Hi all,
I have installed the WM6.1 ROM 6.1.2a16CS by C. Shekhar on my qtek2020.
It is very cool and gave a second life to my qtek. I am just a bit surprised by the duration of the main battery. It is running out of bat very fast.
As I haven't used my qtek for month before installing the new ROM, I can't tell if it's a battery problem or because this new ROM is consuming more resources. Have you noticed such behavior on your machines?
For further info I am not using my qtek as cell phone. I am thinking about using it back as a phone, but I have first to fix this battery aspect.
Moreover I have read s/t about a battery fix, that I haven't installed yet. Can s/o tell me more about this fix and what it is doing?
Anyway this ROM is a great one.
Thx for your answers
Marc
I dont know about the battery fix but i have never installed any sort of fix like that either for wm5 or wm6.x. Are you sure there isnt some background process that keeps on continuously running? It could be a battery problem if the battery had discharged alot during the non-operational period. I changed by himas battery about 7-8months back because the last battery had gotten abit too old and was discharging very quickly.
i think you are talking about SD card fix..its a registery fix that makes the battery consumption by SD-card low
well, WM5 and WM6.x IMHO are battery consuming ROMs, i can attest to this,
experiment no. 1:
same xda, same battery (1200mAH original battery)
-with WM2003SE at normal use, XDA turns off approx after 36 hrs of use including standby.
-with WM5 and WM6.x, XDA turns off WM5-18hrs, WM6.x-25hrs of use including standby.
experiment no. 2:
two xda, different OS, both with brand new 3600mAH extended life battery.
in 1 day (at heavy texting use from 7am to 7pm):
WM2003SE XDA2 - battery from 100% to 58%
WM6.X XDA2 - battery from 100% to 35%
possible explanation:
WM6.x (WM5) uses more CPU time and Memory resources, plus it probably uses more power in maintaining the persistent storage, hard and soft reset persistent memory.

Ather, is this fix already in all/most recent releases? If not, can you give us a link? Never heard of it.
I have no battery problems, quite the contrary. My battery life is amazing me. To be honest I tweaked a lot when I started using WM6.x, too much to remember, too much to tell you.
but some parts:
I don't need 24/7 phone connection, Phone Alarm takes care of this for me
Use a bare minimum of today plug-ins
Avoid animations
Close programs except when you seriously do need them in the background
Heya Maggy...its long time since i saw u here.. think maybe month
welcome back ny ways
well that fix was in the Imate website..i have it
having some problem attaching on xda : http://www.2shared.com/file/3591354/873d3f18/SD-Card_Patch.html
I have tried a lot of roms, including touch it v4.5,Jack's 3.0,offocial rom R2AA010 and some chinese roms etc .
The battery performance of R2AA010 is the best, much much better the others.
I don't know why, someone says the official rom lower the CPU frequency, but it still runs quite smoothly and fast.
I hope someone would find out the real reason and this power issue can be resolved in new roms.
The batt life for the cooked roms seems abt the same to me...
well, doing my personal testing, I just tested official (R1 and R2) and Jack's 4.0, 4.5 and now 5.0 (waiting till fix'd version to do a batt test) and I just find all version with the same autonomy.
the main thing I see, Is that I don't configure HSDPA connection autodisconnect in advanced settings (so the connnection is keep alive) battery drains much faster (in all roms).
why my battery drained so fast besides the official rom, maybe somewhere default settings are different between the various Roms.
tf3d just needs more cpu power and memory than the usual today screen of the stock roms. this, of course, drains the battery faster.
Battery consume depends only on cpu and memory (flash too) use (and on the radio, but you can't change that), so it is independent from the roms. Of course heavy loaded roms and today plugins use more power, so you decide what is important for you.

I also use TF3D
Yes
I agreed. But my big disapointment is the official have a lot of anoying application that I think I can't live with it.
The official ROM cooking might be the good chance.
it's quite surprising me that x1 battery (1500 mAh) performance is not better than TP (1340mAh).

