Dell Streak 7 Wifi Rooted - Dell Streak 7

I rooted my new Dell Streak 7 Wifi (purchased straight from dell) using SuperOneClick without issue. I've been using SetCPU to manage clock speeds and save some battery and also went through and removed a bunch of the stock apps. I was looking at loading DJ_Steve's StreakDroid7 v1.3 (GPU edition) but had a couple questions before taking the plunge.
First off is this ROM compatible with the Dell Streak 7 WIFI or only the 4g version?
Also I'm use to the Galaxy S line of phones and always have ODIN ready to go with stock image files in case I screw anything up. I saw the post for how to use NVFlash to restore the Dell Streak 7 but it looks like the files are for the the T-Mobile Streak 7. Can I use these on the Streak 7 WIFI to get it back to stock or will this not work the way I'm thinking?
I've been searching the forums for a while now and haven't found a definite answer so far and don't want to move forward without knowing, so any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know if it'll work on the WiFi model, but it probably will. Do a backup and try it out; let us know how it goes. Also, you can enable RIL on StreakDroid7 and stay as a WiFi tab.
Off topic- how's battery life for you? Cell standby eats up a lot of my cycles, so I'm wondering what life is like with WiFi only.

Battery lasts a long time in standby, but when using the tablet to watch video's or playing games (I love playing ScummVM games on this thing!) It tends to drain pretty quick though.
What is the best method to backpack the device so I can get back to stock if I need to after flashing streakdroid7?

which version of SuperOneClick did you use to root your Dell Streak 7? I tried it seems all of the versions and it didnt work. My dell streak is 2.2.2 build 15420
So to backup your stock rom (I have gone back to stock for now) I used Clockwork Recovery tool. Here is the step-by-step I used to load Clockwork Recovery Tool and backup my stock rom

Hope this helps

I used SuperOneClick v 1.9, but I had to go find an old, RageAgainstTheCage exploit for it (psneuter wouldn't work). Give it a shot.

I used SuperOneClick v1.9.1 on mine. My Dell Streak 7 is the WIFI only version straight from Dell and is running 2.2.2 but the build on mine shows 15799.
I knew how to use the backup in Clockwork recovery. I was more wondering if there was something like ODIN for the Streak 7 where I could just take some stock image files and just overwrite the whole system to an out of the box state.
I've created a backup now and I'll be testing out StreakDroid7 v1.3 shortly. Thanks for the info!

So far so good on StreakDroid7. It's fast at stock speed and stable so far. I'm going to try OCing in a bit.
One thing I noticed is qik won't load and tries to update but fails saying to update from the market, but when I go to update from market qik doesn't show up (I'm assuming this was packaged with the t-mobile version). Is there any way I can update this manually?

Well it runs great, even when overclocked to 1.6ghz except for the artifacts. Even at 1.05ghz they are apparent. What's strange though is the artifacts are only showing in the portrait orientation. When I have the tablet in its landscape orientation I don't see any artifacts.
Any idea why this is? I would have expected the artifacts to be apparent in both orientations.

Hey guys, if anyone's not to busy I could use some help. I'm not a total helpless fool seeing as I have rooted several phones around my school; at the same time I know there is still much to android I stand to learn. long story short for some reason i cant get adb to recognise my dell streak 7 wifi. I've tryed a few phones and my adb driver picks them up right away. I've downloaded and reinstalled everything including the "drivers" for the dell. The dell sync software works fine, but im still at a loss. Any help would be great, my end goal is to upgrade to HC.

I had to go to other verisons under the dell streak driver on their support site. Try the ones at this link:

[KERNEL] [TEST] CyanogenMod 6

A test/stock anykernel for CM6 inc is up on rom manager under the Koush section. Please test it out and let me know how it compares. I am working on tracking down some instability issues.
Having issues with built in tethering says error. Pre 9 seems to work however after toggling wifi.
Anyone else?
Used it for a day...
I'd have to say one of the biggest downfalls was that it didn't have most features within the kernel enabled. I didn't notice any immediate problems even with the stock kernel, unless what I ran into (described below) might be involved.
When trying to initially download the new kernel via ROM Manager, I was in a location where cell was -120 dBm (basically non-existent) but I had Wifi. Wifi always seemed to take forever to link up, unless I went into settings (then it'd find the AP immediately and connect). ROM Manager basically said it couldn't do anything, despite having Wifi. I don't know enough about the inner Android workings to know if that's unrelated or not.
With the new one I noticed mainly I had very few governors to work with. TBH I only spent a day with it because I couldn't stand how often I ended up having to charge it. I don't OC so that sort of thing has never been an issue - just UC
Edit -- I should mention I'm using 2.15.00.09.01 baseband and CyanogenMod-6-09202010-NIGHTLY-Inc build. Haven't tried newer dailies yet.

