[NIGHTLY][ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for Samsung Vibrant (vibrantmtd) - Vibrant Android Development

We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code.
There are many apps on the Market that will allow you to save and restore your data to a Samsung ROM so you should be able to get back to a working state easily.
Q: How do I go back to a Samsung stock ROM?
A: The easiest way is to go back to stock using Odin and flashing a full stock firmware (including PIT file) with repartition checked. Do a Titanium Backup of your data and save it. Then use Odin to go back to stock. CM7 installs a different file system, therefore you have to use Odin to go back to stock file system. After that you can flash whatever other Samsung based ROM you want to restore your data.
Q: Why is the thread closed?
A: We do not take insults and threats lightly and have no wish to continue interacting with the developers and/or users who would like to keep at it in the threads we started. As the device is no longer supported, and we've disabled futures builds for Vibrant, this thread is now closed.

hey atinm, did you guys get the symlinks issue figured out so that the rmmod commands work?
I ask because if so, then suggesting people get the paid voodoo control app will give people the latest voodoo sound modules regardless of the kernel they use. The problem is, if the symlinks aren't working properly, then it takes a bit of manual configuration in the voodoo paid app to get voodoo sound working properly (i.e. you have to have a kernel with voodoo sound compiled it).
I'll also test the newest build tonight when i get time to see how things are (currently running the 4/21 nightly).

Yes, it has been figured out. We will release a very big update soon that fixes a lot of stuff, including paths.

Do we still need to mute and unmute for incoming call mic to work?

My Input..
You're probably already aware of this, but I found Google Maps no longer has the two-finger stuff available - dragging down to activate 3D views or being able to spin the map to a new direction.

pretty excited about this... been waiting for a while for *TRUE* CM7 to come to the vibrant... cant wait, and thank you

Since you've fixed the symlink problems, you might put in the op about how the paid voodoo control app will give you the latest voodoo sound regardless of the kernel.

Can we get some clarification on the video playback issues? Someone in the other thread said MKV playback (and, I assume, the Vibrant's superior playback overall) was a Touchwiz feature, not driver-related. Any truth to that?

yes i realize that. But the voodoo paid app will load voodoo sound using the app and isn't kernel related anymore. And i figured since you linked to an unsupported custom kernel containing voodoo sound and color, that posting something about how the paid app gets you voodoo sound on the stock cm7 vibrant might be acceptable as well to let people know their options.

The Q&A mentions the video player (the app, I assumed) being tied to Samsung's frameworks, that's why I thought it was a driver issue when it came to getting video playback working under CM7's player. Looks like i'll be sticking with Samsung ROM hacks
Thanks for the clarification, and keep up the great work, CM team.

Custom Rom Options?

Hey everyone. I'm posting here because I have a friend with a Captivate and I'm trying to get him to root his phone.
I sent him the link to the 1 click root but I don't know what rom to have him flash. I have an EVO and in the EVO forums we have a sticky with all the custom roms listed so it's easy to see what's there. Is there anything like that for you guys?
He's basically looking for a stable 2.2 rom.

The Captivate DEV scene isn't too large right now, (most of them are in the Vibrant section) We have few custom roms, but the ones you can find, along with mods can be found in the Development section of Captivate.

This is very true. Most went to vibrant because they were ex-G1 users. However the good news is the most of the coding will be the same so they are relatively easy to port. I have a feeling the captivate will not be getting as much dev action, and most people are switching from windows mobile or iPhone and have no android dev experience. But it will eventually speed up
Don't have him flash a custom ROM just to flash a custom ROM. Right now there are a limited number of ROMs, and he can read up on them in the dev to see if there is anything changes in the newer firmwares that would make it worth his time to flash. AFAIK, there are no fully functional, stable 2.2 ROMs (although the leaked build for the i9000/international version does mostly work, I think). There are also a few leaked updates to the 2.1 firmware.

