[Q] How downgrade Galaxy S to froyo from gingerbread? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My i9000 is on i9000xxjvb stock rom. I flashed modified kernal to make it rooted and cwm enabled. I am unable to move appear from phone memory to internal SD. An error message appears " failed to move application, not enough memory."
To get rid of this, i tried Hamsterbread 1.1 custom rom, but problem not solved. I used every method from hard reset to wipe cache, data and more. But nothing happened.
Now I want to downgrade to froyo. I don't know how to do this? Please, tell the procedure in detail and step by step. I belong to India. There is no 2.2.1 version available for India. Can I go for other regions versions? or I should stick with i9000ddjp6 which is latest verison for India. Thanks

i havnt tried downgrading. but i think you could try flashin back using odin with bootlooder froyo.
i live in india but use european firmware an see no problem

^^ Im not sure about this. I think you can just flash a Froyo ROM via CWM. I am not sure about this. It always makes sense to search around before you do either. Good Luck!

If you flash speedmod (or whatever froyo kernel you choose) through odin, then simply install whatever rom through cwm via zip file. The downgraded froyo rom doesn't need bootloaders, the gingerbread ones are backwards compatible. Tried it myself and it worked without a hitch.

Just flash any stock firmware through ODIN with pit and repartitioned tick and you are good to go.

Makes sense to open eyes and read the post that tells you how .Or even use the search button .

just download a stock froyo firmware and flash with odin. there are tutorials all over the place

just flash froyo kernel using odin and then enter clockwordmod install zip

CWM Help?

So, just switched out my captivate because my warranty was still in effect. Rooted etc etc. But I remember installing CWM with rom manager to begin flashing my first rom back in the day.
But anywho, I have installed ROM Manager, clicked to flash CWM but when I go into recovery (vol + - & Power) All I get is the samsung one. (Blue text) and I only have the options to reboot, install packages, clear cache or wipe sd card.
Can anyone offer any advice?
^ Try reinstall packages. U may have to do it twice.
Gotta install the update.zip with install packages but you have signed bootloaders if you're on stock froyo. Odin to 2.1 and install cwm from there. You can find the update.zip for cwm on the cappy forums and just put that on the root of your internal memory to avoid using rom manager. Don't even have to root to flash.

Hmmmm do you have the stock odin pit file/pda or is the old school odin where you couldnt even do that shoot you right back to 2.1?
^ If u want to go back to Stock Eclair...use the first link in my signature below.
I typically use Odin jf6 one click rev0 from designgears. Its still on the forums I believe but might be dead link. Just make sure it has the pbl and sbl. If you are worried I can upload the one I have used for the past 9 months without fail( but ffailure is always possible, just be sure to follow directions and you should be alright. ) alternatively there is a guide to get to stock jh7 on the forums using the Odin that you have to manually select files for. Should be an easy search. I believe people consider this safer for the newer builds but I used oneclick on my 1010 tons of times and have used it once on my 1012 no problems.
Sorry for the long post hope I helped

Galaxy S wont boot

Hi guys,
i just got a Galaxy S (international, germany) and wanted to flash Clockwork Mod so i can flash a custom rom (miui). I got it with version 2.2 so i rooted it with z4root 1.3 and then tried RomManager to get CWM on it. But it did always reboot into Samsung stock recovery mode. So i tried this Odin3 1.7 and flashed a Kernel and got into a bootloop (First this one, then i used the one promoted in this video (YouTube Video, description XDA Thread with promoted Kernel. Phone now stuck at booting (isn`t even bootlooping, just stuck at the GALAXY S GT etc. logo. I still can reach the Download Mode.
Can anyone please help how to get at least the phone working again I`m really desperatly.
Greetings from Germany & Merry Christmas

Install a new Rom with odin will make your phone boot again.
2.2 is probably too old now.
Upgrade to Gingerbread Stock using Odin. Turn on Repartition and follow the instructions to flash.
Download a Custom Kernel for the Gingerbread firmware that you flashed. Every Kernel except the stock comes with CWM Recovery.
Copy the MIUI zip file to sdcard and flash it with recovery. It should boot right up.
If you are still having bootloops, try doing a factory reset and then boot MIUI.
Don't try things that you aren't experienced with.
Anyway, download odin 1.85, flash stock Froyo, launch Kies, update to official Gingerbread, launch Odin, flash Semaphore Kernel and GG.
Merry Christmas!
How can i flash Stock Froyo/Gingerbread trough Odin? Can`t find anything usefull @ google
btw i can reach Recovery Mode (CWM / Speedmonk something)
(Kinda experienced by flashing around with my N1 for around 2 years now, but never heard about this Odin Program)
thanks for help anyway

I am not going to help you with this one. You need to get comfortable with the forum and its contents first. Read all the guides and stickies before proceeding with Firmware flashing. There are many different types of firmwares with Bootloaders which are often dangerous to flash and few without bootloaders. Hence, first go through the guides and go with the flashing only when you are confident that you are doing everything in right order.

