Someone willing to test this quickly, please. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, well my captivate has been broken for probably a month and a half now. My earpiece flex cable is broken, and I want to confirm that this is the reason that my phone won't work. Would anyone be able to check to see what happens when they turn their phone on with the earpiece/light sensor cable is unplugged from the motherboard? My phone goes only to the download mode screen, and it isn't recognized by a computer, and I need to figure out if it's the earpiece cable causing the problem or if there is also a problem in the loudspeaker cable.

[Q] HELP! SGS doing funny things - USB connected

Really need help guys. My SGS is doing REALLY funny things...
I just got my SGS a few days ago and so far all I've been doing is installing aps on it (no messing with rooting/flashing).
Today, I was trying to get Keis to work. I reinstalled Keis and unplugged and repluggeed my phone a few times and managed to get it to recognise.
Here's the problem, now it ALWAYS says USB connected on the top left hand corner. Everything seems ok except after a few minutes of the screen turning off, I can't turn it back on again. Absolutely no activity. If I try to turn it back on immediately after it goes off, it can come back on again.
Things get weirder. If I remove my battery or turn it off, I can't turn it back on again (it flashes a loading symbol in the middle of the screen for half a second then nothing happens). To turn it back on, I have to plug it in and wait for the charging screen to come on. THEN it comes on.
I've tried doing a factory reset but nothing changed... Is there a hardware fault? Perhaps flashing will solve the problem?
ps. When it's off, I can enter download mode but not recovery more unless I plug it in...
Sounds like a hardware problem on phone, But I beleive its more of a Grounding problem with your usb. Can you try it with another port or computer? Also does your pc/laptop have a grounding pin for its power supply? I noticed I get odd power spikes when I travel to asia as their power is not always good. You can always buy a surge protector for your computer and one for your samsung charger. Other then that see if you can get new KIEs (I Don't EVER use it as its crap and never reconizes my phone)
Also if you want to kick up a storm, get the thing replaced as it sounds like a phone hardware problem as it should not crash when you take battery out. Could be battery but better to change the whole thing.
Try activating USB DEBUG in settings. Check the option and restart.
It should solve the problem. You can UNCHECK again the option and the phone should work also without USB debug activated
It will happen again, it seem to me a problem with some USB port, or some cables, activating a *waiting for USB* option BEFORE the ROM loading
Thanks
Thanks for the advice guys. Last night it suddenly started behaving itself after the 10th or so hard reset *phew*
Very strange problem and I think I will stay well clear of Kies from now on... Samsung make a good phone but lousy software...

[Q] phone not recognized (either download mode or MTP mode)

Hi,
first off, i have searched the forums and i have googled my problem, but i think this is a real specific problem,
my phone boots just fine. but my bottom three buttons aren't working whie in software. i CAN go into recovery using the three button method. (using the home button, so it workes just fine) but as soon as i enter recovery the homebutton (and menu and back button) wouldn't work anymore.
so i thought; it is an software problem so a new rom should do the trick. at least it is a good guess.
problem being, the phone isn't recognized by my, and others, pc. whenever i connect the phone (phone "on", at homescreen) the phone starts to charge but the pc does nothing. it doesn't even show "unknown device". Also in download mode no luck. not recognizable.
Strangest part? if i start to connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect (etc.) the phone 20-30 times, there is a chance it will be recognized. this is only not the case in download mode.
i replaced the cable and reinstalled (and redownloaded) the drivers numbers of times, also i used different USB ports (USB3.0 and 2.0)
Hope you guys can help me out.

have you tried to toggle the usb debugging mode ?
Yes, tried that already. any other ideas?
bump, nobody an idea what to do?
tbh it sounds like the microusb port on the phone itself is dodgy. possible that the solder needs to be reflowed.
sounds logical, would it be possible to do this on my own? i have got a good bit of experience soldering. and is there anything i should know beforehand?
and the buttons, is it possibly in the software? or is there something else going on?
edit; it would be strange if the connector is dodgy, because every time i plug in the cable it starts charging, so atleast 2 pins are properly connecting
did u try to connect another phone ? or try to coonect it to another pc, maybe problem is in ur pc ?

