Sweet, I just got the update on my HD7 from Bell. How could HTC have been so wishy-washy on this, they've clearly planned it...

Yes.

Eagerly waiting for the update availability here in Dubai.

How to update to official 7.8 with stay unlocked?
I'm using Dynamics custom 7.8 ROM atm.

same situation here... waiting for solution

Was pleased to get the update today... 3 updates in total...
Lovin the new homescreen... :good:
Also, the new colours are great... Even the old colours look better (red/orange)... They really have body, like an amoled without an amoled...

No "Trick", no Tool...
Just go to Zune and ... hey there's an UPDATE.
Love new Homescreen.
And my Lumia 710 just wait for it.

Does this mean the HD7s will get it too?
The relation between this 2 models confuses me and I couldn't find a hd7s specific forum
(Maybe I'm a n00b... Like the ones mentioned in the video haha)

The trick method with zune (pulling out the cable) didn't work for me for the last two days, but I had to do a hard reset on the phone and changed the system locale to English (Canada), and that seemed to get the update done - I had seen a bunch of Canadians getting the update, so I tried this and it worked!

US T-Mobile HD7 upgrade to 7.8
Has anyone gotten upgrade to 7.8 on their phone?
I tried the disconnect method, but no joy.

Use Seven-Eighter, it worked for me.
Don't forget to select all languages you have installed to update.

Spanish HD7 updated to 7.8!
Hi, I just wanna share my experience with you:
NOTE 1: First of all, try a normal update on Zune without doing any special trick, Many people is updating the device without any special action!
NOTE 2: There are some data consumption related bugs. Check them here.
This has been my experience:
There are 3 updates to install, as previously mentioned: 7.10.8779.8 --> 7.10.8783.12 --> 7.10.8858.136
These are the steps to follow on each update, taken from several posts over the net as this:
1) Disconnect WiFi and other data connections on the device.
2) Connect device to Zune
3) Go to settings->phone->update
4) While searching for updates for the device count to 5 and disconnect internet on your computer (WiFi, ethernet, whatever...).
5) Wait about 30 seconds for the Zune response.
6) If "no updates available" or "error searching" or similar response is shown, go to another option in the left menu and then repeat the process from step 3. If "update found", go to Step 7.
7) Reconnect Internet access (ethernet, WiFi...) on your computer (not the phone).
8) Follow instructions to install the update
Some notes:
- I have spent more than 15 tries to make Zune show the update. It depends on Internet/computer response when searching to Microsoft update servers. If 5 seconds don't work for you, try changing the wait time. In my case, started with 1 second, then 2, then 3... 5 resulted to be the perfect one. The second and third update only used 3 search attemps. Using wireshark may help, look at instructions explained by user "medeis" on a comment in this page: here.
- 1st update is very slow, the second and the third is much faster (no backup required as in first).
- Repeat this procedure for every update (3 in total).
It worked for me on my unbranded HTC HD7 from Spain. It runs very smoothly, but nothing special apart from the new tiles (ok, great), accent colors (unnecessary, don't know why I can't choose one from a color picker...) and lock screen (my child is more beautiful thant any bing image...)
Cheers,
xdomingo

i think , removing simcard ! is only thing we need. works for me in first hours 7.8 coming ...

Zune offered me the 7.10.8860.142
no tricks, no magic or "quantum healing" pseudoscience (for you new age ignorants)
from now on, xda-developers.com can LOL at this assholes:

ROFL!!!
The moral in this tale: WPCentral are STUPIDS

Question for anyone who streams music over bluetooth; how is the sound quality? In previous versions, audio bitrates were purposely crippled in the registry and it sounded awful. Did they fix that? Zune has started to badger me about this update as well, and I'm tempted to update. I'm running a modded firmware just to get around the bluetooth issue and don't want to update if it's just going to get me crappy sound quality again...

Wait.. so you guys counted to 40 and then turned off your data connection?
Good to hear guys, I waited 35 sec. Badcam3 yes thats when you cut off data. Some people have reported over 60 sec, some 15. Good luck!
No joy on O2 uk.
It worked for my unbrand asia HD7, Its great thanks !!!
it works kinda
Okay so I tried this and it updates successfully (had to wait nearly 60 second)
I was successfully running NoDo and I tested almost everything, but
DNS was not working, I tried over Wifi everything was fine, tried my data connection and got the error message "could not find DNS server.
I'm restoring my phone using zune, and see if that resolves it.
If that does, I'm just going to bite the bullet and unbrand that SOB with the NoDo rom using the method outlined by ansar here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001019
Edit:
I actually I think it's a t-mobile issue, I left my nexus at home so I can't verify. To make matters worse I hard reset my phone, after downgrading my rom version. FUC*!!!
Edit 2:29Pm 03/30/2011
Yes it was a t-mobile thing. Hardreset and downgraded for no reason. Good news as soon as I reconnected to Zune I got NoDo update immediately
-good part is, Zune restore works flawlessly for those who are wondering.

