The market is ok on wifi. In 3G, i can browse the net, but not the market. It always gives me the network error. Any idea why?
I get the same exact thing -- It looks like the 3g is actually disabled when the android market is open. The 3g logo actually disappears from the task bar when the market is open. I have to go in and kill the market in the task manager to get the 3g working again. It is really annoying. I am on AT&T if that matters.
The AT&T tech rep I spoke to told me that I would have to call Samsung. (I'm having the same problem with my Galaxy Tab).
i finally got my market working in gingerbread thru 3G! thanks to noxxious for the great help!
try this procedure:
1. backup your data and apps, and your network's apn settings
2. get the sec_csc JQ1.zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13936755#post13936755 (post no. 47) and unzip it.
3. overwrite the csc folder in /system with the csc folder you got from step 3 (use root explorer)
4. using your dialpad, enter *#272*your_tab_IMEI#.
5. select "XTC" and press "install" (XTC is the international sales code that works on any country).
6. step 5 will wipe your data. if it fails, then switch off your tab and go to recovery mode (press the "on" key and volume up key at the same time).
7. select "wipe data".
8. when your tab restarts, it will propmt you again for setup (your sim card should be in the tab). when you're asked to connect to packet data, click the checkbox next to it. after setup, when i checked the settings\mobile network\apn settings, the tab automatically created the apn settings for me (if not, then manually create apn settings). switch on 3G and access the market!
it worked for me! hope it works for you, too!
This is GREAT ! I had the same problem before and now it"s fixed !
THANKS to noxxious and to vince_junior ! ! !
Market Update
Does the above solution work even after the update to the Android Market is applied? Obviously, wiping the tab will return it to the default apps, including Market.
I can go in to the "App" manager and uninstall the Market update and then it works on 3g but as soon as the update reinstalls (automatically), then the 3g is disabled again.
Thanks
Strange. I have the stock gingerbread but i don'have that problem over 3G. Vodafone in my country have 2 diffrent data plan, "Mobile Internet" where i have no problem with anything, and "Internet on Mobile" where i can browse over the web, but i can't receive calls from Viber or Tango. Those 2 apps work great on " Mobile Internet", so maybe is your data plan who make that things. I have tryed right now on Mobile Internet to open and browsing the Market and is work like a charm.

the sec_csc file in the above post is for philippine carrier networks only. though you could do something similar with a sec_csc for your carrier networks.
Is there any other fix for this? I don't really want to start from scratch on my Glaxy tablet.
US based--at&t carrier.
same problem here. just flashed to overcome hermes and the market does not work on 3g. us att tab. im not really exited about reloading everything- i just finished. perhaps there is another solution?
i have an SGT-P1000N and flashed GB and now my dial-er does not work i am on US T-mobile, i was able to check my voice mail after i did the update, now it goes back to home screen when i hit the call button. any help. or or help going back to Froyo. Thank you

You have to get the correct APN (Access Point Name) for your provider to make data/MMS to work, you should not require the XT883 firmware. Just try google with your SIM provider followed by APN settings.. such as "Orange UK APN Settings" or check their website, or give them a call for the correct APN settings. Some SIMs have the APNs locked into the SIM, some of them do not include APNs (You might check a phone from the SIM provider for the APN).
When you find the correct settings, go to Settings > Wireless & Network settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Create a new APN and enter the info you found. Also check Battery & Data Manager > Data delivery to ensure data is enabled.

1) do you connect your phone to the pc while doing this
2) do you download root explorer on your phone from the app store and are there any free ones
3) and how do you go about doing this ( Use root explorer to push the build.prop into the system folder )
i am very sorry for being such a noob, its my first android phone

On Stock and Blur based roms, there's a little line in the build.prop that Verizon snuck in.. that makes any GSM network appear to have bad reception (only 1~2 bars) but if you check under status, the reception is actually good. You can fix that by editing this line in build.prop;
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1
Change the 1 to 0 and save, then reboot, this should fix the 'reception issue'
A free root browser would be JRummy's Root browser lite, or ES File Explorer (you can enable root browsing in settings).
Build.prop is in /system
IF YOU INSIST ON FLASHING XT883 (Only required for using AT&T/T-Mobile/Other USA GSM networks)
Open a root browser; copy the build.prop you have to the SDCard or somewhere safe. Copy the build.prop (after you edit the line I mentioned before on the PC, you can use notepad). After you put it in /system MAKE SURE YOU FIX THE PERMISSIONS. Most root browsers just long-press build.prop, then tap permissions (ES is Properties > permissions) Check only Read (on all three, user, other, etc) and Write on Owner ONLY.
Then use the fastboot instructions to flash the XT883 radio. THIS WILL BREAK VERIZON CDMA.
I have JB XXLPZ and changed provider today.
From the documentation from the provider I need to set things via the simtoolkit. I don't see the icon and can't find it anywhere?
Also I have the phone rooted and am running the TZ 3.5 kernel.
Any hints or tips?