Just do what dhiru1602 says. after you flashed it with the latest Gingerbread ,
flash the cf-root kernel with odin . than download the latest galaxian/semaphore kernel, copy it to your internal sd-card and flash it with the app SGS Kernel Flasher . you can find that app on the market. good luck mate !
Thanks guys, u really saved christmas for me Just booted up the latest Miui Rom!
Happy Holidays

[Q] Major issues with the i9000 right now. Please Help.

Hey guys,
So recently I tried rooting my phone with CF-Root and Odin, and then it went into a boot loop of just the Galaxy S on startup.
I eventually found out about Heimdall and right now I'm running 2.2.1 Froyo with Build XWJSD.
Problem is, that the phone doesn't read the SD card? Like it will see the SD Card, scan it, and say it's finished scanning but then it won't let me access it either in CWM or through the Android UI itself.
Any ideas? I just want to get MIUI installed haha.
Well I just tested the SD card in another phone and it works fine. So it's definitely the software/rom I'm using now I think.
Is there anything I can do to make this work. Maybe like a completely stock 2.2.1, that is guaranteed to work haha? I just need this card to be read. Because even when I plug the phone and run Kies, Kies doesn't recognize the version of the firmware. And If I try to use superoneclick root, it also doesn't recognize the version of the firmware.
So right now I'm using 2.2.1 XWJSD, which stock rom should I install with odin or Heimdall to make this work?
Thanks a lot again.
Head over to this thread and download JVZ (Gingerbread 2.3.6), flash with Odin with re-partition checked, then head over to Chainfire's thread for CF-Root kernel for JVZ and flash that through Odin as well.
Forget about Kies since you'll no longer be using that to update firmware and whatnot.
CF-Root will come with CWM installed, so after you get that done, download MIUI and flash through CWM
Thanks a lot will try it out.
This CF-Root right? CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
Unfortunately the phone is stuck in a bootloop now after installing 2.3.6 JVZ.
Did you make sure re-partition is checked? If it still bootloops after re-partition then try JVT or some other stock ROM and see if that boots up before applying the CF-Root kernel
Yeah I made sure re-partition is checked, and I installed it with the 512 pit file, unless I shouldn't be using the .pit?
your gona have to reflash the rom or install arom thats already rooted you could try darky 10.2 re or check out puggerduk on tube
Root Galaxy S i9000 and install a custom rom
Hey guys refer to this thread:

He's having the same issue, so just help us out there Thanks alot!

MIUI is running based on Android 2.3, I found the Android forum that helps me well enough to do my first flashing and rooting. Here is what you need to try to do:
1. Flash your i9000 with XXJVU 2.3.6 ( Value Pack ):
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
2. Root your I9000 with CF-Root-XX OXA JVU 2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvu-firmware/
Do everything on the post and you can install MIUI ROM from recovery straight away after that.
Hope this helps. If it does, please consider press 'THANKS' button

[Q] [i9000] [SOLVED] Upgrade to CM7.2.0

Here is my question: I have a SGS i9000 with froyo 2.2 stock and cf-root, by flashing cf-root i gained obviously root but also the recovery 2e that should be without signature verification. Now if i want to install CM7.2 can i just install it via recovery 2e by renaming it update.zip? or i will brick the phone? On Cm official wiki page about installing they say you need to have gingerbread installed but i'm on mac and i can't flash a gb rom because heimdall is not detecting the file, i also tried with a linux partition on my mac but it did not worked. to get root i used first z4root and then mobile odin to flash cf root with recovery 2e.
thanks in advance to who will help me!
PS: I also have a I9001(see signature) but the phone for wich i'm asking is a i9000!

download KIES for Mac from My Android collections link below, and upgrade your phone to Gingerbread 2.3.6 (KIES will do it automatically) than root it with a semaphore kernel to get CWM, before going on to ICS and than to JB...should be done in this manner , do not jump from GB to JB ( you will have less problems)

ok i will try it, but kies from samsung site is not working at all. and moreover i have this problem, i just want to go from froyo to CyanogenMod 7.2 (android 2.3.6 GB). without any intention to go to ICS or JB. Second thing, if i manage to update from kies then heimdall is going to recognise it? Because if not i can't flash semaphore. Last thing i should uroot the device to update from kies right?
Many thanks for your help!
new information: I have installed your version of kies, and it finally recognise the phone, but it say that the device do not support update via kies, what can i do? thanks
Second edit: i researched and now i know the problem is that i cf-rooted my phone. so how could i revert? to cf-root i have used mobile odin after gained SU with z4root. i would had avoided to flash that if i had know that today kies were to recognise my phone! please help me lso if it was a noob mistake.