[Q] Xperia Z Wont turn un unless usb connected

Hello
Recently i've bought an broken screen Xperia Z, for repair it (i got it like $300 bucks cheaper) and i was ready to buy the screen, but i battery was drained and i could not test it right, when i connected to the charger, it started red light, vibrate, then 3 continuous vibes, read on the internet, OK BATTERY DRAINED, i left it charge THE WHOLE NIGHT, and when i woke up in the morning it was orange (charging), later in the day it was green (charged) but when i disconnect it, it wont turn on anyways, when i connect it to a pc, it goes blue light (wich later i read it was fastboot mode). i read for making a repair with PCC, but it didnt fixed it, then i flashed it with Flashtool, with the latest software (wich had the Sudden death issue fixed) no luck. it wont boot. for it to boot, i have to connect it to PC and with fastboot run "fastboot continue", but most of the time, it reboots and goes redlight and vibrate 3 times then reboot, so i press the power button and it enters fastboot mode (if connected to PC) or loads charging if connected to wall charger, but it reboots again and goes to redlight vibrate reboot, sometimes it stay charging or in fastboot mode, but only "works" if connected in the USB.
when it stays in fastboot, i do "fastboot continue" and it loads the OS, and it works (well, the things i can do with a broken LCD/Touchscreen, i put my sim card and could call it, and it works, but i cant pick up the call). i can explore the phone memory etc. but if it reboots or if i disconnect the USB, it will almost always turn off. i havn't found a solution (or idea) of what can happen, i dont know if its normal since it has broken lcd/touchscreen or it definitely have a huge problem,
any ideas?
thanks in advance!
Maybe the battery is damaged, and the phone knows it and boots into some sort of safe mode to spare internal damage? When the is has booted you can take screenshots with adb if you have usb debugging enabled. Maybe try see if the os says the battery is damaged?

Well, actually it doesnt seem the battery is damaged, fisically looks ok and it holds charge, i cant debug because usb debugging comes off by default when flash stock software.

Correct me if i am wrong but does the xperia z not support usg-otg and mhl? You could rig the phone up to the tv with a mhl-hdmi cable and maybe use a usb mouse to select things, and enable usb debugging?

Nice idea, now i need to find who in this country (DR) have that adapter
i ordered the LCD screen assembly for repair it myself, but im still concerned about this, as i dont know if it will boot up anyways
my phone right now isnt booting. but as i cant see images i dont know what is it showing.
i noticed the touch screen is working indeed. (when booted, it plays sounds when tapping)
i will wait till the lcd assembly arrives. any ways, any other ideas on what may happen?
the ex-owner of the phone said it started like that when it fell and broke the lcd.
OK now, i've installed the LCD, the phone works, its ON, BUT the Volume Up button and the Power Button does not work when the phone is ON,
the Vol UP button seems always be pressed cause when i press the power button for some seconds, the Phone restarts and not power off or lock/unlock
Service tests: None of these buttons where recognized.
any ideas on any hardware fixes i could try?
I FIXED IT!!
dissasembled the phone, took out the side button flex cable and the volume up button on the flex was dirty, so it was having a false contact. (wich made the button always be pressed)
I took out the yellow tape and cleaned with alcohol and a needle (its so freakin small) and put the tape again and assembled the phone and voila! IT WORKS OK!!
Yes the vol up button pressed means u get fastboot. Now that you fixed the problem and repaired the phone enjoy. Btw nice job getting it up and running.

Xperia V stuck on fastboot

Hello,
Recently my phone dropped and half of my touch screen stopped working. I have disassembled my phone just to try if the old lcd will work when I plug the connector out and in again. I discovered that no so I have ordered the new LCD. During the reparation I accidentally broke coaxial cable between the antenna and motherboard so I ordered the new one. Now phone worked, but there was no phone signal but display and everything else worked just fine. I have disassembled the phone again when the new coaxial cable arrived but I have discovered, that I have bought bad one because it did not work. So I left the phone disassembled and wait for another one.
After I assembled the phone with the second coaxial cable my phone does not show nothing on the screen, even on the old LCD. When I connect phone to the pc I got instantly to the fastboot and I can get out of it. After fastboot reboot I get again to the fastboot.
Sometimes the LCD powers up but does not show nothing, and when the phone is in the charger the diode is red.
Does anybody have any idea how can I fix this problem?
I have tried to boot the phone without camera, speaker, antena, but nothing worked.
Anyone?

i8200 all working but black screen

Sorry guys if this mentioned before but my dad brought his i8200 to me last night saying phone went to a black screen a while ago. Let me explain the situation;
Phone boots up, works, if I put my sim card on it, I can call myself however during this whole time phone screen is black and unresponsive.
I tried to flashing official firmware via odin which didnt help. I dont know if it is related but when I connect phone via usb cable to pc I see it is popping up in "my computer" tab but I cant look into it because it is locked. However at the same time odin recognizes the phone which seem odd to me. Any help would make my old pal happy.
I know it is a fairly late reply, but have you tried opening the phone up to check the connector and cable going to the screen?
I am in a similar position, but our S3mini is even less alive. So I just opened it up today. I used this site with the remark that the speaker (the one that is against your ear when making a call) is held by stickytape so needs very careful prying loose to prevent the flatcable from being damaged.
