[REF/GUIDE][Hero CDMA] problem LINKS, q+a LINKS, helpful LINKS :) - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am opening this thread to provide useful links to other members and noobs. I have bookmarked these threads over the last year or so, and I use them frequently to help people and answer questions.
I have not used all of these apps/fixes/tweaks personally, but some of them I have used. I know some limited info about most of them, and will answer questions in here if I can, but I would encourage others to help as well.
Feel free to use these links as you see fit, be it to help yourself or somebody else. If you have a link to a thread that you think is helpful, please put it up in the thread or PM it to me, and I will likely add it to the OP.

Happy Flashing

YOU forgot one very important link the wiki lol.

The 140 bootloader error is from having the engineering SPL. All you have to do to fix it is flash back to the 1.47 bootloader with a HERCIMG.

@Bierce22 - ok will add hero wiki
@jasonmaloney - I actually helped somebody (who used that fix and it worked) who was not s-off. And honestly flashing that or flashing a different bootloader would be about the same amount of work/time, so, I think it's all good, no?

Awesome!
Not only should this be stickied, but should auto-open for all n00bs .

You couldn't have picked better timing. I'm a total noob to this kinda stuff...well, partial. I'm doing my homework though, learning a lot. That you compiled everything I think I need into one post pretty much just did half my job for me.
Thanks again!

duce,
great job. i stickied this thread, 5-starred this thread, subscribed to this thread, and voted.
Would be great if you could add links to different recoveries.
Another good resource to add is the .29 radio

Added radio link. Recoveries are varied depending on each users opinion, so I'll leave that out. Also theres about 9 or 10 so it would suck to add lol.

sent here by mattcrystal and thanks to this i was sent to the new members thread. kind of more of a test driver for the auto makers but some day i'm hoping to be more than a test driver with a lot of searching like the new member thread said....idk what i would've done w/o this thread.

[TUT] Flashing your First GSM Rhodiuml Rom (For Noobs)

Mskip has made a great guide on how to flash your ROM. It might not be for the Touch Pro2 but it will give you what you need to know on how to flash a ROM.
Mskip ROM Flashign Guide
Maybe this should be a sticky too
I asked mskip if he is making a guide for us or if he is not if I can modify his guide for Touch Pro2 but just follow the instructions in there for now.
Should help the noobs and help avoid "i can only get into bootloader , HELP" threads, good stuff.
I'll write a guide on how to flash OUR phone, don't worry.

mskip is working on it and is almost done...just a heads up.
The only difference between flashing them is that you don't need Raphaelwrapper if using the RUU and that the IMG name is RHODIMG instead of RAPHIMG, right?
Thanks!
Just the comprehensive, all-inclusive guide I needed!! Just got a Vodafone branded TP2 yesterday and HardSPL is just out, couldn't get my timing any better me thinks. Thanks again for pointing out the guide for us clueless newbies.

oh yeah...I have seen it here
touche!!!!
ok yes lets just Flam me because i posted a thread wanting to know something about a particular ROM. I post questions so i don't mess up my phone. I maybe new to the process of hacking devices but it does not mean i am wanting the quick way to it. I am in the process of learning. These are great forums but unfortunately it has people the seem to think it is necessary to judge every post that has a moderate question as a N00b Fail thread instead of being helpful. I seemed to think it perfectly fine to post a thread about this because my other attempts to find out said information did not prosper. I DO read through the threads and learn a few things here and there. Everyone seems to post "use the search feature" Yes i have used it and yes it has worked but other times it does not. For one it searched all threads on this forum not just the Dream section and some of them are out of date.
So my Question in the first post still stands.
Locklocklocklocklocklock tiiiiiiiimmmmmmmeeeeeee
i guess if i a mod finds it proper to lock this thread then so be it i will just spend another few days digging trying to find what version of the hero rom this kid in the video is speaking of.

sorry i am working with half my thought process today. I am in the process of fighting off a nasty cold. I thought i did post this in Q & A (this is what i get for having tons of tabs open). As for the video link there it is in the first post. (god only know what other things i forgot today lol)
JACXHERO1.1
It says so in the video info.
all hero builds require the haykuro spl which REQUIRES the 26I radio.... make sure your flash the radio first
search 1.33.2005 for the spl thread.... be very careful not to brick your phone...
the latest jac hero is in my sig (JacxHeroSki2.1)
That rom is old... and I mean really old. It wasn't very fast in comparison with the more recent ones. Try the one in my link. I think that you'll be speechless if you were impressed by the one in the video.

