Battery Fix Improvement..Needs Test! - LG Optimus 2x

hello guys..i am opening this thread so some people here can test this for their custom roms!
Devs need to test something if its related to Clockwork or the Usb cable that gives different values of voltage upon charge!
i am not a dev..i am just suspecting something so the next kernels could be better checking more closely somewhere here about voltage or something related to that!
Do this steps (credits goes to tetsuo55 for providing me better steps!thanks tetsuo55..)
1. Install Paul/Modaco Clockwork mod
2. Install ROM
3. Install Rom-Manager
4. From within Rom-Manager choose the option to "Flash Clockwork" (Replacing Paul's)
5. Reboot into Recovery (hold power and volume down)
6. Go to the advanced section and Select the "Wipe battery stats" option, then select "YES"
7. Go back to advanced and select "Fix Permissions", then select "YES" (this will break a lot of stuff like fonts and some applications's data)
8. Go back to advanced and Select the "Wipe battery stats" option AGAIN, then select "YES"
9. Reboot and charge to 100%
10. Drain the battery until the device loses power
11. Charge to 100%
12. From now on try to keep the cycle 20% > 100%
hope to work also for you guys !!
if this was helpful and worked for you just hit the thanks button!

i have looked into your post.
as I know, wipe battery stats force a reacknowledge of the battery properties from the OS, and...
oh crap
i'm loocking at the battery, one of the logos say "keep below 40°C/104°F" but.. in charging and or heavy use this temperature are easly reached (without any overclock)
anyway, with FR15 seem's that the charging "overheating" is gone.
i will look into it
EDIT:
i'm running the phone with minimal background service, and have the same discharge as update for all on 15 minutes.
i wil try a wipe battery

Following these instructions i must have lost my fonts or something, because both my launcher and settings don't show any text.
Any ideas on how to fix? (im using fear 8.1)

Same here, just done the procedure and its completely ****ed up...

weird issue guys..i am not facing that problem with fonts!unless you use roms with different fonts!gilgamesh uses the original fonts and mine didnt f****d up at all!
i hope you did some backups before you did this!

Yea, just restoring backup from day before yesterday... should work. We'll see
Before that I tried to flash again [email protected]'s 1.5 ROM, didn't solve the problem. I was using stock font, weird...
I'll let you know after restoring
EDIT:Ok, as expected, restore fixed it for me...

be sure to remember with which one clockwork u did the backup beacuse at start you are flashing the custom rom with pauls clockwork and then installing the clockwork from rom manager! maybe u have to put again the pauls clockwork for restoring the backup you did!

mine is at 22% now after 20hours and i made many calls about 30 sms texting..downloaded modern combat sandstorm 2 via wifi ,shrek cart and splinter cell all over via wifi..played those games a little and also downloaded maps for greece over wifi for sygic aura..!i think battery is cool for me for what i did today..but its time to charge it because i will go out to drink some beers

Haha, nice plan you have there...
Okay, tried to wipe battery stats WITHOUT repairing permissions... let's charge the beats up and we will see how it goes... However I don't believe it would help :/
Just wondering - what is your baseband version?

i have the latest which ends in 405

Clearing your battery stats is a well known method of improving battery life (up to around 30% apparently) and there's countless guides/posts about it.

I did the fix a moment ago, no problems with fonts or something else.
[email protected] 1.5 + ubuntu fonts..
2X is pluged in and battery is loading..
Hope the fix will take positive effect to my battery life.

I forgot to make a backup. but modaco 16 is around the corner.
The steps corrupted the currently selected font, so i can use any other font except that one.
It also broke synchronisation of all apps like whatsapp, but that gets restored once you use it.
So far i have not noticed a increase in battery life during usage.

Confirmed..its lg‘s usb cable problem related!!with adapter!i lost in one hour in standby mode 5% of battery! I will charge it again with original htc wildfire a/c adapter and usb cable to confirm the different between lg‘s a/c adapter and usb cable!

I too lost fonts after fixing permissions. You can just change the font and reboot, IF you can remember how to get to that setting without any text .

Okay for those who are not sure how to change fonts without seeing any text...
Get to settings (Home - menu - the settings wheel) then:

What are you saying?
1. The steps above don't make any difference, the problem is related to the LG wall plug adapter
OR
2. On addition to the steps above, the wall plug adapter used also has an influence on the total battery life. It seems that the LG adapter confuses the battery.
???
----
EDIT: it seems to work. Currently the idle drain is 1% per hour
EDIT2: i can change the fonts, but if i re-select the font i used for the commands above i again see nothing. Also lost contacts facebook intergration.

