Well, after 2+ years of watching the devs go absolutely bananas on my Nook Color, I think I've found my next 7" device. The Hisense Sero 7 Pro is a Nexus 7 clone with the addition of a back camera and an SD card slot. Picked it up yesterday, had it rooted and a debloated ROM on it within 20 minutes.
I won't go nuts with a full fledged review, but I will say that for the same price I paid in 2011 for my NC, this device is a beast. Happy to answer any questions if someone wants specifics, but there are a couple of good threads and Youtube videos out already.
I am of exactly the same opinion. I had a great ride with Nookie and all the devs, but this Pro 7 rocks

Just picked mine up today and I'm very happy with it! $150 bucks what's not to like. I have noticed a little staggering here and there but I'm not going to hold it against a $150 buck tablet. Going to root tomorrow and see how that goes.

Gorira, try out the XE rom from xboxexpert here on XDA. It's just a stripped down version of stock with the option to flash the tablet UI mod, but I've been very happy with the performance. Also, his root tool is as painless as I've seen. If it seems to hang, just hit the power button to wake your screen.

Another migration from the NC to the S7P. It seemed like I had no sooner read about the device when I found xboxexpert's thread. Well. If I can root it I need to try it. Now the wife is reading her Castle books on her newly acquired NC. Unfortunately not even my youngest wants Mom's old WPDN.

Mine has been super solid so far. We've got another dev in thread talking about picking one up as well as some noobies like me picking up where we can. Honestly, even rooted debloated 4.2.1 is pretty excellent, but CM 10.1 or PA would be sweet.
Have Nook Tablet (not HD or Color) just got Sero 7 Pro a few days ago. Just rooted it with no problem. Not sure I need custom Rom yet. if/when CM10.1 is avail Will go to that. Have that on Nook and love it.
For now Rooted Stock works well. other that getting rid of ~80meg of junk apps what do you get with the xboxexperts ROM?
might just do tablet ui and circle battery tweaks.
Overall very happy to get 2 cameras, BT and GPS
This Tablet has the potential to one of the hottest devices. It can play some high end games with little issues. A good example is the RavenSword game.

And who needs screenshots often enough for a button on the ui? Still no forum and not a lot of dev action but still handles everything I throw at it like a champ. So nice to have a budget tablet for daily driver. My one quibble is that the Bluetooth driver sees my tone+ headset but not the mic so Skype outbound audio is ****e. I can live with that.
Now to pimp out the nook for my mom. She's turning into quite the android fan!
I think I'll have to pick one of these up. How do we petition for a board?

Hey guys. So for $150, is this thing really worth it? I was able to score an amazing deal on a Lenovo IdeaTab 2107A and sadly ruined the hardware config on it..so essentially its not a brick. Looking for a replacement so I can have something to mess with here and there but I wont be able to stand all the bloatware. How difficult is it to Root this bad boy? Is it fast enough to run standard games/apps without lag? Thanks.
Quad core tegra 3 is fast enough for gameing
Not hard to root d/l rars (search thread for link)xtract on PC.
Load drivers
Plug in tablet
Run script
Unplug

Just picked one up today. The first one the guy pulled out of the case was a return, so I was able to snag it for $120. So far it seems real solid. I would have definitely paid the full $150 for it, but at $120 I couldn't pass it up.
How's the battery life on this thing?

Definately worth it.. Only downside is after using one for a bit you'll think your GNex is too small!
Technology is never an investment. Two, three, six months later the latest hotness is two years old and worth a fraction of what you paid. Don't buy something as an investment and expecting to recover any expenses in the world of Technology.
As far as being worth the expense of being a useful gadget you will enjoy, yes it is very much worth it. If you spend any time browsing the web, youtube, games, or movies on your phone, using the Nexus 7 will make it a more enjoyable experience and not kill your phone in the process. Tablets are still limited to being media consumption devices, i.e. dont expect them to do everything a PC can, but they do have a viable need in the gap between a smart phone and a laptop or desktop.

