Not really haha. I don't play the lottery....I got everything I want
You know what I would do if I had a million dollars? I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...

great man. GREAT man.
i think id buy ppcs, a couple cars, and maybe a BIG house
I'd travel with my friends and see the world, then I'd use the rest to make other people happy too. I'd have a lot of paintball, airsoft and real guns and a huge yard.
Also I'd have a midget. With a tuxedo.
i wd buy a PS3 a realllyy large TV and some nice games for ps3
I would donate half to my favorite charities, secure my kids education, pay off all my debt, buy my wife some nice clothes and jewelry, and have an investment firm manage the rest.........
Oh who am I kidding, I'll end up blowing it all on hookers and alcohol.
First, Pay off debts, put away more than enough for my children's education, buy a really nice large house on the lake, Boat, 1963 Corvette Stingray for myself and a four door jeep for myself for winter driving, and whatever vehicle my wife wants and do lots of travelling. I would also set up my parents and mother in law for a very comfortable retirement which I would insist should start immediately (they hate their jobs) I love my job, So I would continue working

please don't ask me about the second half
i would do nothing and keep living like i was b4 i won. I'd put the winning away for a rainy day.
Keeping it simple, b/c the more complex your life is, the less happy you will be.
First of all, build my house on my beautifull land!
Then, do a looong travel with my wife to Asia
Help this communty with a laaarge donation
Buy me a new Land Rover, and the rest on some SECURE investment, maybe buying gold... as any currency seems to be secure on this days.
Pay off debts, get some cars, some clothes, some tech.
Put money away for college
Buy nice house
Buy nice car
Take out 1mil for personal spending
Leave rest for my future children and in case I ever want to invest in a booming company or buy stocks in coniditions such as this when they're dead just so they can rise later and be worth millions! lol

Hmm. As much as I would like to agree with you on that, and my mom and dad say the same thing if they won the lottery, I think that is soo untrue. Right now you are thinking it is impossible to win the lottery, that is why you say that. If you had actually won a 10mil lottery, I can guarantee you wouldn't be saying that. Even though I don't know you all too well, I don't believe ANYONE could do that. Just my personal opinion. Maybe you're those 1 in 10 million people who is able to just reject the urge to spend money when you have an abundance of it.

SH*T!!! I would buy VZW just for aggrivating me, then sell it all to Sprint !
First I would pay off all of mine and my families debt. Then I would deposit it all in savings accounts. Then I would continue working for one year. Then I would live off of the interest it gained. This way I would never spend the money. And my children and grand-children...etc would never have to work. There would always be a secure income for them. I would also buy Life insurance to equal the amount, so that when I die, the money would double.
Yeah-Right!! I'D PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR!!
I would pay off my debt and invest in the company I work for. I would try to keep working because I honestly love my job!
Apple has patented the look of the tablet, and has already won an injunction in Germany:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/...-oems-from-building-tablets/14175?tag=nl.e550
Apple has successfully blocked one tablet, and their so-called patent in Spain (a crude drawing) could ban all tablets other than Apple there.
America, boycott Apple if you have a brain (or even if only half). This is what this country fought against, and all you Apple fans, get your frickin heads out!!
Apple is going for technological dictatorship at the hands of an egotistical, psychotic, megalomaniac who is pulling no stops at dirty patent tricks across the globe.
As if the global economy wasn't bad enough, Jobs has to get his grubby little fingers into the pot in a grab to try to take over and crush the entire tech industry and progress across the globe.
F Apple. F Jobs.
I will NEVER EVER buy an Apple product, as it goes against everything this country stands for. I could give a rat's patootie if it is an American company... That just makes it worse!
Well said. I too support your ideas.

I agree with everything you're saying except for one thing...it's exactly what this country now stands for.
But I have never bought an Apple product and I never will.
It seems like every day, A new Apple story pops up with Apple attempting to shut down world-wide industries.
I am wondering when the PC will come under fire? If the legal system throughout the world and this nation is this broken, will they find a way to ban PC selection throughout the world? Their server products have been a flop since their inception, will they go after Dell next?
Maybe I better patent this idea before Apple gets it's hands on it:
A box, with a power button on it, that has microprocessors on the inside in some sort of a configuration that allows computations to be performed, and from applied pressure from a body appendage to said button can cause power to be applied to the box resulting in a display (with potential words or graphical images on it) to activate as a result of the box interaction.

Quick, someone draw a box with a circle on the center, and lets get this submitted to the patent office! Picture plus vague description = PROFIT!
Apple isn't doing anything differently from any other company in the world. They all guard their interests as best they can. The thing with Apple is, what they do is highly publicized. But they are far from being the number one litigator. And the attention they get is because they are an American technology company that is doing business better than the Asian businesses. That alone earns Apple a lot of hate. I will say this, though, the Asian businesses are masters at creating hate.