Though I like to think I have pretty good sense of time, I used my watch just to be extra precise.
Hey guys, I wanted to clear some things up for you guys since some seem a bit confused about the timing.
The timing differs for EVERYONE! You need to time how long it says "checking for updates" or whatever. Once you get that time, lets call it "n", you do it again (with cellular data on). Before you search for an update again, I went to the "phone updates" in the settings tab, make sure the "check for updates via cellular data" is checked, you want to stay here while zune looks for your update. Now manually search for an update and at approximately (n-1)seconds you want to uncheck that box. Your phone should show a notification that says there's an update available.
IF IT IS TOO LONG OF A READ, BASICALLY EVERYONES TIMING IS DIFFERENT!
It worked on 3rd attempt due to timing. But it is okay. And it kept itself jailbroken and I can sideload anything just like before.
Great.
PS: This should be pinned, IMHO.

[OTA Update] T-Mobile USA 5/10/11

Mentioned patching a security hole but nothing else that I saw. Just finished installing, version shows 7.0.7392.0
Fix for fraudulent third-party digital certificates. This update includes a critical fix to an industry-wide issue with nine untrusted digital certificates that were issued by one root certificate authority. These third-party digital certificates are used to access popular websites and email portals. Although this is not a Microsoft security vulnerability, these untrusted certificates may be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all web browser users. This update moves the affected certificates to the "Untrusted Publishers" certificate store on Windows Phone, which helps ensure that these fraudulent certificates are not inadvertently used.

That's all it's supposed to be and is. Just got it too. Glad I did as I needed a fresher backup
According to Walsh it also has other fixes though... I wouldn't doubt Microsoft just threw something in there, after all, they didn't mention a single bug fix in NoDo, though obviously there were some.

[Q] HD7 WIFI Hotspot

This month is the 12th month after I started to use WP7 and it's almost 3 month after I upgraded to mango using RTM built. 7.10.7720.68. when can we have that WIFI tethering?
Please correct me if i'm wrong but actual windows 7.5 release phones have it but the Mango release for older phones does not.
Correct. WiFi tethering will only be available with the new hardware. Kind of a bummer, but otherwise I would say its perfect.

Wrong.....
Wifi tethering will be available on 1st gen devices that have the chipset to support it.
The HD7 / HD7s does have this chipset, and HTC have already said that they will push out a firmware update in the next month or so that will enable it.
The only barrier unfortunately is your mobile operator, who will either block it entirely or will require you pay an extra subscription to unlock it.
Or of course in future you can visit your friendly local xda forum and bypass such restrictions ;-)
i hope this is soon, i just got this hd7 phone and updated to mango. kinda disappointing that every other phone i've used had this feature. who would of thought such a small thing was used so often....
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233612
The Samsung technique to enable Wifi tethering will not work for the HTC HD7. I've been using the USBModeSwitch tool by ansar to tether by USB to my Windows 7 laptop. The instructions are a bit long winded, but it works quite well in the end. The only trouble is that every time you want to tether you must run the USBModeSwitch app, the device resets, you must disable the data connection, and only then can you connect on your laptop. You must remember to re-enable the data connection on the phone afterwards, and must reboot your phone again if you want to return to Zune mode. There is also a risk; if you uninstall the USBModeSwitch app whilst in tethering mode, you will NOT be able to sync with Zune or reinstall USBSwitchMode afterwards, even if you hard reset; you will have to pay for a special cable and a Gold Card to fix it! So you have to be careful.
Good news though! I read somewhere (Engadget I think) this morning that Microsoft have said that "a further firmware update will be made available to Gen1 devices at the end of this month that will enable more features" (paraphrasing). I take this to mean that HTC, Samsung etc will push out another firmware update to enable WiFi Hotspot and other minor features like visual voicemail (for those networks that support it). Looking forward to this.

Thanks for the replies. I just have one question left, is there a difference between the internet sharing in the official update and the internet sharing in the custom roms?
Like will the internet sharing in the official update prompt him to purchase a tethering plan compared to the custom rom not asking?
Thanks alot!