Yea, that's why I am asking if there are any stable 2.2 roms yet. But as I gather there aren't. I'll just tell him to keep his eyes open here.
I've been using Cognition 2.2b6 for about 4 months now with no problems. Seems to be the most stable rom out there for the captivate.
I've been using Cognition 2.3b3 for several weeks and it's working great, the only issue for me is the android email process crashes on startup, I use the gmail app anyway, so its a non issue for me... It took 3 or 4 days to get the correct order of opperations, it seems not everything you find on XDA works for every Captivate, I guess AT&T keeps disabling settings and crapware crippling the phone... But the order that worked for me was:
STOCK AT&T 2.2 FROYO:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
ROOT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
JI6 KERNEL:
I did not root with the link in this post (was already rooted when I found it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804226
COGNITION:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532
SIDELOAD:
Option two worked for me, option one did not.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738376
Now that I've done all this I could NEVER go back to stock, it's like having a completely different phone... Unbelievable upgrade. F-U AT&T.

[MOD]Voodoo Lag-Fix for JK2 Based Froyo

1st of all.....this is not for Noobs, if u dont know what Voodoo is or even what root is, please click the back button.....
In advance, sorry for the anti-noob attitude LOL.....
The is the Latest Voodoo from the International Galaxy S that works w/ JK2 froyo on the Vibrant. I tested it myself. It works on any Froyo thats based on JK2 which is all of them so dont ask.. Its a file flashable ONLY in Odin. If you have Oclef's 1 click Lagfix already installed, u MUST disable it 1st.... If u try and flash ontop of having voodoo installed and soft brick your phone, its your own fault for not reasarching about voodoo 1st. Theres STRICT directions when dealing w/ voodoo. Theres a forum in here already made discussing Instructions on how to install and uninstall it so use the search tool. Do not ask for the link to the forum or the masses will flame u...
Again any soft bricking you do to your phone is YOUR own fault
Reading is fundemental
Otherwise, enjoy the sexiness of Voodoo for froyo JK2:

yeah just have a disable lagfix file or folder in the sdcard/Voodoo/ directory and install this through ODIN, remove the disable lagfix file or folder and reboot.
hmm OP you should probably mention that volume buttons are reversed
i know you say all versions of jk2, but i'm running jk2 w/ 3e recovery. Will i need to change over from JK2 w/ 3e to JK2 w/ 2e recovery for this to work (as i've read recovery is somewhat tied to the kernel)?
Team Whiskey has released the stock JK2 kernel with Voodoo in their beta section. I'd imagine it will be publicly released sometime in the near future. The key mapping is not messed up since it uses the stock kernel. Patience young grasshoppers...
Hey OP, do you have a link to the original thread? i can't find it when i search...
EDIT: nm...found it. here it is for anyone else interested. https://docs.google.com/document/d/...HVMGpXheGc/edit?pli=1#heading=h.9bkg2u-i2ehea
FYI i read the whole page and it doesnt say anything about JK2. Also i says you have to back up your efs folder and i'm not sure how to restore that...so i would caution everyone to READ everything and be very sure they know what they are doing.

just wanted to check back in and say that i can confirm that this works on JK2. i installed it over Axura 2.0 and its working like a charm. i am by no means an advanced user, i just read and follow directions very well.
For those of you who care about numbers i got a 1533 quad score (sorry i didn't think to test Axura before voodoo so nothing to compare it to). i literally just flashed this thing so we'll see how it holds up in the future. so far though running very smoothly and responsiveness is great.
EDIT: also the volume buttons are reversed and home acts as back. not a huge deal for me.
EDIT2: also internal sd mounts as a CD drive, so you have to use the Media Player option to write to internal sd...which presents sort of a problem disabling it since the home key doesnt act as home. i just unplugged the usb to disable and it seemed fine though.
EDIT3: also this broke CWM for me. i got stuck in recovery and it just kept saying "finding update package" and just sat there. a battery pull didnt work since it just kept booting to recovery with that message. had to ODIN back to stock JK2. i wouldn't mess with this until its vibrant specific IMO.

you can extract the zImage from the CWM flashables, and then use heimdall to flash the kernel.
If you want and ODIN flash, you need to create a tar (not sure of the specifics, you could just copy the stock zImage into the voodoo odin tar and it'll replace the voodoo kernel w/ the stock kernel).
this is just the default i9000 froyo lagfix. the media volume does not make any sound with it, i have tried it before. along with all the other issues users have already posted. it is not suitable or meant for the Vibrant yet.
All it needs is to be ported for the Vibrant...everything else works fine. No colorfix tho
Anyone who has donated to team whiskey check out there forum. I have been running their froyo with ext4 voodoo for a couple of days with absolutely no problems. Not even in recovery. I'm sure it will be released soon assomeone else said earlier.

