In an attempt to push forward and encourage Themers from far and wide to develop MIUI Themes for V4.0 MIUI, I have provided the basic XMLS which are used in MIUI V4 Black Android. These are pretty much stripped and defaulted to two tone colours which would be very easy for users to follow, edit and create MIUI V4 Themes, as I class these theme_values as the starting point and base for Dark MIUI V4 Themes.
Over the past few weeks MIUI Android and Xiaomi have been working tightly to address various MIUI V4 Theme issues, there are few minor issues outstanding but most importantly the main Bugs are just about obsolete.
Thanks to the close communication between MIUI Android Team and Xiaomi Team.
Any questions please head over to HERE

Your welcome.
I have a question you may be able to help me with since you know about the theme structures. I swapped some status bar files from a gb theme I like to V4 for my phone(GNex) and the phone signal icons and data icons are kinda on top of each other.
Is there somewhere in the xml files maybe that determines the placement of those since on ics the data icon is right up on the phone signal.
Thanks if you can help me

Hi,
This is not XML related, so your in luck.
What you need to do is compare the GB Pngs against the ICS Pngs from both miuisystemui > drawable-hdpi folders.
You will see some slight differences in dimensions of the pngs, so you may have to adjust the image or canvas size to get it to look just right. Also you could look at the image itsefl and reposition it slightly.
Also, check that the filenames are correct. ICS has slight different filenames compared to GB.
Regards
Thanks a lot man. I will check sizes and all that stuff
I'm new to this theming thing so bear with me, but if I wanted to change the color of the text that appears on status bar notifications which value(s) would I have to edit. Because everytime I mix and match themes I always end up with black text on a black backgroud or vice versa

This is the one thing that's driving me nuts about MIUI v4. In previous versions the statusbar icons displayed according to the image dimensions. Now it resizes the icons in seemingly random ways. Icons on the left are shown at 27x27, some on the right are at 38x38, and others seem to be displaying at 35x35. I want the old behaviour back, i.e 25.0dip across the board.
Well, thanks for the xmls, helped me solve an issue.
Hey,
Just wanted to say a BIG thanx for all the hard work! Loving your Black Android theme...
I've started it as my base... and I'm running into two font color problems I was hoping you could help me out with...
When downloading anything... the font is black in the drop down...
And second, the font is black with pop-up notifications...
If you could let me know which values these are... I would greatly appreciate it!

That's what it was. They were 38x38 centered so I took them to 25x25 and moved them to the upper left corner and now they are on the upper side of my signal bars. Thank you

Let me get this straight....
The files are basically a theme minus all associated images?
I am not a themed but I would love to learn so I can help get more themes usable on v4. I'm able to get the docks and status bars I want to work but that's about all I have messed with.

Best option is to grab the xmls from BAT (black Android theme) as its mainly two tone colors for ease. Im not sure if your referring to the status bar of the notification bar. There are xmls in the miuisystemui that might be what you are looking for.

Again same applies to what i mentioned to the above user. Grab the xmls from BAT as a start - thing with MIUI V4 is that there is ALOT of interweaving with colors - you change one part and it affects 3 other things which may mean change pngs, which might not appeal.
The pop up notifications you refer too, im unsure - but if you mean the tiny box at the bottom of the screen then that image can be edited - look for Toast.png in framework and miui framework, hdpi and xhdpi folders.

Yes but BAT 1089 build is also released with images, play ard with it so you build up some knowledge on what affects what and same applies to the theme value.xmls

ok note :
Samsung Galaxy S II users, there is a known issue for this device, when applying themes - does not apply correctly or permanently. I have mentioned this to the Xiaomi Theme Team and they are working on it.
Seems to affect Samsung devices so they are gonna check out the rest.
Im on the case dont worry.
Question... Everytime I edit the description.xml file... My theme stops working... It isn't recognized in the theme app... Or only part of the theme works... Suggestions?

have a look at the description file in black android.
make sure your not changing the uiversion or post your description here so i can take a look.
Pele, can you confirm something for me regarding themes not being applied properly in ICS...
On my SGS...
1. Fonts don't apply
2. Certain theme_values.xml's don't seem to be applied. In my experience this is the case with MMS and Contacts... e.g. changing font colours or margins doesn't make a difference. This problem may affect other apk's too.
3. Any change to status_bar_icon_size in fw-res and systemui doesn't make a difference. The values appear to be unchangeable.
4. The secondary text colour in the notification pulldown can't be changed. Having investigated the various xmls, it appears to be hard-coded to a light orange colour.
I was wondering if you can confirm whether these issues also affect the SGS2, and whether some or all of these are Samsung-specific problems.
MIUIv4 still has a long way to go imo before it's as theme-friendly as GB.

