**THIS IS FOR I9000M ONLY**
I'm just wondering if others with a manufacturing date of 12/10 have any SD issues. I've updated to JL2 with mine and it's working great. GPS even seems to be fixed (as though it was a hardware issue and not a software). This GPS works flawless.
SO, my question is for those of you that have a phone manufacturing date of 12/10 (10/12 on the phone behind the battery - i.e. December 2010) AND you have updated to Froyo (ANY FROYO, particularly non-Bell specific ones such as JK4 and JL2), have you had any problems with your SD card?
My says 10.12 on back of the battery. I updated to JL2 since yesterday and no problems at all (had to do a factory reset since market didn't want to work, other than that nothing else). It would be cool if they fixed the internal sd card problem, I don't have to be too scared .
JL2 is supposed to fix SD Card issue, so users with device before september should have no problem.
As for the GPS, I can't tell since I've just installed JL2, but I haven't got any major problem with JK4 neither, so!
So far so good for me. Been running for about 5 days. Was on JL2 and now I'm on Darkyy's 7.0 Rom.
Okay, then I guess what I'm asking is...has anyone updated to ANY version of Froyo with a phone manufactured 12/10 and had SD card problems.
Although, I don't really see JL2 making much of a difference. I'm basically wondering if the SD card in 12/10 phones are like the other I9000 models where you can install any ROM and not have problems.
I'm running Doc's 6.2 with JK4 modem. No problems so far, and GPS actually works properly.

is there an actual manufacture date on the phone, and not the battery? for instance my buddy's phone got replaced, but he kept his original battery, so he doesn't know when it was made. i assumed going by the IMEI it was a 98, when the one he had before was a 53.
There is a sticker on the phone under the battery, mine is12.10, and it came with froyo JL2 out of the box.

How do you check how many satelite your device is connected to. Just got this and was wondering.

ive only had my 10.12 phone 1 day so far so i wont vote yet, but ya so far so good. my august manufactured phone died within 24 hours of the first 2.2 update so im past that point anyways.
I have a 10.12 phone. Got it on Thursday but have been to scared to update to jl2 yet. As I have previously reported however with this phone my gps has been flawless using jh2.

My phone was replaced with one manufactured 10.12. Next day I installed Darky's 7.0. So far, so good!
i hope no more SD card problems
i had Dead Sd card issues with 3 I9000M yes 3 ..they were on diffrent firmwares JH2 and JK4 all 3 died .Now i own a iphone 4 ..i am planning to replace it with I9000M i hope this SD card issue is fixed for good with 10..12s manufacturing dates and JL2 firmware .Keep us updated guys ...OH ya i hope if we install custom roms on the new 10.12s we dont get DEAD SD .i am sure that dead SD card was mostly hardware related issue
Been running JL2 on my 10.12 replacement for 5 days now. I recorded about an hour or so wourth of video + have 5gb wourth of media on a 16gb external SD card. My phone was locking up and being unresponsive the past few days at first I thought it was the lag fix but now I narrowed it down to the bluetooth as it always seemed to be locking up when right after turning off my truck. I installed a stereo with bluetooth everytime it drops the connection when turning off my truck it locks the phone up for a good 5 minutes before it becomes responsive again. Anyone else experienceing this issue with bluetooth on headsets or stereos?
Aside from those issues my phone is still alive I'm tempted to install hardcores kernal or possibly switch to doc's rom to see if it fixes the issue. Worse thing that could happen I guess is I get $100 credit to my account and another SGS replacement.
Is it strange that I want my 2 i9000m's to die so I can get December ones?
a friend of mine actually works at the samsung repair center, he told me that there is a internal hardware differences betweent the i9000 and i9000m. the i9000m is actually uses less parts to cut cost. of course, samsung and bell didn't know this will cause all these i9000m failure. and he told me the new build will still have the same issues, the engineers at samsung is only using software to avoid these potential problems from coming up not hardware because of cost of replacing these i9000m units.