TP has only VGA screen while the X1 has WVGA and the higher resolution screen consumes more power. So it's not so surprising
imo, battery life for wm6.5 by itje is the best
official rom lasted me around 2 days or less back then
my battery was only lasting about a day until i changed to Touch-IT by itje and the battery is now 3-4 days depending on use.
my battery life is completely pony
This is something that is a big pain for me - my battery doesn't even last a day using itje's roms (haven't tested others yet)
I think HSDPA/3G has a lot to do with battery drain. The stock rom seems to disconnect it when it's not in use, but checking my phone now, it's been connected 11hours (since I last reset it). I could be wrong with this comment tho as I've not run the stock rom in months.
Have had a poke round the registry and can't find anything that might be a timeout...anyone more knowledgeable about this than me care to chime in?

you can setup a timeout with the "advanced config" application and yes, leaving data connection enabled draws more battery than just letting it connect when needed.
Hello fellow Galaxy owners,
I have been installing various custom ROM´s for about 2 months now, so I guess you could still call me a beginner. Recently it has been difficult to keep up with all the latest and greatest advances in kernels and ROM´s. Being a father I don´t have as much time as I used to, to read through the mountain of information on the forums.
It is for this reason that I ask for some simple advice. I have found that Hamster, Instanity and DocRom ROM´s are all very fine pieces of work and they are blisteringly fast. The GPS is fast, the themes are epic but alas the battery life is pretty bad (well for me at least).
I must admit thought that I am obsessed with my phone and I use it constantly to read the news, check emails and stream internet radio while I am driving in my car on a daily basis.
I currently have DocRom slim V3 installed after having done a complete fresh installation. But despite being fast it seems to be very hungry on the power consumption.
Do I need to cycle it through some complete battery discharge cycles and fully charge it, then reset the battery stats in CWM recovery? Does it need some days to settle? Or should I flash different Kernels and see which one gives me the best life? If the latter then which kernel do you recommend for JPU?
Thanks in advance!
Same here
With 3g my I9000 die after 10 hours!
With 2g die after 14 hours!
With data network mode deactivated die after 30 hours!
I don't know if changing baseband or kernel will help or not!
BR
I'm having pretty good battery life without any network and LiveWallpapers turned off... just simple black screen it stayed ON for 4 days with some WiFi surfing, PDF reading and music listening player/online radio. So I guess network is draining the most.
DocRom V6.2
I just installed Doc´s ROM v6.2, and it has greatly increased my battery life.

Great to hear this!
I don't know if this is your case, I used to have the beautiful widgets weather widget on my home screen, and after soem time I realized this app was constantly refreshing and consuming LOTS of battery.
If you have it, removing it will increase your battery life too.
I have same problem,i do have the beautiful weather widget installed and think it looks nice on home screen, maybe this is the batt killer??
What other programs does the same? I like the watch and weather widget to be shown..?
Hi everyone. My battery life is really sucks. I bought my item two days ago. It is new. And I upgrade my version and baseband , kernel and build version like below :
N70000XXLB2
2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701 [email protected]#2
GINGERBREAD.XXLC1
I think that this version xxlc1 is last version but I wonder how is my kernel version ?
Battery life is very bad.
Moreover Charging lasts so long. 3 -4 hours sometimes.
PLEASE Help me! please
depends in the usage, rom, kernel, settings etc you are using.

Hi,
What is your battery life on the Note? Does it last a day even two?. If it does, then that is pretty much normal. You whine on a phone that you just use for only 2 days? Stop whining and complaining. You havent have had utilize the full charge and recharge cycles of your battery and now your whining already.. Man, give your Note a week or two and your battery life will be okay.
Hmm.. Is this the first time you use an android device? What phone where you using.before? If you we're using a non android device e.g. Symbian or etc. Then my reaction to your complains (of your Note) is justifiable. Symbian for the fact has always been known to be very good or decent in terms of battery life.
Now android OS, is known throughout (irregardless what smartphone/tablet you have) to have the AOS bug. It is a bug where there's some sort of a battery leak and hencefort most android users tend to root their phones so that they can stop background stock applications from running in the background. The births of custom ROMS and Kernels have given some tremendous wonders also especially on phone's UI and more so on battery management.
Again. Stop complaining and go down root your phone and install battery saving apps or custom ROMs. It's all over the thread anyway.
The sooner you customise your phone to your heart's content, the better you can appreciate it's full potentials.
Cheers!!!