There's no interest here, and the reason it is highly publicized is because Apple was successful in the first stage of getting every tablet removed from every country in the EU by producing a picture of an Etch-A-Sketch without knobs, and they are ACTUALLY WINNING!!
Companies protect I.P.. Apple is out to play the system for global domination using the dirtiest of patent tricks I have ever seen (aside from dirty IP companies that have been patenting everything under the sun for the past decade, but unlike Apple, they normally get shut down eventually). The worst part about this is that Jobs has made no bones about the fact that he has no intentions of licensing out his patents. His intentions are CLEARLY to eliminate the global market.
There's a big difference between protecting one's company intellectual property, and just being downright OBVIOUS about invalid and anti-competitive patents.

If they are the stupidest company in the world, then why are they number 1 in the public stock market? Why are they still getting so many sales? Why are they beating every other device out there? They know how to design and make a fast and reliable product. No other company can do what Apple can. Just because Apple is better, doesn't mean you have to hate on them.

Apple isn't better. People are stupid. Stupid people think that if you pay more for the same thing it makes you cool. Stupid people want to be cool, probably in hopes that other stupid people won't think they are stupid.
Apple makes nice stuff. They do. But they charge 2x too much, at least for their computers. They parlay this into a "designer" brand (Like Calvin Klein or Hilfiger etc.) and then EVERYONE "has" to have their stuff. Doesnt matter if it costs more or less or whatever. Sheeple. Listen to the bleat!

Exactly.
But you have to understand that the production of "hate" for a successful business is the Asian companies way of competing. Instead of litigating, which they have no excuse to do because they infringe the products of non-national companies, they resort to inflammatory tactics. It takes a lot longer and is very unreliable, though.

They do seem to ignite an almost religious debate; however, Apple is deserving of a strong message.
I had once contemplated purchasing an iPad. I contemplate no longer...
In talking about the ruling for Apple against HTC (thread was closed), there was a statement made to the effect that Steve Job's mission was to destroy Android...and it was questioned. Yes he said it. Its in Biography Book
~Steve Jobs said:
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong, I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

On Amazon

Nearly every tech blog covered this quote as soon as the book was released. It's controversial and sure to stir up arguments. To be honest, I think the quote is misleading and is taken out of context.
If you read the rest of his bio, it mentions that Steve lives in his own reality distortion field.
There are 2 sides to this. On the positive side, he was able to will his product designs into existence. Eg, when he asked Woz to come up with a game within a few days, Woz said that it was impossible and that it would take at least weeks. Steve insisted it was possible and an inspired Woz achieved the unthinkable.
On the negative side, he chose to simply not acknowledge anything that he didn't like. A perfect example would be his own illness. He delayed the required medical treatment because he thought that his own treatment plan would work (despite going against medical advice). If he wasn't that stubborn, he would probably still be here today.
It could very well be that he thinks Android is a stolen product. But that's just his own distorted mindset.
I know the context of the quote...wont get into that. Just answering a question about if he actually said that....

3 of my friends and 2 cousins who have been up since last night sitting infront of their computer, couldn't get theirs. I'm sure there are many more like that out there right now. After Nexus 7, imo Google should have been prepared, maybe should have gone with a solo US launch first and cover the rest of the world after 2 weeks or so. Works for Samsung every single time.

Yep, smells somewhat like a PR-stunt to me. No offense to Google, but such a big company (that makes its money througn market analytics and advertising), not prepared for this huge demand after the success of the N7 and the low-pricing-policy? Hard to think of...
This is all speculation, but they could be after the exact headline of this thread coming to major newspapers tomorrow, certainly not a bad thing in terms of PR.
I personally think, that they made a low amount of devices available at the launch hoping for a sell-out like it has only happened with Apple products. Main stash of devices will be available soon, there has to be some over-stock before the holidays, they won't loose all the possible sales at this time of the year where customers tend to spend the most money on electronic devices.
But as I said, all speculations, no offense. I could be wrong

Speculation but the only reasonable logic. Given how slow and how many errors there were, Google is not ready to sell iPhone numbers. I do not believe that much stock was emptied. In either case, hopefully they provide some numbers for us. If they don't, well then I think we can just assume the PR stunt.

lol, they effectively did, started in Australia and worked westward to the US.
I find it believable, since they are not pulling off the same sold out stunt with the Nexus 10. It is probably due to the price. All they have to get out there is superior to the GS3 and for $349 unlocked with no contract and whoever that needs a new phone would be crazy not to buy it.
That said, there are not enough geeks to sustain these numbers like the iphone 5 can sustain the numbers. However, 2 million or more geeks all ordering at 9am pst is definitely plausible. But once that 2 million gets theirs then we will see how much staying power the Nexus 4 generates.
This is without a doubt a marketing technique. Watch all the tech articles tomorrow "Google sells out Nexus 4 in .03 microseconds!"
And you'll get ignorant posters with comments like "OMGWTFBBQ Apple took 2 days to sell out! I love Google tehe LMAO OMFG"
even if Google only had 3 phones to sell, and Apple had 3 million
marketing stunt
Exactly, totally a marketing stunt. They want the headlines that the Nexus 4 sold out, that its a hot commodity. That will create more interest, higher demand, and magically in a few days a whole butt-load of units will show up in the play store. It'll be interesting to see if they actually release number of units sold today.
They sold out because they only had like 10 devices available in each region, except the US, where they had like 15 units available...
Yes, I'm bitter.
I'm actually more curious the volume of sales for the first day of release, and if Google will release those numbers.
I gt one for myself!! But ya google sucked!! I feel sorry for you all!! They must have stocked arnd one lakh/0.1 million units in each country!! Thats really bad!! Apple had really done a good job

