Have you guys gotten your invite to Music Beta yet? I signed up during the live cast of IO but haven't seen my invite yet. Just curious. The way it's described makes me want it so bad that I'm actually willing to pay! ... I KNOW!
They said Motorola Xoom owners were getting in first, then others could/would be invited in during the beta...
I don't think anyone on anything except the Xoom is in yet.
Ah. Ok. That makes sense. Thanks.
I had a Xoom build.Prop Once
I just got an invite today. It Said Hi Xoom Owner you are invited to the beta,
However I am having problems installing it on my Gtab (now running VegaN Ginger)
Error message is regarding a package signing problem
the Original email:
Hello Motorola XOOM user,
We'd like to tell you about some changes to the Music player on your tablet. The latest app update now supports Music Beta, a new service from Google. As a Verizon Motorola XOOM user, you’ve been extended an early invitation to beta test this service.

I wonder why I am having issues with the install. Which music app did you have on the tab prior to the install the standard ginger (blue speaker) or both the ginger and honeycomb (golden speaker) I have both installed, and wonder if that is my problem.
I just download the one on the market and integrated it to my rom, deleting the old one. The one I'm using has a black/orange headphones icon, not a speaker.
Works on Vegan 7 rc1....
edit: sorry for the lack of detail. I downloaded the APK from another site. Previously used Titanium Pro 3.8.1+ to convert the stock music app from system to user (I have since eliminated it from my VRC1 entirely. Then side loaded the new music app and converted it to system. Alternatively, can just delete the old one through adb.
Success. Had to uninstall the HC (Honeycomb) music app to allow the new music app to install. Time to test the beta on the tab.
got my google music invite last night, and loving it so far works great in my browser, on my OG droid and and my gtab running vegan ginger gotta love google.
I didnt get my invite yet.

I had a fake build.prop from the Xoom for a few day. The build.prop was a failure as i didnt really see a significant difference in the market, however it did get me a Xoom invite by google.
Is there any way you could post your. Sorry - weekends are too busy. But yes, the following can be done with an adb shell command, and is cheaper, as root explorer is a paid app. Make sure you remount the file system as read write, or pull and push the file.
So after having many issues with USB booting I used and FTP to transfer the file to my laptop used Ubuntu text editor to edit the code .... I broke down and bougt root file explorer and it took about 30 seconds 'thx for all your help I'm now typing on my xoom gtab

Please hold on for next release, this one has expired.
Andro Shark is an android packet sniffing app. It dumps all (wifi and/or 3g) traffic into a standard pcap file in /sdcard/androshark. This file can be read with wireshark, or any other application able to read pcap files.
This is the March 3rd version. This is the first public beta, so expect bugs. I will not be held responsible for damage or loss due to any software. My standard license applies, http://www.andirc.net/2010/04/standard-license-agreement.html.
To use Andro Shark you must agree to the above license.

Sorry, yes requires root.
crap oh well, thanks. Hopefully they can root 2.1 leaks soon.
No root here so I can't test it, but just a few thoughts.
Is there a way to specify a capture filter in the program? Something ala libpcap's filters "IP 192.168.1.1".
Does it get killed by the task manager if left idle for a while?
Any way to view the .pcap output on the device?
nindoja, Its based on tcpdump, and if memory manager kills it tcpdump keeps running. Its a bug and I have fixed it. I just need to get it all packaged an uploaded sometime.\
Burko,
After i have the capture part done, I will look into that.

Possibly, I will update it this weekend. Possibly ad the ability to browse packets, or filter packets. Depends on my time. Do you happen to have autokiller or any memory management app setup?
Please report your device, and ROM back to me.

Shocked people are actually using this lol.
Guess i have to actually polish it?
I will hop on it soon as I release my adblocker (this weekend?).
Polish it ? Distribute it. Dude, you would be the first to make an packet capture app (that uses tcpdump of course).