[Q] A legitimate voodoo question

Ive been searching this forum to no end to get some information on installing voodoo....every page I read has conflicting information. I have the leaked froyo JI6 and cannot find a voodoo lag fix only instruction set....if anyone with this ji6 has installed voodoo can you please tell me how and if its worth it? also whats with this reddening of the screen? Anyway thanks to all xda people this site rocks.
ps. in addition to the leaked froyo ive rooted with the one click super root. Just a beginner but this lag fix sounds like a necessity
You would have to flash a kernel that has voodoo through odin onto you're phone. My suggestion would be to return to stock then pick out a custom 2.2 rom. Several have voodoo as well as many improvements over what you are using

I have never used the ji6 leak so as to the look I do not know for certain
cognition is based on leaked captivate froyo, like what you are on. Many, like the rom I am on are on leaks our official releases from other devices.
Voodoo is vastly beter then ryan za oclf. From what you are saying flash stock then cognition. I believe that would be the closest.

Many thanks and happy new year!
You could just pull the kernel out of the cognition rom and flash that. It will bee the zimage file in the updates folder. Easiest method is using sgs kernel flasher app that neldar created. Then you could keep what you have and enjoy voodoo lagfix as well until you find a rom that you want to try.
Sgs kernel flasher. It is an app in the market that the last poster mentioned. Looks like you can use it to change your kernel and get voodoo. I have not used it yet though
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
See THATS what im talkin about. You guys rock. Once I flash the kernel...which voodoo do i use? Not sure that lagfix only is availabe....have you seen a screen problem with voodoo? One guy said his screen had a red tint and im not really into that kinna stuff. lol
Voodoo uses ext4 file system so not really a choice other than on/off or choosing to use it for /system (yes by default). I have not seen a screen color change using kernels with the "color fix" and I don't think the kernel in cognition even utilizes it, though I could be wrong.

Thanks again

one last question. if hell freezes over and we DO get an official 2.2 pushed to our phones.....the method to disable voodoo is the same for us leaked 2.2 folk correct? making a folder that says disable lagfix ?
If the kernel does not have disable built into recovery, yes disable lagfix folder in voodoo folder on sd card will disable it. Also, if you use Odin to get back to stock it will wipe out the ext4 file system.

Also, it could just be a bad flash. Try flashing over Cog and see if that fixes it.
What do you think the ROM-specific stickies are here for? Please use them and do NOT start a new thread. If no one replied it is probably because no one had an answer or experienced the same thing.

If you go for FF, get a full flash FF 3.0 / speedmod k13e / jk4
It's your best bet for stability
As for the GPS, it's not really a ROM problem but a Samsung problem lol. I personaly use Adam's GPS Fix (you can find it in the theme and apps section I believe).
As for the ROM, it really comes to personal preference. I can't tell you "use this, it's better than this" as they all have their pros and cons but tbh FF is by far my favorite.
All I can suggest is that you give it a try and if you don't like it as much, feel free to revert back or even try other ROMs (beside 2.3 based one as they're all on beta state).
Also if you go for another ROM, know that you do NOT need to flash back to stock before switching. Simply clear your cache/dalvik and flash your new ROM through cwm.

[Q] what is voodoo (sound\color) ?

what is voodoo (sound\color) mean ?????
and if any body have a lesson about the kernals
cuz i don't lnow actuality what it is ?
A kernel is the software on the phone that lets the hardware interact with the operating system (the firmware).
Voodoo Sound/Colour were projects led by Supercurio, a member here at xdadevelopers. He has done an amazing job working with the audio capabilites of the i9000, fixing a lot of it's shortcomings. As well, he has given us the ability to tweak the colour of our screens.
To have either, they need to be supported by your kernel. If you check the thread of the kernel you'd like to use, it should have either of these (or both) listed; if it doesn't, they are not implemented in the kernel, and therefore not supported.
If your kernel has them, download the 'Voodoo Control' app for the Android Market. Optionally, you can probably find a thread for it here, on xda. The app gives you complete control over the options that these features offer.