Wow..thanks buddy for this workaround!!i was kinda feel bad for those who had their font broken and i felt like that it was my fault!i am just tryin to help improve the battery life ana with your contribute and your help maybe we will find a solution till the stock LG gingerbread rom comes out to fix the problem with battery draining..!

What i said is not a workaround!
Its a question to you: What are you talking about when you mention the wall-plug-adapter?

[Q] Fast battery drain after gingerbread, anybody else experiencing it?

Well after many many tries with topogigi's rom i had a lot of battery drain, after a while i thought its probably ok cause its a gb leak, probably its not that bad.
well after few days using it i decided to change back to froyo so i changed to FR19 from modaco but i have the same drainage really really big and really fast, i use the wifi for like 2 or 3 minutes and it goes down like 5 %.
My question is this normal? is my battery broken?
i did the calibration couple of times, i checked the usage of battery, just the "0" and "1023" proccesses using a lot of battery, i also checked if it was some app runing in the background but nothing seem wrong.
can you guys help me with these issues do you think i should change the battery or just keep calibrating it.
BTW i also read about how the battery Mv should be at 4200Mv when its at 100% but mine is just at 4170Mv and suddenly goes down to 4112 or less.
I hope you can help cause this is really annoying me a lot.
Greetings
Did you do a factory reset after updating to gingerbread, you need to do a factory reset, after your battery should be fine, make sure to take your SD card out.

by that you mean a complete wipe if it like i did it like many times but nothing today im gonna try charging my phone off and deleting the batterystats.bin by myself
btw i have froyo now its faster than gingerbread but anyways have a lot of battery drain

Gingerbread is not battery friendly. With tweaked ROMs and tweaked kernels you can have correct results (see my config below), but Froyo 10d is stilll a reference hard to reach...

this could be many diff things, what i would do is 1 of 3 things:
1- try to calibrate it again
2- try a new kernel (maybe an sbc kernel, it might work better for you)
3- maybe try to flash a new rom for a bit and see if the rom you are running at the moment just doesn't like your phone.
at the moment i am running the decks rom for gingerbread and svz 2.2.1 kernel, however i just like to test new things but what has worked the best for me is the godmode (V9) kernel. i stopped using it because he is no longer updating his kernels but with godmode kernel and cm7 my phone lasted me a total of 1 day and 6 hours on 1 charge.
well thanks a lot for the help green arrow, what i did know was i charge full on and off after that delete battery stats manually calibrate it with battery monitor widget then turn off charge a little bit again turn on delete battery stats again and reboot this worked for me from 9:30 pm to 8 am just wasted 8% sleeping but anyways i thought it was too much so i checked better battery stats so there is a process called nvrm daemon the weird thing is that i dont have an overclocked kernel and im not using daemon so i wonder what it is.
if you want i can attach a screencap so you can help a little bit with this oddly changes with my battery.
Another thing is during night there was some changes it went from 2mh to 60mh then it start going down until 10mh at 7:30 am, if you want i can add the history report from battery monitor widget.
And finally im using gr4 Modaco's with stock kernel. Btw i changed my RIL to the v20j version the one that came with the rom and it seem pretty good after 10 minutes it sticked to 2mh.
well im gonna take some screens and upload them for you.
Some screens so i can get some more help

Huge Battery Drain ?? plz help, tried everything

Hello friends.
Using o2x from 2 weeks.
Tried lot of roms, all kernels etc.
but what i get average 1 day use of phone, 17 to 20 hrs (less 8 hrs of sleep then it comes to 9 to 12 hrs). with normal use.
1 hrs calls, 0.5 hrs data and remaining is here and there sneaking in phone.
i never used gps, wifi,bt etc, all are in off state.
.
now i m currently on cm7 kang by temasek with irnkernel.
still battery giving same draing.
draining 1% just in 3 to 5 mins when i m using phone (not on call or data).
and main point is i m on edge coverage, so no 2g use.
data is always off.
.
i dont know what eating my battery too much..
.
realy, i m getting upset.
i tried every kernel and every rom, did battery calibration etc.
.
Update : I forgot to mention i m using class 2, 16 gb micro cd card.
also i m using acer liquid metal's usb charger for charging.
will this affect on my battery ?
update : guys i want to mention one thing.
today i pissed of with this problem and thought it was battery problem.
so i planned to go customer care.
then turned back v20e which official 2.3 for india.
then i saw dramatic changes in my battery drain.
it was half as before, with stock thing, no apps installed, not rooted etc.
i m still monitoring my battery.
.
also one thing, is go launcher will be cause for this ?
cause when flashed with v20e. the widget show drain as around 130-150 mA.
then i installed go launcer ex, then drain was 250 mA.
.
what is ur normal drain when u r using phone ? (for those who r getting best battery life)
.
.
can anybody share his battery drain graph which taken by battery monitor widget ?
here are some screenshots :

I have a similar problem, but it's likely because of 3G. With V10F Froyo, the phone drained <1% per hour in stand by, with 3G on. With V20L, and CM7 (any version of them), my phones draines 3-5% per hour. Tried anything, any ROM/BB combination, returned phone to warranty, but nothing.

