So I just got this SGS i9000t and it has froyo 2.2.1
I quickly noticed the audio quality was garbage in comparison to my zune hd and I started a quick search. I found out about this lag fix called voodoo and i buy the app and it improved the audio quality by a lot, and I am now pleased.
My biggest problem right now is that I get random clicks when playing audio, heard more clearly with headphones. The clicks start when the songs start, basically whenever i access anything from the phone's memory. I believe this is the lag thats supposed to be fixed by voodoo control pro, so I'm wondering, am i missing something here? Some help would be hugely appreciated. Im on the verge of getting an mp3 player app but im holding it off until i get this fixed. Thanks in advance.
Are you by any chance using the JPY modem?
You're not using "beautiful widgets" are you? I got those music ruining clicks when I had beautiful widgets and they stopped as soon as I got rid of it.

I did had beautiful widgets. Just uninstalled it and am currently testing. So far no clicks!
About the modem, im not sure. I know its not a normal modem since i have flashed a phone for this company and have never been able to find one. So im leaving this SGS stock. If there is a way to find out the actual serial of this with an app or something let me know.
Edit: Been listening for about 10 minutes and no annoying clicks! If theyre not gone they have been greatly reduced. Thanks a Million bob!
Wow surprising! Didn't knew that

I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing really bad audio quality on the captivate, or if anyone knows what might be causing it?
I tried looking for info but all i found was regarding bad audio on froyo.
Im running 2.1 JH3, and I had the problem with JF6. I was using pandora and it sounded horrible (with both roms). I tried some other audio from the web today and it still sounds bad. Any ideas?

Go into the settings for pandora and check the better audio quality box. I've noticed with out that pandora sucks

I tried that, and it isn't just with Pandora. This is the only thing making me miss my iPhone....
Is it like cracking and popping?

What I'm hearing, is that when I some music files, it sounds like it is really low quality. Like an mp3 compressed to 48k (or less). The singing in a song is hard to hear, it all just sounds muddled. Listening to music in the browser and Pandora both had this effect. I haven't loaded any mp3's yet (been busy learning and rooting, etc) but I have downloaded a few ringtones, and they don't seem to experience this issue.
Listening to Pandora has been both through the built in speaker, and the headphone jack to a speaker system. Horrible on both. Also, I was using Google's Listen to listen to the most recent episode of the Engadget Podcast, and with the volume all the way up on both the Captivate and the sound system, I still couldn't really hear it. I unplugged and listened to it over the phone's speaker, and it was audible enough to hear, although not at all loud, even at max volume.
Thanks a million for the links to those threads! I searched and searched and couldn't find anything relevant to my issue. Did you have prior knowledge of those threads, or did you find them by searching? If so, I'd like to know what keywords you used (if you don't mind). I'm always trying to improve my ability to help myself, so I'd appreciate it. It's late now, so I'm going to fully read those threads and try the fixes in each tomorrow. I'll report back. Also, I'll test my wife's Captivate to see if it has the same problem. **** it, I'll do it now.
Results: Pandora sounds fine through the internal speaker, when plugged into the speaker system (iPod dock w/aux in) it immediately sounds like ****. Perhaps the bad quality is only when plugged in, I might have just thought the internal speaker sounded bad because it's tiny. I'll retest my phone in the morning.
Well i just kinda stumbled onto the thread when i was looking to see the source of the crackling and popping I sometimes hear. Though you could scroll down to any page of a thread and see the tags associated with it.
And to me it honestly sounds like a singular issue with your captivate. The sound is loud and clear on mine. Even Pandora is fine for me
I did some more experimenting. At first I had hope about the headphones EQ fix, because I figured out that it only happens on audio that is plugged in to the ipod dock. When using a headphone to tape adapter in my older boom box, the audio sounds fine. I'm going to try switching out the cables and try the other input on the dock.
And, it happens on both mine and my wife's phone.
Thanks for the info!
OK, I'm an idiot. It was the 3.5mm cable (exacerbated by the samsung EQ issue). Thanks everyone for the help.
Jp6 + Voodoo or Jp6 with OCLF has the same symptoms. Makes me think it's JP6 that is causing this.
The default music player occasionally stutters while playing MP3 Files (converted with LAME, V0). It happens a few times a day at least. I don't remember that happening in JM6, JM8 (very sure), or JPM(only tried for a day, not sure).
By stuttering I mean that the music is stuttering, not the UI. I've got over 16GB of songs, so the UI definitely lags if you try to scroll too fast on all firmwares.
The stutter is like the kind you get from CD players in the 90s if you shake them too much. Just for a moment.
Anyone else noticed this?
Count me in bro. The music list also stutters when I scroll down. I have 1.4k songs by the way (still have 5gb free still).
Same here. BT and jack. I've uninstalled one suspect: Days. But it could also be caused by kswapd0. JM5 'jittered' sometimes on the jack, but never on BT. And that sounded different, like it was missing cpu cycles. I'm still monitoring what's going on...
my music has been stuttering since day one. lag fix or not. dug up my old iPod and I'm happy now.
Ive never had music shutter. Maybe you sonegow have defective phone?