Its hard to search around the forum to download things..But if you post everyting in one thread, it would prolly avoid a lot of noob questions..

This user has already been directed to that link, and complained it was too long.
To the OP, the directions are clear cut and work. Slapshot did a fantastic job compiling all the steps.
Complaining that they are too long and creating another post to complain some more will get you no where and you're probably better off not rooting your phone until you can understand the instructions.
This was my first root, and although HTC phones are supposed to be harder to root, I accomplished it without a hitch thanks to the instructions so please be patient and take the time to read through all the posts.
If the Superguide is too hard for you, this whole thing isent for you

Honestly, if you're really gonna be this much of a baby about it, switch to a more popular phone, and head over to FreeYourAndroid.com. They have 24/7, and very easy to follow tutorials. Before you even go check for our phone, no its not on there. Hence why I said go grab a more popular phone.
As to how we lay out information here, its because its not for noobs to come and start diving into the world of android modding just like that. There is too much information, too many different (yet individually important) ways to do things, and too many different ROMs and the like coming way too fast to have it all posted in one place. General is for general knowledge things and any questions that don't involve a specific thread. Its a great place for noobs to hangout, learn the ropes, and find basic information. The Android Development forum is there for just that, Android development. So this is where all the ROMs, Mods, Root tricks, and the like go. That is an impossible amount of information to condense into one thread. Not to mention its not fair to the devs who deserve the credit for their hard work. On top of this, ROMs require different ways to be flashed properly. They have different directions, different issues, different fixes. It would be insanely stupid to consolidate information any more then we already have.
So if your gonna whine, then as I stated in the General Knowledge thread:
Don't flash ROMs, unlock your bootloader, ect.:
If you don't know what your doing, don't do it. If you don't want to take the chance, don't do it. If youre just going to whine, don't do it. Its the simplest solution to not making a mistake and staying stable.

XDA isn't for babies, and its not for noobs to start doing things straight out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong though, most of us have no issues showing you noobs the ropes. Although, if youre not going to even try and just gonna sit here whine wanting to be babied we won't care the least bit about you. So in conclusion -
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

No it is not rude at all. Slapshot30 wrote a guide that was created into a sticky which explains how to root, put cwm recovery, flash a rom, etc. If you can't follow simple instructions (searching before posting) then this isn't for you.

People are very willing to help and most on here do but it's frustrating when someone wants something easier when he has already been directed to the post he needs in another thread before starting this one. The guide that Slapshot created is great and very easy to follow. If that guide is too difficult for you, you shouldn't be doing this stuff to your phone.

[FAQ][WIP] Frequently Asked Questions- HTC Incredible S (VIVO)

