Trade ipad for galaxy tab? - Nook Color General

I just had someone contact me on craigslist saying the would trade me their Samsung Galaxy tab for my jailbroken 16g wifi ipad. Would you do it? I already have the nook color (cm7) and an Evo 4g. I don't really use my ipad but my NC is basically the same thing as a halcyon tab... right?
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App

I wouldn't. The GTab is too much like the NC. Hold on to the iPad until someone offers to trade you for a honeycomb tablet. Yeah, he'll probably ask for your iPad + a little cash, but it'll probably be worth it.

I wouldn't do it either. The NC seems to be almost exactly the same as the Galaxy Tab. If you decided you did want to trade still, you should request some cash with that trade. Galaxy Tab is like 350, so I'd want at least $50 to make it equal.

They arent exactly equal
My Galaxy tab makes and receives phonecalls. Plus the built in GPS makes carrying 1 device better then carrying my nook and a phone.
Just my opinion of course.

Yeah that's what I figured. If I didn't have the NC I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Just wasn't sure with the rumors of hc coming to the g tab if it would be worth it. But then again when the source for hc comes out the NC will have it fully functioning.

I can't imagine using something as big as the GTab as my phone... even with a bluetooth headset.

If you use it with a headset, incoming calls are no problem. (and yes, it is hilarious to phone with.... tried it!)
I would trade the iPad, but then again, I'm not exactly fond of Apple products in general.

ITunes makes me mental! I jailbroke it and its still not very customizable. Yeah it has the Cydia and winterboard apps but they're just themes and apps.... I think! I don't really pick up my ipad except for Netflix and now my Evo has it and hope the NC gets it soon. When Netflix comes to the NC my ipad will just gather dust (except the speaker sucks on the NC even with a custom kernel)

Erm...you're aware many of us are happily using NetFlix on our NCs since yesterday, right?
Rodney

got both nook and Gtab -
and yes they are very similar, and in fact NC overclocked is snappier than my GTab
BUT...
i make video calls with my Gtab to friends with iphone 4
and having a camera grew on me
and convenience of location based apps
but to the original poster - opt for trade with honeycomb

I got the Netflix app for my Evo last night and it works flawlessly but not on my NC. Is there an apk I'm not aware of?

you need to edit the build.prop file on the NC

Thanks! I don't really know ANYTHING about adb so I may have problems with this. I'll look around the forums or youtube about adb stuff and figure it out. What are the chances that the NC will get the official app? That I know how to do.

Found a YouTube video on androidcentral.com that made it simple. Took 5 minutes.

It's mostly for Android, actually. The devs says "it's built like a tank" so it should be able to hold the tab (with a future add on).
The question however is good, maybe i'm not up to speed, but last time i checked the tab couldn't handle properly Wiimotes and so on.
Snes9x has already built in support.

A pretty cool idea. This would have to be used without trying to clamp in the tab though. As already stated, it would make the tab HUGE
Really itching to buy this....... waiting for cm7 to be fully operational on my Epic4G before I make the buy..... when I do I will be doing some extensive testing on my SGT :-D

just got mine. I haven't tested the keyboard mode yet, I'm writing code to talk to it in SPP mode. It works extremely well and is much better than the BGP100 (less lag, better build quality), and better than the Zeemote (better bt compatibility, better ergonomics). The price is the only downside

Should I get an Asus transformer?

What do you guys think? Been looking at it and just tablets in general. Seems as though all the honeycomb tablets have pretty much the same hardware. What are your opinions on it and any owners that know something I should know please tell me

Go for it specs wise plus its price I think it's good. But if money isn't a problem then go for the 10.1 galaxy tab.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I don't know anything about the transformer, but I do like Asus laptops.
Transformer is a very solid unit. Good screen, nice and quick, well-built.
If you get one, definitely consider the keyboard dock also. It really makes extended use (especially browsing XDA for hours on end) much more pleasant.
There are a couple of units available in the marketplace at good prices, Donharden has a great 16GB unit. Check them out!
Good luck!
Go for it, best at it's hardward range Tegra 2, compare to Thrive and Iconia..Gtab.
It's thinner and well built. I had played with it and others side by side at office depot. The Tf101 hands down.
Thanks for the input guys, I want to go down to best buy and compare still though, I hate how demo units are always all messed up and slowed down from all the things people do to them. It really makes it hard to judge.

I'm a bit biased on this (posting via my transformer now). Lol i highly recommend this tablet though, mine is rooted and is just amazing. No issues or quirks and i've had it for bout a month or so. I've made due without a keyboard dock thus far but a am looking into getting one soon.

If that's what you want, go for it.

I have a 32gb Touchpad, and a Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 is more portable, comfortable, and stable. Typing on the Nexus 7 is much easier, and faster. The battery on the Nexus lasts considerably longer than the Touchpad. The Touchpad is a nice device, but I don't use it at all now that I have a Nexus 7.
I've got a Touchpad and a 7'' Android tablet. I'm using the first one as my multimedia device and Internet browsing at home (BT keyboard + mouse) and the second one when I've to use it outside home.

On the popular topic, I bought the n7 and took it back. The screen really does feel too small after using the touch pad for so long, and performance didn't feel much different either.

If it helps, I've got both. I'm using the N7 pretty well exclusively just because it's much lighter (better for reading) and fits in my cargo pocket at work. The N7 is faster, sharper, has better support (obviously) and will have for a long time. I recently went away for a week and purposely took just the N7 to see how I would get on and was pleasantly surprised.
Downsides are, it's smaller so not as good for web browsing but is still usable, the kicker is 'no flash' since it's jelly bean. There are ways of getting round that for some things but it does mean my favourite news site is a bit crippled.

