Thanks!

Here's how to get Google to do the work XDA's servers are too retarded to do:
Go to www.google.com, and type in the following on the search bar:
forum.xda-developers.com:[insert search string here]

Or you can use the Search to find that button!

Actually... guilty as charged.
I only bookmark sites that I visit daily. Everything else goes into folders. Sensitive sites (like banking sites and paypal) never gets bookmarked. I google them because there is no way phishing sites can beat three layers of alertness (once when going into google, another time when el Goog searches, last time when I see the site itself).
And since I use Chrome, there's another layer of security.
But yeah, sometimes I google for gmail and facebook, but that only happens on someone else's PC.

@OP
Only use XDA search when you want retarded result.

yelp for android

we finally have yelp for android!
right now its just read only but hopefully we will get all the iphone features after version 1.0
http://officialblog.yelp.com/2009/12/its-time-to-break-out-the-robot-yelp-for-android-is-here.html
I don't really think the majority of us care.
It's not that isn't a great app or anything [well right now it really is a bad app] it's just by the time the iphone and Blackberry devs got there head out of there ass Android developers already published better similar applications.
Yelp is a great way to find a new place to eat, want to impress a date with a nice hotel or searching for a decent spot to throw back a few. There is rating feedback on a restaurant, bar, club or just about anything you can possibly rate. Yelp trying to jump on the Android market is most definitely a GOOD thing.
If they see support from our end I am sure you will see updates and added features in the near future... IM IN!!

I don't know about the rest of the world but I can confirm that there is a uk version on the official webiste look on the top right corner. Try the app, change your location.. if that doesn't work for the uk then just go to your browsers address bar and type "www.yelp.com"
Why the hatred towards the U.S. xda members? We have no control on what these developers do with THEIR apps?

It struck me how many apps I *can't* see.
The Android Dev Challenge winner: "SweetDreams". I can't see it.
Pandora? Nope. (Can't buy music outside the US, either....but I stopped buying music years ago when the stopped treating me like a customer).
Photostitch (paid)? Nope.
...and so on. I can see a lot of the paid apps....but the gaps are annoying.
we've had where for a long time, which has yelp built in...
I thought where took out the yelp reviews? It was the reason I uninstalled it. Anyway, Layar's Yelp layer is pretty good for me.

Yelp has helped me find alot of interesting food places and saved me money avoiding certain ghetto and low-class nightlife locations..

Who loves GOOGLE?

I just realized how much I use google to search for inforomation, it makes me think how annoying it would be without having "google it". So, I want to know anyone else loves Google?
Dont really care much about Google to say I couldn't live without it. I used yahoo or AOL before Google, to me its just another search engine, although its the one I always use first. Does my post make sense? I love Android to death.

Bing Maps completely destroys Google Maps. Can't tell you how often Birds Eye view saves the day. And the new Silverlight version is extremely slick.
Bing search is pretty good but still not as good as Google for computer related queries. I've come to appreciate Bing's homepage, Google has taken simplicity a bit too far with theirs I think.
I view Google and Microsoft similarly. Both have products that I use all the time and others that I don't care for. But at least Google is picking up the ball that MS dropped in competing with Apple.
Bing got cashback
Lets just say that if Google were a man...I would go gay for him.

Do a barrel roll! (questions/commands for Google Now)

Post questions to ask Google now that will bring up cards or talking results, or something cool like the "barrel roll" easter egg..
I'm sure we have all shown off things on our phones at one time or another. Currently I have been showing off Google now to people and looking for questions/commands to add to my collection.
There are the basic "what time is it in X place?" and the same for weather..
You can tell it to define a word and it will.
"Who is the cast of X?"
"Who directed X?"
"What is the running time of X?"
"What is the population of X?"
And of course math problems..
One thing I found on my own that I like to ask it is for medicine, such as "What is a Xanax?", and so on. Very educational.
Another is questions like when/how/where was/did X (famous person) born/died/went to school.
Here's a video of some basics, I'm sure allot of you have already seen it already:
I know the Nexus 7 guide (in Play Store) lists some questions you can ask, but what are other questions you might have stumbled on that it will respond to? All useful replies are appreciated!

First tip is to set your home/work locations using Latitude.
Next you can ask about when your favourite team/s are playing next, or what the score for their match was etc, that will hopefully teach it the team/s that you support.
Set up calendar items/appointments and it will notify you about them.
If you use Chrome on your desktop and stay logged in to Google, Now will learn from whatever you search. I searched for an address on my laptop the other day and within seconds got an alert on the phone telling me long it would take to get there.

Does anyone know if you can teach it to take a particular route to work?
It shows me the traffic on a route I don't use because it would cost me about $15 in tolls to save me about 5 minutes of time.
I have tried to go to navigate, then select my preferred route, but Google Now still uses the other one by default.

The first time it showed me the time to work, it was using toll roads. When I headed to work going the other way, I kept Now open and refreshed it a couple of times during the journey. Now it always shows me that route.
What I think would be good is if you could program a primary and secondary route. Tonight, for example, it was telling me 53 mins to get home because I drive past a football stadium where Monday night footy is on tonight. It would be nice if it said "this way is busy, take the other way instead".

Apparently this is because the season isn't on there. This has some truth in it because I searched for Arizona Cardinals and got nothing in Now but then I searched for Red Sox and now apparently they are my team Though I've tried it with Aussie teams and it doesn't work either, even though we are approaching the pointy end of the season. My guess is that it only understands US sports at the moment. Hopefully that will change soon.
You need to ensure that web history is turned on in your google account (not on by default) for searches to show on your phone.
Follow the android forums link a few posts up for a guide.

You are at WORK. They are paying you to work, not to fu*k around with your phone. I used to have a colleague who played around with his phone at work while the rest of us actually did his job - he didn't last for long.

Did you even bother to actually read to OP and the thread, or did you just read a couple of words and decided to post this pointless answer?
If the OP's company blocks hosting sites, TOR installers etc then I don't think simply trying to use https will acheive anything - do you?
ever try underget.com? I worked for me for a few weeks, until one day I tried it, and was blocked.
I was in a similar situation. I feel if my job is done, I should be able to relax *a little*.
I know employers will never agree, and that we should be helping others who cant finish their jobs, or go clean the office, etc..
You can always upgrade your mobile data plan, and download from your phone/device. Is there a free (unblocked)wifi in the area you could utilize?
happy hacking... I can relate. I used to have a virtual machine running ubuntu, building kernels in my free time.
If you change your OP to: how to get to blocked sites so I can develop Sooper Awesome Kernel and Rom for Device XYZ, I some people would have been more inclined to help...
part of me says, yeah i should be "working", the other half says do what I feel, and I end up usually browsing the web.. and laughing my butt off to the off topic images thread... lol

That only works if the web filter is crap and the website is also running on port 443 which most don't.
OP now I'm with you, I used to work 12 hour shifts in IT at night and weekends, we used the office modem to play online games etc, and also watch DVDs.
You could talk nicely to your IT guys and see if they can make an exception for you.
Use your phone as a USB modem and download via that. If your company has blocked access to certain sites then you're risking getting sacked if you find a way to access them. Respect your company's wishes and stop trying to stumble your way around their security.
