[Q] Having trouble removing 'locations' process from batery usage - HTC Incredible S

Hi,
I have an HTC incredible s, which I bought a few days ago.
I noticed in battery usage, there's 'locations' process and it's using up to 15% of my battery.I've tried a number of things to remove it, even called up HTC, but it's still there.
Is there a way to delete it, and does everyone else have it in their battery process?
Thanks.

I'm having the same problem and also with the Calendar, Sync is disabled but it still runs on the background :S

Have you switched off gps?

Battery use mobile standby

Hi,
I have a question about mobile standby. The last few days i noticed batterydrain and tried to find the problem. Standby uses about 48% of the battery ( 1 hour 10% battery from which 48% is standby) This isnt normal i hope. My HTC Hero has about 2-3% the phone isnt rooted because i wanted to make sure there are no hardware failures.
I already tried a hardreset 2 days ago and the problem isnt gone
Is there anything else i can try except calling LG and using VIP warrenty?
i have the 10a version with 20110223 baseband

Sometimes when you install or tun a program it stays in the active processes and it eats battery out. Go to sett/apps/running apps and manually kill what you think it shouldnt be running. Dont kill google services, system apps or keyboard!

It took me 4 days to figure this out. As a former Nokia user, I thought "Use wireless networks" under "Location & security settings" meant A-GPS, but no, it means the phone will triangulate between cell towers to get your location (and is actually pretty good in it). But the downside is that it drains your battery very quickly. I think my battery life at least doubled, or maybe even tripled after disabling this setting.
Could be auto-sync too, if you have it enabled.
Funny thing is, that the original LG weather widget eats even more battery (through Google Maps) than "Use wireless networks", nice work LG!

Mine's unrooted too, and I can't see anything else under "Battery use" other than cell standby eating huge amounts of juice. Guess it's right, since the phone uses cell radio to get your location, but it sure was tough (for me at least) to figure out why cell standby was so heavy on battery.
I used setcpu with 1 rule :
Screen of :
max 312
min 216
and the result was less than 1% after 1 Hour without 3G ... My Internetflat expired so i'll test it tomorrow with 3G
I dont use location from wifi etc, i used to do so on htc hero and hero lasted 2 days medium use.
just called LG helpdesk netherlands and must say im not impressed. Totally zero knowledge of android and phones, called to times both kind of unsatisfied by the answer. New try tomorrow because i want a proper solution from them. Lucky me and dutch warrenty laws

Hi, my phone was pretty a drainer too, at least 30-40% gone after I wake up.
So what I did was I froze up apps like the F-secure, SmartShare, email...etc, tried extreme setting in juicedefender, and removed the stock weather clock. And wow, after 6 hours of idle, it just used 4% battery.
Hi.
Strange thing to me.
i've just rooted and remove fsecure ect...
the program that run abitually are
Email LG, BW, gosms, alarmdroid, elixir, gmail, scoremobile, phono and FB.
yesterday: at 17.00 the battery was 100%..
i've used the phone normally, and at the 1'00 the battery was 62% about.
This Morning, at the 7.00, the battery was gone. 0%, phone was off...
How use more than 50% of battery in stand by?!
the other night the battery goes down at least 10%...
i don't understand...
Edit will upload screenshots battery use when im home

Sudden battery drop down

Hello,
I was wondering if anybody else experiences this behavior:
From time to time the battery of my Galaxy tab drops to 3% (at least this is what Android tells me). I noticed that this often happens when a view change takes place and when I simultanously press the volume control down. Today it also happened on a view change when I was using Skype. When I reboot the device it's showing a normal battery level again (e.g. 43%).
I wonder if this is a hardware issue or if it's a software bug. Anybody experiencing this, too?

Are you rooted/unlocked/rerom'ed at all?
There are various methods to resetting the batteries calibration, but it just depends on what brand you have/what you've done to it.
This is a fairly common problem, and for the most part can be solved easily.
Hello,
no, it hasn't been not rooted yet. Do I need to root it before I can recalibrate the battery?

Ok, there is an app and I need root for it to work. Seems it is solved now.

