Has anyone gotten either one of these products to work on Dell Streak 7? I have been able to flash a rom with root access (Daveid) and flash Streakdroid7 1.3 from Dj_steve but still cannot get this to work. It needs tun.ko which are available for other Android devices but not for Dell Streak 7.
Any help will be appreciated.

I'd posted a few questions I have on customizing my Streak 7, but have continued looking for information from other sources as well. I'm finding a number of "How to Root" guides, but I can't tell for sure which would work on my Streak and which wouldn't because the version/build numbers don't seem to be matching.
The unit I have is a WiFi only unit I purchased thru Amazon. It has Android version number 2.2.2, Kernel 2.6.32.9 and Build 15799.
* Most of the instructs I've found appear to apply to units that came with 2.2.1, and are either "Pre-OTA Rooted Stock ROM," "Pre-OTA Unrooted Stock ROM" and "Unrooted OTA Stock ROM." Since my unit came with 2.2.2 already installed, it doesn't sound like it would fit into the "Pre-OTA" categories, but since it didn't get an OTA upgrade, it doesn't look like it would fit in the "Unrooted OTA Stock ROM" option either. Am I misunderstanding the different classifcations? If not, does anyone know where instructions for rooting Streak 7 that came with 2.2.2 already installed?
* The primary reason I want to root the unit is so I can get rid of some unwanted pre-installed programs and so (hopefully) so I can assign default browser and email programs to the buttons on the "email/app list/browser" widget at the bottom centre of the Home screen. Once I have done those things, is it possible to then re-root it? Or will it just stay unrooted until the next time the unit is upgraded? If/when there's another upgrading to the Android version, will the programs I deleted still be deleted, or will I need to do that again?
Thank you for any assistance you can offer!

You should make a nandroid dump, all the previous roms are modified nandroid dumps.
Also if you somehow delete something important you can recover it without having to contact dell
get fastboot working and flash clockworkmod recovery. Dj_steves rom is based off 2.2.2 and has all the crap removed as well as some kernel goodness. 2.2.2 has yet to be rooted manually. you have too flash one of the pre rooted roms. good luck
For the past few days, I have been reading from various forums in regards to this device. I have a Dell Streak 7 Android 2.2.2 Kernel 2.6.32.9 Build 15420. (Trying to give as much information)
I was able to install CWR and flashed LG7_336_0_33_FULL_ROOT by Daveid that I found in a forum so that I can obtain Root access. I have tested this with apps that need root access and it is working perfectly.
My true goal for all this is to be able to VPN to my job but I understand I need root (done) and tun.ko (need this). After investigating I found I can get tun.ko with Dj Steve's StreakDroid 1.7.0 aka HD7.
Two Questions
1. would Dj steve's rom give me tun.ko?
2. If I flash this rom will I lose root access that I got from Daveid's rom?
Any assistance with this will be truly appreciated.

that rom is not for this device but flash if you want ,..lol
Thanks for the clarification of the Rom so I take it this rom is for Dell Streak 5.
In any case has anybody been able to tun.ko active in Dell Streak 7? I read that this is device specific and I see many instructions on the internet but always for different devices.
I know this is a new device but has anyone been able to get VPNC or OPENVPN to work with this device?
hello, noob here,
i just bought a dell streak 7 on ebay, the tablet came rooted which i thought was cool at first but then i realized that the tablet somehow thinks its a phone and it acts up a bit. i did a factory reset and nothing, so im guessing the rooted files arent installed in files that can be easily removed. i would also like to have the new honeycomb out there...
here is some info that might be useful for those who may be able to help me
i went in the superuser app that was already there and have this info:
superuser v2.3.6.1
su binary v2.3.1-ef
pretty much my question is how can i unroot the tablet?
You do not need to be unrooted to upgrade to Honeycomb. The Honeycomb upgrade will wipe your internals and install a whole new OS.

How do I install the new honeymoon update? And what bugs me about how I got the streak 7 rooted is the fact that a lot of times it thinks its a phone. When its just a tablet.

Go to Settings, About Phone, System Update. If that don't work, you can manually update. Instructions can be found here:

This isn't necessarily good advice. SuperUser and busy box had to get installed somehow.... likely thru Clockwork Recovery.
Attempting to perform the Dell update procedure may result in a soft brick.
yes he is right
I have a nexus 7 with jelly bean 4.2 and have installed stickmount but when I connect a USB stick and click mount it just says stick mount is bust try again in a few seconds but never gets past this. I do not have root access and think the problem may be linked to that but I cannot work out how to get it.
Any help would be gratefully received
Thanks
Yes, you must be rooted to use stickmount. Try nexus media importer. No root required.
Hi,
I've successfully loaded the 4.2.2 build as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413390 but have lost Root access.
Have tried a number to install a number of packages via TWRP which work on previous versions to no avail, anyone know a successful method ?
Thanks in advance
LOL root is built inside of it, no need ot install anything.
