Just wondering if there is a aosp style rom, would love a way to use cyanogen7 with stuff like searching for cell service, the dialer & messenger app etc removed. Is anyone aware of something like this?

I don't really know about removing those apps.. But you can try MIUI, it's got a kind of iPhone feel to it. Then you could apply this theme: http://forums.miuiandroid.com/showt...-2.3.4-(Light-and-Dark-Theme)-update15-5-2011
or
http://forums.miuiandroid.com/showt...w-version-is-ready!-Ultimate-iPhone-theme-5.5
Well by ipod touch style I just mean making it not a phone... I've moved on to a new phone but would like to remove any battery draining elements to keep using it for media/games/etc...

I was wondering if anyone had used Open Home app on their Hero and what was their opinion, would you recommend it, Does it cause any lagging any other issues? Are you able to access all widgets HTC and Android? Anything to consider before installing?
thanks for reading.

it's equally laggy as sense UI, which is bearly noticeable IMO. You lose access to HTC widgets and clocks, but retain android and a few openhome widgets. I like it better but agian I'm one of the rare few who's not a fan of rosie. I just got the hero because it was the first android for sprint
I just had a thought. I really don't like the revo's messaging app (Mms.apk)
What would happen if I replaced it with the Mms.apk from another system? Like from CM7 or something? Would I lose the ability to text message? Maybe lose MMS?
Has anyone tried this on the revo?
Felt adventurous and backed up my phone, and then tried it.
Installed the AOSP 2.3.3 Mms.apk and it seems to work.
Will report back soon with full testing info.
Well, SMS works but MMS doesn't. I tried using the Mms.apk from CM7 for the Thunderbolt but had the same problem. Anyone know how to modify a stock AOSP Mms.apk to work on the Revo?
If you want a new Mms app there's tons of apps like Go Sms Pro, Handcent and some others Handcent and Go Sms pro are the most popular ones. Both of which are free.

I checked chomp out just now and It doesn't really catch my eye and handcent doesn't either just something about Go products catches my eye.
I gave handcent another shot last night, didnt even make it a couple hours....although I hate how the stock one looks on the revo, i just like how fast and smooth it is compared to third party apps. They all get too bloated with features imo
also, go and handcent seem to consume quite a bit of RAM

Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but I still don't like how the LG app works. I love the stock android messaging app. I do not understand why carriers feel the need to get in there and fiddle with every damn thing in the OS. I almost wish Google and the OHA had pulled an Apple, and restricted the carriers from screwing with Android. I understand "open is open", but some of these OEM android systems are just horrible. MotoBLUR, anyone? -shudder-
I think it would have been good to require carriers, if they wanted to release a phone with a "tinkered" android OS on it, to also provide a ROM download to users who would like to just have a stock experience. No BLUR, no Sense, no LG whatever, no TouchWIZ..

You spelled "utter bloated crap" wrong
Here's the one that I just started using yesterday, sms and mms are working fine for me:
http://205.196.122.19/jf263azi8b1g/0ut04hvxra0rvoj/Mms.apk
It's the (very) basic mms but with a black background. I'm pretty sure I grabbed it off of http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=17790.0 but I'm not 100% sure since the download link is down on that site now. The screenshots are also on that site (v1.1)
edit: nevermind... it won't send mms

Never had any issues, don't know what some people are complaining about. There are themes but you can also just change the color of the background, the incoming font and out going font, bubbles or no bubbles and change the colors of the bubbles.. very customizable. Think someone in here made a handcent theme in the themes and apps section.

I might not have saved it but if you search within the handcent themes for "volted ice" I think I made one and saved it. Can't remember though if it was for Volted Ice or GingerFusion.

i was using friend's iphone and was wondering that is there any customizes app like intelliscreen which helps to modify the notification center/notification bar. i don't want lock screen customization i want notification customization..

it cannot be done in android as every manufacture use different method for their systemui.apk like Samsung give toggles in notification but HTC do not and like this there are so many difference so universally it is not possible but can be done for a set of custom rom, apple is the single manufacturer for iPhone and uses same method for building everything.
also there is one for cm9 roms which lets you do some modification in statusbar(don't remember the name though)
okay thanks anyways for reply.
I was thinking about this. If we choose to use a custom launcher, we will likely lose blinkfeed, right? I've got a dozen or so Apex tricks that I have come to rely on. I wonder how this will work??
I know in the past when i used a One X using a custom launcher pretty much removed all the Sense apps so I could see that happening again this time
i must be one of the only people looking forward to blinkfeed!
i almost always had a sports news widget on my homescreen (though not the main one to be fair) and for a large amount of time twitter and facebook too - to have all of that on a dedicated screen (not even a widget) should be really great for me.
I'm looking forward to blinkfeed myself. I thought more people would love that feature. I think it's great.
Sense 5 is so sexy. Why would anyone want to install a different launcher on it?

My wife is probably going to love it. I would prefer to be able to move it to off center. I'm not totally thrilled with any FB or Twitter (-Caster is my favorite on both) widget, but I use them for feeds as well. I can see liking it, providing it's fairly customizable.

I'm going to give it a go. I only use 3 homescreens currently anyway and my default one if very sparse with only 4 apps. The idea of blink feed seems good, as long as it can sync with all the stuff I look at on currents I will be pretty happy.
Still no word on the menu button for legacy apps though.
Yes, using a custom launcher will mean you'll lose blinkfeed.
The only way around that will be to wait until someone has made blinkfeed into a separate flashable zip. At that point, you'll be able to set up your custom launcher as you'd like and then I guess you'd just be able to flash blinkfeed to have the functionality of both.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
HTC Widgets only work on stock launcher, I don't see why Blinkfeed would be any different.
M.
Far as I can tell blink feed is another screen on sense. No sense=no blink. Personally I hope a dev can get rid of it. I don't need a news thing and I don't use Facebook or twitter so it seems kinda useless. Id like to see a messaging panel on it with a quick reply like on the Ubuntu touch where its in the notification.

I am looking forward to trying out blinkfeed as it now follows holo guidelines and they have dropped the horrid 3d look for a much more modern flat look and if I don't like it I will put on a custom launcher.
Does anyone know if you can move the blinkfeed to another home screen as it would in my opinion be much nicer in the middle screen so you can swipe left or right for widgets/apps
It is one of the things I like too. But I also like being able to turn off icon labels, create my on gestures, etc. in Apex. Seems like it might be kind of like switching to an iphone -- if you want blinkfeed, you lose ability to customize.
Meanwhile, I'm sittin' on my hands until I see a few audio reviews.

Hi. I pre-ordered and already have my hands on a shiny new HTC One, and BlinkFeed was not one of the reasons I bought it. One of the first things I did after getting the phone was installing Apex Launcher. I use its gestures too and I like the customizability it offers. Thankfully for me, BlinkFeed indeed goes away with a custom launcher
coming from a iOS device im looking forward on all the HTC features. iphone really gets so boring. does the blinkfeed feature use a lot of power and will using a custom launcher make the battery last longer?

My One is in for repairs but in the week I was using it i didn't notice any noticeable battery drain from Blinkfeed the the first few days battery life doesn't tend to be good as it needs a couple of charging cycles but certainly battery life is very good.
I'm a big fan of Nova I use it on my Nexus7 but i doubt I will be on my one.

hey, i'm surprised about the battery life with blinkfeed. Also the data traffic is less, in one week i had used only 40mb for blinkfeed. I think thats great.
Is there any mods to use AOSP style multitasking? I would just try an AOSP rom but i'm a bit worried about the bricking problems.

I think there are some ROMs with that as an option, but I'm not sure which ones off the top of my head. Check the OPs.