Hi Jumba,
ok
1. Currently discussing this with Xiaomi and finding ways and solutions around this ( GB and ICS have different Font systems )
2. Could you explain a bit more in detail on this, afaik MMS is fully editable
3. You should be able to change these but give me an example and if you are working with HDPI/XHDPI or both.
4. discussing this at the moment - though making good progress with some findings - hoping to have a automated way around this, at the moment its a manual method.
Yes Samsung devices and now possibly others are affected, though we have a solution, just seeing if it can be automated.
My aim is to get V4 Theme-Dev 110% editable - every visual UI editable.

the preview pngs erm.... i dont know the V4 names off by heart but if you download a chinese V4 theme it should have the correct names for each preview image. also make sure your previews are in reasonable size e.g. 400x800 or xhdpi size.

Hello everyone, I am hoping some more developers will try to help out and keep this project alive. Hoping these issues might be figured out by someone.
Issues:
3G and 1X dormant icons are default HTC as well as USB
White clock text
Clear button is dark with black text
Some things worth noting. The stat_sys_data_usb.png icon and the stat_notify_sync_error.png icon are already in /system/framework/framework-res.apk but the weird problem is for some reason these icons are not showing up correctly, and instead they default to HTC. Other icons in framework-res and com.htc.resources are not doing this.

There is a TON of info on editing task bars and other theme elements in the cdma hero section mater of fact a good deal of their stuff works with various eris roms. Some of the roms running over there are legend or eris based now we have ports based off the Sprint roms so theyre themes and various add ons working also (ive tried a few) as far as text and icons I believe it has to do with the .9pngs etc...give it a read and there are a ton of helpful heroc fellas. chubz, vince just to name a few.
Yeah I've been waiting for someone to come up with a fix for the clock font color, but it seems to be fairly difficult to find? Or perhaps other things are being worked on by the limited amount of devs we've got on the Eris.
you forgot me the guy who was trying to finish it, and posted it for all!:d

I'm a super noob at this, but I spent part of the day yesterday trying to fix my title bar with the icons I wanted in the Aloysis ROM. It seemed like the text color and icon image files were referenced by xml files? Have you tried looking there for fixes to your issues?
For the record there is a hero theme the Aloysis 4.1 ROM is based off of which may be configured close to what u want. I wanted to configure mine to look more like yours but I got frustrated and gave up.

Yes, you could do any color.
Also, I've made quite the progress, this is where I am now. All I have left is the "Clear" button.

Many of the default Android menus are white text on a black background. Not only do I find these visually unappealing, they are actually counter productive given how poorly dark themes read in sunlight.
Can these be changed to black text on a white background (or light background) instead? Does anyone have a theme they can share to accomplish this? Thank you.
OK, I guess this is not possible. It's a shame because I find Android's list based menus awfully plain and unaesthetic. White text on a black background with little visual art...it really looks like a plain vanilla terminal of yesteryear. While I love Android's openness, customization, and tweaker-friendly platform, it really needs a major overhaul in terms of looks and user friendliness. In short, the GUI needs some polish and consistency.
It would appear that Android has built-in "themes" for apps to use. If none is specified, then the dark or black theme is used. I wonder if there is a way to force apps to use the "light" theme even if specified otherwise. Perhaps a custom ROM could be created to always use the light theme.

Recently this has been bugging me as well. I wish there was a very simple way to perhaps tweak the framework and systemui so that black on white can become a reality...
This is totally feasible. You would have to do a bunch of XML edits in your framework-res.apk and declare everything correctly.

AWESOME. There are some issues though, such as black text on dark backgrounds in the music app, which I'm guessing would take more than some xml editing to fix. But other than that it's GREAT!

I don't see that theme anymore in your signature. Would it be possible for you to share it? I'm still in search of a way to get Android to be a bit lighter (outside of going with MIUI), which I find far more visually appealing.
Hi all,
I'm really not a fan of the stock Tron-Like status bar and am thinking about changing it. I have looked into it and can prob figure out how to do everything bar the clock. Would it be possible for someone to walk me through this, or even better provide a CWM flashable zip to change from Stock Xoom to Stock Galaxy Tab?
I'm currently running stock UK 3.1 as i haven't seen a need to Root up until now. I would prefer to stay on the UK 3.1 also, as although i have tried Hammerhead and Morray, i dislike the soundset for the lock-screen and keyboard. (mainly the KB is far too quiet!)

Hi Everyone,
I've been modding my install of Moray for the last couple days - changing images and backgrounds, trying to remove as much of the blue blur as I can. I've used some images from a tab 10.1 rom I downloaded. I've been pretty successful at this so far.
I've also changed the stock clock, but once I replace the font files, the clock on the lockscreen has a lot of extra space between it and the date, as well a very little bit of the left side is cut off. Any suggestions as to how this can be solved?
Snapshots are below of before & after.