OMG u r god!
how the hell do you have such a battery life?! even I am on temasek's kang!! at avg with your kind of usage it will go for less than a day :/
same with me..
hardly a day..
is there any problem in indian phones ?
See that 'better battery stats' image you put up? See the drop down menu that says 'since unplugged'? Change that to 'partial wakelock' and get a picture of it to show us the result
Also, you seem to have a lot of battery apps on the go.. are they conflicting?

I had a problem with huge battery drain and the culprit was my sd card. I dont know why but it had problems scanning it so I think it got stuck in a scanning loop of some sort. When I removed it, all was fine.

i did it already.
My recommendation:
1. Flash vadonka's kernel (ironKrnL has good performance, but drains battery fast).
2. Remove widgets which keep accessing the net in background, stop background data over network (in settings)
3. Install AnTuTu battery saver and set battery saver level to level 2.
4. Remove SD card. Try to manage for a day without SD card. Set internal storage as SD card in CM settings.
5. End all background apps after using any app (use dr. battery saver or similar app to kill all apps).
6. Take any other precautions, such as lowering screen brightness, tick "use only 2G networks" option, dont allow automatic email syncing in background etc.
Try this for one day on a full battery and let us know the results. If it does not improve much, you probably have a defective battery. I also own this phone in India and my battery easily lasts 2 days on normal usage.

Thats normal i think. Get nearly the same results.
Try Rugglez suggestion.
Also check if your Baseband matches your RIL.(Download GetRil from Market)
And go into Settings --> Apps --> Running Apps and check if there are many Services running in the background.
Also you can try to install the Autostarts app, which lets you control which apps are allowed to open themselves in the background.

ICS update Battery Issues

Alright so like many other people on this and other forums, I updated to ics 4.0.3 two days ago and been experiencing battery issues since. But my battery issue is a bit different from what I've read about. My note has no problem going into deep sleep, when i go sleep and wake up deep sleep is at 98-99% and my battery drains about 1%. But when I turn on my phone and start using it no matter what I do, the battery drains about 1% every 3-5 minutes.
Phone settings:
- I always have my brightness at 0 and have screen filter on to make it even less bright(even though battery drains about the same with or without this on) (batter settings still show that screen is taking up most of the battery)
- With wifi on or off battery drains just as fast.
- I havnt started my new data plan yet so im always on airplane mode( battery drains the same with this on or off)
- My note was never rooted
- I basicly have no widgets on anymore because i deleted most of them but doesnt help battery life.
- With power savings on or off battery still drains the same amount
- The only apps i have installed after ics are ones from googe play(netflix, chrome, and other simple apps)/ i deleted my emulators and other apps that iv'e downloaded and installed
Can anyone please help me with this issue
bump

Did you perform a hard reset on your device after the update?
if not, then see if you can try it and get back again with your screenshots.. don't forget to do some re-calibration also on your battery. This works on my end before. Not sure if it works on yours, but hey.. there's no harm in trying right? just give it a shot bud...
Cheers!

Turn off the sync. Kill Background applications and See if it works for you...
Also download Battery Calibration from play store... Open it when its fully charged and start calibration... Let your phone battery fully drained and then charge it again to full without pauses...

Op never ever ever ever ever ever do a factory reset from ANY ics stock kernel.. It will get your phone bricked.. Or maybe but just maybe not? Anyways will you take the chance?
I was on 4.0.3 stock and yeah the battery it's horrible.. Don't know why the phone barely goes deep sleep.. Check this with cpu spy free app from market
Since the phone upgraded itself to 4.0.4 I have been able to run 14 hours with 5 hours screen and the phone its always on deep sleep

yea i knew theres a huge risk involved =/ , is there anyway i can update to 4.0.4 because it's not showing up on kies
Yeah following the several guides around.. They all lead you to download 4.0.4 and a gingerbread rom from Sammobile, downgrading your phone to gingerbread by flashing it via odin and then flashing ics 4.0.4 via odin also .. So go ahead and read some..
Cheers