Coming from somebody who's screen magically cracked without me dropping it, I would still say the N7 is one of the best tablets out there, hands down. Initial product release is always a risky time for consumers, and I knew that walking into it. You can say that it should be perfect from the get-go and yeah I would agree, but replace the N7 with anything else, whether it be the iPad, a TV, a Chevy pickup truck, it doesn't matter. Lemons exist, especially during the initial run. Couple that with the fact that there are thousands of people who never complained about their N7 and the greater picture becomes a little clearer. Forums by nature tend to attract enthusiasts of that product as well as negativity since users with issues tend to seek out a place to vent (forums being a nice target), whereas the majority of people wouldn't bother to seek out a place to speak highly of the product - they'd rather utilize that time USING that product. I think my opinion is further swayed to the positives because ASUS *did* fix mine under warranty. Granted, I called them a few times so they knew my level of frustration before they even had a chance to work on it, but the end result was a 100% functional fixed unit. I'm a fan.
Love my Nexus 7. Only complaint was that I was cheap and purchased the 8GB version. The 16GB would have been a better match.
Just got mine yesterday and Im loving it, its a c80, the only problem I found is the crackling sound that it makes when I unlock it or select something, only problem so far, hope not to get one of the other major issues...
I unlocked and rooted mine the day I bought it (a week ago).
All went well via RomManager Premium, until I tried flashing a Rom.
Which then took into boot loop for a day or so.
Eventually got it back to life via Nexus Toolkit (Wugs).
Now left it in Stock mode using NOVA Launcher Prime and all is good!
Best 7" Tab ever, and I used to own a Sammy 10.1 Tab.
Awesome value for money.
Thumbs up to Android/Google! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Same here. I'm so tired of seeing all this negativity through the Nexus 7 threads. My device is literally perfect. I've had it for about a month the now and love it more each day. No issues whatsoever, and receiving my Portenzo Bookcase in the mail the other day was the icing on the cake!!! I love this thing. Very affordable, and for the money, I got much, MUCH more than I bargained for. I'd gladly pay 250$ or even a bit more for a product of this caliber.

:good: and I even like it with 4.2!
I love mine too! 4.2 not so much until Devs catch up and we have Recoveries that play nice with it. It also broke ability to use USB storage devices with it. I got it from playstore when it came out. It arrived the 2nd day after. 1st thing was unlock and root. Ran stock 4.1.2 until I put on a custom 4.2 (plain vanilla )rom. I previously had Galaxy Tab 7.0+. Very expensive and I thought I was getting the best. It was OK, but my 32Gb N7 beats it six ways from Sunday in smoothness, reliability. Also the GT7 had a proprietary charge and data port/cable. It was USB but you needed a converter cable for lots of stuff. The N7 is great out of the box but awesome!! when unlocked, rooted and rom'ed. Everything just seems to work better. Movies, music, email, calendar, notes, to do's games, You name it. Now if I could just make calls on it...oh, wait, with Google (Voice?) you can I am told!
Problem with 4.2 is it messed up the sd card file partitions so that I can no longer make Nandroid back-ups. I sure it will be fixed in a few days. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the crap out of this thing.
Loved it since I bought it. Eyeing the N73G for the holidays, then the Mrs. Gets the 16.

Loving my nexus 7 as well. As a apple fanboy the nexus really has impressed me. The only thing I don't love about the nexus (android problem i guess) is that none of the browsers can compare to the Safari-browser found in the ios echo system. Sluggish scrolling, accidently clicking links when scrolling never happens to me on my ipad or iphone. Google, tweak the chrome-browser and my apple fanboy days might be over.
I was really fired up about getting my N7. I got it, rooted it, flashed it, bricked it, fixed it, flashed it, and then loaded it with all of the best games and every emulator… 2 days later I’m now bored and have no use for it no more than my android phone… I might try running a virtual PC but…I’m a little sad I lost interest this quickly. What is everyone else using their tablets for that keeps them from collecting dust?
I use mine all the time for gaming, Web browsing, splash top, wifi remote control, browsing forums, news, entertaining my 2 year old, navigation, banking and managing all my rss download feeds on u torrent, I am sure there is more I do I am not thinking of too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you truly loaded up the tablet with the best games you would still be playing them and wouldn't be bored after 2 days.
u could always get a comic book or ebook reader and read some stuff idk.
I bought mine primarily to replace my older Kindle so I could get books and magazines with photos that the Kindle sucks at. I like playing Angry Birds on it, but do that mostly on my phone. I also fly my AR Drone with it. I didn't buy it to be using it all day.