Ok, since you have installed KIES and working , heimdall should also be working, IF not you can download a latest heimdall mac version, from earlier link to update to ginger bread 2.3.6, before CM..also backup efs. contacts, images etc first, IF you have CWM, you can even do a nandroid backup, before any upgrade .
Always best to do progressive upgrade as it will not complicate the upgrade by jumping from froyo to CM ( which is a custom ROM) . Best to READ the developers Flashing guidelines before upgrade too.
Flashing the gingerbread ROM will automatically remove your earlier CF root, just download your original Firmware for your region from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 , than use a semaphore Kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908 this will give you root plus CWM for you to upgrade to CM 7.2
Do not jump, as you need Gingerbread bootloaders for upgrade to CM

Ok the problem was with froyo secondary bootloader, that is not recognised by heimdall if connected to a mac, nor to a VM Linux on the same mac. so i had borrowed my neighbour's netbook with windows 7. installed heimdall there and everything went smoothly. Firstly i have flashed a new GB rom, 2.3.6, the newer eropean one, then flashed CF-root for that rom with integrated CWM 3.x.x.x. The only problem was that when i flashed from cwm CM7.2.0 i hade a boot loop, so i had to swith off the fone by long pressing the power botton, then i booted in recovery, now the recovery was cwm 5.x.x.x so i wiped data/factpry reset and wiped cache, from the new cwm 5.x.x.x reinstalled CM7.2.0's zip and the latest gapps, booted again and everything went smooth from there.
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Get SGS back to Factory Defaults

Hello All,
Have some issues with my phone that i want to run it through you all.
I live in India. I have a SGS GT-i9000
I got it first with 2.1. I updated it to 2.2.
At 2.2, I installed DarkyROM and played around with it. I tried going back to 2.2 after a few days. At that point, the Lagfix was enabled and then the flashing did not work.
I somehow fixed it and was able to resolve it and get the phone working. This was close to a year ago and i do not remember what exactly
I then installed 2.3 and it was working great. However, from then on, Any flashing i do, i get the dbdata.rfs error message and i've to flash the dbdata.rfs downloaded separately for that issue. That works, But again, If i try to flash, or do a Format Internal Flash, i see the problem again.
How do i fix it?.
I tried going back to 2.2 with the 3 file method and then went to 2.3. Same Issue
I just want to format the phone completely and go back to a saner state. Please help.
Flash stock rom (3 file) and then reset phone with code .

Tried. It works. But then comes up with a complete error trail when resetting the phone.
I am trying to get that error now. Had it somewhere......... Basically, it says unable to format and so on.
Hi.
I did this now...............
Installed Froyo 3 File combo. ( since i read it somewhere) and did a Factory reset. Works ok
Installed GB 2.3.6 3 File Combo and did a Factory Reset. Works Ok. No Error Message
And then Installed CM10 and Slimbean. All working ok
However, I come back to my original question: What is the best process to get my phone to complete defaults?.. Like all hidden partitions cleared to how it should be even to the partition format level and so on.

http://d-h.st/4nP - this is "GB Flash kit", unpack it - in there you'll find 2.3.6 JW5 ROM, Odin v1.85 and also CF-Root kernel, after flashing this your phone will be ready to flash any stock or custom ROM

Is this kit for Galaxy S i9000? Can you please confirm, my stock kit is the first 2.3.6 and I would like to use something newer (like JW5 is). Or is there a newer latest I9000 ROM from Samsung?

Yes it is 3-file stock JW5 ROM for SGS i9000 (from Samsung) +PIT512, JW5 is not newest, but for example in my country it is... there is already JW8 value pack.... just signup to http://www.samfirmware.com/, then type "i9000" in the search field and check the newest ROM for your country/carrier ... I posted the GB Flash kit cause it is the best way to prepare your phone for flashing any ICS or JB ROM, also for flashing 1-file ROMs downloaded from samfirmware
