We both Have HD7's on O2 in the UK and we both have Mango RTM leaked on our phones.
This morning she was notified that there was an HTC update for her phone, after installing it she now has new radio and firmware. Quite a bit newer than mine.
I can't force mine to get the update and the only difference between the two phones is that mine has bootloader version 1.*** and hers has version 4.***. Could this be the reason I have not got the update?
Or would that have been updated by HTC? (I did force install NODO on mine and think I needed to change the bootloader then)
Am I destined to never get another update? Can I change my bootlloader? Any help much appreciated.
All RTM and Normal WP7 phones will get the Update regardless, its just that MS does them in batches and your wife's phone was the lucky one in the first batch.
You can try force the update in Zune with the disconnecting trick.
Just have patience as all phones will be updated by end November.
So it has nothing to do with the provisioning of the device from when I updated from the beta servers for beta2?
In addition to all this, Connection setup will not run. So I uninstalled it and now I cannot install it again because it says it is not designed for my device in the marketplace. Why is that?
HTC HUB and some applications seem to be affected if you update from RTM to the Official HTC one
THe work around I found was to 'FACTORY RESET' your Phone after the HTC Update.
To HARD RESET your Phone
http://www.hard-reset.com/htc-hd7-hard-reset.html
Thank you for all your advice.
But do you think this would prohibit me from recieveing the firmware update?
At various points my Focus S seems to lose the ability to use it's data connection- either Wifi or 3G. I can't work out why- has anyone else experienced this? Web pages don't load, etc.
I installed a patch that allowed me to use Internet Sharing, I'm concerned this might have been the cause of it...
I've found that if I do not reboot my phone at least once a day I get random problems like that.

I don't reboot my phone all that often. I've never seen it lose ALL data connection capability tho...
A regular power cycle doesn't hurt tho...
Can this be the issue?
I'm experiencing the same thing, but mainly when I'm connected to 3G. My phone shows it has full bars and 3G or 4G availability but I find 60% of the time my phone has little to no data going to my phone, so none of my apps or news feeds get updated or they get updated slowly. When I'm on wifi the phone works flawlessly.
I read this article,
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/hack-fixes-mms-on-unlocked-samsung-wp7-handsets
One of the odder quirks of Windows Phone 7 to appear since the platform's launch has been the absence of Automatic Data Configuration for users who swap SIM chips and network-hop with their unlocked handsets.
ADC should let the phone communicate with the network it's connected to in order to retrieve all the settings it needs in order to use the network's services. Samsung defended disabling ADC by saying that its phones are intended to only be used with a specific carrier
Now I know this is talking about MMS, but does anyone think it's related to 3G connectivity from a different service provider?
i am having the same problem, it started 2 days ago after i unlocked my phone, at&t gave me the unlock code, i had to enable hot spot & de brand by loading a file, i don't have problem with WiFi just 4G, it will be fixed if i re start the phone.
problem for me with wifi+3G
Not sure if this is the same as the OP. I run with both WiFi and 3G enabled most of the time. Basically everything will be working fine for a while, then I'll try to open a web page from Twitter and it will time out. Sometimes retrying will work, but it will take an abnormally long time to load the page. Other times it never works, and when I go to another app (e.g. mail) and try to sync, and that will also time out. When that happens I usually turn off either WiFi or 3G, then toggle the state of the one I left on (e.g. turn 3G off, then back on), and it clears up. I've never needed to reboot the phone. I don't have ICS enabled, but my phone is fully unlocked.
I've guessed this problem was caused by a lost or bad connection on one of the wireless protocols (like WiFi), where the phone thinks it is connected to WiFi and won't switch over to the other protocol (3G).
One more thing: I'm running 8107 and I don't remember this issue occurring before the upgrade.