Yeah, that's a bunch of bogus.
well, i don't know why you say this. I owned a galaxy s myself, and i love this phone. Why do you think there are so many problems with this version of galaxy s compared to the regular i9000? you don't think there is differences in the manufacturing process and parts source? To me, this phone has manufacturing flaws.
And today, what pissed me off more about this bell galaxy s is that. They no longer do warranty service for ppl who bought this phone off of another bell user even if you have the original receipt with the phone. You need to call this number they provide you, and you need to have an active bell mobile account in order for them to do the replacement of the galaxy s. And FYI, my i9000m died on christmas eve after a week of darky's rom, which makes me believe that i9000m is prone to custom rom.

different chipsets = different manufacturing process
Hello guys. I recently installed Ultimate JPY v7.2 and now I have more lock shutdowns then usual. I have a version 1007 phone and it had fairly infrequent random shut downs that happened only when I locked the phone. Now they happen 1/5 times I lock the phone. Is it my phone, or the Rom? And is their a solution for either of them?
You can try different ROM first, like Phoenix, etc. Otherwise, it will be phone's problem.
are you in the defective imei range (anything below 6000 on last four of your imei)?
If you ARE in the defective range, I suggest you try using a more stable ROM, like Cognition or Darky's, and waiting for the new ATT Android phones to come out; warranty departments over the phone are advised about the random shut offs and have to replace it.
You might want to look into the Inspire, Infuse, or Atrix, the three new comparable models to the Captivate.
I'm not in the IMEI range, and if I tell AT&T will they replace it or will they give me a different a complete different phone all together? This is a defect and I'm not forking over another 200 dollars for a new phone. I'm happy with my captivate, but if need be I'll transfer to a different phone, but I'm deffinately non giving ANY more money to AT&T then I already am.
I had this issue with latest Darky 9.0.2(?) (using the v8.1 > Darky App method). Wasn't sure what it was, so I just flashed a different rom and the problem didnt follow me.
I had a ton of them on ultimate 7.2, a few on darkys pheonix di11i and stock. So i dont really know if its my phone or rom

Hi guys,
I am ready to finally get rid of my tmobile wing! I finally made my decision to go with the international version of the SGS. Well, almost, I do have a few questions to owners and US users in particular:
- I would like to know of really bad known issues of the phone. Every phone will have some issues, it is a given, but what I am talking about is issue like the captivate where a lot of people have random shutdwon of their phones. I would like to know if there are any similar issues with the SGS that will prevent basic operation of the phone ( I know about the gps, and I am fine with this problem)
- How is reception, drop calls and call quality on the ATT network, and if someone is in FL, please tell me about your experience.
-I am aware of the fact that the phone has only 1900 Mhz band but I have been looking everywhere for a map that will show where the 850 vs 19000 3G areas are and I cannot find one! so if someone knows where to find one please a link would be great.
Thanks so much in advance for any input.
sure there are owners who can answer at least the first question. Please!
You need to wait for USA ATT owners to read your post .

