Absolute NooB to the NC here, so please be gentle!
I've got four issues that should be no-brainers but they are beating me up. I've split them into four separate posts to keep things clean.
1. Booting to recovery
What I've read is to power the NC off, power on, hold down power & N key until boot screen (which I assume is the "Touch the future of reading" screen), then release both to boot into recovery mode.
Certainly sounds simple.
I can't make it work. Been trying for days.
So, does this actually work? What is the trick?
Timing on that can be tricky, so don't get frustrated. When the 'touch the future' logo comes up, continue holding N and power and count to about 4. Hopefully that gets you, but if not, try 3 and 5 counts. If it powers back off, you held too long, but it won't hurt anything!
I have the same darn problem with mine---but I never see "touch of the future" script, I see " loading". I always see "loading".
CM7 on the sd card.
I have never booted into recovery.
?
I usually reboot to recovery from rom manager.
Thanks! Got it down now. Once I got the timing down, tis as easy as on my original Droid.

That's my preferred method (on my original Droid) but it doesn't work for me on the Nook.
Maybe because I am still booting CM7 from the sdcard?
I'm on the same boat here cant figure out how to get into recovery mode.
I tried the power/N button combinations, reboot into recovery from CM7 desktop, and ROM manager still doesn't get me into recovery mode.

Problem fixed, stopped using stable build 7.03 and used nightly build 102 and now I could get in and out of recovery mode with no issues.
I recently installed CM7 after rooting my phone with Superoneclick and installing Clockworkmod. However, after installation of CM7, i managed to boot up the system, played around with it and realised that i needed to install the google addon as well. So i rebooted the phone to enter into CWM recovery, however the problem started.
My phone is now stucked on the LG logo screen and would not change. I left the phone in that state till the battery went dead. Recharged the phone and it remained on that screen.
Tried to connect the phone to the PC to flash it with smartflash, but it doesnt work at all. I removed the battery and held the volume down button while plugging in the usb cable. All i see is the phone stucked on the white LG logo screen.
Is there any way that i can reformat the contents of the phone or is my phone certified?
All help would be much appreciated!
Power up directly to cwm by pressing power button and volume down key at the same time.
Once in cwm, full wipe including /system and reflash cm and gapps.
Good luck.
I have tried that method as well. Sorry. Forgot to mention it in my initial post. It didn't work. I have tried to pull the battery, hold down the volume down and power button for at least 20 times now. Each time i get the same screen. The CWM menu does not come up.
Any other ways?

Hmm.....if u can't power to cwm directly then perhaps try smartflash to any stock rom.
1. Download any stock rom
2. Start smartflash app from pc
3. In power off mode, just press volume down to boot to software update screen. Start smartflash stock rom.
4. Boot up stock rom
5. Install rom manager and flash cwm from rom manager. (Or download cwm from Rusty! Cwm thread)
6. Boot to recovery
7. Flash cm rom
8. Flash gapps
Remove battery, hold both vol buttons and plug in USB. Screen should stay blank, but Windows will pick up an APX device. Now NVFlash back to stock and start again.
yup, tried the exact method that you suggested too. But it doesnt work. Still gets stuck at the LG logo.

This method worked! But i have another problem, windows found an APX device, tried to install it but failed. It says driver was not found. Do i have to install a specific driver for this to work? Thanks!
Yes, good point: http://android.modaco.com/topic/335...k-rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15032011/
I have managed to flash the phone and it is back working now. Thank you so much for your help rusty and temasek!
Hi, first post, hope the thread is not too old.
Unfortunately this is my best chance.
I have the same problem on my O1:
Updated from mik's beta 6.5.7 to beta 6.5.8 with the clockwork manager, at the reboot, I was stuck on lg logo.
Unfortunately usb + both volume buttons didn't work.
It remains still at the lg logo.
Pressing home + both volume, it repeately reboots.
In every case I can't go in recovery mode, so I can't wipe the system folder.
Any help will be appreciated,
thank for your time!
PS: sorry, maybe thread in p500, cm7 will be more appropriate.
hold power button + volume down button for 5-10 seconds may work, phone will reboot into recovery mode, then you are able to flash a stock rom or restore your nandroid-backup (if you made one)
good luck, hope it helps you
thanks, I saw a useful post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18531050#post18531050
Then I proceded as you wrote.
Now I'm stuck at adroid logo, without the chance to wipe cache.
The recovery does not start: loading bar and then forced reboot...
I don't know what to do
nvflash
maybe you try this link
android.modaco.com/topic/335416-nvflash-setup-instructions-drivers-links-active/
Sorry, i don't get the link working, copy it in your browser, then it should work (i'm posting with my phone that's why the link is'nt correct, but it works with browser, i tried it out)
If the link doesnt work, search 'nvflash lg p990 instructions' with google, you'll see the modaco website with the instructions and the download links