Everything is good for me with this kernel. No issues. Flashed it last night.

At the moment, I'm using Miui but wanted to note that this is the only kernel which allows Pre-9 Wifi tether to work on Miui (in my hands, King's #1 and #2 AOSP kernels gave me errors with Wifi Tether). Thanks for providing this kernel, Koush. Will give it a try with CM and see how that goes.
I had a soft reboot last night with this new kernel while I was on facebook. 0 wifi used.
Radio 2.15.00.07
Not sure if it's the kernel or just the latest nightly, but I'm loosing my data connection quite often. Otherwise, its running great.

My built in wifi tethering isn't working either....sad day. I was loving how fast my phone charged
New version, number. 11 is online, testing now.
I haven't had any problems with this kernel yet even on wifi. I have also noticed decent battery life.

Funny, I'm running the test2 on Ruby as well. Been rock stable for 4hours. Practically a record for my phone on Ruby. Hope it makes it through the night.
Using the "test2" kernel.
Built in tethering works for me.
I'm running the 9/27 nightly.
No other issues so far.
P.S. I would love if internal memory was mounted properly in Windows.
Does anyone know if this new kernel is underclocked?

Another question would be, does anyone know if test kernel #1 or #2 is the test kernel in rom manager?

#2 is running at default clock.
So far looking good on test#2 for me (9.26 nightly). I just had a meeting in a location where the phone has frozen up nearly every time I was running CM 6.02 or any previous build and it worked fine. If I make it out to lunch, then back home later today without a freeze I think we may have a winner. Or at least I'll have a winner...
I grabbed the test kernel on friday night via the ROM manager, am I running the latest test, or is there a new one with the same name? In other words do I have to redo it to get the test #2 I am seeing comments about?
I am running test2 and my only issue is with wifi cutting out and erroring out when running things like streaming media in the background, but no reboots. Tt just cuts out the wifi, and resumes relatively well upon turning the screen back on. For some reason the screen being off sets off a timer that cuts out the wifi after a while. I've tested this with both Pandora and Slacker. No cut outs when running over 1x CDMA (3G doesn't work in my office) except when my signal becomes nonexistant.

Need for speed problems?

Anybody successfully been able to buy and use NFS. got it on the market for 99 cents on sale.
running darky's 7.0 w/ xcal kernel 2.4
force closes, i'm able to select a car, etc, but then it just plays music on a black screen.

Got it today, runs fine on a stock 2.1 ROM.

It runs great on the leaked Foyo ROM as well. Can you check to make sure it is on your internal SD? I tried to run the files from my external SD, and went into boot cycles. Hope that helps.
Works great for me on Cognition 2.3b7 I have the bought version and the early version that was leaked a couple of weeks ago, 1.0.4 and they both run without an issue.
Im running darky V6 with setirons kernel, and it just hits the splash screen, the music plays, one out of every 5 times I can get to car select and it crashes. I dont get a FC message or anything. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling also, and restarting the phone. The data it downloads is on my internal sd and everything. I have no idea what the issue is.

How odd... I wonder what the issue is. I mean it starts up, then just exits. Hmmm....
same here
same issues here with 2.2.1 based roms. i could play once running Cronus.
Grab somewhere APK from Galaxy Tab - it's working for me perfectly
Beware: 120mb size...
Im wondering if it has something to do with the market. As in, because we are using the different baseband version, the market is trying to give us the copy made for snapdragon chips.
I guess to confirm this, what version of nfs shift do you all have? I think in my many wasted google searches I saw different versions for the phones that use the snapdragon chips.
It's not a market issue... It's a NFS game issue - version 1.0.56 worked, but .58 not
So I dont know if anyone was able to fix this, but I did find a version for the tab and its working great now. I can't share it on here, because I know its warez or whatever it's called, but mine works great now. I will add that I paid for the game, just had to find a copy that actually worked.
mine works fine and im running firebird 2.2 no problems whatso ever
I bought it during the sale and haven't ever gotten to play it either. I put a support request into EA, but 2 weeks later, I got a canned response (what's you phone, OS version, etc.... info that as already provided). I'm disappointed, since this was my first and so far only market purchase... I can confirm that it bombs on Xcal's and speedmod kernels, does anyone have it working with a newish rom (2.2.1)? If so, what kernel and game build are you running??
Mine works fine on phoenix, never have had a fc on this game.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy Tab/Flashing a ROM

