Download and use GO SMS or Handcent from the android market. It may do it - they have a lot of extra settings like that. Disable the built in sms app's notifications.
This should be in the general forum, it's not development.
chomp sms comes with a pre-selected sent tone different from incoming

I've searched but have found nothing.
Is there an app that will allow you to assign different notifications based on who is sending you a SMS?
Chompsms can do that, press the msg and hold ntil option pops up...then scroll and asign ring

Thanks!
I've been using Handcent sms and I was hoping that it could handle it. Oh well. Looks like I will need to change apps.
ringo pro also works to assign sms tones custom leds and vibe patterns without needing any oths mms.apk even works with the default mms
Pretty sure handcent can do it. Open up a message from the person and click the top right settings icon.
Missed Call (at least the donate version) does this as well, I used to use Ringo, but once Missed Call got the feature I never looked back.
How can I change the SMS delivery tone? More specific, I want to remove it (but keep the notification).
As far as I know, it's possible to change it with Handcent but I want to keep my normal SMS app.
get tone picker from the market its free.. you can set any notification with it

I'm only able to change default ringtone and default notification tone with that.
I've actually solved it now. Not specifically changing the delivery notification tone, but I've made it silent.
I've set the SMS tone to silent and installed SMS Popup to add a new tone for SMS messages. So I'm happy now even though it would be nice to be able to actually have a different tone for the delivery notifications too.
Not happy anymore, my solution made two notifications come up for every message (even though the standard notification was silent).

not sure if this is the right answer..
under Sounds and Display -> Notification Ringtone -> select "Silent"

Hi there.
I have one problem with my LG Black, i've got installed NOVA V7 ROM and from market I install Handcent SMS and set is as a default SMS app. I uncheck in oryginal android sms application option "notifications" and now i got only one notification on my statusbar when I get a sms and thats all right, but when someone send me message i get on lockscreen notification that i've got 1 message and when i tap on this notofication and slide down it goes to the oryginal android sms app. This is very annoying becauce after i get sms I got 2 notifications, one from Handcent SMS on my statusbar and the other one from oryginal SMS app on my lockscreen, and if i go to the Handcend and i read the message this one dissapear but the second one (from SMS/MMS app) is still on my lockscreen.
In a nutshell: When i get sms i have to go to the 2 sms app because i get 2 notifications, one from handcent and one from stock sms application.
My question is: how to change this slide down opption to handcent sms or if I can't do this, how to delete this option ?
Thanks a lot for help.
If you're not madly in love with the default lockscreen you can find out there some pretty alternatives and that should solve your 2 notifications problem. I used to have that problem too but I simply changed to widgetlocker which, btw, it's more powerful and customisable and you can have whatever lockscreen you want, without those 2 notifications. If you are rooted you could also delete the sms app but i'm not sure about that. Linking it to handcent or go sms or anything i don't think it's going to work.
For double notification message on status bar, you can disable notification from stock messaging settings.
And for notification message on lock screen, it's build with stock messaging, and there's no clue yet how to disable it.

Hey, I have solved this problem. But don't know which app killed it. I have "autostarts" and "no lock". I think it's autostarts. But mind you, it is an anvanced application.
On option "When SMS Received" you'd see both, Messaging and Handcent. So tap Messaging and disable it. "After Startup" option, disable Messaging as well. You could disable Messaging as well or other unnecessary apps that autostart on other options. Like Gallery, Music etc. HTH

Autostarts app. Not on the phone itself. You have to download the app.
Autostarts by Michael Elsdorfer. Find it on the market.

Yes, just save the new ones you download in the Notification folder in your internal memory then they will show in the settings list.

To have a different text message sound, you need to go into the messages app, and at the conversations list, tap the " . . . " in the upper-right corner, go to Settings and tap the first option to choose a different text message notification sound.
Fyi I always have to reboot after I put new tones in either Notifications or Ringtones Folders before the new tones will actually show up in you're selection menus.
Anybody else?

You can use File Commander instead of the sound picker, there your new sounds will show up for sure.

Thanks. Tried that too, but it is not giving me an option to set a notification sound in the email settings list.
Here is how to do what you want:
- Go to the main "Settings" app
- Tap "Email" under the Accounts section
- Tap "Account settings"
- Tap the account name you wish to set the notification sound for
- Tap the word "Notification" (make sure the slide switch on the right is set "On" first)
- Tap "Select ringtone" to pick a tone
- Select the one you want and tap the "Done" button.
NOTE: these are for email accounts you use with the Email app. The Gmail app works differently - you change Gmail's notification tone using Gmail's Settings menu from within the app itself.

In the Outlook app, go to Settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Tap the header "Audio Notification", it will now let you pick a sound!
