should i buy? - Nexus 7 General

im tempted to go buy a nexus 7 today in town for £190
do you guys think its worth its money ? i have a galaxy s2 on cm10.1 jellybean 4.2 so i guess its just a bigger version of my phone
have you been dissappointed with the nexus 7 when you bought it or do you think you have got a goot tablet?
cheers guys!

I bought it for christmas for my wife.
I have a Desire HD and she has a Incredible S as smartphones.
I have a Samsung Tab 10.1.
So as mobile tab or for ebooks it's the best one I think.
And it's a very good price. For a tablet in 10.1 inch you pay 400 £.
If you want to invest 400 £ buy a Galaxy Tab 10.1 otherwise a Nexus.
You wont't be wront.

I have been surprisingly impressed with my nexus 7. I bought it at launch, and I was already heavily involved with the HTC rezound and the Transformer prime tablet. I had also had two iPads so I thought I knew all I needed to know about tablets. Had my local staples not had one in stock aftrer launch or had it been more expensive I wouldn't have tried it.
But I'm so glad I did, because the 7 inch size surprisingly makes it feel, completely different from a 10 inch, and its so handy and convenient. My favorite part is the development. I set my tablet aside for a few weeks, and when I came back to it development had increased instead of slowed, so I get to flash and help work on toms of stuff.
If you have any more questions send them on but I highly recommend trying it.

You'll be glad you bought it! I had a 10" Transformer that I could never get on with let alone take anywhere! For portability nothing beats it and you will appreciate the pure Android experience for sure. I also thought I'd miss the extra few inches but in fact I prefer it because it makes typing and playing games much easier as your not stretching to use the controls all the time nor are you fed up of how heavy it gets in your hands although I appreciate that depends on what 10" you have.
Enjoy it!

I'd say go for it. The Nexus 7 is easily my most used gadget I own.

Anywho, N7 is the best bang for buck on the market. Yes it has its flaws (well some do) but it's still a tidy, fast machine.

As a guy who has owned probably half a dozen different android tablets, this guy has said most of what I would have about the n7. At home I use it more than both my laptop and Nexus phone. Out and about I'll always take it with me in preference to my laptop as it's small enough to be very portable yet still large enough to be much more comfortable to use than my phone.

These 'should I buy' threads always make me laugh.
Why not go ask in an ipad mini forum if you should buy a 7 over a mini.
I'm sure they'll all say a 7 :what:

OK how about this just compare all the other tablets to the n7. Then look at what you get for your money. Hands down the n7 is underpriced for what's inside. The only thing that it lacks is a SD slot.
Seriously why did we get the n7. Sure its a nexus but we got it because of the price its cheap and gives you the most bang for your buck.

Definately worth it.. Only downside is after using one for a bit you'll think your GNex is too small!
Technology is never an investment. Two, three, six months later the latest hotness is two years old and worth a fraction of what you paid. Don't buy something as an investment and expecting to recover any expenses in the world of Technology.
As far as being worth the expense of being a useful gadget you will enjoy, yes it is very much worth it. If you spend any time browsing the web, youtube, games, or movies on your phone, using the Nexus 7 will make it a more enjoyable experience and not kill your phone in the process. Tablets are still limited to being media consumption devices, i.e. dont expect them to do everything a PC can, but they do have a viable need in the gap between a smart phone and a laptop or desktop.

2012 Tablet Comparison, is Nexus 7 better?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying the nexus 7. Came across this article that compares all the current tablets. Is the source accurate? Should I buy the 16gb or 8gb one?
Source
Specs look about right, except I think the Kindle fire has 1024x600.
For it's price and size the nexus 7 is the best. If you want full sized go for the transformer infinity.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Get the 16gb version asap. This device rocks. Very fast across the board.
there are a few not on the list dropping shortly. If you have 500 dollars i suggest Huawei media -pad 10 , 200, tegra 3 acer a110 similar nexus 7 less screen resolution but does has sd card slot and hdmi port. Might research more before you decide. and the nexus will get best support and development. so cant go wrong there either.
What do people think on how the n7 compares with Motorola xoom2 8.2 media edition which can be picked up for around 200 UK pounds...and will also receive the jb upgrade?