It just worked without asking me anything.
I don't think T-mobile actually charges for tethering or for internet sharing. I know that in October of last year they were going to start charging $15, but I don't think they went through with it. If you go to set up a plan, you can select Wi-Fi and tethering as an option for an additional $10, but the description is as follows:
"Stay connected -- get Wi-Fi access on your laptop, phone, and select cameras and gaming devices at places you already go, including Starbucks, Borders Books and Music stores, airports such as DFW, LAX and SFO, Barnes & Noble bookstores and many more."
So this looks to me like signing up for non-mobile hotspots, not for internet sharing.
I connected mine as well without it asking for anything. Same thing on my android that I owned before this.
Confirmed!
Yeeey finaly we got the WIFI internet sharing.
I'm finaly satisfied with this phone.
FInal peice of the puzzle
This is finally the phone I always wanted with the Wifi hotspot feature just made available.

Force Enable Internet Connection Sharing

Hey, everyone.
I just bought an ATT Samsung Focus S i937 off of eBay. It was locked when I received it, so I plunked down 25 bucks and unlocked it. I'm using it on Telus and so far all is well, except for WiFi connection sharing/tethering.
When I try to enable internet sharing, I get a message saying "Connection not shared. To enable tethering on this device go to (ATT's website) or dial 611."
Basically, it sounds like I need to have an ATT tethering plan to enable this on my phone, but since I'm not an ATT customer, there's not mch I can do.
I was wondering if there is a workaround for this. Please let me know!
Thanks,
Taylor

firstly DO NOT INSTALL THE SAMSUNG UPDATE!! and if updating the OSan have it unlocked already read This Website and use the relock prevent + edit your hosts file
Absolutely back up your device at every stage using This Guide
So follow these steps
unlock the device Here follow the instructions which includes installing the diagnostic tool and install XAP deployer or XAP handler Here or Here With the XAP file deployer in the WP7 SDK
Then install WP7 Root Tools Here
Then install WP Bazaar market Here
Open Root Tools, and give Bazaar higher level privileges
Find WinTT on the Bazaar market and install it
Open Root Tools, and give WinTT higher level privileges
you may need to restart to get WinTT working
go through WinTT and turn on ICS
Done
Wow thanks.
That's very complete. One questions though... I didn't mention this, but I am a registered WP7 dev and can unlock this device using my dev access. Can I load any of the XAPs directly instead of having to crack my phone?
Thanks,
Taylor
Yeah, you have limited access to installing xaps, but you will still need to interop unlock and use root tools to give higher level access to WinTT, so your best starting from scratch,

Does it have any other side effects.? Like effecting the radio signals or any other such problem.

ok, first things first.
You won't brick your device, at worst a hardrest all remove all changes you can do, our device, the focus S, isn't fully unlocked, so there are limitations to the amount of damage you can do by arseing it up. With that behind us you have to learn what you are about to do, there isn't a simple way.
So, start by knowing these basics, then read through the guide, any bits you don't understand feel free to ask.
1, AT&T locked your internet connection sharing, so you must re enable that
2, To enable ICS, you must make changes to the registry
3, Microsoft locked you out of making changes to the registry, so you must gain access to do it
4, AT&T left a security hole allowing us to make changes to allow us to change things like registry
5, using that hole we can install software that will give us more access, that software can then allow us to remove the AT&T lock on ics
These things you must do, there is no magic answer, there has been some short cuts made but this in some cases has had a negative effect, such as losing 3g, doing as I said will not have any effect on your signal or anything else

theres nothing in the code that should have done that, the XML import only fiddles with interop unlock
im not 100% sure what WTT changes but I know the entries it should be fiddling with and shouldnt make any difference, although its been suggested the ICS code does mess with the 3G signal ive not heard anything at all to suggest that it effects GPS as well.
See This Thread for details, ive copied the relevant bits here but all thanks should go to those on the original thread
Option 1
---- 11.3. If your device is not locked to a specific operator, you can use the Samsung Network Profile app (for 1st generation) or Wireless Manager (for 2nd generation)
-------- 11.3.1. Uninstall the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
-------- 11.3.2. Download and install the latest version of the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app from the Marketplace.
-------- 11.3.3. Open the Samsung Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
-------- 11.3.4. Select a different Network Operator.
-------- 11.3.5. Now Select your own Network Operator again.
-------- 11.3.6. Exit the Network Profile / Wireless Manager app.
Option 2
Resolve Samsung connection problems
A lot of Samsung owners have complained here about connection problems. They blamed Interop Unlock, but apparently this has more to do with enabling "Internet Connection Sharing" than with "Interop Unlock". You should be able to recover the connection, apply this:
1. Start Diagnosis App> *#32489# ***DOES NOT WORK ON i937***
2. Tap "Back" 2 times to go back to Phone Control
3. Choose: [7] Network Control
4. Choose: [1] GFC
5. Choose: [3] Setting Cancellation
Wait for it to say success, then reboot.
GPS is a completely passive function, I don't have a problem with this, HSDPA may have issues for reasons unknown but using this method doesn't effect mine, perhaps its carrier specific..