I have the EXACT same issue as you state here. The problem has existed since day one with this phone. I updated through to 8107 and the issues still exist.
So now for some interesting/good news... my dad works for a large company that has direct access to AT&T Wireless Engineers, so he got in contact with an an engineer and explained this issue as both him and I experience the same issues. The engineer was able to get a hold of a Samsung Focus S and experienced the same problems for himself. He then escalated the issue directly to Samsung who in-turn escalated this to Microsoft. Apparently Microsoft claimed the issue was theirs and they are now working on an update to rectify the problem. Samsung also apparently has some updates that they were going to push but have since held off on pushing them until Microsoft has the fix for this data issue fixed.
I've been so frustrated by these issues and the lack of information regarding them that I thought you might be interested in knowing that Samsung, Microsoft, and AT&T ARE working to get the problem resolved.
Wow! This is really great news as I am having the exact same problem. I usually just on and back off Airplane mode and that fixes it, but its a real hassle. So, the word is that Samsung is, possibly, combining all the current issues like this data, the extra settings/quirky display, and the 8107/disappearing keyboard all in to one?
matt
The AT&T engineer didn't say what was going to be included in the Samsung update, just that Samsung was holding off on releasing the update until after Microsoft supplied a fix for the data issues. Hopefully Samsung's update fixes all of the Focus S quirks (data issues, delayed keyboard sounds, quirky display/auto brightness) in one shot.
Thanks for posting this, i feel better that Microsoft & Samsung are working on fixing this issue.
Any updates/news about this specific issue? I have the exact issue with my Focus S since I got my phone
I too have been having this issue and still haven't found a solution. I hope Samsung and Microsoft come up with a solution soon because it is very irritating.

Am I mistaken...but the majority of people posting in this thread, have the problem after installing something non standard?
8107 is not released by Samsung/AT&T, so the possibility that an associated file is not included, does exist.
Was the hotspot patch and official release, or was it intended for sideload or something?
I'm just curious. I had the luxary to have my Dell Venue Pro sent to Microsoft and examined by the Test and OEM team for WP. This was several months ago. They were able to determine I had used the force update trick to update my Device. From pieces of various emails, I was able determine the update included multiple files. The multiple files consisted of Device specific instructions and additional files needed for the that operator, in addition to the Update provided by MS.
If this is the case, forcing an update into place may indeed load the update, but it might not include other needed files.
Now, I'm not an expert, a dev or anything else important. I cannot validate that what I said is true. But, i do have the benefit of having my older device looked at by MS several months ago. This does not prove 2+2=4. But it does raise enough doubt in my mind that I won't be foruce updating my devices until alot more people get a look at this methodology and perhaps come up with some answers, or at least explanations.
Does the internet connection issue appear only after the forced 8107 update?
I had been using a Chevron-unlocked Samsung Focus S on the 7720 and had experienced no issues. Just updated to 8107 following Heathcliff74's method so I hope this issue doesn't start to plague me.
Also, has anyone had success with voluptuary's wifi internet connection sharing and interop-unlock method? I am hesitant to apply that hack exactly because of worries about issues with internet...
I'm a big chicken. I am just going to wait for AT&T to release the update. I just have this funny feeling that there's a little something extra included with the at&t update. I've done plenty of customizing over the years, but just have a feeling about this. I do wish they would step on it, though.

when I said extra, I meant a focus s specific file that might act as a customization or configuration file. I don't think a block file of any sort might be included. But I do know that at&t is proprietary enough to want a unique identifier of some sort. In Gen 1, at&t had special builds just for them, turning on or off features. I know the hd7 had a specific 'config' type file, as did the venue pro. Would I call these extra files? No. I would call them required files. Build 8107 was a single build for WP. Do you think that all phones with mango had the same needs, samex files, same configs? Or is it possible that a related file acted as a config or control.
I'm not smart enough to know for sure. My gut says...maybe. .