Also original rooted kernel didn't make a change.

Reboot. You pushed this file? And did remove previous apk and odex file of it?
P.S. If you really need that app to open do this:
1. Make backup in CWM.
2. Flash stock FW with Odin. And do factory reset. Or try with factory reset first, without flashing JB with Odin again, if that do not help, then flash FW.
3. Use app for your needs
4. Root phone again
5. Install TZ 3.5
6. Restore your backup.

I removed the previous two files and copied the one you supplied in it's place.
Ran sd-mail and was able to find the stk app. Unable to run it though.
Then reboot.
After the reboot the sd-maid app was unable to find the stk application like the original ones.

Ok. Will do that tomorrow.
For now I use the Wifi hotspot functionality from my company phone.
I need to do the following:
Choose Roaming services.
Choose Selecteer Mode.
Choose Manueel.
Choose International.
Simcard gets updated.
If you know any app that can do the following then I'm all ears
Thanks and I'll update tomorrow!

Solved!
The provider said that my simcard didn't need to be changed because it was of the newer type. So the sim toolkit was not being able to run because it detected the newer type.
Then I explained that I still had no internet. She talked me throug all the settings and they were fiine. On their website there are numerous samples per phone on how to setup this manually.
Is seems that the settings defer for some phones. They told me I had to type "internet" in the access type section while it had to be "default" what I found out by checking the phone of my wife. She has the same provider.
After changing I had my dataconnection.
Thanks for thinking with me!
First of all, please tell me and I'll move this Thread if it is in the wrong section. This is a fix for the problem I faced many many times while changing ROMS, and it actually made me stay on Pillama for a very long time, this is because that was the only one where my APN settings worked/stayed.
So if you have recently changed to a different ROM and you don't have 3G and your APN settings won't stay, here's the fix.
This works providing you have a restorable backup of a ROM with Working 3G and you have an external SD Card.
Boot into Recovery. You can do this via Rom Manager (Downloadable from the PlayStore)
Restore to the Rom which your Mobile Data (3G) works on.
After you have rebooted and you're back on your ROM with working 3G download Root Browser. This is available from the PlayStore.
Navigate to your System Directory.
Look for a folder named 'etc', and go into it.
Scroll down until you see 'apns-conf.xml' hold down on it and select copy.
Navigate to your External SD Card and Paste the file somewhere memorable.
Go into Rom Manager and clear all your caches (Dalvik Cache, Wipe Cache, Format System, clear data) just basically remove everything.
Do a clean install of the ROM that you couldn't get 3G to work on.
Once you're up and running go into the PlayStore and download Root Browser.
Go onto Root Browser, and navigate to your System Directory/folder and into 'etc'.
Delete the 'apns-conf.xml' that is in there.
Navigate to the External SD and copy the 'apns-conf.xml' from there.
Go back to System/Etc and paste the file in there.
Reboot your device.
Go to Settings > Look under Wireless & Networks, underneath Data Usage you should see More... > now select Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > press the menu tab in the bottom right > select Reset to Default. Select your carriers one! Congratulations!
I'm just speaking from personal experience, this problem caused hours of trouble for me and I want to help you guys, so please don't hate if it doesn't work for you! Thanks guys
It's working but only in situation when APN setting disappeared after changing ROM. When phone can't read correctly MNC and MCC codes from the beginning even editing apns-conf.xml and changing codes wont help. I studied this issue few days and didn't find fix for it. There are few carriers in Europe which can't be used in our phones and for now only changing SIM Card for newer version can help.
Okay, just thought I'd give back to the community writing about my experiences with the phone, I'm only 13 though so my knowledge is pretty limited.
Don't worry, I'm not complaining. I just add little correct for Your tutorial cause it was pain in the a** for me and even what You described wont help if You have fu**** up SIM card.
EDIT: I have figured out how to make the EPTT work on any rooted android phone. Skip to post #6 for the tutorial and proof.

I have rooted and installed SU. I have tried Helium to backup the app on my old S3 then install the app on my new S5. It wont register that way. I tried Device spoofer to make it look like an S3 and it still wont register. I found an older thread where the guy said it worked with both above mentioned methods on his Note 3. But they dont seem to work on the S5. Anybody have any other ideas? Is the network possibly seeing the S5 sim card and simply going NOPE not happening or does it read the device info instead? If it is the sim maybe they can reactivate my S3 sim and maybe I can get it working that way?
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Try using Titanium Backup and doing the exact same thing; back up the app on your S3 to your SD card, move the card to your S5, restore the app. Should work fine. I've never worked with Helium.