Hi, i have a Verizon Galaxy tab. I was interested in flashing a new ROM. Does anyone know if the tab has a Sim card? and which is a good ROM? Has anyone successfully flashed a ROM where everything worked? I use my tab in the car and need 3g, gps etc. But im itching to flash a kernel and a new ROM. Anyone have any advise? looks like most of them are for GSM and not CDMA. Please Help!
The Verizon (and Sprint) SGT does not have a SIM card as they are CDMA devices.
There is a small handful of ROMs available however at first it was pain getting started flashing the CDMA SGTs I've messed with.
Personally, I like oldmacnut's ROMs.
However, I'm currently running KhasMek's kernel and the stock ROM (just until oldmacnut finishes his GB port) - Also, running LauncherPro to hide that awful touchwiz interface and Dolphin Browser HD (for better browsing) - This has made the SGT loads better for me.
My advise to anyone looking to flash ROMs (even as unlikely as it is) if you're note 100% okay with the possibility of a brick, then don't flash. Personally, I've never encountered a bad flash I couldn't recover, but your milage may vary.
Thanks Addictive,
I am also waiting for stable GB roms for my VZ Tab. But I need to flash a nice kernel and a ROM. Even though the rooted tab runs nice with some tweaks......such as launcher Pro. I never used Dolphin HD. Ive always used Miren Browser since its lightweight and real quick for me BUT i will def give Dolphin a try. I might follow your footsteps and flash KhasMek's kernel and wait for Gingy. Have you noticed any significant differences as far as performance with this kernel?
The kernel is a touch buggy, but for me the performance boost was worth it. Lagfix, ext4 conversion and over clock were too good to pass up.
Using SetCPU to bump up on demand to 1.4GHz helps a bit when I push the tab (google music streaming in the background, navigation running in the background, bluetooth paired to car for audio, a friend browsing the web .... simultaneously) - Doing that stock made it angry, audio would skip and UI would lag, now its nearly perfect.
Also, I use Refresh for Android to reboot the tab automatically at 4:30 AM everyday. This alone has helped with stability/performance. Recently though, it has stopped automatically rebooting the SGT. I got the app because I was too lazy to setup a cron job to do it for me heh.
Hmmm well I have the ext 4 conversion (using OCLF) and that definitely made it much snappier but mine is running stock as far as cpu goes. I haven't experimented with overclocking...not sure if I want to risk damaging mine. But it did spike my interest since I have the same setup and have a car mount for mine. So I stream music and goole map it along with other goodies (like trapster) and sometimes it stutters. Would be cool to see how much faster it would go. And yeah rebooting always helps lol so I might flash that kernel friday. Have you tried any other ones?

[Q] Trouble with no calls or text

My girlfriends D3 has gradually been getting worse with poor reception, dropping calls, not being able to make/receive calls or texts.
Data seems to work fine. This weekend it just finally stopped being able to make calls or send texts from our home.
If i drive a few miles down the road or to a higher elevation i was barely able to call *228 to update roaming.
I can still use the browser over 3G and Wifi, just no tethering, phone or text.
The phone shows 3G and a full signal, but as soon as i initiate a call it drops to 1 bar.
Another thing we noticed this morning is that when calling the phone it goes straight to voicemail.
I had tried changing the Network mode from Global to CDMA yesterday and at one point got an error message saying "No CDMA networks were found. Would you like to switch to Global Mode?"
Phone has been rebooted and battery pulled along with some other diagnostic tests that the verizon techs did over the phone yesterday.
The only thing i had done to this phone was i applied the TBH tethering hack without root over a year ago. It worked fine up until now.
The phone has the latest System version 5.7.906.XT862 and the latest Baseband N_03.18.32P.
Im thinking of reverting the TBH Tethering hack back using the instructions in this post
I spoke to Verizon tech support yesterday and they said there was some trouble in our area, but my Droid X is still able to connect so i doubt thats the issue.
Does anyone think that an OTA update from Verizon may have screwed something up due to the TBH hack being applied?
The GF is frantic about getting her phone back. I can take out insurance for 6.99 pr/month and pay $100 to get her a new phone, but if reverting the TBH hack and maybe rooting and installing a new ROM might help, im all for it.
Any thoughts? ROM advice? Was reading up about the AOKP Build 40 ROM, but wondering if all the hoop jumping will help or if the D3 has a hardware issue that has just got progressively worse.
Wont you help a poor guy keep the peace with his lady please?
I don't think it's that. It's possible that the 3G in the area is good but 1x is crap. 3G is just used for data while calls/texts are used on 1x. What is the PRL versions your phone and her phone have?