I noticed the font not quite fitting on the lock screen too, so for now i've gone back to stock font for that.
I've used the Galaxy Tab icons and given them the same colour as the Wifi and Battery icons, then used the DroidSans font for the clock and used the same colour there too.
Here is a screen, its simple but far preferable.

How did you change the status bar font, and leave the lockscreen font as stock? Which of the three stock files did you modify?
Also, how did you change the colour of the clock in the status bar? I assumed this was possible with xml files, buti haven't adventured into this area yet.

The status bar clock colour can be changed in SystemUI.apk/res/layout-xlarge/status-bar-notification-area.xml, under the entry "holoclock"
I changed only the AndroidClock-Solid.ttf for the font, the other 2 fonts combine to make the lock screen and notification pop-up font.
All is explained really well on the XML editing here on method 2 in post 3.
Hope This Helps

Hi! It's time for the first release of my ICS theme. It is the most advanced theming I've done yet and contains some bugs. My plan is to theme as much as possible to get the ICS feeling
Install instructions.
1: Download zip and place in the root of your SD card
2: boot into recovery
3: wipe cache and dalvik cache
4: flash zip
5: reboot
To do:
- Fix bugs
- Theme settings
- Theme lockscreen
- And probably way more.
Know bugs:
- Popup when you press menu button is unreadable Fixed
- The icon background in pulldownbar is too dark. Fixed... sort of Use 160 dpi, not 140
- And probably more...
Changelog:
30.10.11
Initial release
31.10.11
Small bugfixes (new icons for vibrate, silent state, alarm and no sim)
1.11.11 (nice date )

2.11.11
Added activity title bar
3.11.11
Changed button and options menu text to white, now everything should be readable

Ok, i can try (note: TRY) to make a version for 140 dpi. Lol never done this before. Or is there someone here with photoshop experience who could've done it for me? What I need to do is to make a png larger, then crop it back to the same size. That way the stripes in the png will be larger... It is the background behind the icons in pulldown bar.... and it works in 140 dpi, it's just that it looks way better in 160 in my opinion...
Theme updated, added activity_title_bar and some tiny fixes
And for @Lirasina, here you can compare 140 and 160
Edit: oh and I've fixed the unreadable text issue partly :-D and I think I've figured out the rest, hopefully it will be bugfree tomorrow :-D
Edit2: Yeah, it works everything should be readable now Now onto the settings
Any chance this theme can be made for CM7 ROM?
sonnysekhon made one for CM7 but only for HDPI devices which our Hero is unfortunately not.

Check out acheps theme link in the thanks section in op
sent with love from me to you
I got back to VE6.2 just because of this theme. I was using Achep's theme on a GB rom mostly because of the cool ICS look but the lightness of VE with ICS make me turn back
I added a couple of changes on the framework to make the lockscreen look more like ICS, It's just the lockscreen and the icons when you get calls. Here is a zip with the files i pushed into the framework and the customized theme ready to flash, just if someone likes it or you decide to add it to the full theme
Cool, I just found i can't upload nor post links to anywhere, i send you a PM. Anyways here is a screen:
Cool2, i can't post any screens either
By the way, there is a way you can add the old Eclair icons for USB-plug, gmail notifications and so on to be like ICS? that would make the port perfect
And one more thing and I stop biching XD, the blue color of the clock seems to be too bright, it will be more like ICS to have it a little darker.
That's all thanks
Cool! The statusbar icons will be fixed ;-) but the clock isn't part of the theme. Download from market, named ics clock or something
I haven't tested your build, and I don't have till after the weekend. I'm getting up 6 am tomorrow to reach a train. I'm going to Oslo for the cupfinal with my football theme ;-) I won't get home before 7 am at Monday, and then It's strait to school lol :-D
Anyway, here's 7tostas build. I haven't tested it, read his description above ;-) will probably include it in next release, spares me some work

A few improvements
Hi Gloxksss,
I appreciate your work very much. I consider your ICS theme to be one of the best for LG Optimus Black. However I would have a few suggestions for improvements:
- Some nicer icons in a notification bar - BT icon looks fuzzy, alarm icon should be gray instead of blue because it is now distinctive too much. I would use the same icon set like in ICS port theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463089).
- Transparent menu (triggered by Menu button) looks ugly in my opinion. I suggest to make it simply black like in a standard Android Gingerbread without modified icons.
- Conversation bubbles in Messages app are ugly too. Please either leave the original look or try to use a similar layout like this: http://fs02.androidpit.info/ass/x67/4620167-1325865472193.jpg
Thanks for your great work!
PJ
Due to your question concerning changes I would like put you attention for 3 issues.
Conversation bubbles in mms.apk supposed to be in two different colors I mean sender white and recipient let say gray or blue. You know what I mean?
That transparent menu should be solid black one for sure.
And the last one. What do you think to modified contacts.apk to get full screen caller 480/480 or ever better 480/800 with nice ICS theme?
