Milestone is not compatible with Rom Manager. You need to read up a bit on the development forums, there is a sticky with all that you need to do.

Now updated and working!
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
Koush and I have been working on / stumbling through getting recovery running on a Legend without using a PC for devices rooted with a test image. The same technique also applies to the Desire... and after a lot of work and debugging... presenting...
fake-flash!
Fake-flash using a similar concept to the original root method, it launches a recovery image from the test image recovery, but instead of pushing the files from a PC, the files are extracted from an update.zip on the SD card. Here's how it works...
Preperation
Download the fake-flash update zip from one of the links below
Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card (the name MUST remain as update.zip)
When you want to launch the recovery image
Turn on your device with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'
When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'
Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip
That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!
Neat eh?
DOWNLOAD
Just to caveat this initial release, we've yet to carry out extensive testing and you are constrained somewhat by the limitations of the stock kernel (e.g. no support for EXT4).
That's it for now... enjoy... i'll update this post as further advances are made. If you'd like to support Koush's work, consider buying 'ROM Manager Premium' from the Android Market.

i got saem errår Q.Q!
question
What does it really do excatly, i am a newbiee here. Sorry about that.
if your phone is rooted you can flash a new rom without connecting your phone to the computer
It works only on rom 1.22 i think...
you probably need a goldcard for that, so keep it in mind
still not working?
Thread disapeard on modaco :s
To someone this procedure works?
From that that I have understood it is not the FakeFlash of the Desire of the Legend?
And accordingly on the Legend it doesn't work (at least on my Device )
Would like us a FakeFlash I suit for the legend
I cannot make it work.
Just like other i receive this error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
in the modaco topic (http://android.modaco.com/content/h...unching-recovery-on-your-device-without-a-pc/) is written in bold:
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
I tried but ROM Manager:
Clicked on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
it pops up a selection Menu with "Confirm Phone Model" (the only option is HTC Legend)
then it downloads the fake-flash recovery e returns me "Successfully downloaded ClockworkMod recovery".
When i try to reboot in recovery (trough ROM MANAGER options) i receive a blackscreen with a device in background and a question mark. After some seconds it restarts.
Help!
I have the same error.
Anybody asked Koush?
May he works on it?

Could you be more precise with the recovery what does it say? Do you have openrecovery installed?
what a problem
Think this needs to be in the General forums not under accessories...
I keep on getting this error when trying to flash a custom ROM into my phone. Is there a way to manually apply the ROM?
I tried booting into recovery then conecting my phone through usb and running the following commands through cmd: "adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip". then it tells me if I want to push "update.zipj", but once I press enter it gives me, "error: device not found"
Here's the cmd log:
Code:
C:\Users\Admin>cd\
C:\>cd\android\android-sdk\tools
C:\Android\android-sdk\tools>adb devices
List of devices attached
000000000000 recovery
C:\Android\android-sdk\tools>adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip
protocol failure
C:\Android\android-sdk\tools>
C:\Android\android-sdk\tools>adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zipj
error: device not found
C:\Android\android-sdk\tools>
Am I doing the manual flashing corrrectly? I figured manually flashing the ROM would stop the error from coming up. Could someone either show me or point me in the right direction on how to fix this error and/or possibly how to manually flash the ROM in detail. I've already searched and I keep seeing threads with people asking for similar problems but with no real answer.
any help is appreciated.
1. adb push does not flash a ROM - just copies the file to the SD card
2. Looks like you are in recovery and you cannot push a file, unless you mount the SD card in recovery
Not sure what you mean "manually apply the ROM". ROM flash has to be manual, there's nothing automatic about it.
And, if you had really searched... I am sure you would have found atleast 10 references on how to flash a ROM.
Anyways, here's a link that will give you enough information to just about do anything with your CDMA Hero: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063843. BTW, this is a sticky right at the top of where you posted this question...
BOOM. lol. Also the status 0 is an improper mount command, or you have a bad version of busybox. What zip were you trying to flash out if curiosity? And are you rooted, if so how did you do it?
What I meant when I said "manually" I meant to do it through command prompt instead of Rom manager or through recovery. And I was mainly searching for a fix for the status error I was getting. Which there is no info about that in the link you posted, however it does help with flashing my Rom through command prompt. :]
@il duce It's called "nfx speedy kingdom". I've been using the salsa builds in the development section, but I came across this Rom and it says it has everything working including Bluetooth so I wanted to test it out. Ill try using the tutorial on flashing roms without an sdcard and see if it works.
1. By the looks of it, adb is not recognizing your device... so, first and foremost you will have to setup everything properly for adb to connect
2. Even if adb recognizes the device, to the best of my knowledge, you cannot flash anything through adb, you must have confused it with fastboot. And, that too is possible only if you have engineering spl
One of the links from the thread you linked to show how to push the rom to system/data and use cmd to flash it from there, but the rom I'm trying to flash is over 300mb so it doesn't fit :/
I guess I'll try contacting the dev and see if he knows of a solution, might be that the file isn't correctly packed or signed?
edit: flashing using RA recovery it gives me the following:
Code:
E:Missing file:
system/lib/libvoAMRWBDec.so
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted
Does that mean it's the ROM that's corrupted?
Dude wtf... thats an evo rom.
Also, andy is correct 100%. Cease and desist before you bork your phone.
o_o he has it under heroc roms.