Frequently Asked Questions
HTC Incredible S
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root my phone? You have two choices.
1. To downgrade and s-off using revolutionary and nonverbose's toolkit. This is harder but s-off makes flashing ROMs and Kernels easier. If you have HBOOT 1.16 or higher you need to downgrade before using revolutionary. See here
[TOOL][SCRIPT]S-off for HBOOT 1.16 and above
OR
2. Unlock using the HTC dev method, which unlocks your bootloader but you remain s-on. You have to flash boot.img via fastboot every time you change your kernel and most ROMs. See here
[Guide] Newb guide to unlocking HBOOT 1.16.0000 and 2.00+ and flashing a custom ROM
Q2: Which custom recovery should I use?The tried and tested recovery that most people use is 4EXT.
Find it here: 4EXT Recovery Classic v2.2.7 RC5 | TAR BACKUPS | Convert FS | Romname -> Backupname
4EXT is officially supported, TWRP and the latest CWM are not official.
Q3: Can I install an OTA on my rooted or bootloader unlocked phone? No. If you want to install an OTA (imo you'd be crazy to ) you must revert to stock EVERYTHING. This includes ROM, recovery, and reverting to a locked bootloader. In my opinion it is best to flash a stock-based custom ROM like Blackout ICS, tpbklake's stock rooted ROMs or Android Revolution HD to save you from the hassle of reverting to stock. It also gives you the flexibility to easily flash a custom ROM
Q4: How do I flash my boot.img in fastboot? On your computer, open the custom ROM zip using an unzip program (WinZip, WinRAR, etc.) and extract the file "boot.img" (no quotes). Place this file in the same folder as fastboot.exe..
See this video: [Tutorial] How to Fastboot Flash boot.img on S-ON HTC Device
And here: [Tutorial] How to flash a new boot.img via Fastboot
Q5: What is the difference between S-off and HTC dev unlock?Basically, s-off gives you access to everything you need as a normal user. To flash a ROM, all you have to do is wipe, flash it in recovery and reboot
With HTC Dev unlock you will remain s-on and have limited access. You cannot flash radios and other files via hboot. When you flash a ROM you must flash it in recovery and then fastboot flash the boot.img (see Q4)
Q6: Do I need to s-off or HTC dev unlock my bootloader to install a custom ROM?Yes
Otherwise you cannot have a custom recovery which you need to flash a custom ROM
Q7: What is HBOOT/bootloader and how do I enter it/what does it do?HBOOT is the white screen that displays all your phone info on it. It will show you your HBOOT version, radio version, whether you are s-off, s-on or have an unlocked bootloader.
Q8: What is ADB?Stands for Android Debugging Bridge.
Read more about it here: [GUIDE] ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone
Q9: What a nandroid backup?A nandroid backup is what is made when you go to recovery and backup. It backs up everything you see in android, including your kernel/boot, system/ROM, all your data, settings etc. If you want to create a "freezeframe" of what your phone is like, create a nandroid backup and it will be able to be restored at any time. Use the same recovery that you backed up with to restore.
Q10: My PC won't connect to the phone by USB (for RUU, fastboot, adb, etc.), what do I do?Make sure you have all the drivers needed for what you are doing.
Q11: What is the best ROM/kernel?You need to make up your mind yourself It is totally an opinion thing. Some don't like the bloat of sense and prefer AOSP ROMs. I like the Sense interface so I mostly use sense ROMs. One way to see popularity is to have a look at everyone's signatures and to see what they are running.
For stability and everyday use its better to go with a non-experimental ROM
Q12: Does rooting the phone affect my battery life, performance or coolness?Alone, rooting the device does next to nothing. After the process of rooting, a rooted stock ROM will be absolutely no different to the stock ROM unrooted. However now you have permissions to write to /system and other partitions that you could not do anything to before.
However by installing a custom ROM it can affect all of the above, including coolness
Q13: How much can I overclock my device without causing damage to it?The general consensus is that 20% more clock speed won't hamper your device. Mine has run at 1200MHz for over a year and it is fine. However over that, there is potential for damage. That said, there are many who use the phone at 1500MHz and they are fine. Just remember that all chips are different, yours might not be able to take the speed some others can get up to. Some cannot take over the 1024MHz stock, but the msm8255 is designed to run at 1400MHz.
Tip: If your device is unstable at high frequencies, try raising the voltages at those frequencies
You also need a custom kernel with OC enabled for you to raise the frequencies.

Haha cause it was a recognized contributor thing and every forum needs one
If you want to contribute to it pm me, you're more than welcome. But its supposed to be minimal with a max of like 15 questions so that its not a big wall of text
And thanks to the mod who stickied it

Official OTA should have it. Custom ROMs based on stock like blackout have it.
Did you go to settings--> security--> screen lock? Face unlock is an option for me in blackout.

About the overclocking, might be worth saying that some chips are unstable at slightest overclock as well...
Especially now when some people have had this phone for 2 years or so, the CPU might not like overclocking at all.

Radios?
What is the significance of Radios?
I unlocked my IncS from HTCDev, its still S-on. I'm using the ROM "[ROM] [Stock] HTC VIVO ICS 4.0.4 Sense 4.1 [En] [Everything works]" though I have to push the boot.img manually every time I flash a new rom, just wanted to know when do one needs to flash radios?

Depending on your area, signal can change from better or worse after flashing a radio. Im pretty sure it also influences GPS location/navigation and it can help increasse battery life
Thanks
