I'm try to install Guerilla Bob, Dj Rivals and Samurai 2 via PC downloads
so i tried to install, then it wont.. so i tried to push it in system\app and then set the permission and reboot.. it just gave me an error.. so i open the root explorer again and go to system\app path and open these apps and i hit install..
it all works, i have no issues about samurai 2, but the 2 remaining app run only if i reinstall again via root explorer, so meaning when i reboot the guerilla bob and dj rivals goes back to that error..
is there a way to fix these? thanks
Well, the first step you chose to install them is wrong... you do not install 3rd part apps by push them to /system/app... this does not necessarily inflate them and install them.
Uninstall the apps/games and delete the files you pushed to /system/app
Copy the apps/games to the SD card and install them by tapping on the files using a file manager... or use adb to install them...

This sounds like the issue I'm experiencing trying to install the tapntap keyboard on CM7 and CM7 based builds. I tried copying the apk and libs via root explorer and changing their permissions but it resulted in the keyboard force closing. Should've went with my gut and used adb, going to try that next.

Found this cool trick out today so wanted to share with all. Ok go into market and download the file manager Astro. Open up astro, hit menu, application manager, check all apps installed and hit backup. When your finished mount sd card then look for backups folder. Open it up and inside are all the .apk files for everything you have on your phone. You can now get apk's for almost anything as long as you install it and run the above steps.
...and as long as it's not Pac-Man....or the paid apps, when they start coming out.
Haha yeah i figured you already knew about this. I'm trying every app and game i can to see what wont work. Now i can scratch pacman off my try out list.

Astro can't backup pacman because its a .zip file and not a .apk, if you have JF's rc30 you can still get by busybox coping it to your sdcard, its in /data/app. As for pay apps they are probably encypted
We've been through this. I was joking with 555 up there
Noob here,
how can you locate or transfer a apk files? where are they exactly saved?
using a Huawei u8860 phone.
Thanks
Is there any way to re-load the default Samsung Captivate calendar app without starting from scratch? I deleted it thinking that I wouldn't really need it (stupid)and now I realize most calendar apps look for it. If not, is there an independent calendar app that could replace it?
Thanks a lot.

Are you on stock or a custom rom? If it's the latter I would just download the zip again, extract the calender apk and place it in the correct folder (using root explorer or whatever) and apply permissions again, and reboot.

Every time I try to install the apk it tells me that it could not be installed. I tried downloading it from a few different sources and I get the same result every time. I put it into the system folder and try to instal it from there. I've gotten rid of all the other calendar files. No clue why I can't install the new one. I'm rooted and have permissions to side-load apps. any advice?

Because you don't need to install it. Put the apk in the system folder, make sure it has the correct file permissions and then reboot. Done!
Okay. Well, it's now in the System folder as far as I can tell. I rebooted andthe Calendar is still not installed. What I'm not sure about is the permissions. What are the "correct permissions"? as in, what should they be set to and how would I chane them if I needed to?
Anyone? This has been driving me crazy for like two weeks now.
Still no dice...
Okay, I'm taking a crack at bumping this again. Honestly, I have no idea why this isn't working. I see the apk and odex files listed under my /system folder.
When I check Titanium Backup I see the following files:
com.android.calendar
com.android.providers.calendar
They're both crossed out.
Why won't they install? What am I doing wrong?

I think these apps should be under "/system/app" and not "/system" folder.
Yeah, I also have them under /system/app but still no luck. This is really driving me nuts. They're there. For all intents and purposes the phone SHOULD recognize them and install them... but it doesn't. Weird. I honestly don't know what I should do except forget it.
I did Google and searched in this forum
Once i have rooted my device i wanted delete some stuff rename some stuff and intall some new apk's. I chose ADB and my device does get listed when i search using ADB devices and i granted SU(Super user) permissions. and I can isntall 3rd party apps without any issues.
i was try to push the nosecurity.email.apk to my phone when ever I tried to mount or delete overwrite or push a file i get permission denied or read only file or some kinda message which means that i can do what I'm trying to do.
3. now i want to replace my existing email.apk with the provided here
I was able to rename existing apk using Super Manger but i have to install the modified email.apk using ADB and now i'm stuck. I cant figure out how to install this apk using ADB or any other way.
i get SU permissions using Super manager and i have some root required tools like Busty Box Titanium backup........

The way that I switch out keyboards (smart keyboard or swype which are system apps) is to use root explorer (paid app) and drop the .apk into the system/app folder after mounting it as read/write.
It may take a reboot for them to take effect.
There are other file system apps that will get you into the root directory that are free.

Try this: Reboot to recovery, make sure your /system is mounted, and then plug in your usb.
After you've done that, in adb, type "adb root", and then try doing what you need to do.
Could try using Droid explorer to push the apk to phone, get root explorer to open files and change permissions. If adb isn't working for you, have you checked your environmental variables path? Something like c:/android-sdk/platform-tools etc. Also remember USB debugging enable. Remember when asking your phone for root priviledges to type in SU

Hi Everyone,
Looking for help for an issue, I installed the new android market and was messing around with Titanium Backup (forgot to backup the app, dumb me!) anyway I tried to uninstall the new market to go back to the old one but when I did this the market app is gone from the manage apps area. My phone is a N1, running 2.3.4 and rooted, this what I have tried:
- Install the old market manually from a downloaded vending.apk, not working crashes to .com.android.vending every time
- After this I went to look in the /system/app folder for vending.apk and the app is not there, neither I am unable to copy the app using Droid Explorer or Root explorer, it says it is coping the app but is not there
- Re-install gingerbread update again to see if it gets the app back, did not work, still not in system/app folder
Does anyone know why I am unable to copy the vending.apk to the system/app folder? the phone is rooted but still can-t
Thanks!
If you're having problems with root permissions, try using ROM Manager to fix permissions. Another possibility could be busybox, so I recommend installing the version with Titanium backup (under the Problems? section of the menu).
Updating the market can be tricky, but I always find wiping data from Google Services Framework and (use app manager) Market (easier to use Titanium), and rebooting helps. Make sure you reboot before trying to use the Market...
I didn-t know about the Fix Permissions feature of ROM manager, I tried it and it work, I can now place the file on the system/app folder.
Thanks a lot!
I figured out the UID issue.
You must have a file browser capable of root permissions or know how to use the terminal
Go to /data/system and look for uiderrors.txt
open it and take note of all the files listed in there.
Go into /data/data/ and remove those folders.
Reinstall the apps that were in conflict and everything should be good
The same fix applies for error -24 from the play store when installing apps. The only difference is that the uiderrors.txt will not have the offending files listed. You will need to know the application package name i.e. com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer

I believe it is being caused by HTC backup restoring app data. You should be able to remove the folder with root explorer as that's what I used.

You can easily remove that folder when ur using TWRP recovery. In advanced menu is a file explorer. After deleting the folder you can install e.g. quadrant again via playstore
