Ok, does anyone know why my nandroids wont restore. I've made two backups of stock 2.1... one thru rom manager, one thru recovery. Neither will restore, they get stuck at splash, I'm s-off so no worries but a bit confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

it might have gotten corrupt in the backup process i know a couple times on my old mytouch aka craptouch it would say could not back up boot or somthing like that in the process check your sd card and make sure there was enough space when you originally did the back up that could be it.
Well, I've got plenty of sdcard space. And Idk how two nandroids could be corrupt ...?

My nandroids of stock roms never boot, well the do but they all bootloop unless I factory wipe, which in effect is defeating the purpose of a nandroid. I always have had to flash a fresh rom and do the whole setup thing.

So this isn't really an answer, but you could always backup a different sense rom. I assume you are making a backup to update PRL/profile right? I couldn't see any other reason lol. If so, just use NFXhero, that's waht I use, it works well and boots fine, albeit slow sense 2.1
Yeah duce that what I wanted it for, just can't get a good nandroid. Tried NFX it bootloops on me. Idk...

Hmm, well I never liked 2.5.0.7 it kept giving me errors. I just backed up and restored LEGIT gingersense and that worked fine, fwiw I would NOT recommend that beast be your PRL backup lol, but it is fun

help?
I successfully rooted and added the CyanogenMod 6.0.0 to my htc hero. It seemed to be working fine, but without any Gapps. I then attempted to add N1gapps and now am in an endless cyanogen screen - stuck. I know I screwed up, I'm new to this stuff, though experienced with computers. I have tried reinstalling, including deleting the N1gapps from my sdcard and redownloading the cyangoenmod 6.0.0 I used the Universal Android app to root and Rom manager.
I don't know what to try next.
Update: I had the good sense to back up before I did the change, so I reverted to the original and reinstalled.. successfully. Now I'm just a little hesitant to jump in and screw something up again. From what I've read, I should get GApps as;
gapps-mdpi-20100917-signed.zip
Is that correct?
Also, having read for the last 4 hours or so, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong spot, and for my lack of such knowledge.
Yea flash that one and you should b good to go & remember always nandroid backup good luck oh and u might wanna take that backup and make a copy and put it on your computer so you'll always have it

success! thanks for the assist. One maybe odd thing.. when I installed ROM manager and tried to reboot, pressing the power/home key didn't work for me, I found pressing the power/volume down key works.
That could b the recovery ur using although I'm not 100% sure but I use RA 1.6 try reflashing your recovery or try RA good luck

Well I would definitely try Clockwork, because from what I understand, it does the best job of wiping. In the worst case scenario, you may just need to get your N1 back to stock and retry from there if you wish.
Would you be able to post up some links? ?....my wife is still pretty pissed lol....

lol, I imagine..
A quick google search got me this as far as stock ROMs go: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...es-zip-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure/
(keep in mind I don't have an N1, so I'm not an expert at it by any means when it comes to ROMs, etc. Speaking of, if you haven't already, you might want to post about this in the N1 forums here on xda. Obviously they'll know about your problem than me.)
Once you have the rock ROM and you're rooted, download ROM Manager from the market to get the Clockwork Recovery.
Does anyone have a backup of 6.893?
Typically I am very diligent, but somehow I forgot to make a backup of stock.
I have not switched to any other update. I have read through everything thoroughly and I apologize for failing to follow instructions. With 5 android devices and multiple flashes I have never missed this before. And I realized it as soon as I flashed TH3ORYS rom
From what I gather the easiest and most effective way to get back on track is to flash a stock 6.893 rom make a backup and move on from there.
I appreciate anyone's help!
I am also open to using this thread or creating one in delopment to post the stock roms of every version.

Not entirely true. His system will be back to 5.5.886, but his kernel/radio will be his previously upgraded 5.6.893. He is off the upgrade path until he gets the matching system file of 5.6.893. Only then can he continue updating. I just went through this exact thing, used the one step recovery, but went back to .886 and had to beg to find someone to send me a CWR back up of their 5.6.893, which got me back on track.
Oh yeah...nevermind. I completely thought you were wanting stock not the ota. That's what I get for speed reading.