My battery life is 5 - 6 hours. I am accept 12 hours. I wish it last 12 hours. Before I used Iphone4, it is not so long for battery life , however it is acceptable. I did not understand how notes's battery life so short.
Moreover I can not use custom rom. because they r not good as well as stock rom. ALl of them have some problems. But I can change my kernel.
to get battery life you either
a) dont use your phone or
b) get information to use your phone more wisely
So..
a) download a battery monitor.. there are a bunch recommended..
b) read the other 200 threads on battery life and dont start another one. Each and every question has been asked and answered ad nauseum
while you are figuring out root, and task killers, here are a few easy tips to help..particularly when you are putting the phone down for a while
apps>task manager>active apps> CLOSE ALL
apps>task manager> RAM> CLEAR MEMORY
settings>applications>running services> review and shut down apps/games that may be running in background (and that are not critical)
Again.... RESEARCH the forum.. the answers are already here. and you should read and post in existing threads

You could also have a defective battery.
On my iPhone 4, my first of 4 that were faulty, battery life depleted in less than 12 hours of STANDBY only on wifi, nothing syncing. Only being on. Battery life was so bad.
It's not uncommon to get a dud battery sometimes.
Try doing a complete restore, stock EVERYTHING, don't push anything (except email, cal, and contacts, you know, the basics) and see if you're having the same results. If on a fresh, stock, install you're having the same issues, then you've got a defective unit and/or battery.
Hope I've helped.

There are quite decent custom roms for the Note. I have tried many gingerbread versions (Chracks, rocketrom, cassies etc) currently on chrack's v18 small (LC1) with speedmod latest kernel.
I have not faced performance issues on this. But each user is different so u r the boss.
Best give the custom kernels a try for now. If u find the battery life better then ur problem is solved. The advantage of custom rom is that so much useless bloatware in the stock is removed for better space mgt & performance.
have provided some tips in the following link, feel free to go thru.

dude, you are ridiculing some of the well known devs who have made custom ROMS for all to appreciate and use. IF there was and is a problem on a particular custom ROM, it is or might be cause indirectly on the user itself, on what apps he/she insatalled on his phone. Surely you cannot generalize all custom ROMS have problems do you? if all have problems, the devs have some new revisions to fix those bugs and in no time at all your Note would be in tip-top shape again.
If as what you say, Custom Roms have problems.... then why the heck most people I know have used them and have big wide grin on their face to show off what they have and even posting a copy of their latest ROM pictures here... not to mentioned in YouTube as well.
ok. Which rom is the best stable than ? Which I should use ?
go read the threads on battery performance.. loading a new ROM will not fix problems if you do not know what you are doing.

Hi there.
I had the same issues but only after the update done on ICS.
I have over 140 different application and nearly all of them have been purchased.
What happens is that, when you are not using your phone it should go to "deep sleep". This allows your phone not to run any application and merely use any battery. Your problem probably come from somewhere in your setting an automatic update. That drains a lot....
I downloaded different application hoping that it would work out such as Juice Defender, watch dog and many others. After lots of research, I found out that it is not good for your phone to have an auto killer app or even an application that modifies the functions of other applications.
So I downloaded battery spy and cpu spy on "google play" and followed the instructions.
I needed a deeper analytic application "Kernel" and this was THE application that allowed my phone to go from 6-8 hour to 28 hours.
"Better battery stats", it's not free but was really worth the spending.
Google play chronological download
1) watch dog
2) battery spy
3) cpu spy
4) better battery stats
Good luck
I keep switching my cellphone off while not using, and same goes for wifi. Using it as a secondary phone as well. It lasts only 4-6 hours.. :S I keep closing background apps, and kill app once im done with it..
Also be aware that in areas with bad network strenght, the GNote really suffers.
I normally have no complains (0,6-1,5% battery usage per hour) but where I am now, the GNote really works hard to keep the connection and my consumption easily goes to 4-6% in deep sleep and 15-20% when using it...

