Hello,
I was wondering if anybody else experiences this behavior:
From time to time the battery of my Galaxy tab drops to 3% (at least this is what Android tells me). I noticed that this often happens when a view change takes place and when I simultanously press the volume control down. Today it also happened on a view change when I was using Skype. When I reboot the device it's showing a normal battery level again (e.g. 43%).
I wonder if this is a hardware issue or if it's a software bug. Anybody experiencing this, too?

Are you rooted/unlocked/rerom'ed at all?
There are various methods to resetting the batteries calibration, but it just depends on what brand you have/what you've done to it.
This is a fairly common problem, and for the most part can be solved easily.
Hello,
no, it hasn't been not rooted yet. Do I need to root it before I can recalibrate the battery?

Ok, there is an app and I need root for it to work. Seems it is solved now.

Which app are you talking about ? I have a very similar problem -- battery suddenly goes from ~30% to 1%, the tab starts screaming that I should connect to the charger, and (sometimes) shuts off. If I then wait 10 minutes, the battery will show again 30%, and it might run for awhile, go to 1%, where it will happily "run" (albeit doing nothing) for *HOURS*.
I'm rooted, have BatteryCalibrator installed and run it (I charged it fully, ran the calibrator, and am waiting for it to completely drain -- so that it wont even turn on, to charge it up again). So I'm wondering if you've really fixed this, and how.
I've contacted Samsung about my problem (the tab is about 6 months old) and they told me to do a full reset (special key sequence in telephone -- dont know if this is different from the "factory data reset" in Settings->Privacy).
I haven't done anything with this rooted phone yet, as it has unlocked everything, and I want to make sure I understand how to go back to a fully unlocked state before attempting to update (running XWJJ7). I also dont want Samsung to update it if I have to return it for warranty service....

Hello all,
Just a question to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me...
I am currently running froyo JPK firmware on my SGS and it's rooted running launcher pro plus, its not a custom tom and I don't have anything installed that I think could cause this, Apart from lag fix.
I've been running JPK since release date and all was well until today when i was quite happily browsing Facebook for Android and my phone just died and went off and I was unable to turn it back on, battery was about just over half before it died.
So I thought fair enough and removed battery thinking phone had caused error and wasn't responding, replaced but still wouldn't turn on.
I've now got it running but must keep charger in otherwise phone dies!
Has anyone else Experienced this?
If so how do I fix?
Also To add, i did do the battery statistics fix to fix battery time lengh on fw release date too
Thanks in advance

If you would specify what ROM you are using, it might be a bit more specific.

Nop...i already try 2 stock and a custom one...still same, sometimes after play games...sometimes it just shut off when its lock...as u mention above, not only me...read others post here http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9001_galaxy_s_plus-reviews-3908.php
Maybe its i9001 faulty somewhere...

Can anyone suggest a stable stock rom?

I have been using XXKPU for a while, it was quite stable but is now very old. At the moment, using XXKQ7 for some time. Also quite ok. Maybe your hardware is faulty.
I never had this kind of problem . i'm using kqe custom rom and i have no problems.
[9001] Samsung Galaxy S Plus i9001 random turn off
I have same problem with my i9001. I bought it in march, and it started to turn off randomly in june.
I used 3 different stock ROMs and CM9, and had this problem in everyone of them. I took phone to service, but they didn't find out what was problem (they told me that it is probably faulty internal memory, but new memory and repair for 45e wasn't acceptable for me)
This turn off happens to me usualy when phone is locked and idle. One time it happened on CM9 startup, and only one time phone was active (I was just browsing apps) when it turned off.
When it turns off sometimes it wont turn on for hours. It very rarely helps to take out battery and wait for 10 or more seconds and then put it back.
I noticed few times when it turnes on that on startup screen instead of SAMSUNG (first screen) it shows battery picture as it is when recharging even if phone is not connected to computer/charger.
I also noticed that reported battery is somehow strange. For example one time I recharged phone to 100%, and somewhere about 85% it turned off. I left im over the night, and in morning I turned it on and battery was on 6%. Same happened again with 55% going to 6% in just a few hours.
I found a way to turn it on, but this way is totaly strange and stupid. I take out battery, connect phone to computer with USB cable (as usual for data transfer and recharging), and then place battery. For now, I managed to turn it on this way most of times (which would be about 10%, 10% everything else, and 80% fail to turn on )
I have no idea what causes this but it probably isn't OS, kernel, apps, root/unroot and rest of possible software reasons.
Does anybody know what is actualy the problem with i9001 turning off randomly? And how to fix it?
Sorry for my bad English (I actually dont care )
edit: I tried following ROMs (all could be found on http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_Plus/GT-I9001

I have the exact same problem, once or twice a day the phone just switches off.
I use Broodrom RC5 currently.
Sometimes I see random green pixels across the screen before it turns off as well.
I have already had 2 defective Atrix HD's. I am trying to decide if it is worth keeping at it, or if I should give up and switch to something else.
My first one had a sudden battery discharge issue, and my second one ended up having a dead headphone jack, after only a month of use.
Poor build quality, or bad luck?
AT&T has been good to me, and has sent out both replacements under warranty exchange. My third Atrix HD is on its way now.
Would say bad luck!
Build qual. is perfect for me!