Was pleased to get the update today... 3 updates in total...
Lovin the new homescreen... :good:
Also, the new colours are great... Even the old colours look better (red/orange)... They really have body, like an amoled without an amoled...
No "Trick", no Tool...
Just go to Zune and ... hey there's an UPDATE.
Love new Homescreen.
And my Lumia 710 just wait for it.
Does this mean the HD7s will get it too?
The relation between this 2 models confuses me and I couldn't find a hd7s specific forum
(Maybe I'm a n00b... Like the ones mentioned in the video haha)
The trick method with zune (pulling out the cable) didn't work for me for the last two days, but I had to do a hard reset on the phone and changed the system locale to English (Canada), and that seemed to get the update done - I had seen a bunch of Canadians getting the update, so I tried this and it worked!
US T-Mobile HD7 upgrade to 7.8
Has anyone gotten upgrade to 7.8 on their phone?
I tried the disconnect method, but no joy.
Use Seven-Eighter, it worked for me.
Don't forget to select all languages you have installed to update.
Spanish HD7 updated to 7.8!
Hi, I just wanna share my experience with you:
NOTE 1: First of all, try a normal update on Zune without doing any special trick, Many people is updating the device without any special action!
NOTE 2: There are some data consumption related bugs. Check them here.
This has been my experience:
There are 3 updates to install, as previously mentioned: 7.10.8779.8 --> 7.10.8783.12 --> 7.10.8858.136
These are the steps to follow on each update, taken from several posts over the net as this:
1) Disconnect WiFi and other data connections on the device.
2) Connect device to Zune
3) Go to settings->phone->update
4) While searching for updates for the device count to 5 and disconnect internet on your computer (WiFi, ethernet, whatever...).
5) Wait about 30 seconds for the Zune response.
6) If "no updates available" or "error searching" or similar response is shown, go to another option in the left menu and then repeat the process from step 3. If "update found", go to Step 7.
7) Reconnect Internet access (ethernet, WiFi...) on your computer (not the phone).
8) Follow instructions to install the update
Some notes:
- I have spent more than 15 tries to make Zune show the update. It depends on Internet/computer response when searching to Microsoft update servers. If 5 seconds don't work for you, try changing the wait time. In my case, started with 1 second, then 2, then 3... 5 resulted to be the perfect one. The second and third update only used 3 search attemps. Using wireshark may help, look at instructions explained by user "medeis" on a comment in this page: here.
- 1st update is very slow, the second and the third is much faster (no backup required as in first).
- Repeat this procedure for every update (3 in total).
It worked for me on my unbranded HTC HD7 from Spain. It runs very smoothly, but nothing special apart from the new tiles (ok, great), accent colors (unnecessary, don't know why I can't choose one from a color picker...) and lock screen (my child is more beautiful thant any bing image...)
Cheers,
xdomingo
i think , removing simcard ! is only thing we need. works for me in first hours 7.8 coming ...

Question for anyone who streams music over bluetooth; how is the sound quality? In previous versions, audio bitrates were purposely crippled in the registry and it sounded awful. Did they fix that? Zune has started to badger me about this update as well, and I'm tempted to update. I'm running a modded firmware just to get around the bluetooth issue and don't want to update if it's just going to get me crappy sound quality again...
Three apps installed themselves without my intervention:
Cookie Jam
Drippler
RetailMeNot
They didn't come preinstalled, but just installed themselves today. I was able to uninstall them but they keep coming back.
Any idea what's going on? They do not show up under My Apps in the play store, but I can uninstall them through settings. I did a factory reset and didn't install anything and they still come back.
Mine just did the same thing also. Just got it two days ago too. I've uninstalled them now, and they haven't come back yet, but that is disturbing if you say gotta keeps coming back.
Forgot to mention this, I've already disabled the other app stores except for the Google play store.
Just happened to me as well. Thought I was the victim of some new exploit.
This just happened to me, and it is driving me nuts. I think I tracked it down to a program called DTIgnite. Somehow, a sight I visited or a link I clicked installed this program which essentially gives the controller a backdoor to install anything they want. I dont recall it being in the file directory before, but its there now and it survives a factory reset. Mine started doing it yesterday and I have done about 2 dozen factory resets trying to narrow down the problem I was able to determine that it only downloads these programs (the same thee mentioned) when the sim card is inserted. Without the sim card, and with an active wifi connection, it does not do it. The moment it gets a carrier signal, it begins downloading those three apps in the background. I went to tomobile and got a new sim card, and it still does it, but not if I put the sim card in a different phone. So it lies within my note 4 not my account or the sim card. Furthermore, if you factory reset without the simcard, DTIgnite does not appear in the file directory. Once it is inserted, DTIGnite downloads itself and then these three programs. This leads me to believe that what ever site I visited or clicked on, rooted my phone. Because, how else would it survive a reset unless it was in the root directory?
Now DTIgnite is an app developed by a firm that tries to market its capabilities to carriers in order to give them backdoor access to phones. I think its possible someone licensed the software and repurposed it to install bloat ware of their own for third party companies for profit.
In anycase, because of my work, I cannot have a compromised phone and must replace it now. Thinking about contacting a lawyer and seeing what can be done to the company that makes DTIgnite