Running JP6 without a lag fix. Didn't notice it.
But then again I haven't used it a lot after the update nor have a very large song collection (only about 150~200 songs).
If you mean the music sometimes stutters, then yeah I have that too. I had assumed it was something wrong with the bluetooth connection (I use bluetooth headphones) but it might well not be...
Happened for me in all firmwares, solution was to use a different music player.
Might I suggest http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.tbig.playerpro/ ?
If this is flac, then it's a known problem since forever. I had hoped that they fixed it in 2.2, but maybe they just made it worse Is this a regression those with the problem?

If for any reason kswapd0 kicks in this means the phone is running low on free memory and starts swapping. kswapd0 is rarely ever (never?) the direct cause, it's just trying to manage the memory. Or lack thereof
hi guys. I also have this problem. I've tried ALL firmware jm8, jm9 and so on. I also tried froyo 2.2 official via kies, and it do the same stuttering problem, but much less. I don' know how to solve this problem, infact i also tried all of media player. Help me guys
Use to have this issue with my flac files, but since JPK i've had 0 issues. I'm on JP6.
I'll confirm this today

Interesting! Another reason to upgrade to 2.2
Just need a stable voodoo first
Personally. I have tested for 2 or 3 days the official 2.2. froyo. This problem ALWAYS HAPPEN, but seems much, MUCH LESS, but SOMETIMES HAPPENS.
So i start to think that is a real problem this....Someone could help? it could be the oneclick fix laga that i installed?
I think there may be a little misunderstanding in some posts.. By stuttering I mean that the music is stuttering, not the UI. I've got over 16GB of songs, so the UI definitely lags if you try to scroll too fast on all firmwares.
Yea same thing, i mean micro 1/10 sec stutter. Mine are gone though... just tested today although they weren't FLAC files. I'll have to restest with FLAC.
Didn't have any lagfix installed when it stuttered so i don't think it's that
I've noticed this in video playback. Was buttery smooth on 2.1 firmwares, but it now stutters when there is... dunno how to explain it, but it's related to sound. When some music kicks in, or there is a laughter track.
Edit: Currently using JPM, had same problems on JPK too
I'm going to try JPM again.. and hopefully find out tomorrow that it doesn't stutter. =D
<random> Music is life! </random>
When listening to some MP3s I get a weird DJ scratch like noise and sometimes small skips, like fast forward. Its very annoying. It's not the actual mp3s since I tested them on my pc, and nothing happens. It doesnt happen a lot, but when it does, man it throws me off my groove haha. Im on Juwe's Rom 2.3.3, have supercurios app, and the music is on an external SD.
What could cause this? I seem to have no luck with my media experience in my SGS...
I'm guessing an audio buffering issue, I use power amp pro where this can be adjusted, I think voodoo sound probably has same.......use search......me no spoon feed!
Insanity cm 016/glitchv10c
No spoon feeding here, I actually have my audio buffer set to huge on poweramp. I didnt want to add too much detail because peeps wouldnt read. Voodoo sound to my understanding doesnt have it, and I have the pro version. I think its an issue with my card, or card reader. i may put the cd that i know is doing it, and test that out.
If anyone is interested, I fixed the problem. In titanium backup I deleted all of the data of poweramp and it was fixed. Granted I changed of kernel before. Semaphore 1.3.1 But the fix was definitely with the wipe. Probably was leaving buffering at default. Weird bug. Thank god it's gone.