Thank you. A few hours ago, I managed to make it working.
Thanks for your answers, I appreciated.
nvflash is the way to go. Always make sure to use the usb ports on your motherboard (back of your computer) and not some usb hub or so.
Had a black screen for 8 hours, not able to boot, flash, recover or anything.
Changed usb port and I was able to flash the phone again.
I’ve got an AT&T Captivate that is stuck in 3e recovery, because it won't recognize when I use the power button to select "reboot system now."
Some background:
It was stuck in a boot loop running CM7. I re-installed éclair to take advantage of 2e recovery. Rooted it, and intended to put a version of UCKB1 without 3e recovery, so I could install unsigned files to prep for a re-install of CM. Apparently I flashed the wrong rom or the flash got corrupted. I can’t get it into download mode. Tried using a jig, tried using one-click unbrick. I can’t even use ADB, since it is in recovery.
Any help would be amazing! Thanks in advance.
Does the phone boot all the way to Android or does it still loop?
Did you use the jig while in recovery?
you have to use it on a powered off state.
Just yank the battery and either try the jig while powered off, or if it boots correctly use adb while it's powered up.
Thanks for replying. The phone does not boot into android, it gets stuck in 3e. I used the jig with the phone off. (I did try with it on just for kicks, but no joy.)
The phone "recoginizes" the power button when I try to turn it on, it gets to recovery, and then won't recognize a butten press in order to boot the rest of the way.
Thoughts?
Fixed it
Re-tried with a newly made jig. Must have blown a resister last time. Works now. Thanks for the advice.
I have this same issue intermittently, usually after a modem flash in cwm3. The txt will pop up saying that the back button has been disabled. A battery pull and restart and it reboots fine. Just a mystery to me...
Yeah that happens from time to time.try to Hold both volume buttons. That will sometimes re-enable the back button.
Ionno why that happens....
Some recoveries i've seen used back button or home button to select...just saying might work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
Yeah some recoveries not all, I know specifically in boog's kernels, you can use the capacitive buttons.
Settings = down
Home = up
Search = select
you have to cycle from the bottom to the top... i don't know why it does this..
Hit down repeatedly until you end at the top. the power button will work.
Hi um I'm pretty new to Android phones, and my Captivate's stuck in a bootloop...
I had CyanogenMod 9 on it, based on ICS 4.0.4, which i still have the .zip for if necessary. But I think I did something stupid... in the recovery (which said something about CWMrecovery) mode, I absent-mindedly formatted the /system directory... derp....
Now basically the phone shows the AT&T logo, then shows some kind of recovery screen, it only flashes up for a short time but I can see in the background both an android, like stock recovery mode, and the logo from ROM manager (or something very similar). There is some text at the bottom but it's very small and only flashes up for a split second so I can't read it... and what's worse, it won't boot into recovery...
I'm not exactly sure how to even do it, but random combinations of the volume & power buttons and home.. screen-area-thing work eventually.. but it's just not working now, as i hold the buttons it either just keeps rebooting before it gets past the AT&T logo or ignoring it completely, showing the recovery screen then rebooting again anyway
Sorry it's kinda long.. I tried to be detailed XD
tl;dr CM9 rom Captivate, formatted /system, stuck in bootloop, recovery mode won't work
Any help would be much appreciated
Edit: Forgot to say, I've searched around already but I haven't found anyone else who's bootloop is caused by formatting /system -.-
re flash the rom. you erased the rom.
dont wipe dont format just flash the rom again. you should be back as if it never happened.
If your in a boot loop you might want to invest in a jig, only $6 on eBay
You also said recovery doesn't work? Have you tried putting it into download mode?

jig will not help bootloop.
you are freaking out because of the bootloop and not holding the button combo for recovery long enough.
take out the battery. and replace
hold both volume buttons
then hold power
keep buttons held for 5 seconds AFTER screen comes on.
if your phone turns on and starts to boot, you have recovery and download.

Tried that, isn't working :\ it just ignores it, shows the recovery screen realy quick then reboots again...
I've had this happen on my captivate...only option is to flash back to a stock ROM and work your way back up to CM9 or whatever you were trying to flash originally. To do this your gonna have to get into download mode. A jiff is your best friend in this situation as suggested by several others. however if the button combo for download mode works for you, that is best. Try unplugging the battery, wait for like 10 seconds and plug back in. Have a PC running, and make sure you have the drivers installed. have the USB cable plugged into your computer, and while holding both the volume buttons down, plug the cable into your phone as well. This should put you into download mode and your good to go.

thanks cmilldrummin (and everyone else)
I got my phone into download mode fine... but i don't think I have the drivers :s (googling still, but can't find them so far)
Also I got it into recovery mode earlier, re-flashed the same custom ROM but when I tried to load it it just kept loading with the blue android on a skateboard until the battery ran out (It was the same one, CM9)
Is the like actual android system openable in download mode? so I could re-write the /system folder? if not I guess I'll just try to re-flash a stock rom then upgrade.. *crosses fingers*
Best way is to flash back to stock and start fresh.

Np Dolei, but yea back to stock is best, gives you a nice clean slate, with no glitches or errors
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
TRusselo is right. The other posts here are taking the sledgehammer approach for a simple fix. If you cannot get into recovery mode - you're doing it wrong, try again. reflash your rom from recovery and all done.

