Hello people,
I've been using gingerbread for two days and scared by the battery problem, I decided to fall back to froyo. Here's what I did:
1)JSD flash (with PIT/re-partition)
2)Speedmod kernel flash
3)Turned everything I could to ext4 from recovery
After this, I recognized that some apps in the market are missing, such as Fancy Widget, Launcher Pro, Titanium Backup, Watchdog etc. These were some of the applications installed on my phone before. However, some other items installed on my former system were there, such as Battery Status Bar, Digital Rain, Andoku, etc. I'm not talking about "My Apps", I'm talking about searching and not finding. Then;
4)Flashed JPO (with re-partition/PIT)
5)Flashed fugu root
6)Flashed original kernel back
The market situation was the same;
7)"Uninstalled the Updates" and "Cleared the Cache" of the Market from Settings/Application Manager.
Still nothing;
8)Cleared cache and did factory reset/clear user data
9)Applied "fix.apk" from jrummy
Nothing...;
10)JPH flash
11)Fugu root/flashed JPH kernel back
12)Market enabler
Frustratingly, none of this worked. I would very much appreciate your help, thanks in advance.
my problem like you plus that search result doesnt so good at all!
I'm starting to think that some data survive through repartition flashes/factory resets.
For instance, my APN settings were never gone(which I never understood).
Anyone knows how to fully reset my data?
Here's some new things I tried:
1)Installed Juwe's Mod
2)Did the market fix
Nothing changed,
3)Installed a themed market (not much hope in this)
4)Converted /system /data /datadata /cache to ext4, did factory reset
And still nothing. Anyone has the slightest idea on how to fix this?
Any ideas?

Hi guys,
I wanted to check out android 2.1 flan, so I installed the rom after making a nandroid backup.
It was fun to check out, but in order to load it I had to wipe my phone and my cache.
After restoring my nandroid, all the applications I had installed but wiped with the cache are acting funny. Basically they still show up in manage applications, but they really arent there, and if I try to reinstall them through market it doesnt let me click install OR uninstall as both are greyed out.
Basically, I will have to wait for all my applications to get "updates" before I can use them again.
Is there a way to clean up these ghost programs... without doing a complete wipe (and loosing text messages and other things)?
I didnt think Nandroid did application backups (what you are seeing are in the ext3 partition)
You need Switchrom or BART to do full backups including apps
I may be (and no dount will be) wrong though.

As mentioned above, nandroid *does not* back up your external apps. It will ONLY backup your *INTERNAL* storage.
If you make a clean restore of your nandroid backup and then run the fix_permissions script from recovery, it *might* be able to fix (some/most of) your external apps. Might try that.
If it doesn't work, then it is a tedious business of reinstalling each application individually and then restoring *ITS* home directory. Either that or a total wipe (internal and external).
The problem is that the database file that keeps track of which apps you have installed/removed is out of sync with the apps that you have installed.
I am uncertain how to fix this (I have the same problem myself).
If you perform a factory wipe, you'll lose that database entirely. All your apps will be installed, but your phone will think that none of them are.
UPDATE:
OK...apparently this is a more widespread issue impacting people running the stock/OEM ROMs as well as those of us with rooted phones.
Read up on this thread:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=096ef069db2788e9&hl=en
I followed the suggestion near the bottom of the page and copied over the /data/data/com.andriod.vending/databases/assets.db to a new filename (basically I renamed it).
I then launched the market app and then it would let me install (reinstall) the missing apps.
Then I ran into a problem. I deleted the new assets.db that was created and copied the old one (the one I renamed) back to assets.db.
Then the market app would force close. I noticed the UID of the assets.db file was wrong.
I ran the fix_permissions script from RA's recovery image. This fixed the UID problem, including the assets.db file. But now the market app only shows the apps that I've paid for......none of the others that I have installed.
Not sure what's going on there. It may sort itself out within 24 hours.
I flashed on Paul's FroYo the other day and decided I didn't want the headache of app instability until later. But now after nandroid restoring my 5.0.6 backup, I can no longer download anything from the market. I read posts where people said to clear data from apps such as download manager, google apps, etc but when i go to my manage applications in settings I cannot see these apps, my guess is theyre hidden in CM. Any suggestions?
have you gone to settings (when in manage applications) and changed the filter to all apps?
I've got the same issue.
Decided to wipe, install Cyan 5.0.6 then revert to my 5.0.6. Nandroid.
Everything is fine until I try to download TI Backup from the market.
Anything I try and download just hangs at 'downloading'....
I've wiped caches, cleared data, replaced my XML file....etc
Grrrrrrr, why does nothing work properly.
i went back to 5.0.6 to do what you said, every time ive gone back with my nandroid back up its been fine, but this time the market app is corrupt for some reason. the vending.apk is in /system/app but the market icon isnt in the launcher and the shortcut on my home screen says app not installed when i use it. doing a factory reset works but i want that to be a last resort as i would like to preserve my settings/messages. ive tried replacing the vending.apk with different ones but it still won't install. any ideas?
I followed the steps here and it fixed the issue for me. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6575904
I am experiencing some very unusual problems with my froyo installs, specifically when installing/restoring apps.