Well, I would think any owner could answer my first question. that would be helpful, to make sure I am ok buying the phone. I am in a dire need of a new phone as my current one is falling apart. So if anybody who knows about this phone, it would be nice if they could chime in.
Thanks in advance!
I can't really answer anything about the reception on AT&T, but the problems with the phone there are lockups. It can freeze. But if you flash a custom ROM onto the thing, it runs like a dreaaam.
I have been bugged by the lagging on the first week i got the phone. managed to apply the lagfix and seem to be doing great so far. I'm planning to wait for official gingerbread from kies. Still afraid of flashing though.
Yeah dunno much how to answer your questions tho. but yeah, SGS is the best phone yet i ever had.
I've got the international i9000. From last August till now, I haven't had any problems. I put this down to 2 things, one good fortune ,and secondly it's unbranded and unlocked from new. The phone has gotten better with each firmware upgrade and now on 2.2.1 even if gingerbread wasn't coming my phones just fantastic and it's quick. The phone apparently can be rapid when its on gingerbread listening to the lads on XDA and some say it takes care of the only thing Ican say negatively about the phone, which is the battery life, and personally, (The lads on here probably know better.) I put that down almost entirely to system spyware,as three hours of internet knocks mine down to 48%, and even with all syncs turned off and all apps taken out except the sammy key board every so often all the g***l* stuff restarts itself in one form or another and you can see the little green and red data arrows active. AS a phone, I believe with this next official update coming, allowing for the gs2, allowing for it not having a camera flash, this is the best phone money can buy, yes there are dual core phones, yes a few more pixels, even yes, I'll probably at some point get the sg2, but not because it's needed , it's just what we do, after all we come to this site with the others because we like phones. Hope this helps in some way.
If you read around the forums, you'll find a lot of great things about this phone. I couldn't be happier with mine really. Reception is never a problem for me though I'm in Canada. Some people claim they have GPS problems, but there are several fixes that can help you improve/overcome those problems. They claim are that they can't lock enough/any satellites on their GPS system to get a reading, but after using GPS test app to learn a bit about the best way to detect a signal it works like a charm for me . You won't regret it, although I would probably look into a SGSII if it were me.
If you are going to be on AT&T why don't you buy the i9000m
Most of the issues in the phone have been down to bad firmware by the carriers and also a silly design decision from Samsung with regards to file systems on earlier firmwares.
Running 2.1 firmware the phone was slow as heck and my GPS which was set to Autonomous mode would take sometimes up to 5 minutes to get a fix. A simple setting change gets GPS lock within a few seconds. Also with each firmware release the phone has gotten faster and faster.
Also if you're a tinkerer then this phone is a dream. It's hard to brick, often recoverable if you make an error, and some of the well tuned ROMs on these boards are absolute rocketships for speed.
Thanks guys! You gave me great input. I will have to make a decision, but this will help me greatly.

Don't they have a problem with this phone on some interal SD card failure? Is this something that only applies to the I9000m and not the international version?
Free ram available in this device is quite low, I had an European hd2 with 448 mb ram but it always had more free ram than my i9000 which has 512mb(almost double)... more free ram means it can do multitasking better, apparently do not need to be closed ects

Just found a SGS I9000T on amazon for $445, do you guys think it is a good deal?
Since Samsung appears to have fixed our GPS hardware on the newer and refurb phones (Captivate) is there no one that has found the fix from a Samsung tech? Or in investigating the insides for changes? It seems like everything else about these phones is out in the open. I have an old phone 1007 and it's gps works kinda. It would be neat to fix it.
Who's got the fix, come on out with it.
If you'll do a search on " GPS " you'll find theads like..
Best option for GPS performance improvement?
and True GPS Fix.
and Some background on GPS performance issues
and GPS Question
and Can't get GPS to lock at all ,
thats a just a few off the first page I searched so, do a search, you'll find enough info to keep you reading for a week . Try each of the recommended fixes , that should keep you busy for another week. BTW, early made captivates just have ****ty GPS, good luck.
I believe, Hes wondering what the hardware GPS fix performed was. And if there is any noticeable visible difference between a working and non-working GPS. Perhaps to be able to fix it himself.

Yes, Coneykiller you are correct. I know all about the so called fixes that don't work. Now that Samsung is sending out the refurb's and they are reported to work what are they doing to fix this problem at Samsung?
Id say probably a new gps chip, but thats just a wild guess. Fixing that, I assume, would be on the micro level.

My refurb 1007 was way better than my build 1012 so I think they either fixed something or the 1007 was just better. I compared with someone who got a 1100+ phone and she had at least 5 db better S/N using GPS test. She was running froyo and I was running gingerbread so I had faster lock but I still had a worse reciever/antenna or whatever the problem was.
I'm sending back the 1007 and going to try again and see what I end up with. The samsung guy admitted that the newer builds had fixed the GPS. He didnt' say what was fixed however.