Which app are you talking about ? I have a very similar problem -- battery suddenly goes from ~30% to 1%, the tab starts screaming that I should connect to the charger, and (sometimes) shuts off. If I then wait 10 minutes, the battery will show again 30%, and it might run for awhile, go to 1%, where it will happily "run" (albeit doing nothing) for *HOURS*.
I'm rooted, have BatteryCalibrator installed and run it (I charged it fully, ran the calibrator, and am waiting for it to completely drain -- so that it wont even turn on, to charge it up again). So I'm wondering if you've really fixed this, and how.
I've contacted Samsung about my problem (the tab is about 6 months old) and they told me to do a full reset (special key sequence in telephone -- dont know if this is different from the "factory data reset" in Settings->Privacy).
I haven't done anything with this rooted phone yet, as it has unlocked everything, and I want to make sure I understand how to go back to a fully unlocked state before attempting to update (running XWJJ7). I also dont want Samsung to update it if I have to return it for warranty service....

New HTC One battery problem

The phone was bought 2 weeks ago and I have battery problems after 2-3 days. So the battery drain is huge, i got 10% (100%-90&) after 6 hours with the phone idle no use at all. What can I do?
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
Mine (bought on March 2014) with power saver on goes from 100% to 96% in one night (data, Wi-Fi are off). I think that is normal. Battery lasts 2 days normal use (not much screen on).
You can do a Factory reset. Don't install apps and watch if the drain is still there.
1. If the drain disappear install your apps one by one to see witch cause the drain.
2. If the drain is still there send it to service you have a battery problem.

Did you installed some apps that may cause?
Is this brand new or used phone you bought?
need a bit more info.
go to settings - power - usage, and look at the app usage. You should see the typical apps you use a lot, but also look for apps that look out of place. like an app you don't use much, but uses a lot of battery use.
also look at settings - more - data usage, and scroll down. That will show which apps are using the most data, and also if it's foreground or background data. Don't worry too much about foreground data, that is data use happening while you are using the app. Instead, look for apps that are using a lot of background data. if you click on the app, you have an option to disable background data for those apps.
Note some apps don't function properly without background data enabled, like some google services/play store. also make sure the play store options are set to never auto update.
fwiw, I usually get 2.5-3 days between charges with light use.
Sounds like a major issue

If the phone is that brand new, it could be a malfunctioning phone that eats through battery life. I would try taking it back to where ever you bought it from and try getting a new phone. See if that helps. Otherwise you may need to purchase a different battery from a reputable seller in order to get a good amount of battery life.
Cheers!

You could try GSam Battery Monitor (dowload it form Play Store). It gives you a report on which apps drain your battery.

Those should be on the top of your list. You might have a faulty battery then. Have you tried a factory reset?
So, I tried a factory reset but still battery drain. I have another HTC One, with heavier usage and still goes all the day with 30-40% left at night. I will talk to Vodafone to sent the phone to warranty but I think they will say It's because you unlocked the bootloader, put a custom rom, and there is a chance to lose my warranty. Probably I'll buy a battery case

You could Greenify the apps running on the background. That way, they will only be running when you open them and not after you close them. This could help too.

Battery draining quickly in a 802w (HTC One M7 Dual Sim)

Hi,
Phone has the latest stock ROM (Android 4.4.3) and starting a couple of months ago, it start draining battery a lot faster than usual). I already wiped the cache partition, but it didn't help. Can you suggest how to determine if it's a hardware or software problem? Can you suggest some app to detect what's the app draining the battery?
Thanks
Factory reset then install apps one by one with a gap hour or so between each install then when your battery starts draining again remove the last app you installed should be the culprit
If you cant find the culprit i would say its the fact most batteries wont last a day once they have been cycled incorrectly
Also have you dropped the phone at all or has the battery been bounced off the floor

Lollipop Update - Email app Battery Drain

I just updated to Lollipop earlier today, and the battery life has taken a major hit since.
I used to be able to go from 9AM-1AM and still have 20-30% left, but after the upgrade the phone ran out of juice by 6PM.
I read about clearing the cache so that did that, but it is still draining very quickly; a quick look at the battery usage says the Email app was using 20% battery.
The interesting thing for me is that I don't even use the Email app for work email, I use CloudMagic instead; I have my account added in the Email app just so I can get my work calendar to show up in the widgets, but there is no syncing for emails or anything. Also I did not see this kind of battery usage from the Email app before the upgrade.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this, and also if there's a way to disable the Email app altogether?
Same problem here on cm galaxy s3.

Droid Turbo
My wife's Turbo is doing the same thing. Email is using the majority of the battery power and I don't know why.
A new ROM always takes a little time to settle, especially one with a whole different way of running.

I have the email app disabled, along with other apps I don't use and all the bloatware. Not sure if this is what you mean or not.
this was a lollipop bug, disable email app
I've had the same thing happen on my Turbo when setting up Exchange mail and then on my Nexus 6. The phone runs hot for a day or so and destroys the battery but it eventually settles down.