Her Droid 3 Stock w/TBH Tethering Hack: PRL 52996
Just tried updating them both and the PRL's stayed the same.
About an hour ago i was in the middle of backing up her phone and it started ringing. I was able to answer the call and now im able to make and receive texts and calls. There must have been a tower issue. The signal still drops to 2 bars when i initiate a call, but at least its working again.
She says its been flaky for quite a while with dropping calls and texts not getting sent. Im all backed up and was thinking of rooting and trying a ROM on this. Not sure if itll help with signal issues, dropped calls or texts not being sent or received.
She was also complaining about the thing pocket dialing, and other random stuff happening like her browser launching and texts being sent etc. I saw it this morning. I picked up her phone to bring it downstairs and saw that there was a text reply box open with a bunch of jibberish typed in it. She says that sort of thing happens all the time.
Think maybe a good stable ROM might help?
After a little more research i came across Minimoto here at XDA. Minimoto Link
Seems to be the way to go if im sticking to a GB ROM. I see you contributed some to it. Would you happen to know where some step by step instructions for getting it installed on a non rooted D3 might be?
1) Root it.
2) Install Safestrap 3.05.
3) Reboot to it, create ROM-Slot 1.
4) Factory reset and wipe cache and delvik.
5) Flash the ROM.
6) Set her up with goodness.
Though if random crap is popping up, I suspect the digitizer is flaky.

Have you heard of digitizer issues with D3's before?
Any recommendations on which rooting method to use?
Do i have to remove the TBH Tether hack before rooting, installing Safestrap or Flashing the ROM?
So i take it your in agreement that this would be a good choice for a stable no frills GB ROM?
the random stuff can be from from a bad digitizer, dirt/grime on digitizer/edge or a software conflict
try cleaning screen around the edge, and/or flash rom/sbf
you need to remove bootstrap before safestrap, tbh hack should be fine

Thanks sd_shadow I think ill stick with minimo most likely. Too many dam ROMS to choose from!.
Ok so from the hours of reading i did yesterday, i found a working link for motofail. It appears it is the best (or only) way to root the D3 if on 906.
From there i thought i could just install Safestrap 3.05 which i managed to track down as well.
I never installed Bootstrap, so does this even apply? Is there a factory bootstrap included with the D3?
I believe i read that minimoto has its own tethering feature included. So are we sure i dont have to revert the TBH tethering hack?
Some great links in your signature by the way. If the digitizer keeps acting up, i may try replacing it. I did clean it last night and will see if things improve.

No

No you do not have to undo the tether hack it is a hardwear hack not a software hack and will work on any rom no matter if the rom already has tethering in it.

[Q] Latest/best rom with everything working?

Tried 10.1 no external mic/voice deal killer. Cm9 no 3/4g radios deal killer, CM10 no gps deal killer. So There are no updated roms that that keep ALL of what I consider core functionality? So I'm on 3.2 any suggestions on the best 3.2 rom? I've re-flashed at least 5 times looking for the "perfect" rom and I'm really sick of entering all my info/apps only to flash them away....
10.1 was great but losing the mic/voice interface is unacceptable. Also the voice interface on 3.2 seems similar to "google now" but not quite can it be upgraded to full functionality?
I'm currently StreakDroid-HD7R3-4G-105 tried r8 first and it wouldn't boot so any thoughts on r4/7 or is the anther rom family to that's better? Thanks for you input..

Thanks I tried to work around with a bluetooth headset, no joy. when I open voice search it crashes, am I wasting my time there? And thanks for all you efforts, it just that I'm an idiot buying a t-mobile 4g etc. I thought it was also PHONE! Stupid me, but for $120 I"ll beat it with a hammer until it gives in or dies.. So I'm trying correct my ignorance, and get either real or voip phone calls so a mic is kinda important.
Hey scott, you mean 10.1 has 4G band working? Ive been using R8 since thats the only one I know that uses 4G band for sure. Even tho the icon is broke. As for your R8 not booting, did you nvram flash R2 1st then cwm to R8?
I ended up back on r8, I tore everything out and started from scratch and it seems to be working pretty well now. I don't think I redid the partitions when I first rolled back from 10.1 the first time, and that caused all kinds of access errors.
Restore 2.2 found here was invaluable in rolling back all the way to 2.2 for a fresh start..