IDIgnite is indeed the problem. I reformated without the Sim, and then without logging into any account I checked the app manager. Within, is DTIgnite, but once it is "turned off" you can insert the sim card and it will not resinstall those three programs. However, this app is not preinstalled which means each one of us clicked on a link that silently downloaded it. Furthermore, I suspect it has been placed in a safe partition on the device or on the ROOT directory itself because it survives a factory reset.
I dont know how to check if my device is rooted, but when I boot in recovery mode it lists me in # manual mode# and I seem to remember the # symbol was significant in the root determination discussion. Again, I am no expert on the matter; so, I can be completly off base here. I recomend you research my findings on your device to see if they are compromised as well.
Now, I just contacted Mandelay Digital, the publically traded company that authors DT Ignite, and let them know that on monday I will consult an attourney regarding there neglegent distribution of their software and have requested they provide steps to uninstall. after my discussion with an attourney, I may come back here to post information regarding a class action if it is feasible.

It's really not a big deal.
For starters, a random piece of adware did NOT root your device. In order to root, you would need to run commands and codes into your device using a program called ODIN, and unless your phone rebooted, showed a red system menu, then rebooted itself again, it was not rooted. You would also have a root access application like SuperSU or SuperUser.
*****
There's 2 ways to go about fixing the adware...
1. Factory Reset, THEN ODIN back to factory stock, the files (from root accessed files and normal files alike) will be entirely resetted to how the stock .img was created.
2. (Easier way) Root, use Titanium and uninstall the adware application causing the problem. Seeing as I've never had adware on my device, I feel this way would only be a temporary fix.
Needless to say, fix #1 is preffered.
If this is an issue for you (novice problems might I add), use an antivirus designed for your device. There are multiple options in the Play Store.
And a side note for ya, this will not stand up in court, this wouldn't even make it to court; in any way possible. If a lawyer had a nickel for anyone who has ever had adware on their devices that was trying to take a company to court to get some kind of settlement or resolution, lawyers would be very rich people.
You visited a site that infected your device with adware. (Probably pornographic). You'll be wasting your time and money. Based on the fact that you went to the extent to call them and threaten them is even worse, almost childish. They don't care, they probably get calls like that all day, every day.
This is not some random anomaly, it's a virus that was installed into your device due to your Internet browsing / downloading habits.
*****
When you see **** on the ground, rather than yelling at it and rolling around in it, just pick it up and be done.
Same thing happened to me today. I formatted the phone using TWRP and reinstalled stock using Odin. The sim was still in the phone. As soon as the phone connected to the cell network these apps came back!
Next try was to reflash stock with the sim out. The apps were not there. After routing the phone I uninstalled /system/priv-app/Ignite_TMO.apk which is the package for IDIgnite. Thankfully, these apps have not returned since.
What I found odd was that even stock image did not remove these. I did ensure that the microsd card was also not present in the phone so these apps are definitely stored in the internal partition somewhere.
Why are we assuming this is an exploit rather than something T-Mobile shipped in a recent ROM update or in the original image in order to install these bloatware apps?
I think it might be in the ank4, because I just got these when flashing an ank4 Rom.
I know for sure I didn't have them before.

