I am pretty sure I am not the first one to think along these lines, so I am seeing if anybody has heard any announcements along these lines from hardware companies, as I would be very interested in this kind of setup.
Basically, what I have in mind is a sort of bluetooth-connected phone, with a minimal screen and numberpad that would be paired with a tablet with voice capabilites to act as a real phone while the tablet is tucked away in a bag or pocket. So basically you could treat it as a phone, while the tablet is actually doing all the work.
The advantage being you could have full tablet and phone capabilites from two pieces of hardware while being on one phone plan, not to mention the phone could be made incredibly small and light as there would be much less hardware necessary for it to function.
Now naturally as the voice and data enabled tablet space is just now reaching the market, I wouldn't expect anything to be available, but as I said before I can't be the first one to think of this, so if anybody has heard of any murmurs regarding such an idea please do tell.

Exactly my thoughts about Galaxy Tab?
@DDReaper Can one make phone calls from liveview?
I too am interested in this. Has anyone figured out how to install and use the dialer on the pad?

I don't think so, it wasn't mentioned in the initial announcement/press release IIRC.
Also, on one of the pages on SE's site about the features of LiveView, it says:Communications
Messaging - Display incoming SMS
. . . . . . . - Display RSS feeds
Social networking services - Display Facebook™ updates
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Display Twitter™ updates
Calls - Show phone number for incoming calls
. .. . - Mute ringer for incoming phone calls
No mention of calls whatsoever.
I think you're probably as well off going for a standard bluetooth headset and maybe using voice-dialling or just dialling from the Tab itself.
I found this one that seems to be a full handset for bt:
Canyon CNP-VTW1 Wireless Bluetooth Voip Phone
This little nifty thing is cool. I had one of these earlier. They where bundled with some Acer laptops earlier. Works just as a bt headset.
Acer Bluetooth VoIP Skype Phone
Hmm, double post
This doesn't have the keyboard you mentioned...
But it is a pretty cool device... bluetooth speaker separate from the Tab...
BT receiver/ speaker with text recognition as well... and calls out name or phone number of person calling.
okay... xda won't let me post a link cus I'm new... google frommy+galaxy tab+bluetooth speaker
and it should pull up.
I have bought a QLA bluetooth for my tab, after paired, I can just use it as a mini phone. Please refer to this page. Sorry, it's Chinese page, but you can check the image, just what you want - screen, dial pad, and download contacts from Phone.

And here you can see another user (not me) used it for Galaxy Tab.

So you want to play PS3 while holding a phone to your ear?
What are you trying to do? I think I understand, but why? Even using it in speakerphone mode would suck...I am just confused as to the functionality of it is all, but it could probably be done...
Well I dont want buy bluetooth headset you know how you use it as speakerphone to talk to people, can you it as mic
Hmmm...I dunno. I don't have a PS3 to try. I was just curious about why, but that makes sense.

Pretty sure if you did get it to work that the background noise would irritate anyone on PSnetwork trying to listen to you. That being said the PS3 only recognizes certain bluetooth profiles (mainly the HID profile) which the hero does not have. In short, there's no way that I know of to do it. Many have tried to get it to connect so they can use it as a keyboard or remote, but no one has been able to do so yet.

Dear everyone!
I´m a biker, and my girlfriend and I, have android phones. My question is: Does anyone know an app for chatting by bluetooth without to press any button (a little bit like skype but working with bluetooth in order to use it everywhere)???
If not, is anyone able to make such an application? It will be the dream of every bikers having android...
Thanks a lot!!!
Hi
Upgraded from a HTC Desire to the O2X. Amazing phone and v pleased with it.
However I've come across an issue that I wonder has anyone else seen and hopefully resolved.
My HTC Desire successfully paired with bluetooth enable in-car system (Range Rover) and the phonebook was downloaded. The O2X pairs fine and I can make/receive calls but the phonebook does not download.
Is this caused by the LG contacts app or is it something else.
Thanks for any help
Jake
I will be confronted with this problem in 2-3 weeks as well, when my new car arrives. It's everything about bluetooth protocols.
The perfect solution would be to have the rSAP protocol running on the LGOS but as we probably all know, it's an Android problem that this protocol was not foreseen.
The protocol we have to use is called HFP Hands Free Protocol. One disadvantage of this one is, that it's not as flexibel as the rSAP one. You may have to remove the old phone out of the in-car system. I can't tell you which one is used in your Range Rover but I'm quite sure your Ranger Rover Service Partner can help you with this.
good luck!
hey guys,

Not sure if there is an app, but Android must be capable as the SixAxis PS3 gamepad app can tell me how much battery is in my PS3 pad.
Plantronics has a headset battery app available for the phone, but my Voyager Legend headset announces how much talk time is remaining when I push the talk button, so I don't use it.
