[Q] Error when try to download apps from marketplace - Nook Color General

Hi everyone. I am running Phiremod 6.1 on my nook color from an SD card but I cannot get anything to download from the marketplace. Everyone time I try to install an app I get a force close with the error message "The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly". Any ideas on what might be causing this or how I can fix it. Thanks!

i had the same problem when using any cm7 nightlie which is what phiremod is based on.. i installed cm7.0.3 and market has worked perfectly

Is this the very first time you're running NC off an SD? Or has Phiremod been running stably before?
No sure if it's related, but there's alot of discussion relating to the brand of SD cards making a big difference to stability.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633
In summary, you may want to benchmark your SD card or try a SanDisk and see if it helps.

Try first clearing cache from Settings->Manage Applications->Market and if it doesnt work, try also with Uninstall Updates for Market.

Thanks everyone. I will try the suggestions. I especially found the Micro SD card Brand discussion interesting as I am running on a Transcend Class 6 8GB card. Maybe I will try the Sandisk card instead. This is the first time I have tried running Phiremod on my NC. Thanks again for your help. I will update the post as I try the difference suggestions and let you know how it goes!

On a related note, are apps the only category I should be seeing in Market? Or should I also be able to see the Books and Movies categories? (wasn't sure if those two only show up on the website vs the market app) Running CM7 with gapps install.

I think it was a problem the micro SD card. Reinstalled using a sandisk card and everything is working great!

Can't install Google SkyMap in Cyanogen 6

Is anyone else having problems installing Google SkyMap after upgrading to CyanogenMod 6? Is this a Froyo thing in general, or just a problem with CM6? Or is it just me? Any ideas on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.
SamDaSnake
Im actually having the same problem. Did you ever find a solution?
Same thing here, I have not been able to get it installed using Eugene's kanged Froyo and now same issue with Cyanogen 6.0.0.0
Had this issue on my gf's droid incredible, it was the test 8 version of cm6, I wiped and put it to RC3 and skymaps installed just fine.
CM6 kills my phone so I'm still on 5.0.8
The latest CM6 on G1/Dream, can't install Google Sky Map. The rest of apps were installed fine.
BTW, initially I couldn't install anything until I wiped my phone (upgraded from CM6-RC).

same here......im thinking its a froyo problem........
I had no problem installing it, though I may have done it while running RC3.
I have Chromatic 4.5 which is based of CM6 stable and Google SkyMap installed and runs OK.
So I don't think it's a froyo problem.
I've had a few apps not install on CM6 Sky Maps being one of them. The fix i found that worked for me was:
1:set preferences to install to internal memory
2:unmount the SD card
3:install the apps
4:remount SD
5:move apps from internal to SD.
Like I said it worked for me, your milage my vary.

Tried this and I could indeed install it, Only I wasnt able to move it to my SD-card. I take it you moved it via settings>applications>Google Sky Maps>move to sd-card

Vogue Angry Birds

Hey guys, I dont have my XV6900 here to test, but can anyone tell me if our phones will play Angry Birds (I have latest kernel and Fresh Froyo).
Thanks in advance....
I tried installing it with Fresh FroYo 2.2.1 and the SD card unmounts during the install and it fails :/

well, this happens with other apps to ie. Tic Tac Toe
sooo who nows where the problem lies, the app, sd card, or phone?
It would be awesome if I could get this installed for my little crumbcrunchers to play, and me of course...
Got it installed wth Icubus r16... i got as far as trying to load the first level. No go. It just kinda hung. If you mute your sound settings you'll load up a lot faster... but still... i don't think we have the horse power to run this thing.
LOL, i already play it since beta release, no hang up...

I'm using the "not so super froyo" rls: 10/17 and for my kern: voguimg-240x320-2.6.32-froyo-09-10-10_23.nbh... I edit the kernel to run in 320x480 and I set it to overclock at 520. I have a 4gb sd card in...
Hope that helps. My game runs very well. Although I have noticed that there are these white walls in the game and it's very difficult to see them. I assume it's just because the vogue's screen is ****:/

OK I matched your setup to the letter, tried to install from SD and got the unmounted SD card issue, and when i soft reset with the SD card in the app is not in the tray, and then the manage programs area its a grey icon with SD over it. Same if I install via adb.

Do you use astro and then open it in app manager? Maybe it's more of a problem with your sd card :/

I'm running it on the vogue with incubus rls 15. mine did the same thing as far as unmounting the sd during install. I re installed it back to back and then rather than exiting just hit open and it worked and placed the game icon in my apps drawer. Also as a side note when the game introduces a new bird or freezes before loading a level I just hold in my camera button to bring up the recently used items and click angry bird again this brings up the pause screen and i just hit replay level and all is good.
Mine hangs
I have Incubus26 RLS16 running on NAND. I had to reboot couple of times my phone because the SD card got unmounted and then it didn't recognize the storage. And tried installing againg using Astro.
It loads, but when I try to start the first level, it always hangs. I haven't been able to play at all
to install angry birds unmount the sd card before installing it'll install fine, then remount and play...the latest update for angry birds in the market...released...today or yesterday fixed my graphic problem (white terrain and background) which made it harder to play. there is some lag when playing mostly when the ad pops up at the beginning of a level.
I was able to find a download of this on the net.
I could NOT install from SD card.
I had Root Explorer, so changed permissions on the \tmp folder.
Copied the 14MB apk to the \tmp directory.
Installed from NAND - install went fine, no issues.
Was able to play, though its a little slow, @ 500 mhz
Another way is,
After install it, and get unmount msg,
Dont restart your phone, dont unmount your sd.
Go to Settings->Applications->Manage applications.
Choose Angry Bird and push "Move to phone" button.
Thats all.
Still get your unmount msg, just restart the phone.
Angry Bird will still remain in your phone memory and you could still play it.
Anyway, I was optimize and tweak Fresh Froyo,
now I could run it without oc. Just 400 without GPU oc too.
I just change the resolution.
i've found the latest update to be almost unplayable...it did fix the graphical problems (white terrain) but its not worth the extreme lag even running it on nand incubus rls 16, over clocked to 501mhz, with latest 11/12/2010 kernal... im going to have to stick with 1.3.5 version of angry birds unless someone knows of a some setting that might help