I'm afraid I dont, I got back to 5.6.893 then immediately upgraded to 5.7.893 and backed that up, since .6.893 was no good to me any more. I'm sorry.

Wont it fail because I'm not coming from stock? And if I go all the way back it wont work because ill end up with a hybrid?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I'm in the same situation. Yes, all attempts to upgrade fail because our sys filed don't match our radio. I need this nandroid as well.

Giving someone a backup made on your device or restoring a backup made on someone else's device is an extremely foolhardy proposition. You are cloning the Android_id from one device to the other, which means that apps that use it as an identifier will push and pull data from both devices without any intervention from the unknowingly affected user.
system img
correct me if im wrong but, all we need is the system img right because im stuck with a hybrid
Does anyone know if restoring my 5.893 back up will work, or create a hybrid? I ask because I think it is the same radios?

Check your pms and please don't share in case there is some of my data still left in the backup. just download all the files and put them in a folder and put in your clockwork backup folder on your sd/ext, probably the best way is to restore with advanced restore and just restore system only.

I have really been through the ringer today. I started off this morning by noticing that I had no data at all. I was on 6.893 and TH3ORYROM 2.1 and have been for a few days with no trouble until today when I lost data. I tried everything to get it back, but nothing. I called VZW to make sure there wasn't a network problem in my area and they suggested that I try everything that I had already done (bat. pull, sim card re-register, turn off LTE radio, etc). When they couldn't fix anything, they wanted to transfer me to tier 2 tech support, but they apparently need to talk to me on a different phone so they can diagnose this one, but I didn't have access to another phone. So I decided I would try to flash one of the updates hoping it would reflash the radio file and wake it up. When I got home, I used the R3L3AS3DRoot to restore to stock and tried to install 7.893, but the update failed. I searched around and tried every method I could to get any of the updates to install, but nothing worked, still no 3g either. Eventually, in my desperate attempt to fix this myself I decided to wipe everything and start over. I wiped the webtop partition. I think that's what really screwed me up, because nothing else I did was any different that what I've done in the past. After wiping everything, I went back to the R3L3AS3DRoot and tried to run it. No matter which option I selected, it seemed to run fine, but I couldn't boot past the fastboot screen. I tried to fxz using RSD Lite, but every flash I tried failed. Then, in a panic, I came across P3's moto-fastboot method used to "get you back on the update path". I ran that and it freaking worked!! Then I figured I'd try to get up to 7.893, but I've tried absolutely everything I can find mention of and nothing works. Every install fails. I am getting some intermittent 3G now though. And to top it all off, I discovered that none of the nandroid backups I've made will restore and most of them don't even exist. I just discovered that I needed to check "use external storage" for the backups to take. I thought I had been covering my ass by making backups, but they weren't valid. Currently I have stock, rooted phone with an intermittent 3G signal. System Version 5.5.886, baseband CDMA_N_03.1C.57RLTEDC_U_05.15.02, kernel [email protected] #1, and build number 5.5.1_84_DBN-55. As I sit now, my plan is to see how it acts tomorrow and if I still have a lot of trouble with data, I will return it to stock unrooted and take it into a Verizon store and see if they will let me try a new SIM card. I don't really know what else to do at this point.

slap, there hasnt been another recovery released that i am aware of.
ver 2 of my CWM root was only to root via CWM, it doesnt replace recovery.

I know there isn't a recovery already built for the vivid but if someone could point me to the right thread on how to get into the recovery Im accustomed to Im sure I could figure the rest out

Ah you are correct, my apologies. Or maybe he's using the other CWM apparently floating around that doesn't have the battery indicator issues .
But my fault, I forgot what I wrote in my own thread! imitenotbecrazy, go to the thread that Pirateghost specified, read up on everything. Also, I have written down some things just in case you have that backup issue. Try this...
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.

Anyway, now that h8's CM10 ROM looks pretty good, I tried that out, but I'm having several issues. I'd like to just start over, but I think I'm wiping it wrong. I have WCX installed as my boot loader. Can anyone just run my through the steps to completely start over?
Boot into recovery. Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe data. Flash rom, flash kernel (boot.img) via fastboot. You should be ok after that.

The only custom HBoot for our device is the junoptbear (sp?) custom hboot that you see temporarily during the s-off process. Other hboots are from HTC RUUs