Hi,
FYI, I tested it and it works perfectly on my rooted Desire.
Thanks for your work!
As you requested some ideas for new features:

Checkbox to append the datetime (several sessions without the need to rename the previous one)
Cheers,

Like many other users, I want to be able to sync my nook color with my work's exchange server. Unfortunately, the default email.apk wouldn't work for me. There is a well documented issue with Android 2.2 and its handling of security certificates... but I digress.
So, what's the fix? Well I found the fix here: http://laur.ie/blog/2010/09/exchange-2010-sp1-sync-with-android-froyo/
But I've saved you a trip and pasted the (slightly revised) instructions below.
Download the 2.2 stock Email.apk from here using the browser on your nook:
http://denness.net/Email.apk
[File is also attached]
Don’t attempt to install it, let it go in to your download folder on your SD card. The instructions below assume the file is in your /download folder on your SD card.
Open a terminal on your device. I use Terminal Emulator. (Type exactly what appears after "Run:" and hit enter)
Run: su
Run: mount -o remount,rw /system
Run: mv /system/app/Email.apk /sdcard/backup_Email.apk
Run: cp /sdcard/download/Email.apk /system/app
Reboot for good measure
Set up your sync, and enjoy a refreshing beverage
for your hard work
Nobody else had this problem?
eclair fix?
I had this problem on eclair/stock rom. Do you know of a fix for eclair?
Thanks it almost worked for me. I was able to add a exchange 2010 account. But it won't actually sync. Before I could only add a 2007 acount. So close, thinking I could try the email.apk from my Captivate?

Surprised that this would even work, I'd think it'd need more framework or other files. but I'm willing to give it a go.
Although honestly I don't think it'll help me, I don't think 2.2 supports the Exchange security that my works new Google Apps implementation requires. They keep saying "iPhone only, no other phones work". I still bet that Sense and Touchdown would work, but stock Android is missing some features.

The thing is, its only this build I have had this problem. The stock 2.1 and HC works. Also my Captivate on 2.2 works as well. Something with this build and exchange 2010. I checked the server but nothing made a difference. I played with imap/pop3 settings and tried to use that.
I wish I could port over the HC email app, that one is sweet. I can't for HC to be AOSP!

I'm curious to try it. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be compatible with the G Tablet, but then again I'm no expert. I think it is supposed to work with DropBox for swapping drawings back and forth, not sure what else will work with it.
Anyone else following this?

Well this is just GREAT. The app won't install to the g-tablet !!
I installed it just fine on my phone. If I could find it, I'd try to copy it over to the g-tab... but I can't locate it on the phone, it doesn't show up in apps. Wonder where it could be ??
I will have to dig around and see if I can find it. Crappity.
I did take a page out of Roebeet's book ... I have tweeted AutCAD WS and asked if there is an alternate place to download the application. Hopefully I'll get results as good as he did!
Solved
Solved - in case anyone cares to know.
Here's how I went around the back way to install:
1. Install AutoCAD WS to an Android phone.
2. Use Titanium Backup to backup the application to the sdcard.
3. Connect phone to PC as a USB drive; copy three files to PC. The are a Properties file, a zipped .tar file and a zipped .apk file.
4. Unzip the two zipped files on the PC.
5. Connect the G-Tablet to the PC as a USB drive. Copy the properties file, the .tar file and the .apk files to /system/apps. Note that the latter two must be unzipped.
6. Use a file explorer to install AutoCAD WS on the G Tablet.
I tested it by opening the sample drawings and it was fine. It also recognizes drawings sent as email attachments and will open those.

Ditto for me. Friend of mine tried it on his Gtab, same ROM, it installed it to his phone (from the web market), even though he selected his tab.
Anyone else notice that "pinch to zoom" only works with your fingers horizontal, not vertical? Happens in most apps for me, including this.
I don't see the appeal of having a CAD application on a touch device like this. For viewing, sure, but for content creation it seems much more painful than a traditional CAD setup.

Bingo! Now I just need to convince my employer to let me bring my tablet into work (stupid security at defense contractors)
keep in mind, there are people who do autocad in the "field" .. For instance at my previous job, the field surveyors would create dxf's in real time with their data collectors. Being able to look at the file before leaving the site would help for those 5 shots they forgot to shoot.. Not to mention they could email the point file and dxf and proceed to the next job without visiting the office again..
I think those data collectors are meant to connect to PC's; not sure if they would connect to the G-Tab. It would be awesome if they did.

I can only speak for the units i did IT support for, but they were the industry standard data collectors.
yes, they are designed to connect to pc's via db9 to usb, or bluetooth
however, the data collectors communicated with the total station and gps stations via bluetooth. It's not hard to do a bluetooth file transfer from the data collector to another device..
Hell, i even sent a file from a data collector through a nextel i530 (i believe that's the model #)
you don't know hell until you've operated a $4,000, 206 MHz, Windows CE 3.0, 4.1" 320x240 monochrome resistive screen with a kick butt 32mb of ram when it's 5 degrees outside ... On the plus side, it did have a built in screen heater so that the screen would work down to -22 deg(f) !
This app looks pretty useful as is but it doesn't look like it will allow the creation of new documents on the tablet, only viewing or editing of already created and uploaded ones. Or did I just not find it?
At any rate, even as things stand this will be a huge benefit to me in my quest to make my tablet a bigger value to me while I'm in the field on project start ups.
Now I just need to get off my butt and get started on that field/trip report app...