I have to agree with him. I've had nothing but perfection with my AHD.
I think there's no need to make double threads with the same topic.
It might be a bad luck. I even got my Atrix HD in out of box condition and never had any problems till now.
I agree with the double topics, however he way i phrased it in the initial topic got it closed as pointless. (But the thread complaining about the at&t logo on the front goes on)
Thank you for sharing you experience with me. It tells me that it might be bad luck and i should continue with the atrix and not give up on it.

I am having issues too, I never had these issues with my atrix 1.
1-> Rebooting itself (funny thing is it reboots during the standby(ideal on table or on sofa etc)
2-> Camera initialization error. It is not guarantee to work all the time if i got this error i have to reboot the phone.
3->If the battery is less than 5% screen getting unresponsive even charged fully i have to force reboot to avoid this situation
4-> I can see Android with error symbol during the boot sometimes
5-> No change even after recent OTA
Update: I deleted few apps and disabled all AT&T apps. Now phone working fine no reboots, no camera errors and improved battery. Looks like one App causing all these issues. Don't know exactly what app created these issues.
third phone seems a bit sluggish, but that likely is something I installed. So far so good. Time will tell.
I have noticed another bug, when rebooting while it is charging, I can lock this thing up good (The screen goes blank... but you can tell it is still on. Then the device becomes unresponsive to anything but the force reboot.). I found the force reboot option doing a Google search and got it working. The simple work around is that I never power it down and then re-boot it while attached to the charger.
Thank you for your feedback. It is reassuring to find out that I am the only one with these kinds of issues.
As for the previous poster, if you still have these issues after a hard reset to factory, then I would get an exchange on it.
usually when you shut it off while connected, the phone starts up again into the battery indicator screen, after that loads you can start the phone back up properly
I've got an issue when I tether. My screen goes blank and the phone is completely unresponsive. Once I shut wifi off on my laptop which was using my hot spot the phone awoke with an error that my home screen was unresponsive. :-\

The sluggishness was actually a weather app that was trying to draw overlaying graphics onto my screen, and so every first touch cleared the "clouds" then the second touch was actually acted on by the device... foolish design. I have to figure that apps are/can be a significant factor to the build quality of a phone.
For example, maybe..just maybe my battery issue was driven by a misbehaving app, rather than a physical defect. The device talks to the battery, and the battery talks to the device, and they all talk to the charger. I know in 1 case, the battery was reporting as full. So the device was telling the charger that it did not need any juice. In reality the battery was almost dead, and then it shut off with a fully drained battery. Upon re-boot it was reporting a dead battery, so it then charged. There is no way to tell what caused that communications breakdown.
My headphone jack...well, no arguments, that was a defective part. But on other things you never know.
should I get a replacement?
Should I try to get a replacement based on my phone's bugs?
would a replacement likely be free of these bugs?
I got an unbranded AHD off of ebay, supposedly unlocked (but have yet to try a SIM to test it.. getting one in 2 days).
The "System version" on the phone says 77.55.17.MB886.BellMobility.en.CA, so I'm guessing it's a Bell Mobility model. :cyclops:
The bugs:
-Possible high-rate battery drain while off-
One day I was fiddling with it using WiFi and GPS, and turned it off for the night. The battery was around 60% when I turned it off. (I'm 95% sure it was turned off, rather than put in Sleep). The next day when I turned it on, the battery was down below 30%.
I had "Battery Mix" app installed, and it shows the battery level graph continuously (when the phone is off, on, or sleeping. Battery Mix showed the Battery was being used up at about the same rate while off, compared to the rate it was being used while it was on.
-Battery usage data not available-
Next is a commonly mentioned issue with ICS, although people at Motorola's forums don't seem to have ever seen the issue.
The Battery Usage screen displays : "Battery usage data not available". It will show the on-times for Mobile network, Wi-Fi, Awake, Screen On, and Charging.... but it doesn't how any battery usage for specific processes or apps.
-Mobile network signal, even when no SIM installed-
This is another bug with the Battery screen. For a couple days it was fine, then one day I was installing and trying a few mobile data on/off toggle apps/widgets. Starting after that, the Battery screen shows steady activity for "Mobile network signal", even though no SIM is installed.
(a system monitor app shows that there is no mobile activity).
I've done a factory rest, and after that and with no apps installed, it still shows steady mobile activity. So it's pretty clear that it started after installing mobile toggle widgets, but shouldn't a factory reset erase the cause and result in the absence of the bug?
.. Battery usage data not available-- it would be a helpful feature, but I wouldn't get a replacement because of it.
.. Mobile network signal with no SIM-- Since a monitoring app shows that there is no mobile activity, it's not actually using the battery. However, it makes me wonder if this bug could also suggest a bug with mobile operation.
.. high-rate battery drain while off-- this is more a matter of concern.
I just got my HD a week ago because i sent back my A2 for insurance and they didnt have any left. After a week of use the headphone jack took a poop. Getting my replacement soon...