Past experience has shown me that software plays a big part in how well a gps operates on a phone (my tilt 1 was poor with many early roms then got great). The captivate gps was almost useable with gingerbread but was total crap with froyo.
I'm happy to say that the refurb captivate I just recieved (build 1101) has a kick ass gps even with froyo. My captivate is finally the phone I expected it to be.
If anyone is keeping score:
I started with a build 1012 that had a really sucky GPS.
My first replacement refurb was a build 1007 with a pretty good gps (much better that the first) but still not able to keep lock all them time when inside the car.
The 2nd refurb i got was a build 1012 with horrible GPS and now
My last refurb is a build 1101 with a stunningly good gps turning it on, out of the box, with froyo on it.
So, I can say confidently "The captivate HAD "hardware" issues with the GPS with build 1012 being the worst of the worst and totally crap".
How do you guys get replacements if at&t refuse to replace it because gps isn't covered under warranty. My phone has no problems with unexpected shut downs. There is nothing to prove it except the sucky gps.

The random shut-down thing seems to be their trigger. I returned my first Captivate to an AT&T device center with three problems. I walked in and said, "I'm having three problems with this phone..."
"First, the GPS is horrible. It doesn't even lock on a clear day. I travel for work and this isn't acceptable. It used to work pretty well, but suddenly doesn't work at all" The lady I was talking to (the manager) just stared at me.
"Second, the phone has Froyo available, but Kies refuses to do the update. It starts and downloads, then tells me it failed and to try again later. With Gingerbread coming at some point, I want to be able to update this phone." She continued to just stare at me.
"Third, every so often it reboots itself or shuts itself down and requires a battery pull to turn it back on." At this point, she started nodding her head emphatically and sent me to one of the reps to push through the exchange.
I traded in my 1007 for an 1101. The GPS works fine and it came with Froyo, but the shutdown problem is more pronounced. It happened to me twice in the last week (coincidentally, both times it happened while the Amazon AppStore was installing updates). I can deal with the shutdown thing once in a while if I have a decent GPS, but as soon as the Galaxy Nexus becomes available on AT&T, I'm getting one.
were you under warranty when you swapped the phone?

Yes. I highly doubt they'd replace a phone that's not under warranty.
So i bought the international Note about 1-2 months ago. It worked fine for the past 3 weeks or so, then since 2 days ago I get NO SERVICE!! Nothing has changed at all network wise. When I go to settings i have no IMEI, no baseband, no sim, no nothing! wtf
I went to att and spoke to couple diff people including a "supervisor" and they basically told me they cant help anymore and I'm SOL. We tried swapping sims from different Notes, different cards, different phones...all the same.
It seems like this happened at the same time att released their Notes?? I asked if att made any network changes since the release and the supervisor said nothing at all.
Also tried factory resets. this is unacceptable to me... I cant keep having these ****ty Android issues... I like the features, but what good does it do if i have no service:??! or that I can't multitask for **** on this piece of crap. I'm just getting so fed up with the whole thing.
I dont really like apple, but I PREFER reliability over dealing with constant bugs and problems and disorganization. That's what this phone feels like... a disorganized mess. Like it was rushed out there... or maybe i should have never bought the euro version
Please if anyone can suggest anything I can do just to get the damn thing working again? I've already lost 2 months of data because I couldnt back **** up and just did a factory reset. I NEED CELL SERVICE BACK!!
Do I need to reload/reflash anything?
Sorry for the rant, just getting tired of this
Send it back for a replacement
i want to know what happened??! piece of junk just quit for no reason. i think it may be att network but who knows... how do they ever get in that state to begin with?
i dont want a "Note" if its going to quit without warning for no reason...there is no support for the stupid international version and the stupid US version sucks balls...this sucks
Hi there,
I'm too on att network and everything is fine. I heard that some issues came up on the made in Korea version, can you check which one is yours? Under the battery does it say made by samsung or made in Korea or by samsung in Korea?

Did you try to do a factory wipe or reset while on ICS? Your internal sdcard might have gone bad, the infamous eMMC bug of the ICS... since your IMEI is gone, as kord suggested, most likely, your ems partition is corrupt.
If indeed your ems partition is currupt, there is nothing much you can do other than send it in to claim warranty.