cpuspy and betterbatterystats to check partial wakelocks and whats keeping phone awake. A gazilion threads on that. read them. You need these as Samsungs analytical view state nothing usefull, they need to fire the designer of that.
Next to this I see lot of screen on time, how much time roughly is that in total, you are actually using device?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
my phone doesn't have the deep sleep problem people have. my on screen time is about 6 hours before it drains completely and by on screen time it could be on the home screen with no wifi/net and no apps running with just the screen on, and the battery would still go down 1% every 3-5 min
So ics 4.0.4 came out for the UK version of note so i updated via kies. This didnt fix battery life at all, in addition iit came with another bug where my phone gets hot and drains battery when turn off the screen after playing any media file....So my question now is can i root 4.0.4 if i have the Emmc bug?

[Guide] Calibrating your battery

Ok so I'm going to tell you how to calibrate your battery, this is advised every time you flash a new ROM, you're probably asking why yourself why you would do this...
Advantages: every time you flash a new ROM your system gets confused and can result in your battery stats being incorrect meaning your phone might believe it has 0% battery and shut down despite having power left, this will fix this and so will actually give you a longer battery life
What you need:
The ability to read, and either
Cwm or the app "Battery calibrator" from Google play (I recommend the app)
OK.. so first charge your phone to 100% battery then go to either cwm recovery mode or the app, on cwm go to advanced settings and delete battery stats, on "battery calibrator" simply click the calibrate button and this will reset your battery data...
After doing either of these methods you're done, its recommended to let your battery drain completely before charging again but not needed...
I have included a screenshot of the very easy to use battery callibrator app... (having a problem with upload ill try in next post)
---I've definitely noticed that my battery lasts longer especially at staying over 80% before it would drain from 100 to 80 in literally half an hour now each percentage is equal and drains alot slower---
IF THIS GUIDE HAS HELPED YOU DONT FORGET TO SAY THANKS

There's no way to specifically see if your device needs calibrating which is why it's recommended after each flash, however if you believe your battery is draining quickly even while doing nothing on your device it's probably because you need to calibrate
Just uploaded the screenshot of "Battery calibrator app"

Clearing battery life wont give you a longer battery life. It just corrects the battery reading. Thats about it.

And other simpler way to calibrate is to reboot recovery - Go to advanced - Wipe battery stats.
When I clicked on the calibration button once it said calibrated....when I again clicked it prompted your phone is not rooted...I am running jellyblast rom....so device is definatly rooted....after some time it prompted this....moreover the app is not showing in superuser list....

The recovery method is in the guide, also this does extend your battery if your phone is switching off early because it believes you have no battery left when you do
Also to the guy who's having problems: that's normal after you click calibrate once you're done if you click it again you get that message

Yes, once you clicked it it's done, and if you click it again that happens... It's all normal, the battery stats will be recreated when you run out of Battery which is why it's recommended to let it all run out

Used my ACE without calibration (on Simplicity v3.5 Rom) - Phone was fully loaded, after around 10 min it was from 100% to ~90-85%.
This morning i calibrated and after ~10 min it was from 100% to 93% ... guess it helps?!

Yes it means it has calibrated your battery,
its giving a more accurate reading now,
P.S The only way this can help "Extend" your battery is if your phone was reading 0% and shutting down despite still having power left,
alot of people pming me asking how it extends your battery... So yes it can extend your battery.... sort of
Yeah, but i have to add:
I'm using "One power guard" atm - this app is really awesome and helps alot against battery draining - i like this, plus Supercharge, DOMscript and battery calibration - its really nice

Yeah I've recently tested this, it even has an official review by XDA, but tbh it basically just changes your CPU parameters quickly (Several other apps can do this such as frills CPU meter app) and when certain conditions are met such as low battery, this app is by far the best of its kind (Fully customisable and autimated) but ... I don't really need it my phone lasts all day even when I'm gaming... I only lose 5-10% battery ovetnight
It does have a nice layout and good features graphs etc but... meh, my phones working good already