Unauthorized Apps Downloaded to T-Mobile Samsung Note 4.
I have a T-Mobile Samsung Note 4 which updated on Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Just a few minutes ago, I turned my phone off, then turned it on again and noticed on the status/notification bar a triangle with exclamation mark... and when I pulled down screen it was for 2 apps warning that these apps have high permissions. I did not add these apps and when I looked at my apps I noticed the same 3 listed here were installed on my phone. Cookie Jam (high permissions), RetailMeNot (high permissions) and Drippler. I uninstalled from the Google Play Store. Before uninstalling, I planned to give a 1 star review for all 3 apps downloaded on my phone informing people of these apps, but there was no option for me to review these apps although these apps have reviews from other users. I didn't pay attention to the first two that I uninstalled but when I selected uninstall for the Drippler app, there was a warning "This app was not installed by Google Play Store. Do you want to Uninstall it". After this happened I did uncheck the "Unknown Sources" box under the security option for third party apps. I'm very disappointed that this has happened. I have had too much trouble with this phone and really feel that it was a waste of purchase. The first one I bought was broken and this is the second one exchanged in the store and it has many issues. I only downloaded 1 app (MOOC app) a few hours before this happened, but these didn't download until after I turned my phone off, then back on. The MOOC app listed links to several MOOCs online, and only had 4 reviews. If these same apps are being downloaded to other T-Mobile Note 4 users could this be from a link or a problem with the phone. What are the chances of several people accessing the same link? Does this mean the phone is hacked? If the "Unknown Sources" box is checked, will this stop the downloads without permission? Someone please help. This is an edited response to the above-written. After I wrote the response, I picked up my phone and noticed the Virus Scanner (CM Security) icon was in status bar. It showed there was 1 vulnerability called BroadAnywhere. I searched it on Google and found that it is a very bad virus... Once the virus was cleaned from my phone it seems to be working well. It hasn't been long but so far it seems ok and the apps haven't come back, nor the permissions (which did come back once after deleting apps) and well as a couple other things before the virus scan. Hopefully this will clear the problem. If not, I'll give update.

First of all, thank you.* Despite your tone it was helpful and reassuring. I have never rooted before and am unfamiliar with the process. If you're willing, I have a few questions that perhaps you can point me in the right direction.
I would like to root and get rid of some applications in general so this isnt exactly off the table, but I would like to begin with a clean factory stock image.
If I do the first method, can I leave it rooted afterwards, or will the act of installing a clean factory stock image unroot the device again?
Also, can you provide a link to a site that offers detailed and trusted steps for either process? Searching google provides several dozen sites each with slightly different methods; what method did you use?
Regarding the tone and assumptions: You do make a lot of assumptions, and you do ooze an air of superiority in your response. I can respect that; this is, afterall your expertise. I just dont think its needed for people to respect your opinion. Assumptions, on the other hand, just lead to people being dismissive of your remarks all together. Its my job to look past assumptions, so they dont bother me much.
Regarding a lawsuite: I live in California and Mandelay Digital is based in California as well. In California you can (edited) sue someone for just about anything: bad thoughts, dressing poorly, beverage too hot etc (all real cases). If there is money to be had, a Lawyer will find a way. Mandelay is publically traded and the author of the software being used; there is incentive there. I will let the attourney make the decision.
Anyway, thank you for your initial response, and any further help you can provide.