Return for bugs? No. If they are the same issues that others are having, then most likely returning it for and exchange would not solve your problems.
The headphone jack. That's interesting. Part of me is hoping that the headphone jack is bad on my new one eventually, because this is my third Atrix HD and AT&T said that I can switch to a different model if this one fails.
I really do like the phone, but I should have waited for the Note 2.(completely different phone, I should have thought it through better)
I was going to return it to Walmart att store and get a one x, but I was out of that. So I then contacted Motorola to get it repaired and they're smoking something up there.

Now on my 3rd hd. SIM card slot kept ejecting the card. Last chance moto. Then im switching to samsuck
Im on the 4.1.2 samsung release and my phone ran down to 0% and turned off. The next day all sorts of strange things were happening on the phone. It was like pulling the plug on windows 95 (corruption). I then pulled the battery which caused a boot loop. I had to do a factory wipe to get it back.
Has any one else had this problem?
Cheers

Its possible I would say, Cause I have experienced similar things myself in the past, I think it depends on your current set up.
If your phone is processing lots of different things and then all of a sudden the power supply fails (i.e battery dies) then theres a chance that will cause data corruption..... which leads to FC's / Bootloops / Resets etc.
What I tend to do is, if I know my battery is going to die (and I cant get to a charger) I will just shut it down before it dies, to stop things like that ^^^ happening.
If the problem persist, it maybe time to replace your battery. Had a similar problem but I also had screen flickering problems
My phone is 3 weeks old and it reboots itself randomly. There is no rule, sometimes when reading email, sms, or surfing, cold, hot....
Phone isn't rooted and has original software on, there is no sdcard in it. Warranty is still valid.
Is there something i could try before i send it to service, (tried factory reset)?
Something with Kies?
thanks
same here .. ive send it to service but they return the phone to me again with the same problem..
I have the same problem and also when phone starts after reboot it has ~20 percent less battery...I thought that these random reboots are from one of custom roms that I've installed recently, so when my phone started reboot everytime I tried to watch some video I decided to go back to stock firmware. But today after couple of hours of using I got random restart after a call ;/ Maybe later I'll try to connect phone to pc and take a look what's happening in logs during reboot. Anyone else have this issue?
Same here.... untouched device, battery draining way fast, gets to 40%-60% and randomly starts restarting.... whenever I plug it in again, battery shows 1-4%
My phone can go for a few hours on standby but as soon as I start using browser, play store, camera, etc. it drains and reboots. Can I save my battery or do I try and flush it down the toilet?
P.S. Just rooted today anticipating that I can find a solution.
I'am on Maclaws CM 11 and have still no Reboots anymore
Same issue
I'm having the same issue with my galaxy s3 mini. only thing I've noticed that it won't randomly reboot when it's in the charger. So this means it can't be the powerbutton being stuck like many others are saying on the internet. But what is the solution? I'm really a noob when it comes down to technology.:silly:
Could anybody help us out?

Has anyone found a solution to this? I'm having the same problem, the phone randomly reboots when on battery, but not whilst charging; battery status diverges wildly from reboot to reboot - it will say 60% then reboot with 5%.
Is this more likely to be a problem with the kernel and/or ROM, or the battery itself?
I have got the same issues. When I sent it to warranty, the said that the battery was badly placed. When the phone was drobet, it shaked the battery littlebit and it restarted. Thei put somekind of tape to it and worked like a dream

Sorry, but how can you place the battery so badly that there can get some space between the contacts?!?
Either the dimensions of the battery itself or the dimensions of the "battery-bay" are not correct (anymore?).
When everything is still original, you haven´t used a crowbar and your warranty is active, it´s imho a cheek to let you use some tape...

The case for battery was few mm too big, so the battery had littlebit too much space. It was some manufactured problem. When they put that kind of a tape, I couldn't even saw it first. It just keeps the battery steady...