I work for the developer Loud Crow Interactive Inc. and we build book apps for kids.
We've recently launched into the Android Market and are having trouble with our app being installed on rooted nook colors. The issues appear to be on the licensing side.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be? Also, what does a rooted nook register as (device) on the Android Market place,
Thanks in advance,

What's the error, logcat ?, what's the app?

We are all waiting for an answer. I have an outstanding request in with Google that I have had to update several times as they seem to be dancing around the question. When and if I hear I will post a response.
The App is "The Going to Bed Book" or "PopOut! The Tale of Peter Rabbit" - Our users are getting a "Invalid License" error. We're going to root one of our nooks soon to do some testing, but until then we were thinking we might be able to get something from the forums. Both users who reported the issue were running CM7, which I also run on my HTC IS, and runs our apps fine. Thus we're thinking it could have something to do with the device ID running against the licenses?
As we set up restrictions by device, We were curious what a rooted NC running CM7 would show as in terms of a device on the Android Market place?
Thanks for the help guys, and thanks for the patience. I'm not the actual Android developer on the team. He's out of the office for the week,
Cheers,
Tom
I think he means he is having trouble getting the application to install from the market in general. I looked up the applications and the NC was not a supported device.
I don't want to pay the money to download it to my phone and sideload it (I'm at work anyways). I don't know much about applications and how devices are determined to be compatible other than maybe their permissions. However, these applications (there are two on the market), don't require anything other than SD access.

If u want to know more take a look at build.prop, people have uploaded it in netflix thread, which reminds me that a lot of users usually change their device and fake it to run different apps.

Those were direct quotes from what Google's filters picked up when I sent an email while logged in to the market.
Thanks guys, this will be a good start. If and when we resolve the issue I'll be sure to post an update with the details. I really wish Android Market supported promo codes; we'd love to be able to throw out some free copies for you guys to have a look at and test for these one off issues.
Thanks Again!
I assume if you sideload the .apk it will install fine?
Just want to contribute that I have the Going to Bed Book installed and running fine on my Nook. I am still running CM7 7.1RC, and have my build.prop spoofed for Netflix (no longer required, but I never changed it back and haven't flashed a new CM7 in a while). The only change I made in build.prop was setting the manufacturer to HTC.
The book runs great and is my son's new favorite app.
You may have an issue using get.DeviceID()... have one of your users use my IMEI generator and see if it fixes their problem. They can also spoof Manufacture, Device and Model with the newest version.
IMEI Generator Thread.
I have it on my CM7 (7.0.3 to lazy to update, running off sd no changes to build.prop) Nook and it works fine. My daughter loves it.
Some of the pages are kind of hard to register a turn, and it always starts upsidedown then flips itself over. But both of those things are the same on my incredible 2 as well.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
When the HD comes out, could somebody rip the Amazon Instant Video app apk and post it on xda?
The reason: Old app only works on Gingerbread. The new one should work on ICS and JB because the new Kindle Fire's OS is based on ICS.
Was just about to post a thread over here, we has one going on the old KF forums. ES File Explorer is on the Amazon market and should be able to read the /system/app directory without root. Really hoping this apk works on other ICS/JB devices.
An update bin file was posted and I grabbed the apk file from that. So far no luck, it FCs on my Touchpad with CM9. I tried installing as a regular app making sure Voodoo had me unrooted. I also tried as a system apk and rebooted, still FCs. It refuses to install on GB so I imagine its using API Level 15.
Hopefully it just needs another apk installed, Ill play around with it and see if I can get it working.
EDIT: I installed aLogcat to see if I could narrow down what is causing the FC. Its looking for the class "amazon.unifiedsettings.UnifiedSettingsHelper" which doesn't exist. Later in the log the FC is caused by a fatal exception with the class "amazon/unifiedsettings/UnidifedSettingsHelper" not being found. Is this a lib file or a system apk it wants?
EDIT2: I gave up on it for now. I tried some lib files, tried installing as many apks as I could (didn't try replacing system apks). It still FCs with the same error log and I can't find any files that reference unified settings. I also downloaded the Kindle Fire 2 update file (the updated original fire) and its using the same APK. LCD Density for the HD is 240 and 160 for the regular Fire 2. I use 160 on my Touchpad so that shouldn't be the issue.
How does one get apks out of Amazon's .bins?
com.amazon.dcp.apk
MyAccount-unsigned.apk
AccountAndSyncSettings.apk
These are the three extra apks (in addition to video apk itself) I needed to get it running on my Nook Tablet back in the day. I noticed back then that it seemed to work a little different for everyone. Some folks didn't need any of those while others of us experienced all manner of crashing without some of them. Sadly, one also forced my NT to appear as a KF in the Amazon app store, which made some of my purchased apps incompatible. Caveat emptor.
Would love to see those posted though if someone gets around to it. Would also love to see Amazon get their rear in gear and release a prime streaming app for android that didn't require all the fuss.
The bin files open for me in WinRAR, I think they are just zip files. AccountAndSyncSettings.apk is gone from the new Kindle Fires, the other two files are still there. I remember using those 3 files before allowed you to add an Amazon account and then open the app and you would already be logged in. With the new 2 files, it FCs in settings when I try to add an Amazon account. I didn't try using the old GB apks, it may be worth a try as they allowed an Amazon account to be added even on ICS.
I'll upload them, there is only 2 now, because you may have a different outcome than me on a different device.
No luck on a simple side load to an Acer A700 or an Acer A100 both stock and unrooted running ICS. I am reluctant to try the other apk's because I also had my a100 appear as a kindle fire and had to restore it to get use of my apps that were not kindle compatible.
I was messing around on my Touchpad with CWM so I always have the option to restore a nandroid if I were to screw something up. But I played around with it a lot this morning and didn't do any damage, everything was FCing.
No luck on Nexus 7. Tried after installing all three apk.

