[Q] Broken Cappy (Water Damage?) - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA, I'm hoping you guys can save my Cappy.
I had a rather big Saturday night of which I have no memory, and upon regaining consciousness Sunday morning my phone wouldn't turn on. I though no worries, its probably just flat, so I plugged it in and went back to sleep, when I tried to turn it on after waking, I got the Download screen, but it was red. I immediately took out the power and pulled the battery, and fearing water damage, placed it in a bag of rice, where it has remained since then.
TL;DR
1. I think my Cappy got wet, its in rice, is there anything else I can do.
2. If its not water damage, any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Not really.. if you've damaged your hardware, then you've damaged your hardware.. not much anyone can do about that.
You can try leaving it with one of those moisture absorbing silicon packets you occasionally find in new shoes or electronics, if you have any laying around.

I dropped my Cappy in a sink full of water and saved it by leaving it in a container full of rice for about 24 hours. Worked great. However, if the phone was exposed to water and it wasn't completely dry when you plugged it in to charge, you may be S.O.L. The last thing you want to do is run an electric current through wet circuitry. At this point you've done all you can. You just have to wait and see what happens.

I think Aspen. It's new, same winMo, the price is reasonable.
And go green phone, a plus point.
This evening, I wanna replace my troubled X2 with Aspen.
I would disassemble your phone and dry it out for several hours (why not placing it outside in the sun). There is a small chance that your phone will work again when it's completely dry.
Generally there is only one way to react if a electronic device get's wet: immediately pull the battery out to cut power. No shutting down, no anything, just pull the battery. Water alone cannot damage an electronic device. It's the shortcuts caused by humidity that destroys the electronics. Once I had a phone that fell into the toilet while it was running. I pulled the battery immediately and dried it out. No harm was done. But surely I was lucky too.
my x1works! all works except the sim reads as missing.. tested with another sim getting same results ideas?

[Q] Samsung Captivate out of washing machine

Hi Guys,
My Samsung Captivate got washed in washing machine and then in dryer for 1 hr. I turned it on and luckily, everything seems working except wi-fi and bluetooth are not turning on. It says "unable to start wi-fi".
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance!
That's pretty crazy... Extremely surprised it works at all. Pull the battery and open it up as much as you can and sit it in a bowl of rice for a couple days in hopes that the rice will absorb any moisture that might still be inside.
You probably should have waited awhile before turning the phone on. Take the advise of the guy above and try to continue to dry the phone out. It's going to take a few days, but it's your only real option at this point.
Also consider you might have did some damage already by turning the phone on with it still being wet...
You would have been fine with just the washing machine, but the dryer most definitely caused heat damage - which in my opinion is worse than getting the phone wet.

[Q] Digitizer?

So, question to the great Milestone community. A couple nights ago, my lovely girlfriend placed a Slurpee on the screen of my phone while I was asleep, and unable to defend my year and a half old handset.
When I woke the next morning, the phone had significant moisture underneath the screen. I placed the phone in a warm dry area (dash of my truck) to evaporate the moisture. After several hours, the problem seemed to have gotten worse as now instead of two square inches of droplets on the lower right portion of my screen, the moisture now consumed roughly 80% of the screen, panicking a little, I removed the battery and put my phone in a bag of uncooked rice, a trick I've heard many times.
24h later, the moisture had dissapeared. I noticed when I went to put the battery back in that the water damage indicator had tripped and turned red... so I was a little disheartened at that. The phone booted fine however, and the touch screen responded as well as it had before. Now two days later, the touch screen goes beserk frequently, and after a reboot, works fine for about an hour before going nuts again.
Now to the point. I have heard much of digitizer issues with the milestone... would this amount of moisture damaged mine? Is there any further steps I can take to save my phone? I am locked into a contract for another year and a half, and would like the phone to last nearly that long... any help and input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Braidonh