First of all I just want to say thanks that you're trying to help me, but I just didn't understand many things u said, I'm not really into technical stuff, but I'll tell you what info I have, in hope of u helping me better.
I don't live in the US and I bought the phone from ebay and it was unlocked and it works perfectly over 2 carriers here in my country, and I have never encountered any problems with it except for the internet sharing feature.
And about 3 months ago the phone notified my to a system upgrade from version 7.10.7740 to version 7.10.8107 then immediatly to version 7.10.8773.98. now I'm guessing these are OS firmwares not samsung software.
but I've noticed something, when I setup my phone for the first time I used a US hotmail account but before I connect to the internet the ICS feature worked, but once I signed in it gave me the dial 611 or go to att.com/mywireless message.
So I am guessing if I restore the device and sign in with a non US hotmail account may result in the feature to be unlocked. The only thing keeping me from trying this because I'll have to redownload all my apps again and reorganize my contacts again. if there's a way to avoid that or someone has tried it please do tell.
Again thanks for your reply.

Dazza,
Kudos for your help as you personally worked with me through this information. Not sure the Samsung update is a concern as I'm running fw2103.11.10.1 and everything works great.
Thanks again.

im afraid to say your firmware is locked,
2103.11.10.1 is unlock-able, im pretty sure anything from xxxx.12.xx.x upwards is locked down solid
I don't suppose you made a backup? if you haven't then there is nothing you can do
the Samsung firmware update was released as a separate update at the same time as the tango 8773 build, it tried to install on mine after the 8773 build
Found a solution =D

I'm really sorry for the late reply, was busy at work. but during that time I might have found a "Glitch" or a workaround to enable it and I have tested it many times and it works.
Well there are two ways:
1st one which is a sure thing:
1) Turn off the phone, then turn on again.
2) Once the phone is turned on, immediately go to settings>internet sharing and turn it on and BOOM there you go
* I have tried this method over a dozen times and it works every single time
** The point here is that you have to enable it immediately after the phone is turned on, I think it happens because the phone doesn't have enough time to send the info. to the servers to know that it's not enabled by default.
2nd one which was succesful over 75% of the time:
1) Go to Settings>cellular>Turn Off, Wait like 5-10 seconds and turn on again.
2) Go to Internet sharing> Turn on, and enjoy :fingers-crossed:
***I don't know why do they work or how, may be it's a Glitch like I said before but the point is they do work
I hope that I've helped someone out there and Thanks to everyone who tried to help me

nice find, ICS is disabled locally only, it doesn't have anything to send, the only thing I can think of that makes sense is that the service hasn't been initialised and doesn't call the reg entries that disables ICS, by turning it on manually ASAP it perhaps catches it out. if you enable it, then disable it, can you still enable it again in that session or do you need to restart?

Well I tried that, but there is no definite answer to it, sometimes I turn it on and off on and off many times without needing to restart and throughout the whole day, and sometimes it works once and doesn't at the second try. So it all comes down to luck, but still better than nothing
Now the thing is I'm afraid that when the 7.8 update comes, they would fix this glitch =D Haha.

[Q] 7.8 update

I've got an AT&T braded HD7. It would never update past 7720. Yeah, pre Tango. Bug fixes? Who needs those? Sorry, I'm frustrated.
Anyways, today I unlocked the phone (legit means). Now I've got my AT&T and an unused T-Mobile SIM.
No matter the method, I cannot get an upgrade. Let me be clear: I'd rather not have to hack my phone, but get the update normally.
Everything I've tried, hard resets, one SIM, the other, no SIM, different locales, hours of Zune unplug network "trick", nothing works. I'm "up to date" at 7720.
Can anyone:
1. Confirm that AT&T (U.S.) branded HD7 can in no way get an update through Zune normally.
2. Give their true opinion on the stability of SevenEighter.
No luck!

I'll say that the SevenEighter tool work comletely fine for my T-Mobile branded HD7. Great little tool. Just be sure to select all the language packs your phone needs to operate.
As for the AT&T question, as far as I know, AT&T didn't realease an update for the HD7. If they haven't released any update for pre-Tango, I don't think you'll have any luck.

I went ahead on Sunday and used SevenEighter. I also did research about the language packs before I ran it. It worked great. I was -NINE- revisions behind, so it took a while. It blows my mind AT&T wouldn't even release the Tango bug fix version. What a garbage provider.
Woah!

So far so good. I'm not the type to use a lot of apps, email, and facebook. I just like the simple interface.
I guess I'll put it through its paces when I attempt to use it with a new bluetooth car stereo.

I did find 7.8 corrected my battery meter issue. It would go to near dead in a day and stay that way for a day. Now the meter acts normal.

My battery sometimes acts funny like that. I find that doing a battery pull corrects the issue for awhile,