Where does the lack of flash hurt you the most? I'm seriously considering trading my TP for a N7 and I'm really worried about the web-browsing trade offs (i.e. screen size, lack of flash).

Hey since FLASH is not officially supported on jb since I started using the web browser PUFFIN it has FLASH built in its the best browser IMO. It has a trackpad built in that you can/off easily.
Its the closest to browsing on a PC I've ever seen you can put it mobile browsing mode. I've tried sky fire, opera, Firefox, stock, chrome and I like PUFFIN the best.
Checkout projectfree.tv in puffin browser compares to any other.
Puffin is also available for iOS.

Never I use my TP as a comicbook reader and I also tried the Nexus 7 two words: too small!
I love my TP!

And I'm bored....

I was really fired up about getting my N7. I got it, rooted it, flashed it, bricked it, fixed it, flashed it, and then loaded it with all of the best games and every emulator… 2 days later I’m now bored and have no use for it no more than my android phone… I might try running a virtual PC but…I’m a little sad I lost interest this quickly. What is everyone else using their tablets for that keeps them from collecting dust?
I use mine all the time for gaming, Web browsing, splash top, wifi remote control, browsing forums, news, entertaining my 2 year old, navigation, banking and managing all my rss download feeds on u torrent, I am sure there is more I do I am not thinking of too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you truly loaded up the tablet with the best games you would still be playing them and wouldn't be bored after 2 days.
u could always get a comic book or ebook reader and read some stuff idk.
I bought mine primarily to replace my older Kindle so I could get books and magazines with photos that the Kindle sucks at. I like playing Angry Birds on it, but do that mostly on my phone. I also fly my AR Drone with it. I didn't buy it to be using it all day.

Almost 5000 posts since April? No wonder you can't find life.
I just keep trying the different emulators now for gaming but i dont spend a lot of time with the tablet in my hand at all
For me it's mostly the form factor. Browsing the web, reading text, etc. is very, very nice on a 7" screen and many games just look better and play better as well. Plus I love the fact that I can install Ubuntu naively on it and basically use it as a laptop replacement if I need to.

I use mine for the same reasons others have posted here, but I also have been tinkering with integrating my nexus into my (rather crude) home automation system driven by arduino. With an arduino, tasker, a bit of tinkering and programming, I'm able to open/close my garage door and control my lights with tasker using voice commands or tasker widgets on my home screen.
I have been an iPhone and ipad guy since they came out years ago and recently switched all of my devices over to nexus ones and can't be happier with the openness. When I do get a bit bored with it, I try to come up with an idea to use my nexus to make my life easier and hopefully learn something new along the way.
Good luck with your quest. And by the way, if any one is interested, I can probably throw up a tutorial describing how I achieved this.

As far as I'm concerned my phone is for when I leave the house, while my tablet is for everything else. If you're bored, then it's not the fault of the device, it just means that you don't have enough interesting content on it.

I have a nexus 7, it has a good purpose.
My computers purpose is to run high end software such as 3ds max and the adobe design suite, as well as a bunch of games.
My laptops purpose is to sit in my room until i buy it a new power cord, then its purpose is to be sold, or something...
My phones purpose is to text and call people, and when i dont have my tablet on me its so i can play games and sketch.
My tablets purpose is so i can browse the web, read books, play games i dont on the computer, and to be a digital sketchpad until i can afford a medium intuos 5.
Bored with your tablet? Find a purpose for it such as netflix, reading books, sketching, incessantly flashing software until you break it, etc.

A worthy sucessor - Sero 7 Pro

Well, after 2+ years of watching the devs go absolutely bananas on my Nook Color, I think I've found my next 7" device. The Hisense Sero 7 Pro is a Nexus 7 clone with the addition of a back camera and an SD card slot. Picked it up yesterday, had it rooted and a debloated ROM on it within 20 minutes.
I won't go nuts with a full fledged review, but I will say that for the same price I paid in 2011 for my NC, this device is a beast. Happy to answer any questions if someone wants specifics, but there are a couple of good threads and Youtube videos out already.
I am of exactly the same opinion. I had a great ride with Nookie and all the devs, but this Pro 7 rocks

Gorira, try out the XE rom from xboxexpert here on XDA. It's just a stripped down version of stock with the option to flash the tablet UI mod, but I've been very happy with the performance. Also, his root tool is as painless as I've seen. If it seems to hang, just hit the power button to wake your screen.

Mine has been super solid so far. We've got another dev in thread talking about picking one up as well as some noobies like me picking up where we can. Honestly, even rooted debloated 4.2.1 is pretty excellent, but CM 10.1 or PA would be sweet.
Have Nook Tablet (not HD or Color) just got Sero 7 Pro a few days ago. Just rooted it with no problem. Not sure I need custom Rom yet. if/when CM10.1 is avail Will go to that. Have that on Nook and love it.
For now Rooted Stock works well. other that getting rid of ~80meg of junk apps what do you get with the xboxexperts ROM?
might just do tablet ui and circle battery tweaks.

And who needs screenshots often enough for a button on the ui? Still no forum and not a lot of dev action but still handles everything I throw at it like a champ. So nice to have a budget tablet for daily driver. My one quibble is that the Bluetooth driver sees my tone+ headset but not the mic so Skype outbound audio is ****e. I can live with that.

Hey guys. So for $150, is this thing really worth it? I was able to score an amazing deal on a Lenovo IdeaTab 2107A and sadly ruined the hardware config on it..so essentially its not a brick. Looking for a replacement so I can have something to mess with here and there but I wont be able to stand all the bloatware. How difficult is it to Root this bad boy? Is it fast enough to run standard games/apps without lag? Thanks.

How's the battery life on this thing?