[Q] Another Water Damage Thread

Howdy,
Long version:
I left my galaxy note on the counter in my kitchen which is apparently not quite level. Overnight water pooled under it(never submerged, even partially). I did not notice until my alarm went off the following morning. As of this time it was still functioning properly. I moved it, wiped off the water. Took the protective case off and wiped the water off it was well, hooked it up to the charger and went back to sleep. 15 minutes later the vibration function went nuts while it popped up complaints about low battery. I say the vibration went nuts, because it wasn't the sustained vibration like you normally get it. It would cycle on and off about every half a second. I panicked, turned off the device and removed the battery where I noticed that the battery was wet, and under the battery as well.
So I wipe it off, put in a bag of rice and go back to sleep. Approximately 15(yes, way too soon) hours later I pull it out, put the battery in and turn it on. Works fine. few hours later I hook it up the charger and it immediately complains about the battery temperature.
Short version:
Phone at in a pool of water for 5+ hours, never fully submerged. Basically if you poured water on a level surface and sat your phone in it, thats what happened.. Anyways Water worked its way inside the phone(based on disasemble that occured later), and started vibrating randomly. took out batteyr and left in rice for 15 hours. Put it back together attempted to charge, phone complains battery is too hot immedately.
Observations:
I take out the battery and disasemble the device down to the point where the circuit board is separate from the display.
The far right ( +) connector that touches the battery appears to be slightly corrodeded. I rub it with a cotton swab to clean it. From watermarks it doesn't look like anything else got wet and by now its completely dry. I don't see any 'red' spots or stickers, but I'm unfamiliar with the water damage indicators, and the information i found from searches was innacurate(no white dot on top of battery, no red marks anywhere on it)
Panic
I put it back together try again, same deal. The phone doesn't seem to have a way to view the battery temperature reading(*#0*#), so I downloaded an app called 'Doms diagnostic tool' which indicates that the battery temperature is pegged at 80 degrees C and it does not fluctuate. I don't know if this app is actually reading anything though.
Can someone who has a working phone try this out? App is free.
Is it worth putting it back in rice even though its dry even on thorough dissemble?
Any idea how to get legit data from the sensor to verify if its shorted out etc?
Would a replacement battery with out the sensor resolve this issue?
Anyone have pictures of where water damage indicators are?
I searched thoroughly and found no answers besides taking it to a service center. Since I'm in America, and this is an international phone, I don't believe the manufacturer will honor the warranty even if the phone shows negative for water damage. My service is ATT, but I bought the phone at expansys( i think).
best at this point is to check your insurance, if its covered. In some countries I read this is covered as it was accidental.
I would recommend goong to samsung and let them check it, with the true story ofc. Now if they find whats wrong, they might be lenient, or not. Anyhow then you know whats broke, and you can decide to fix it for yourself or have it fixed. At this point it sounds like corrosion on one of the boards, or shorts somewhere.

[Q] I dropped my HTC One in the toilet, and it's not working at all. Can anyone help?

It was in the toilet for a second or two. I then took it out immidiately and turned it off, wiped off any excess water, and left it in a bowl of rice, rotating it every few hours, for 48 hours. I have tried to turn it on this morning, but have had no luck. The screen is just blank, and the phone does not react when I put the charger in. The led green light doesn't come on to say it's charging, and neither a laptop of computer are recognising it when I plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it, or is it just completely dead? It's a new phone on contract, and I really can't afford to get a new phone. Or does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to repair it?
Any advice or tips would be really appreciated!
Thanks

48 hours in rice ... did you apply any heat
did you shake the excess water from the phone.
centrifugal force also helps to remove water from the device.
Heat your oven to 200^F (it's lowest setting) turn it off wait about 30 min then place the glass bowl of rice and phone in it for an hour until the oven has completely cooled. wait another hour and try and charge the phone. This is about equal to leaving your phone in a hot car. but heat really accelerates the removal of water

I put a lamp (which gets quite hot) over the bowl of rice, which kept it very warm. I did this five or six times for one to three hours at a time to evaporate the water which hasn't helped. I will try the oven now. Thanks for the tip
