Good day to all expert
I upgrade my sgs i9000 from darkys 2.3.3 to miui 2.3.4, i noticed IMEI changes from original 053xxxxxxxx to 0409xxxxxxxx so i decided to flash back to darkys 2.3.3 and IMEI returned to its original configuration. Is there any way to fix this issue or I did a wrong procedure in flashing rom.
Please advice
Thanks in advance
could try backing up your EFS folder to your SD card before upgrading and then restoring the back up once your on miui?
what happend when your IMEI number changed?
Try this to backup your EFS before flashing:

thanks for the reply
this zip file to be used thru cwm?
Hi, I am new to xda and i'm also quite new to the flashing process. I have a captivate i896 and successfully flashed a rom on to my phone. However after doing so the phone is unable to connect to my mobile carrier. I have also tried to install a modem from the stickied thread how ever it gives me an error::
cwm 3.0.zip error
i'm going to try to flash the helly bean rom in hopes of getting that fixed.
also in the about phone section it says baseband is unknown... ive googled that and it said my IMEI is corrupted or something or other.
It sounds like your /efs folder is messed up. There's a thread in the Development section that goes through steps on how to restore you /efs and IMEI all on the phone.

I can't seem to find the thread... Would you happen to have a link to it?
also!
I'm very lost right now, still cant seem to install any modems on and i checked in the EFS folder, there isn't anything
Please check first if your IMEI shows up in the about phone and that it is the same as the one on the inside of your device. For modems there are diffrent ones depending on what ROM you have flashed so give us that info please. Lastly if your IMEI is diffrent give this a try http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...s-ii-and-other-samsung-devices-in-nine-steps/, i have not used this my self but might be what you need

IMEI shows up as 'unknown'. I flashed the latest cm10 and used the modem KG3 under I9000.
Also, I'm in Toronto, so I'm running the i896 captivate.
i rooted and installed CWM by following the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
then after when i installed cm10 the IMEI dispapeared
sorry bump. but i think the problem is that i an unable to install the modem.. if anyone can please guide me to install a modem that would be very nice. ive tried to install it through CWM but it gives me a status 0 error everytime i try

If your IMEI shows unknown in the settings menu then it has nothing to do with whether the modem will flash or not. It means your efs folder was wiped. Now you could in fact be without a modem too but you need to fix the IMEI first.
Now with updating to CM10 theres a good chance it made a backup of this for you. Look on your internal SD card for a folder simply labeled backup. If so look in it and see what it has. Hopefully it will contain another folder labeled efs. If thats the case too then all you need to do is get something like root explorer or ghost commander and copy the contents of that folder into /efs in your system.
That will fix the IMEI issue.
As far as modems go you will only be able to flash these... http://soggycashew.weebly.com/cm7miui--ics-modems.html All the rest will give errors when you try to flash.
Dears,
I have I9000b and somehow I have made a backup of my IMEI and I donĀ“t know how to use this backup to restore it.
I said "somehow" because I forgot how I did this backup.
I have flashed my phone with a ICS version (underground-B-II), after this flash the IMEI went to that famous one ending in "4000".
When I go back to the old version (Gingerbreak 2.3.4) the IMEI is back to normal, so I can make the backup when needed.
The backup I made has generated a file named "galaxys-efsbackup.zip".
My question is, how can I flash or in some other way use this file to recover my IMEI?
Thanks,
Thiago Neto
Hey guys! Need some help here.
I know there are other threads on this forum about this but I've tried everything suggested to recover my IMEI but nothing works.
The problem is that I updated my Galaxy S3 to a custom rom with android 4.3 jelly bean, everything was okay, after that I decided to downgrade to the stock android 4.1.2 and my IMEI was not recognized any more, I must emphasize that before update from 4.1.2 to android 4.3, I did a backup of the EFS folder.
I restored the EFS folder with the 9 Steps to recover your imei guide on my new installed android 4.1.2 and I still got a wrong IMEI 0049... and Serial 00000... I have followed the guide lots of times and it stills the same.
I had read that it could be a modem MG6 problem in this post ... but now I'm with with stock 4.1.2 so that's discarded.
I also notice that it seems that the android os rewrites the nv_data.bin that I have previously copied into the EFS folder, is this possible?
Because in theory it should work:
I have a backup of the EFS folder got when I was 4.1.2.
I went back to Stock JB 4.1.2 rom.
I replaced the EFS folder with the "9 Steps to recover your imei", and it continues with the 0049 ...
Technical service want to charge $ 180 to restore it but it does not seem right for me when I have the backup and I could solve it.
Guys please some help!
Dude do you have a Nandroid backup from a previous rom? If yes restore it and you should recover your imei back, then retry to flash the new rom again. It worked for me!

