Would using a usb extension cord (male to female) with the oem charger lengthen the battery charge time?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
No, it shouldnt.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Physics-wise, yes. However, the difference depends on the length of the extension. I think the original usb line is very short, so I use an extension. The 1-meter usb extension works fine, you won't notice the difference. I've tried a 10-meter extension and it still charges, though it didn't charge to full even when left overnight. (the higher resistance in the longer wires makes charging real slow).
I have 2 usb extensions that i use whenever i charge my tab depending on how far i am from a wal socket. One is a usb extension that came with my transcend flash disk and the other is a 5 meter usb cable i bought from cdr-king
I have two extensions as well. One which came with my flash card reader which is relatively short and the other from cdrking which is 3 meters. Can't seem to figure out if it charges slower or not since when I use the extensions, I actively use the tab.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
For me it charges fone with or without extensions, though i hardly find a difference in charging times since i use the tab while i cahrge it.

Just got a Tab but I bought it off of someone who couldn't find there charger so I had to find one locally quick and the ONLY store that had it in my area was Verizon but it wasnt a Samsung branded OEM charger, It was a Verizon charger that was suppose to be the same but It doesnt charge via USB and Im wondering if for some reason its not suppose too? It charges USB when the Tab is off but when its on it doesn't? I can only charge it via wall charger when its on? So, is That normal? Or, does the OEM USB charge it while its on and this Verizon one is just messed up? Thanks.
Yeah. I got the Samsung Charger. Charging through USB from a computer is super slow to useless.
Only plugging to a wall provides sufficiently speedy charging.
The Tab is quite greedy for power and using either the USB port on a PC or a low Amp rated Mains USB charger will result in either the phone charging very slowly or not responding whilst under charge.
Charging the Tab using the USB and a PC, well there's nothing you can do about it as the USB standard only distributes 0.5 amps (500 milliamps) of power through each port.
Mains chargers however are rated higher but most common one's only have a Max of 1.0 amp.
What you need is a charger that has the capacity to deliver 2 amps.
Check Google & Ebay, there are a number of chargers available rated at 2 amp.
So usb charging while the tab is on is impossible, right? The charger charges fine plugged into the wall, I just needed to know if it not charging via usb while the tab is on was normal, and from what I get from what your saying is that it is normal, it will not charge usb while the tab is on... thanks.

No, I didn't say it was impossible. I said charging via the USB port on a PC will either be very slow or may not respond whilst under charge, it's certainly not the best method. It's just that with only 500 milliamps of power trickling through the USB port, the second you start to use the Tab in anything that requires a decent amount of power you are not going to get any charge.
The only way I find an ability to charge the Tab under a USB connection when connected to a PC is to let the screen on the Tab turn off and not to touch it. It will still happily communicate with your PC and send/receive data but it will take a much, much longer time to charge that's all.
I gotcha, so...when my tab is on it says not charging in the status but if I let it sleep it actually will just very slow... I understand what your saying and thank u for your time, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't the usb cable I got to know to take it back or not...

I charge mine at night via USB to my computer. Starts around 20% by the time I plug it in. I don't power off the tab. Always has a full charge in the am.
I have a double usb cable that is used to power an external drive. I would need a female to female adapter, but this should provide more power to the GT.

Yes, providing the cable you have charges when using with a mains plug then yes, the cable is good.
If however the cable did not charge even when using it with a mains plug then definately you would have a sync only cable.
Thanks, I'm just gonna let it sit overnight with it on sleep n see what happens

To charge through your PC with official USB cable, you should make your own USB "bridge"as short the data wire while insert an 33K om resister between gcc and data wire, an 10K om resister between gnd and data wire.

Yep... I left it on the usb in sleep and it did charge so the cables fine, It just sucks that it doesnt when the tab screen is on but oh well... If theres any solution to fixing this that it charges well from usb then let me know, I know someone just commented about modding the cable to work but theres gotta be a better solution...
Sounds like u bought a stolen tab. No charger or box?

just used a spare double-headed cable from a portable hdd that fortunately has a full size usb plug on the other end. (Most have mini-usb at the drive end)
I use it with a female-female usb adapter and it works pretty well for the PC, particularly on USB 3.0 ports.
I also saw these on Amazon:
amazon dot com/Apricorn-Power-Adapter-Cable-AUSB-Y/dp/B000JIOHDE
I believe Blackberry do one for the Storm as a standard accessory as well
For the car I got a car charger designed for iPad with a USB socket that delivers up to 2.1A
Belkin has the car charger
belkin dot com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=525940
(I should say, I don't actually have this one, mine is a generic brand that also has a 1A usb socket)
cheap chargers....
Just for you to know (and anyone that its taking a look at this old posts) :

no need for all that, just plug it in computer USB and wait it take sometime but it charge, because pc USB are not powerful enough to feed 2A to the tab.

I got an aftermarket charger in my area since original ones were not available. It says on the label though it's for Galaxy Tab but the max amp is 2100mA min 150mA and the usual 5volts. Is it safe to use even if the original one says 2000A?