MicroSD card and Apps

Is there away to install apps to microsd? I am currently running HC. Thanks in advance.
Android 2.2 and above support app2sd. You need Froyo on your Nook Color for it to work.

...so are you saying this will not work on HoneyComb? Your response is a little confusing, since I stated in my post I was already running HC. So how to I make this happen?
???? When I go into settings, manage applications, applications, it does not give me the option to "MOVE TO SD card"
I'm also having this problem. I've got Deeper Blue's 04 version of HC running on my Nook. With the built-in 1.1 OC kernel, and full market support, life is good.
Life would be perfect if I could just move some of the apps to my 8Gb SD card.
When looking at the apps in Settings=>Applications=>Manage Applications, most (not all) have the the "Move to SD Card" button activated (e.g. not grayed out). However when I try and move them I always get a pop-up telling me "Failed to move application".
I've also installed Apps 2 SD from the market, but it won't move them either.
If anyone has been able to move any apps, please share your secrets

Stock NC is 2.1, Froyo is 2.2, and Honeycomb is 3.0. I how app2sd work on 2.2. I wouldn't bother with Honeycomb right now so I don't know but it should if the apps supports Honeycomb.
App2sd note,
Latest version: 1.41 (for Android version 2.2 and higher, supports App2SD)

Guide to installing honeycomb?

Sorry guys kinda new to this. Is there a step by step for installing honeycomb internally? Thanks

If you're not sure, do it from sd.

Use the monster file thread link to build a 1 gig cwr boot disk with your sd. Drag and drop that file in the v4 emmc flashable.. Follow the instructions to boot from sd, wipe system, data (boot is optional, some say they do it without wiping boot, but I myself wiped) it will crash when wiping boot, just hold the power button and turn it back on. Then flash like any rom in cwr and when its finished take the sd out then select reboot... It will take you into honey comb... Check the threads for more help

I've got HC v04 preview running on eMMC (not SD card), and for me it is very stable.
I followed the instructions over on AndroidCentral. Here is the link:

I've got access to the market, apps seem to install fine, and all my old B&N stuff is still available. Frankly I prefer the free B&N Reader I downloaded from the market to what I had with the stock Nook. Even better, the kernal included in the package was already OC'd to 1.1Mhz, and I'm consistently getting 1,500 to 1,600 on Quadrant.
For me the total install was pretty smooth...just remember to follow instructions exactly.
FYI: The above link also includes instructions on installing to an SD card.

did u do anything special to get your market to run? I cannot get it to download anything and after I cleared the cache stuff, the market wont even open.
When I first installed HC, I had the dreaded "market problem".
I can't find the original post to give proper credit, but I followed the following steps which resolved the problem.
Go to Settings=>Applications=>Manage Applications and select Google Services Framework. Under Storage, press the "Clear Data" button, then "Force Stop".
Still in Settings=>Applications=>Manage Applications, select Market. Press the "Force Stop" button.
Then reboot and it should work...at least it did for me
not for me lol, just keep getting a error has occured try again later, thanks tho.
I strongly advise flashing the internal memory instead of using the SD. You can try the SD route once, but if it fails, don't waste your time. I've bought 4 different microSD cards just to try getting honeycomb working on NC. I read some of the recommendation in xda and purchased the cards with higher success rate. But after 4 days of fruitless efforts, I gave up today. Then I thought, what could go wrong, I don't use the Nook to read anyway, and went on to flashing the internal memory. Holy S*it. 10 minutes and I got honeycomb running.
I have somewhat reached a standstill in my NC endeavors, because I do want to continue using the device as an e-reader and keep the B&N in store features + stock apps that come with the Nook. I also really want to run Honeycomb from eMMC (class 4 sd card is cool for a bit but not really cutting it in terms of every day usability), as I am an android enthusiast, and this was one of the main reasons I bought the NC in the first place. Does anyone know if it's possible to do a dualboot of the two, without severely messing something up?
Another option I can imagine is having the stock Rom running from an SD card for B&N needs, if that is known to work any better. I'm hoping someone with more knowledge can add to my initial brainstorming of possibilities for this guy...
I had the same market problem. Then I flashed this zip through Clockwork Recovery and that seemed to fix things. Make sure and do the v003

[Q] Randomly occurring write errors

Hello everybody,
After installing Evervolv Android 4.3.1 using "The Easy Way" tutorial on my new Touchpad everything seemed to work just fine. I've managed to install some apps and copy some stuff onto the sd card. However after few days I've started getting random write errors from different apps. This can appear just after start up or hours into the day and goes away after rebooting or sometimes by itself after a while. When it happens it affects all apps, however I still can install new of them from play store and even move them from internal memory to sd card.
I've found a tread on Rootz Wiki which advises to use something called fsck_msdos but it doesn't really tell how to do it.
Any other suggestions much appreciated.