Why would Nandroid restore IMEI if it has never backed up the EFS ???

It depends which recovery you use!

I am aware that Philz lets you create a EFS backup on its own .
So pray tell the recovery that automatically backs up EFS in a Nandroid as it should be stickied in the faqs

Hey thanks for the response but that's another rare point, I have noticed that in other posts, and also you say, that there is a /data/radio folder but I don't have the radio folder, the only radio folder I found is /data/misc/radio but inside this one there isn't any NV file.

had the same problem when downgrading to 4.1.2 from 4.3..my IMEI was 0049..so I flashed back the 4.3 (UK unbranded) version and IMEI came back..hope this will help
Successful Downgrade to stock 4.1.2 from 4.3
I had similar issue upgraded to UK Stock 4.3 from Samfirmware ad had a terrible experience. I came across this 4.1.2 stock rom for Germany that worked with no issues as this one has MG4 modem that reads EFS2 partition newly implemented by Samsung,
Product Code: MBC
PDA: I9300XXEMG4
CSC: I9300MBCEMH1
MODEM: I9300XXEMG4
simply flash it through ODIN
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/250954845/08fe425/I9300XXEMG4_I9300MBCEMH1_MBC.zip.html
If your S3 doesn't reboot on its own, enter Recovery Mode by pressing Volume Up + Power + Home button simultaneously and then performing a Data Wipe/Factory Reset and wipe any cache partition. Then select Reboot System Now and you should be good to go.
Hope your problem will also solved as mine. Click Thanks if it works
I managed to get mine back by going back to 4.3, thought i had bricked my phone. I then went to a newer 4.1.2 as above
How to know that backing up ime by efs error? I backed up my ime. I am afraid of it's error. Because i never try jb4.3. So i never check my backup my ime too. I attend try cm11. So can i downgrade from 4.4 to stock 4.1.2 without lost ime?

It's seems like that the ROM you posted is for i9300 and not for i9305 ..
And I also like to know if I'll get any problems after downgrading from CM 11 ?

Just check the modem version used by the ROM you have used. if it is equal or greater than MG4, then my solution is hoped to work. I believe that older modem version do not modify the EFS structure therefore no worries for old ones.

Made an account on here just to confirm that this method works. I downloaded the file which contained a single .tar, flashed via Odin but came to a boot loop. So cache partition wipe and factory reset brought me back to 4.1.2 and the IMEI is all good so I can connect to my mobile network fine. Thanks for that buddy, you're awesome
Help!
I did not do a backup IMEI and now does not work network, no IMEI? Is it possible to do something?
which rom / which kernel flashed before lost your imei
because if your problem kernel related, little change but maybe your new kernel cannot read your efs info. if this; you can flash stock rom with odin.
But if you lost your imei when flash a stock rom with odin (i did once with my old note 2!!) then try to flash custom rom (DrKetan recomended) and his stock modified kernel.
i hope you fix your problem.
I did root, after some phone application hangs. After uploading new software was no longer the network and IMEI. I tried to upload the rom dr. Ketana and its kernel. Next the same.
Try to take a modem.bin from odin and flash it.
Make sure the Odin is your model.
try original stock rom via odin
Thanks helped to upload the original rom for Tunisia