I will give that a try. It seems like helium backs everything up except for the registration data and the network even when i spoof it still knows it is an S5. They told me at the store they expect eptt to be updated to work with the S5 soon but how long is "soon"? A week or two is no big deal but any longer becomes a real issue. I use it all the time. Luckily I have a paid subscription to titanium so when i get home I will give her a whirl and see what happens.
Same issue. It tries to activate on the network and it wont allow it.
You have to fix your sd permissions use this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Ok guys here is the way to do it if anybody else ever runs into this situation. Device spoofer does work but it makes everything on the screen super small and after you activate EPTT and get it up and working then switch back to the stock profile it then stops working again.
In order to get the EPTT app to work on all non supported ATT android phones you must change the phones model number. I followed this tutorial and it worked perfectly. You must be rooted.
http://www.skytechblog.com/2013/01/change-mode-number-to-galaxy-s4-or.html
"Requirements:- A rooted Android device, Root explorer & patience
So let's Start..!! Video Tutorial
1. Start the Root Explorer app.
2. Go to System folder its in the root if the device
3. Make sure that System is in Read/Write from the top right
corner.
4. Look for a file named
build.prop in system folder.
5. Long press it for Options and then choose Text editor.
7. Search the line as followed ro.product.model= and then change the text after = sign to whatever you like your Model number to be displayed.
8. Press back and hit Save.
9. Exit the app and Reboot or simply Power off and on it.
That's it...its done now check the edited name in Settings>About phone> Model number
To get back to the original:- Just delete the build.prop and rename the build.prop.bak again to build.prop and reboot "
I changed mine to an S4 which is supported. The registration network looks for the Model number to verify it is being used on a supported device. Simply change it to the name of a supported device and waaa laaaa working EPTT.
As you can see by the icon at the top left I am signed in to EPTT and it does work great on the S5.
I know very few use this but for those that do and want a newer phone then here is your 100% working answer if you are willing to root your phone.
1. For those wondering why this is posted in the T-Mobile section: MetroPCS is owned by T-Mobile and as you will see through this post is very influential in it working.
2. If you got it working some other way, more power to you. please do not confuse people (because lets face it alot of people looking at this havent been on here very long or just stumbled onto the thread) by posting your "fix"
THIS IS FOR HTC ONE M9 users who have taken their devices to MetroPCS. If you are not on MetroPCS then do not try this in any way because it will not work for you. If you are on metropcs and have a T-Mobile firmware installed then try changing the apn settings from step 6-12. This will also fix people having problems turning the wifi calling switch on
YOU MUST BE ON THE MARSHMALLOW T-MOBILE FIRMWARE (3.39.531.7) FOR THIS TO WORK, MEANING MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING A MARSHMALLOW ROM (NOT AOSP ROMS). THE ROM CAN BE BASED ON 3.35 for its base, this is not to be worried about. Also make sure the rom cook has T-Mobile support (i.e. ViperOne 4.3.0 etc) THESE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDE FLASHING TO THE 3.39.531.7 FIRMWARE. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS POST AND ANY POSTS THIS ONE LINKS TO.
How to get wifi calling & sms over wifi working on MetroPCS on the m9
FIRST AND FOREMOST STEP IS TO MAKE A COMPLETE BACKUP OF YOUR DEVICE IN RECOVERY IN CASE THINGS DO NOT GO AS INTENDED!
1. Make sure you have registered an account on http://www.metropcs.com/account.html
2. Download the myMetro app from the play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.nmc.sihome.metropcs&hl=en & download sqlite editor attached to this post and install it.
3. open the app and it should recognize you automatically, on the left upper corner of the app click the 3 lines to bring out the side menu. Click on E911 Address and follow the instructions.
4. Once you submit this information you will receive a text message saying you have filled out the e911 info for wifi calling.
5. Goto this post and follow the instructions for downloading and flashing the 3.39.531.7 firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/3-39-531-7-nowipe-noredtext-twrp-3-0-0-1-t3326861
6. Once your phone reboots go into airplane mode. open the sqlite editor app on your phone.
7. click the files tab. then navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/
8. click on telephony.db then carriers_cache. click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and select delete all
9. click the back button and select carriers.
click the first line, then the little pencil and change the following exactly:
Code:
Name: MetroPCS
Numeric: 310260
mcc: 310
mnc: 260
apn: fast.metropcs.com
mmsc: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
type: default,supl,mms,hipri,dun
protocol: IPV6
roaming_protocol: IP
state: MAKE SURE THIS FEILD IS BLANK IF IT SAYS READONLY REMOVE READONLY
10. click save
11. Take yourself out of airplane mode and goto your apn settings and make sure that the apn selected is the one that says MetroPCS with the apn set as fast.t-mobile.com
12. Go enable wifi calling via the switch in call settings. Make sure you are connected to a wifi network, then once you are sure it is working, go ahead and turn airplane mode back on, then activate ONLY WIFI. Let it connect. (For a few seconds you MAY see an invalid sim error, ignore it it will go away once the connection is made. and try making a call and sending a sms. SMS may only work with the stock app while in airplane mode. im not sure if that has changed. Anyway hope this helps. Enjoy.