Given that you are asking on XDA...the Nexus 7 is guaranteed to have a massive development following. Other tablets are hit and miss. For example, the A500 has way more development than the A200, event though the A200 was one of the first ICS tablets on the market. What is especially weird is that the A200 has an unlockable bootloader and the A500 does not. But by the time the A200 came out, all the devs already had an A500. Acer tablets are very close to stock google, and they are pretty good about updates, but you never know where the development will be. So the A110 may be a great tablet...but given the massive presence the N7 has in the 7" tablet development world...I have my doubts.
It's just that i have purchased the n7 and not sure whether to keep or sell and get the xoom 2 media edition 8.2 which i can buy for a little more than the n7?

You are correct sir.
I have the Acer A100 and a Xoom. The A100 is good battery sucks so unless you can get one for around 100-120 don't waste your time get the N7. I can't really say anything bad about the Xoom is has reliable and will get a JB update. Now I think the 7inch screen is too small and personally I believe 8 is the perfect size. so I might try the Xoom 8.2 once they are cheap enough.

Get 16G
I got the 16G, would have been happier if they had an 32G option like the Galaxy Nexus phone or an SD slot but 16G is usable, I wouldn't consider 8G given that it lacks an SD slot.
The performance of the Nexus 7 is very snappy and Jelly Bean is a real improvement over ICS so if you are going to get a 7 inch tablet the N7 is definitely the way to go.
I can't find a Xoom for any cheaper than $300 still. If it was like 150 or less, it'd be bought in a heartbeat.

:good: and I even like it with 4.2!
I love mine too! 4.2 not so much until Devs catch up and we have Recoveries that play nice with it. It also broke ability to use USB storage devices with it. I got it from playstore when it came out. It arrived the 2nd day after. 1st thing was unlock and root. Ran stock 4.1.2 until I put on a custom 4.2 (plain vanilla )rom. I previously had Galaxy Tab 7.0+. Very expensive and I thought I was getting the best. It was OK, but my 32Gb N7 beats it six ways from Sunday in smoothness, reliability. Also the GT7 had a proprietary charge and data port/cable. It was USB but you needed a converter cable for lots of stuff. The N7 is great out of the box but awesome!! when unlocked, rooted and rom'ed. Everything just seems to work better. Movies, music, email, calendar, notes, to do's games, You name it. Now if I could just make calls on it...oh, wait, with Google (Voice?) you can I am told!
Problem with 4.2 is it messed up the sd card file partitions so that I can no longer make Nandroid back-ups. I sure it will be fixed in a few days. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the crap out of this thing.
Loved it since I bought it. Eyeing the N73G for the holidays, then the Mrs. Gets the 16.

Loving my nexus 7 as well. As a apple fanboy the nexus really has impressed me. The only thing I don't love about the nexus (android problem i guess) is that none of the browsers can compare to the Safari-browser found in the ios echo system. Sluggish scrolling, accidently clicking links when scrolling never happens to me on my ipad or iphone. Google, tweak the chrome-browser and my apple fanboy days might be over.

Still worth buying or aged?

A rooted Galaxy S I9000 is still pretty good, but if you can afford it I recommend you the Xiaomi MI-2.
I personally think that the i9000 is a great phone. It was my first Galaxy class and is still with me
I rooted the phone and switched over to running JellyBean (SlimRom version) and think it is just great. I do prefer the S2 just because it is that much faster, but finding it hard to part with my trusty original
Good all round phone but a little slow on some of the major games (I believe - though cannot vouch for that)

Bought my N7 for £185. Sold it a month or so ago for £130 - before the announcement of a new N7 dented the resale value some more.
That's £50 to have a Nexus 7 for about a year which is a bargain.
Might buy a new N7, might not. My HTC One is fulfilling a lot of my app needs.