I just keep trying the different emulators now for gaming but i dont spend a lot of time with the tablet in my hand at all
For me it's mostly the form factor. Browsing the web, reading text, etc. is very, very nice on a 7" screen and many games just look better and play better as well. Plus I love the fact that I can install Ubuntu naively on it and basically use it as a laptop replacement if I need to.

I use mine for the same reasons others have posted here, but I also have been tinkering with integrating my nexus into my (rather crude) home automation system driven by arduino. With an arduino, tasker, a bit of tinkering and programming, I'm able to open/close my garage door and control my lights with tasker using voice commands or tasker widgets on my home screen.
I have been an iPhone and ipad guy since they came out years ago and recently switched all of my devices over to nexus ones and can't be happier with the openness. When I do get a bit bored with it, I try to come up with an idea to use my nexus to make my life easier and hopefully learn something new along the way.
Good luck with your quest. And by the way, if any one is interested, I can probably throw up a tutorial describing how I achieved this.

As far as I'm concerned my phone is for when I leave the house, while my tablet is for everything else. If you're bored, then it's not the fault of the device, it just means that you don't have enough interesting content on it.

My computers purpose is to run high end software such as 3ds max and the adobe design suite, as well as a bunch of games.
My laptops purpose is to sit in my room until i buy it a new power cord, then its purpose is to be sold, or something...
My phones purpose is to text and call people, and when i dont have my tablet on me its so i can play games and sketch.
My tablets purpose is so i can browse the web, read books, play games i dont on the computer, and to be a digital sketchpad until i can afford a medium intuos 5.
Bored with your tablet? Find a purpose for it such as netflix, reading books, sketching, incessantly flashing software until you break it, etc.

have you been dissappointed with the nexus 7 when you bought it or do you think you have got a goot tablet?

I bought it for christmas for my wife.
I have a Desire HD and she has a Incredible S as smartphones.
I have a Samsung Tab 10.1.
So as mobile tab or for ebooks it's the best one I think.
And it's a very good price. For a tablet in 10.1 inch you pay 400 £.
If you want to invest 400 £ buy a Galaxy Tab 10.1 otherwise a Nexus.
You wont't be wront.

I have been surprisingly impressed with my nexus 7. I bought it at launch, and I was already heavily involved with the HTC rezound and the Transformer prime tablet. I had also had two iPads so I thought I knew all I needed to know about tablets. Had my local staples not had one in stock aftrer launch or had it been more expensive I wouldn't have tried it.
But I'm so glad I did, because the 7 inch size surprisingly makes it feel, completely different from a 10 inch, and its so handy and convenient. My favorite part is the development. I set my tablet aside for a few weeks, and when I came back to it development had increased instead of slowed, so I get to flash and help work on toms of stuff.
If you have any more questions send them on but I highly recommend trying it.

You'll be glad you bought it! I had a 10" Transformer that I could never get on with let alone take anywhere! For portability nothing beats it and you will appreciate the pure Android experience for sure. I also thought I'd miss the extra few inches but in fact I prefer it because it makes typing and playing games much easier as your not stretching to use the controls all the time nor are you fed up of how heavy it gets in your hands although I appreciate that depends on what 10" you have.
Enjoy it!
I'd say go for it. The Nexus 7 is easily my most used gadget I own.

Galaxy tab2 10.1 is only £230'ish and the note 10.1 only £320'ish
Anywho, N7 is the best bang for buck on the market. Yes it has its flaws (well some do) but it's still a tidy, fast machine.

As a guy who has owned probably half a dozen different android tablets, this guy has said most of what I would have about the n7. At home I use it more than both my laptop and Nexus phone. Out and about I'll always take it with me in preference to my laptop as it's small enough to be very portable yet still large enough to be much more comfortable to use than my phone.

These 'should I buy' threads always make me laugh.
Why not go ask in an ipad mini forum if you should buy a 7 over a mini.
I'm sure they'll all say a 7 :what:

Asking this question in a forum full of people who already own the device seems a bad idea as far as getting unbiased opinions goes.

OK how about this just compare all the other tablets to the n7. Then look at what you get for your money. Hands down the n7 is underpriced for what's inside. The only thing that it lacks is a SD slot.
Seriously why did we get the n7. Sure its a nexus but we got it because of the price its cheap and gives you the most bang for your buck.