I too am looking to stream amazon on my cm9_tp but did not see anyone mention the fact it works perfectly on WebOs.

I will work through a flash capable browser with a desktop user agent in Android as well, but its not optimized very well for mobile devices. The app is much nicer when it works. At this point we may be better off trying to get the GB version working in ICS since it will at least open and let you browse.
In addition to a better UI in the app, I've also experienced intermittent, albeit minor, audio sync issues with mobile flash that I never had in the app. I hate that.
can someone with a kindle fire hd open up the app and then post the log? Wouldn't we be able to see where the unifiedsettingshelper file was with the log of it opening successfully?
Any update on this?

We need a Fire HD user or somebody with more knowledge of how things work to figure out where we can get "amazon.unifiedsettings.UnifiedSettingsHelper" from. This is the missing service it crashes on. I can't find any lib files or apks from the ROM that fix this issue. Also even if we get past this crash error another one may appear. At this point I'm thinking we may be better off trying to get the old GB app working since it seems to have fewer issues. It allows you to open and browse to videos on ICS, also allows you to add your Amazon account to the device, but crashes when you go to play a video. Its having a database issue according to the crash log posted over in the GB thread:

could amazon.unifiedsettings.UnifiedSettingsHelper be part of one of the odex files in system/app ?
It will be fantastic once this can be resolved. I hate that they are allowing this on iOS but not on other android devices.
Yes, it is absurd that iPad has access and general android devices are SOL. We purchased our content...and can't watch it reliably (app access). I would encourage everyone to let amazon know this is unacceptable - and I'm hopeful the good people here find a fix for us in the mean time.

I tried giving Amazon some feedback on supporting other Android devices - they didn't seem to care much. I guess they want to sell more Fires, but if they're selling them at a loss wouldn't they make more profit by supporting their app on other devices?
Our how about, I purchased my kindle to read, purchased a tablet before the fire was a gleam in their eye.
I purchase video content and have limited access to it, so i won't purchase future content with amazon as a result.
No I won't buy a fire and I am encouraged to buy my future content through Google play on top of that!
Loss, loss, and more loss for Amazon. Doesn't make sense.
Sorry for side tracking the thread, I will end the QQ

Yup. Of course they aren't going to listen to any one complaint, but Amazon is a pretty responsive company on the whole. Squeak enough and they'll grease the wheels. There's no indication they want to make this fire-only, given how many other devices its on, it's just a question of priority. You can bet the apple people whined more than the android people, so if you want them to get it in gear get on their contact page and make the request. I've done it repeatedly, but we need more people to get noticed.
