take any credit for this as it is a good idea that wasn't mine, I just want a better end result.
EDIT 2: xboxmod was nice enough to rebuild the cab but I noticed some errors I overlooked so I will be fixing those and then pestering xboxmod again.
EDIT 3: Ok, so I have edited jackrabbit's cab so that it should have no duplicates (this is assuming 7720+SP1 or higher) and have the names with proper spacing. Enjoy!
jackrabbit72380,
I would like to say THANK YOU for your gift!

Thare is a bug in the Accsent colors made with Advanced config.
The program uses old version of "xxxx_ThemeResources.xaml" & "xxxx_System.Windows.xaml".
There is some applications that wont display text corectly.
Also thare are not duplicate colors In COLORS.cab If you have duplicate colors then you can simply remove them with a registry editer as I stated in my second post.
We dont want an advanced config! Insted we have advanced system menu with all tweeks cooked in. witch is what we try & do.
just navigate to...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/Themes/0/Accents & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/Themes/1/Accents & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/Themes/AccentsDisplayName
Then remove the values you like.
In all 3 directorys for each accsent!
Honistly you should not even have to do this.

dont think thats true, the back light is always on and is consistant across the screen, the display panel then has several layers of filters, electrodes and other molecules which light passes through, to display darker colours the display needs to block more light coming through, which in a tiny way, will use more energy. If you want to use less energy you need to block less light, ie have a white background and have a primary (light) colour
Yes, Geek alert!
i doubt its even measurable on our devices so i wouldnt worry but for hardcore energy savers, light is the way to go with colours, dark is the way to go with backlight (thats the biggest energy blackhole we have)

Thanks, but can you also ask xbmod to give us a remove cab with it. Honestly, every cab should be removable in case users have problems.
A few issues I'd like to mention:
I set one of the new colors yesterday, and this morning I noticed my phone was very sluggish. I switched back to one of the original colours, and my phone was immediately back to normal speed. This cab was the only thing I changed on my phone yesterday, so I think there could be an issue somewhere.
Also, the new colours don't take effect inside 3rd party apps like Whatsapp. I don't mean the tile, I mean inside the program (e.g. A-Z in contacts) where the new colours always show up as the default blue.

MIUI V4 Source Theme Values XML - V4 Dark Themes

In an attempt to push forward and encourage Themers from far and wide to develop MIUI Themes for V4.0 MIUI, I have provided the basic XMLS which are used in MIUI V4 Black Android. These are pretty much stripped and defaulted to two tone colours which would be very easy for users to follow, edit and create MIUI V4 Themes, as I class these theme_values as the starting point and base for Dark MIUI V4 Themes.
Over the past few weeks MIUI Android and Xiaomi have been working tightly to address various MIUI V4 Theme issues, there are few minor issues outstanding but most importantly the main Bugs are just about obsolete.
Thanks to the close communication between MIUI Android Team and Xiaomi Team.
Any questions please head over to HERE

Your welcome.
I have a question you may be able to help me with since you know about the theme structures. I swapped some status bar files from a gb theme I like to V4 for my phone(GNex) and the phone signal icons and data icons are kinda on top of each other.
Is there somewhere in the xml files maybe that determines the placement of those since on ics the data icon is right up on the phone signal.
Thanks if you can help me

Hi,
This is not XML related, so your in luck.
What you need to do is compare the GB Pngs against the ICS Pngs from both miuisystemui > drawable-hdpi folders.
You will see some slight differences in dimensions of the pngs, so you may have to adjust the image or canvas size to get it to look just right. Also you could look at the image itsefl and reposition it slightly.
Also, check that the filenames are correct. ICS has slight different filenames compared to GB.
Regards
Thanks a lot man. I will check sizes and all that stuff
I'm new to this theming thing so bear with me, but if I wanted to change the color of the text that appears on status bar notifications which value(s) would I have to edit. Because everytime I mix and match themes I always end up with black text on a black backgroud or vice versa

This is the one thing that's driving me nuts about MIUI v4. In previous versions the statusbar icons displayed according to the image dimensions. Now it resizes the icons in seemingly random ways. Icons on the left are shown at 27x27, some on the right are at 38x38, and others seem to be displaying at 35x35. I want the old behaviour back, i.e 25.0dip across the board.
Well, thanks for the xmls, helped me solve an issue.
Hey,
Just wanted to say a BIG thanx for all the hard work! Loving your Black Android theme...
I've started it as my base... and I'm running into two font color problems I was hoping you could help me out with...
When downloading anything... the font is black in the drop down...
And second, the font is black with pop-up notifications...
If you could let me know which values these are... I would greatly appreciate it!

That's what it was. They were 38x38 centered so I took them to 25x25 and moved them to the upper left corner and now they are on the upper side of my signal bars. Thank you

Best option is to grab the xmls from BAT (black Android theme) as its mainly two tone colors for ease. Im not sure if your referring to the status bar of the notification bar. There are xmls in the miuisystemui that might be what you are looking for.

Again same applies to what i mentioned to the above user. Grab the xmls from BAT as a start - thing with MIUI V4 is that there is ALOT of interweaving with colors - you change one part and it affects 3 other things which may mean change pngs, which might not appeal.
The pop up notifications you refer too, im unsure - but if you mean the tiny box at the bottom of the screen then that image can be edited - look for Toast.png in framework and miui framework, hdpi and xhdpi folders.

Yes but BAT 1089 build is also released with images, play ard with it so you build up some knowledge on what affects what and same applies to the theme value.xmls

ok note :
Samsung Galaxy S II users, there is a known issue for this device, when applying themes - does not apply correctly or permanently. I have mentioned this to the Xiaomi Theme Team and they are working on it.
Seems to affect Samsung devices so they are gonna check out the rest.
Im on the case dont worry.
Question... Everytime I edit the description.xml file... My theme stops working... It isn't recognized in the theme app... Or only part of the theme works... Suggestions?

have a look at the description file in black android.
make sure your not changing the uiversion or post your description here so i can take a look.
Pele, can you confirm something for me regarding themes not being applied properly in ICS...
On my SGS...
1. Fonts don't apply
2. Certain theme_values.xml's don't seem to be applied. In my experience this is the case with MMS and Contacts... e.g. changing font colours or margins doesn't make a difference. This problem may affect other apk's too.
3. Any change to status_bar_icon_size in fw-res and systemui doesn't make a difference. The values appear to be unchangeable.
4. The secondary text colour in the notification pulldown can't be changed. Having investigated the various xmls, it appears to be hard-coded to a light orange colour.
I was wondering if you can confirm whether these issues also affect the SGS2, and whether some or all of these are Samsung-specific problems.
MIUIv4 still has a long way to go imo before it's as theme-friendly as GB.

Hi Jumba,
ok
1. Currently discussing this with Xiaomi and finding ways and solutions around this ( GB and ICS have different Font systems )
2. Could you explain a bit more in detail on this, afaik MMS is fully editable
3. You should be able to change these but give me an example and if you are working with HDPI/XHDPI or both.
4. discussing this at the moment - though making good progress with some findings - hoping to have a automated way around this, at the moment its a manual method.
Yes Samsung devices and now possibly others are affected, though we have a solution, just seeing if it can be automated.
My aim is to get V4 Theme-Dev 110% editable - every visual UI editable.

the preview pngs erm.... i dont know the V4 names off by heart but if you download a chinese V4 theme it should have the correct names for each preview image. also make sure your previews are in reasonable size e.g. 400x800 or xhdpi size.