Yes,where did u get it,I need one
Just some cell phone shop in my area. My original question was I was asking if it's safe to use even if it has higher amps.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
technically, its ok to charge at a higher amperage, it would just entail that you would be able to charge it faster.
but there might be a risk of overheating the battery during charging and that might lead to problems in the long run.
on the other hand, 100mA wouldn't be much of a difference.
It will be perfectly fine. The units charging circuitry will only use as much current it requires, heck you could charge it from a 10Amp 5volt supply with no troubles. I have used in the past an old pc power supply rigged up to some usb sockets to charge various usb devices without any trouble. They are capable of supplying upwards of 20amp @ 5volt.
Btw, i am a qualified electronics technician of 12years experience, i have experimented a LOT.
@baskarz thanks for clearing everything up baskarz.
@prinzhernan could you post a pic of what the charger looks like? thanks

2A chargers will work with the SGT, but you need an adapter like these that I bought.
http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-car-wall-ch...ccessories&hash=item2c5c07736b#ht_3085wt_1163
Reason is the ones that says "For Galaxy Tab" chargers have resistors soldered to the usb port allowing the SGT to know it's connected to an AC adapter and to pull the full amount of power it needs. The adapters have the resistors in them allowing u to use any cheap charger. It allows you to charge with a standard computer/laptop usb port as well. I think it's supposed to charge faster than the trickle charge you get without the adapter but I have yet to try it out. There's another thread that goes into way more detail about it and even how to solder your own resisters to make your own adapters. Think it was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844&highlight=usb+charge
you can charge anywhere were there is a USB port. Just make this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844&page=3
that tells your galaxy tab to DRAW POWER from the USB port thinking it is the supplied CHARGER. you can use ANY USB port or charger with this.

Correcto, my post can help anyone who wants a 2nd charger to be permanent in office or etc
And most importantly not buy the regular 2A without the resistors inside.

Same problem, can only find pathetic skinny fragile things.
I have used this cable without any probs
AKASA part no AK-CBUB05-10BK
bought from CPC order code CS20881
Try a flat ribbon cable, Amazon Uk have them http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...onics&rh=i:electronics,k:flat micro usb cable Various lengths and colours. I use a standard 1.2mtr blue one that I bought last year.
I'm using Logitech cable for charging (got it with the mouse) and Nokia cable for PC (they are always connected, that's why separate cables), so get one of those.
I've only had problems with 3 years old Samsung cable because it kept falling out (it stays in on my SE phone)
I really doubt beefyness of the cable affects charging though. I charged my tabled on just about any cable I've found laying around in the house with no problems
The reason as to why your charge cannot keep up is most likely due to using a charger with lower amperage (i.e 1amp/1A).
As long as you purchase a 2amp charger and compatible usb cable, then you shouldn't have any more issues with draining the battery faster than it can be charged thanks to the 2amp charge rate.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is using the Asus charger that came with the device, just that the original cable split, so I need a replacement.
Have looked at the cables, might get one of the flat ones as they look good.

Just to let you know I bought the flat ones and they fit and work really well.

Trick is to get a short a cable as you can. The impedance really effects charging. The difference between my stock and a 6' cable is like a 60% drop.

Yes, it should, as long as the vehicle power outlets and usb chargers are operational and provide the correct voltage.

Hmm. Maybe there's something up with my tablet then. I found a YouTube video for the tab 10.1 that showed to plug the USB cord in just slightly to where it makes a connection to charge, but isn't fully inserted to make the data connection. This trick is working for me with the USB PC connection and car charger. It makes me think there should be a way to change a setting or something to always make it charge when plugged in.

Same here. Mine won't charge either
Sammy has been guilty of moving around power lines on their devices so that only there chargers and usb cords will work. Galaxy 2 phones and a few tablets won't charge on OEM or other manufactures cables.
SM-T217A
I don't have the problem. I use a belkin dual port car charger... one is 2.0A ... the second is 1.1A. Charge my note 3 and tab off the 2A plug. I can tell you the tab wont charge on the 1.1A... but the Note 3 will just super slow.
I have a Lenmar dual USB car charger that is 2.1A per port. That "should" charge it, but apparently Sammy blocks it. I wish there was a workaround in the firmware.

Hey,
I was Googling for a while looking for a good and long cable to charge with my Galaxy S7E,
Tho when I read about it, it says the longer the cable - the slower the charge.
Now I've heard that there ARE cables that are longer and still can adapt the Fast Charging option...
Any good recommendations?

First - how long is long? Is 2m good enough?
You got me thinking, since my understanding was that avoiding the really cheap cables, you'd be OK.
I came across this, by Qualcomm https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge/faq
- assuming snapdragon quick charge = exynos fast charge. Should do, since I think the chargers in the boxes are the same.
Q6: Does it matter what type of charging cable is used with a Quick Charge adapter?
A: Quick Charge is designed to be connector-independent. Quick Charge can be implemented with a variety of formats, including USB Type-A, USB micro, USB Type-C, and other proprietary connectors.
Quick Charge high-voltage operation is designed to minimize charging issues associated with long or thin cables, allowing for a superior charging experience, independent of cable type.
So it sounds like quick/fast charge is tolerant of long cables, so just make sure you get a good brand's
Bit of a myth,
I have 2m braided cable from Uk and a retractable flat plastic cable from China both under £3 and both work perfectly .