Edit: Sorry everyone for the questions, I just pm'd nfinitefx and he cleared out everything for me.
I'm trying to install HC 3.2 from the stock Froyo install on a T-Mobile Streak 7.
I'm pretty sure I've followed all of the posts correctly, but I seem to get hung up and am hoping someone can point out the obvious (I hope) mistake.
First off, I'm using the flashing guide at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_7/Flashing_Guide
And the files found at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_7#Official
Specifically, I'm using these files (US 4G 514 build):
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/514/recovery.img
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/LG7_514_21700_30.pkg
I seem to have no problem installing the recovery image and installing the rom package on the SD card.
But, when I try to go into the Recovery mode and select to update via update.pkg, I get the message "Booting recovery kernel image" and then it just hangs.
I've downloaded both files twice in case there was a problem with one of the downloads and that did not fix it.
As a test, I installed the old recovery image:
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak7/336/recovery.img
And tried to update to the 514 package, and it failed (gave the FOTA error - as expected).
Any ideas on what is going wrong? Thanks.
You can try to open your .pkg simply when device is power on - from downloads or with file manager. I installed HC official update (but i have wifi version) this way, without recovery
I cannot get it from the update section because it is a T-Mobile version.
As for running it from the file manager, it is an "unknown" type. Not sure how you can install a .pkg file direct from the OS.
Download XPlore File Manager and try Open in a system in submenu on long tap
Hi everybody,
I got a big problem. First of all, i'm not english, but it dont matter.
Next, i've recently ( october ) Root and Flash my phone, and installed the SGSIII Rom. My roommate have take my phone and have put the wrong code 55 times(genius) and now i can't turn on my phone ! It's locked on the " S III " screen .. So i need your help. I'm a noob, like says the video
And I don't nknow what to do. I think i should use a " recovery " but i'm not sure of the meaning of " recovery " so I'm stucked..
Really need your help guys
EDIT : I forget one thing, i just want to back up my phone to the normal version .. No root, no flash, i got blackmart alpha so whyr oot ? x)
Exen
Switch off ur phone. Now, press HOME+POWER buttons together. The screen you will see after that is known as "Recovery".
However, if you want your phone normal as before (no root) then, firstly, you need STOCK FIRMWARE of YOUR COUNTRY. Also, be careful... if your phone has 'i' or some alphabet after model name (such as: Galaxy Ace 5830i) then you need 5830i firmware.
REMEMBER:- 5830i is not same as 5830(without 'i').

Thank you for your answer.
I've found a stockfirmware of Europe ( i'm french so i hope it's ok ) for android 2.3.3 ( my version of android ) called S5830XWKPO.
What should I do ?
If you remember your (previous) stock firmware version & you are sure that now you have the correct firmware for your specific device model, then search on GOOGLE for firmware flashing methods for your model. You may also find plently of them here on XDA too. You can also find as many video tutorials on youtube.
Firmwares are generally of two types:- full package(contains 4 files) & one package(contains two files). You can extract the downloaded firmware file to ensure whether it is "full" or "one package". You need Odin.exe to flash firmware & an "ops" file.
... & PC (ofcourse...)
& By the way... what was that "wrong code" you are referring to??

I've find the correct version firmware for my phone, that is ok. But, i put it on my SD Card and my phone can't detect it .. When i turn it up with HOME + POWER buttons, i go on " install .zip from SD card " and i can't see the file .. I'm a bit stucked.
Ok, to make that my phone back to factory leaving ( excuse for bad english xD ) i must Re-flash it ? Like a normal flash, but with this firmware ? And after, must I unroot it ?
EDIT : Ok, i've put the .zip file on my SD card, and i select : " install zip from sdcard " , after " choose zip from sdcard " and at least i select th S5830XWKPO file and i push home. it launch the installation and says :
-- Installing: /sdcard/S5830XWKPO.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update
Installation aborted
And i dont now why it aborts.. Maybe because it's the wrong file ? I really need help i'm a bit lost in all of those firmwares, continents and all of that x')
Thanks for help dude
Read the tutorials, to flash a firmware you need a pc and odin.
Recovery is for installing custom roms.

No No Bro!!... You can't flash it from your phone. Transfer that S5830...zip file to computer & extract it. Then open Odin.exe & place appropriate files in the concerned fields.
For one package f/w installation, tick the option "one package" in odin screen, then place that single ".tar.md5" file under One Package field.
However, if you got full package, you need to place those files in appropriate fields.
(Just search about flashing processes on google.com to know how exactly it's done.)
[]*Remember:- To flash stock firmwares you need to have pc & phone drivers & only custom roms can be flashed through CWM recovery(via phone)*[]
Hope this helps...!!!