Don't be so quick to think that way. First of all, the article's only argument is that the price is high, and it is cheaper to use Facebook and twitter from home. In addition, it even states an argument against itself (I like it because the author is not biased) which says the teen years are a memorable time and the convenient camera captures those memories.
So basically, buy a Galaxy Nexus off contract (~$270), activate it on a cheap prepaid plan, and blam! You don't even need to get data, just have him connect to WiFi.
In fact, you can even just get an unlocked Nexus S (~$130) or Galaxy S (~$100) and they should fit his needs enough.
The article pertains to on contract high end phones (specifically an iPhone 5), but you can greatly reduce the price by buying a previous flagship and use a prepaid plan.

Well, brace yourselves, here comes a 16 year olds opinion. What my dad did was get me a plan, but I had to buy the phone. It was great because it taught me some responsibility and gave me some leeway. Please don't lock your kid down from having a social life, also don't let him buy an iPhone. Well, the thing is even dumb phones can text, so in order to prevent that you need to not let your child have a phone at all.
Or just good parenting

Let me tell you one thing. When I was in hs we all had blackberries and iphones 3g. Yes there were those kid who were into drama and stuff and non stop texting and they don't learn anything but there good uses for 15 year old to have a cell.
Although I don't condone cheating Google the answer to capital of new York is better than guessing a wrong answer because you'll know and remember rather than go on not knowing.
The other is for communication. Especially after what happened in Connecticut you child needs to call out or if they go out and get peer pressured to do something bad, they can call a friend to come or call you to pick them up before they are guilty by association.
Last reason is that bullying. We want the best phones and kid like to make fun of others who are less fortunate then they are. When you get older you view being bullying differently but could be devastating for a teen who hasn't experienced the adult world.
Smartphone for teen. Lab top or PC. Yes

Buddy you'll be shocked that lots of decent developers here on xda-developers are teen. I myself started symbian development at the age of 17. So I think it's best not to generalize teens.
I had to pay for my first smartphone and Plan. The only thing I had was a "dumb phone" and it was for 911 only. So any teen who thinks getting a smartphone is in the bill of rights, need's to get a job. ( If want to give them one as a gift, because they did well or what ever ok.) But Don't make them think for one sec it's a right to have a free smartphone+plan.

Also, if your kid isn't really like the teens on xda, he probably won't know or care about software updates.

As a 15 year old teen, I'd say that, by a side, it does indeed can get in the way of school. Sometimes I get distracted with it instead of studing (at home). But, on another side, I see it as my tool to do a lot of things during my day. I listen to music with it, I often access my school website for grading check (hard to explain my school grade method) during classes with data (no WiFi access to students), I write all my tests, control my classes with it, takes notes, be related to school or not, it's also my communtication tool. And many other things not mentioned...

That's all I have to say.

I agree with you completely mate. It teaches teens about financial responsibility. It also shows them that they are not entitled to a smartphone but rather something that is earned.
Good luck mate

Tell your son that. Let him choose the plan and the phone as long as he pays for it. You will have to make sure he doesn't get some crap China phone that'll break in a day, but otherwise it's all up to him to find the best deals etc.
Good luck to you, lol aren't you the OP who are you saying good luck to

Exactly. A phone basically should have thing in mine, to get in contact with some1 when they are doing a lot of work. Something was when I first got a job, my parents got me a phone so I could makes calls when I wasn't in school.
Since upgrading to a smartphone, its more than just a phone, you can access the internet with it and it can be a huge distraction, but its so much better then most phones out there.
To give your son a smartphone is a big resposibility, but something I learned is you gotta work to earn it, cant just give it for no work. f he has good grades and shows responsibility with it, then he deserves it. If he starts to show hes slacking behind, then its trouble

Dam.
You must not take a lot of notes cause I am sure you could write much faster than typing on that tiny keyboard.
I bought my teenage daughter a cheap laptop. Put k9 browser on it, an old refurbed iPod 2nd Gen and locked the iTunes store and safari, and then put k9 on it too. She has a dumb phone to call in emergencies and text her friends with. The locks at 8pm and if I see that her grades are slipping the phone and iPod become mine again. If I see she is spending all her time in front of a TV or computer theybget turned off and she goes outside.
That being said she is in Beta club. Gets A's and B's and has as much of a social life as she needs. She also won her class's physical fitness award. The place I spoil her is I let her do some name brand shopping for clothes. As long as I approve.
All in all we have our disagreements but she "gets by" lol.

You actually manage her social life? That's not something I would really look over, unless I know she's with gangsters or drug dealers or whatever. Getting a tad personal there.
(Likewise, I don't look at my son's texts unless I suspect something)
Not judging your parenting, just giving my perspective