Looks like I responded too early and should have read the new developments on the thread. It is possible my phone updated thanksgiving and I wasnt aware of it. I did change the battery mid afternoon for family pictures and such, and I noticed the apps (through app2sd notification about some of them being campatible with moving to the SD card) after it booted back up. I just did not see anything about a software update.
With that being said, I suppose it is fairly harmless, though I do not like the idea of such a direct and quite backdoor to installing apps on my phone. I agreed to the initial presinstalled apps, and I am sure somewhere in the initial agreements I may have agreed to unfettered access to my device's selection of apps, but I would still like a more obvious warning of this capability.
I figured it was something that T-Mobile or Samsung had to have snuck in on one of their updates. Luckily I got my phone right before we went on a trip for Thanksgiving. So I haven't had much time to play with it or even Root it yet. I was able to go through all my Apps in the application manager and clear data/turn off all of the apps that I don't want or use, and I haven't had anything reinstall itself without my approval. I have also unticked the unknown sources option, so maybe that helped as well.
I would normally agree that it was some site that performed a drive - by installation, but I haven't used my phone for anything other than taking pictures, and asking Google for directions around Nashville since I got it on Wednesday.
I will definitely be rooting and probably flashing a new rom as soon as I get home though. Having Random apps installed without me knowing is no fun at all.
I've had the new update since the day it was released and never had this problem.
Very disturbing. This is the rights for DT Ignite which is now built into the rom after taking the last update. Did a hard reset and now is part of the rom. Nothing loaded and just logged into the phone. The community should be very upset about T-Mobile sneaking this malware on our phones!
Let me be clear that this is after a hard reset without logging into google, Samsung or a Web page. This crapware is now part of the device if you took the last update.

Yes if you use the first method, it will unroot your device. (If it's rooted, that is. )
I am making a guide but got tied up yesterday, the guide will be up in about 2-3 hours. I will link it here when it's done.

Here ya go, guide is live.
As you know, the WP8.1 Store will be closed December 16 2019, and we will no longer be able to download apps.
For some time the Store has been a mess and people are already unable to download apps. Yes, even before the closing date.
The question is: How can we unlock our phones now?
The unlocking methods relies on downloading apps from the Store, like "Preview for Developers", "MixRadio", "HERE Maps" and File Managers.
People who didn't unlock their phones are hopeless? The ones that did unlock and need to reflash the .ffu are hopeless too?
EDIT: Just read about Windows Phone Internals, but some devices are missing in the supported list, including mine.
EDIT2: Some roms have MixRadio installed by default, so it is possible to easily unlock them.
Also downloaded Windows Phone Internals, and to my surprise, my phone is in the supported list (inside the software), although it is not listed at the site.
EDIT3: I got too focused on having the required apps available from the store that I forgot the most important part/tool to unlock the phone: The Windows Phone Developer Registration 8.1 tool. Unfortunately the last time I tried to unlock my phone (some days ago) I wasn't able to, and received an error.
Going by comments, other people have the same issue.
Hi,
Please, Microsoft store for WPhone with W8.1 does not work last days, one month before 16.12.2019! Why? Now, on my Lumia 630 Store does not work! Does it work with you? Thank you.
Nope.

It is not working for a lot of people.
I'm afraid at this point they might not have any incentive to fix this. They can wait until the store closes in one month and forget about it.
I did a reset to the phone (Lumia 1020) and now I'm stuck without anything and with 0000 updates!! error c101a006 since Tuesday!!
if they won't fix the store, is there any way to build WP8.1 Denim CFW with all the stuff I need pre-installed, like I did with Symbian ? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!! HELP!!!!!!!

I can't. My phone is not supported.
I would guess that the majority having this issues are using devices that cannot be upgraded to Windows 10.

Issue is these methods rely on the phone being developer unlocked but today I'm facing an issue where the Windows Phone SDK registration tool refuses to unlock my Lumia 520 on a different CV ROM. Not sure what the issue is since I successfully unlocked it twice in the past couple of days. I know this because I'd installed the CustomWPSystem_0700.xap and applied CustomPFD_0003.xap successfully both times.
But today, it just refuses to go beyond ""Error logging into the Windows Phone Dev Center. Check your Microsoft Account credentials and try again"" and I've no idea why. Funny thing is, it would give the same error on previous tries but the phone would be unlocked!
I understand the WPI method but it feels like overkill with higher risks to do all that for just a few registry changes to trigger updates.
And I don't have much use of a boot loader unlocked or rooted device as of today. Research didn't bring up much help either so I'm thinking of installing the last WP SDK from VS 2015 and see if it does the job.
But yes, though Microsoft says they don't have any immediate plans to remove the updates for the phones, the methods of getting those updates might become problematic.

I am facing the same problem. That might be gone for good, unfortunately.