[Q] Battery Drain

Yeah i know, the same old problem but bear with me guys.
So i use Carbon..latest version (11/19) and i've recently decided to try these 2 kernels: CroPol kernel and PA kernel by tenshi and so far i've noticed no change in battery drain...it drains VERY fast!
So my questions to you guys and i'm gonna number them so they are easier to follow:
1- Is there something wrong with Carbon these last several updates?
I've bought a new battery and nothing changed. Should i migrate to a different rom?
2- Which kernel is best suited for Carbon or for S3 mini in general? and can i undervolt it?
3- I'm a super heavy mobile data/ Wifi user so what's the best governor/schedule combo to use to save battery...i dont mind it being slow as long as it saves battery. I use Powersave/noop all the time but still no use.
Please help!! :crying:
Thank you very much.
same Problem :/
I got the same problem since using the new Carbon version in KK 4.4.4.
nothing helps until now.
what i tried so far:
- formattig everything in EXT4 instead of f2fs
- factory reset
- flashing Stock rom
- flashing cyanogenMod 11 from novafusion.
- using battery calibration
what i noticed in Carbon:
-taking pictures with flashlight were killing my phone, restart with 30% less battery power. this bug appeared when using f2fs formatting but not ext4.
what i noticed in cm11:
- after normal restart also 20% less battery power.
what i noticed in all roms i tried after the bug appeared:
- when battery has around 20% battery phone will just shutdown and restart with 1% battery :/
can anybody help ?
Same here with but with random boots! (see the thread)

Same here after using f2fs on AOSPA and CM11. Now I'm on EXT4 + Stock Rom and I've got 10-20-30% battery loss after reboot.
However, battery indicator is wrong, but battery will last as if the percentage were still as before the reboot.
Also getting huge "Android OS" battery drain with no explanation from BBS
There's really no way to revert battery fuel gauge accuracy to stock behaviour?
Today i noticed also the random reboots.
When the phone was charging over the day and i tried to open SMS or any application, it suddenly reboots with 20% less battery power.
i think this bug is caused of the f2fs patition. i will try to flash a pitfile and stock again. the last time i didnt use a pit file.
i will let you know what happend

this has most probably nothing to do with F2FS or any file system. i am using ext4 and i have the same issue.
Flashed stock rom with .pit file and nothing changed
Also I'm sure this has nothing to do with battery health, since battery lasts the same as before

hopefully tomorrow i am getting my new battery and i'll see if it is a physical battery problem (mine is a year old). because on slimkat, carbon and cyanogenmod there is this problem (and stock rom as you have shown here). if this ain't a physical battery problem, may god help us (i'll be forced to buy a new device)

Mine is one year old too, as well as the ones from other s3 mini users here on xda that have had this problem... let me know if it's worth it! I'm really getting crazy on this one...
nothing changed with pit file flash
i noticed:
no installing of new apps (SD-Card interactions) except of wakelock detector
just using WIFI, G3 SMS and Phone
was the behaviour normal! around 10% battery loss in ~5 hours
But when i pressed restart to reboot the phone!
it Crashes continuesly and battery jumped to 20%.
so the phone is doing something in the bootup process, which has a huge battery drain!
ill try today evening to flash previous CM with f2fs. I don't think that the battery is damaged. otherwise the batteryloss would be consistent.
Ok guys I'm not taking credits of this method to see if something's wrong with your battery but this is it
Take out your battery and place it ona flat surface, then spin it horizontally on both sides, if on one of the two sides it spins and doesn't get stopped by friction then the problem is that the battery is going to inflate and this means the battery is going to die
This is my case, so I'm gonna buy another original battery and let you know
If it isn't the problem for you, then it's a software problem with partitions

oh yeah. my old battery was definitely swollen. not much swelling can be seen without taking the battery out but one can see it clearly on a flat surface. it spins right round
with the new battery
it's still early to tell whether it was definitely a battery problem or not for me, but it surely looks that way. here are my stats after somewhat heavy* first usage:
so, do the "battery spin test" on a table like @h4wkst3p suggested. if it spins, no good i am afraid
*: by heavy i mean setting up the system after a clean flash. y'know installing all the apps etc.
i offline charged the new battery to 95% and the images show the remaining amount.

The reboot with drop should be because of reboot after installing apps (generating dalvik etc), right?

actually, no it was after i installed all the apps i then installed adaway & xprivacy— and both need a reboot.
as i said, i first topped the battery till ~95% by offline charging. plugged out the USB cable. booted into recovery, wiped and flashed. then booted into clean slimkat and start using it. all on battery power!

alright you got me!
I've tried everything! flashing stock,pit,cm10.2, cm11 newer revision, deleting batterystats.bin and dockbatterystats.bin. reloading several times, but only got depressions.
Maybe there was a strange bug during the first flash progress, which destroyed the battery ?
Because we flashed all the same CM11 based version, and it killed the batteries, which was running excellent before :/
i'll order a new one now =) did you buy the original one? or another with more mA ?

original one...and after the second charge it holds on standby quite nicely
I finally made it to get the original Samsung battery for Christmas from Amazon
This is my partial usage with a reboot at 65%
After the reboot it got to 66%
This is great, so it definitely was the old bad battery