Try doing this, this has worked for me since I can't get into recovery with the traditional button combo method of holding all three buttons at the same time.
Turn the phone off. Hold the power button, vol up, vol down. Once the ATT boot screen comes on, let go of the power button. Keep holding the volume buttons and voila, you're in recovery.
Agree. Definitely go back to stock if possible first.

Hi Everyone;
I unlocked my phone for flashing custom rom. After unlocking i reebooted it and was normal. Then i flashed cwm via htc one toolkit. It was successfull as well. Then i go to cwm and made factory reset + wipe cache + dalvik cache. Then i go to install zip from sd card but i could not find my rom file. Thought, it was deleted while unlocking device. Then decided to reboot phone again to copy rom file into the phone and reboot.
But, when i rebooted phone from cwm, it stuck on HTC Logo( Quietly Brilliant screen). Waited sometime, but nothing happened. Then i tried to power off it and boot into bootloader or recovery. I press and hold power button but it does not respond anyhow. When i am holding power button ,back and home buttons are blinking but nothing happens. Almost five minutes i waited as holding down power button but phone does not power off anyhow. i tried all methods like vol down + power, vol up + power and both volume keys + power. But really nothing happens, just blinking back and home buttons. That's all.
I can not simply power off device. :crying:
I also tried boot device via fastboot commands but it says "waiting for device" means computer does not recognize device.
Guys, i need an urgent help. Please...
just keep trying to reboot via holding power or power+vol down. if it doesnt reboot after 30 sec or so let go then try again. if that doesnt work you will have to wait for the battery to die. once you get to bootloader use all in one toolkit to erace cache. then boot to recovery and you rom should be there if not boot back to bootloader and sideload rom

First thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunatelly, power+vol down does not work at all. Maybe i tried 50 times.
Anyhow, after battery die. How can i boot into bootloader. I mean, can phone be charged again in this situation? Also, even if i manage to boot into bootloader or recovery how can i put custom rom file into phone. Actually, i did not use sideload or whatever you mentioned before.
I am serouisly confused now and don't know what to do.
Anyhow, as you said, firlst i need wait to battery die i think. Then i will report back whats happen.
Thank you again btw.

yes your not the first person with this problem. hold power+vol down to get into bootloader. press power button in bootloader to get in fast boot mode. use all in one toolkit to erase cache and side load rom. i recommend all in one toolkit because it automates the process. just select the option then follow on screen steps
Good to hear that i am not the first person That means somehow there is a solution i beleive. Still waiting for battery die. even i had 50 percent battery at the begining but still it holds on I never say again htc battery is bad
I exeprienced that stucking on boot logo several times before with my other htc phones but holding power + vol down/up worked always. This is the first time for me that i faced with power button can not power off device.. Well, ,i hope i wish i can handle out this problem. Definetley with your help.

I am having the same problem and don't know what to do :crying:
Today I just got my One. Unlocked bootloader, rooted, flashed Android Revolution rom. Everything worked fine for a while... I wanted to reinstall the rom because I wanted to change some options in the installer - I did not wipe because it was the same rom (big mistake I guess!!). After making the installation option changes, when it was done it proceeded to reboot but now I am stuck in a white HTC logo boot loop hell... (with the red text at the bottom that says "this build is for development purposes only" etc). Holy crap I never had a phone that I could not remove the battery. I cannot get this back into recovery or ANYTHING, it just keeps looping... computer recognizes it, no problem with drivers or anything it just doesn't stay connected long enough (because of the constant looping) to be able to use the toolkit.
PLEASE any advice?? Can't even shut it down omg. Do I have a $600 brick here? :crying::crying:

Did you read the other posts in this thread? The way you do a "battery pull" on this phone is to HOLD the PWR + VOL DOWN button for ~15seconds. Your capactivie buttons will blink, too. On my device, it took exactly 15seconds to reboot. There have been some reports of some phones that get so stuck that you just have to wait until the battery dies and charge it back up.
Alternatively, if the computer is recongizing it, try to adb reboot recovery to try and get into the recovery.

hi again. this morning my battery finally out. Then i put my phone to the charger and started it in fastboot mode( that is a good new) Then i left it for 20-30 minutes to charge a little bit for flashing custom rom. Then i went to recovery and started adb sideload. Sideload was succesful and finally came to aroma installer of trickdroid. I chose my installation options and started to flash rom but process was frozen on 10 percent. It was saying unmount system, unmount cahce and both of them has notification as "already unmounted". But installation was not going on. Then again i tried to go back fasboot mode again by press and holding power+vol down but unfortunatelly lights are blinking but nothing happens again. I think i need to wait to battery die again.
Isn't it quite weird? Why power+vol down combination does not work for me anytime? So, do i need to wait for battery die in every frozen? Do you have any ideas or comments ?
Do i need to go back to stock first ?
EDIT : Battery was out again and i tried once more. This time installation (trick droid) was successful but it frozen at the end this time. And unfortunatelly i can not restart (power+vol down) it again again Holy crap, i am really pissed off with this problem.