If you like stock samsung looks try CleaNote 3.10 , very good n battery life , I get around one day backup with heavy usage and 2 days plus with moderate usage .
If like pure google , then try cm9 , very stable and quite good on battery back up .
And if you dont use 3g or 3.5 g or any such networks then select GSM only or use 2g networks only ( Settings -> under wireless and connectivity , More -> Mobile Networks )
Also keep your display brightness to minimum , control the brightness manually instead of auto brightness .
Turn off auto sync ( big advantage over battery ) .
Scan for running apps and cached apps and force stop the ones which you dont use .
Use titanium back up and freeze some of the bloatwares ( stock samsung apps ) or uninstall them , like readers hub , mydiary , they are **** .
And dont use task killers , they drain your battery . they may clear rom but some apps restart automatically and that needs more juice than running those apps . Hope all these suggestions help . From my experience with this phone

I didnt know that, My signal is usually 10-40%. I have bad signal strenght at home.
my battery decreases 1% in around 5 minutes of use or something. Today it lasted me 10% on standby for around 8-10hours.

You need to purchase and install "better battery stats" and also install cpu spy (I'm assuming you're rooted) and use them to monitor your phone and battery in order to solve your issue. Google both and you'll find several good threads on xda about using and interpreting these apps, but if you get stuck post some screen shots from both and someone here can almost certainly help. There are a number of potential sources of such problems, generally rogue apps, and also a bug or two, but it is impossible to offer help without the details these apps would provide.

Thanks for that, i will install it. By the way i got the "battery widget" installed, which has gained popularity on the market.
Also im only using 9% of brightness of my phone.
I'm using a rooted stock 4.0.3 and I'm finding battery life its pretty good - better than unrooted GB was in fact. Simply freezing bloatware via titanium and limiting sync on some (not all) apps and services makes a gigantic difference. Design your phone around your own needs and you'll end up with an amazing device that you'll fall in love with all over again.
Sent from my gnote as always
Hi All,
I see my self as a hobby flasher. I generally flash my phone 1-2 times every 2 weeks as I'm always unsatisfied by the performance/batt life.
Generally speaking I believe I have tried most roms. I like new project, well knowing that these often is not as optimized as the well tried roms that have been in "production" for many months. But I have some questions popping up, that I would like an answer to.
1. Is it only me, or has all Cyanogen 10.1 roms generally speaking a bad performance? I tried seveal performance kernels, but this rarely helps. If my phone is not randomly freezing, things like google now and chrome have problems. Either it is okay performance wise, or the batterylife is horrible.
2. Batt life. I have now had my note just above one year. Like 13 months or so. In the beginning the battery life was descent. On close to every XDA rom I have tried the batterylife is really short. Surfing on my phone for 1 hours eats a LOT of battery and my phone gets warm. Of cause the factory roms "knows" all the hardware secrets, and are able to produce an optimized rom, but until now I am to be positively surprised about battery usage in any user rom. Any advice? Recently I have disabled location settings/latitude etc, and this have helped some (obviously) but can it be that the built in google features take that much battery? Betterbatterystats confirms that google location services uses a LOT of juice. Are your experience the same?
3. Is the chrome browser that bad? - I use it mainly as I use chrome on my computer and I have all the book marks, but I think it keeps freezing. Generally speaking I think it is okay, but it is by far the app I use that freezes/FC most. Is your experience the same? What browser do you use?
4. What is your Rom/Kernel setup? It will have to offer good (maybe not great) performance, but will have to have great (not good) batterylife.
Looking forward to your replies.
-Benjamin
Anybody?
1. > on CM10.1 and battery is great, and very smooth.
2. > location services do use a lot of juice. i have it as disabled as well.., Notes battery doesnt seem to last more that 10-11 months.. lot of people were able to get good performance of new batteries.
3. > stock browser works best for me
4. > CM10.1 .. its own kernel... have used angry rom VT1 as well.. good..