I am running vibranturk's port of ics 4.0.3 AOKP Build 23, and am having issues with paying music. First, the fact that the music apk fc's every time is a non issue as I am using winamp. Where the issue is is playing with the screen locked makes the music clip after about 30 seconds. I have disabled any dsp manager effects and it still does it. I have had success with turning off winamp's equalizer, but would really rather not (so sue me, I like good audio). For the moment I will live with the flat music, but would LOVE a solution to this which let's me use the equalizer.
My 2 cents: it seems like it is a memory issue as the clipping gets progressively worse and the bpm goes down as time goes on. This does not happen when the screen is on, making me think that the system is putting winamp on a lower priority memory class and is having its memory dumped sooner.

I believe you're on the right track. If I remember correctly, a lot (if not all) of the ICS roms drop the phone's processor to a low speed when the screen is off.
You may want to give the Icy Glitch kernel a spin - I use that one, and music playback hasn't been an issue when I've had the screen off.
Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of trying the icy glitch anyways, now it seems I have a good reason to .
I'll report back on my results.
WOO!
It worked!
Thanks!
Hi guys,
since my Nexus 4 days I am always facing the same issue of massive sound distortions while listening to music. The same holds true for my Nexus 7 (2013) and bow the nexus 6.
When playing music (e.g. Via Spotify or poweramp) the music stutters including horrible sounds similar to a broken venyl as soon as I put a little bit of load on the cpu. While on my Nexus 4 the problem was also there when the screen was of or even during phone calls the latter is fine on the n6.
I have tried all kind of kernels, schedulers and governors, but i can't make this go away at all.
It's weird that I have the same problem on all my Nexus devices. Since I do not read about others having this issue I guess I must do something wrong.
Does anyone have an idea?
Merry Christmas ?!

Turn your EQ down or master volume down.
Or try flashing the zip for stock volume on your N6 i made a few days back - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57678105&postcount=77
Hi. Thanks for your help. I tried to follow your advice, but unfortunately it didn't help. It's not related at to my volume at all. Also I didn't tinker with EQ etc. all.
I also did a clean flash with stock kernel and just tried spotify. Same thing happened.
This is really weird since it's affecting all my Nexus devices and no one else seems to have that problem though.

Is it your headphones?
What music? Is it the same files across devices? That'd where I would start. If it's any and all music then who knows.. What app are you using....?
If it's persistent across multiple devices, the problem is most likely either your headphones or the quality of your music files. You could test this by listening to an album you have in both the format you have now and a higher quality (like FLAC) and see if there is a difference. Also, if you are editing your mixer_path's and/or using a sound modification, lower standard audio will have some distortion sounds depending on how high you set the numbers.
My setup is:
RHA 10TI Hi-fi NR earbuds
High quality music files (FLAC, etc. nothing below 320 if in lossy format)
HP and RX's set to 30 and 94, respectively
Hope this helps you out.
Hey guys, thank's for all your answers and I'm sorry for my late response. I am using spotify as my daily music app. But the problem also occurs on YouTube or regular mp3s using poweramp with different quality files. It can't be the headphones actually, because i have the same distortions when using the phone speakers. I haven't tried flac files though.
I am still somewhat clueless about that. I was thinking about a rma of the n6 but then why would it be the same problem on all 3 devices. Hmpf.
Thanks very much for your help!
I have the same problems with my phone no matter what app I use and when I'm on the phone to where no one can hear me. I rma mines this week and it was overnight shipping label from Motorola. So they will have my device this Friday 2/15. They told me I will receive a new phone in return. To be honest I didnt have this problem until I updated to 5.0.1
Hmm, I really do not want to do a rma though. What I have realized is that YouTube Videos also freeze for a milisecond as well as soon as the sound distortion 'kicks' in. Seems as this really is related to the cpu not bring able to handle the 'load'.
I flashed Euphoria rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-euphoria-os-beta-0-3-t2954615 and now problem is gone. No distortion sound anymore.