First the basic info:
Nexus One
Froyo 2.2 FRF 72 stock with root no radio update
Upgraded from FRF 50 stock with root no radio update
I used Titanium Backup (TB) to backup all my apps, I have done this countless times before. Everything was fine on FRF50, but I wanted to try out a modified ROM. Yes I nandroided, but the restore failed THANKS CLOCKWORKMOD!! I should have stuck with amonRA. Anway, I had no choice but to flash again. I tried a few from the forums with all the same results so I gave up on them and just did stock with root but still having the issues.
When I restored the apps with TB, i get about 90% of my apps restored then I get an error saying that my space is full (even tho I enabled the stock apps2sd method) OR TB will suddenly just stop restoring apps, again stuck around 94%. I am thinking, its okay ill just reboot and continue. Well I rebooted and all the apps were gone even tho they are obviously on the sdcard, i checked.
So typical solution:
force stop the launcher. that didnt work. i tried other launchers, nothing worked. i had no choice but to wipe and try again. trust me, i did this way to many times, i dont even wanna think about it.
So i thought there was an issue with TB, yes i clicked "problems", upgraded busybox, trust me, I did all the basic stuff, Im beyond that.
Then I tried installing every app manually, thats over 150+ apps, ya..it was annoying as hell. Then suddenly, I would get stuck at the installing screen....no app would install, not from TB, not from market, not from the sdcard...nothing.
So typical solution:
delete .android_secure
That only works temporarily, then its back to the issue.
The point is, it keeps happening. Like today, I install a fresh ROM, yes I wiped, I even partitioned the sdcard and within installing literally ONE app, I get this problem, no app installs after that. So I went and deleted .android_secure and everything seems to be working okay. But this will happen again, if I try to restore with TB now, the same thing will happen again. I have tried every combination of installing apps, using TB, wiping....nothing seems to work.
On top of all that, my apps wont restore automatically from the market when installing a fresh ROM. So my question, what do I do about this and has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Update:
I called it. It happened again. Fresh install, installed one app, no apps installed after that, deleted .android_secure, everything was back to normal, started restoring apps with TB, stuck at 93%, nothing will install now...any suggestions? should i delete .android_secure AGAIN!?
Ayman
Decided to install cyanogenmod 6.0.0 final today (didn't flash any of the nightlies/RCs), and now I'm facing the same problem. My titanium backup restores all appeared to be going well, and in fact I can even run the apps that were successfully restored without problems. But at some point in the restore it'll hang, and I won't be able to install anything from then on. In fact, when I tried rebooting the phone, it wouldn't even detect any of the apps installed on the sdcard (although, when I checked /sdcard/.android_secure, all the .asec files were present).
OP/anyone else, did you ever manage to fix this problem?
I've got the exact same problem
Tried 3 different roms after wiping everything and I can't seem to install any app.
TB does not install app and neither does market and this is starting to get very annoying.
Same problem but with specific apps:
Wi-Fi File Explorer Pro (most important as I paid for it)
Angry Birds
Google Sky Map
My other 100+ apps restored from Ti Backup or installed from the Market.
I have logs that say "unable to open secure container" but who do I send them to?
Enom from TheOfficialRom has stated that restoring from Titanium is really not very good practice. I had the exact same thing happen to me when i first installed his rom; enabled apps2sd, restored all apps and data with titanium backup.
Here's the catch, and might help you. I then did a wipe (don't wipe ext too!) and when it came up all of my apps were installed and worked fine. I even went through and manually restored all of the data from the apps and they continued to work fine! Just don't restore "System" data, set that stuff back up by hand. So in this case, the apps are "already installed" and for me worked fine, even after restoring their data (not the apps themselves, as they were already on the ext partition). This fixed my primary issue ("all" apps failed to install or upgrade).
However, I continued to have periodic problems with certain apps as I had also enabled dalvik-cache to /cache which works if you don't have a bazillion apps installed, but I have >115 and my /cache was always 100% full and caused app installs to fail. Some were fine, some were not. Don't know why, but I know (after wiping again) and NOT moving dalvik-cache, zero problems. I even repeated the process back and forth a few times and dalvik-cache to /cache = fail for me. You can check in his Spare Parts if you're using his ROM, or just df in a terminal if you've moved the dalvik to make sure where it's at isn't full.
Hopefully this helps some.
I had this problem earlier on after trying a custom rom moving from FRF91 when it first came out. I had to go through the market to get the apps, but titanium would restore the data after i installed the app... i think.
The Clockword nandroid kept failing on me too. BUT, i found if i tried them a second or third time, they would actually work.
Hi,
I'm starting playing with my Nook and have some problem with Market. Each time i try downloading an application it says "Download unsessfull".
I had some problems yesterday trying to use the CWR to make backup, so it can be related..
I don't know what can be related to this so i try to remember all things i done:
- A Nook, unboxed then updated to 1.1
- Rooted using Autonooter 3.0
- At this point Market was working, ie: i downloaded go launcher ex.
- I installed Rom manager and apply cwr (choosed Nook (new), i think it was the mistake)
- rebooted to recovery, i wanted to save the system before trying to apply kernel patch (OC and better touch responsiveness)
- failed to backup the system (it say's can't mount /system)
- So i tried to reboot, it reboot back to recovery each time.
- Panic mode (i'm not linux, recovery or other underground android fluent
- I think a tried the wrong buttons : clear dalvik, i think i clicked "wipe cache partition". Don't think i tried other button, not sure..
- Light back to brain and started searching real solutions
- Wana try the 8 fail solutions, but failed to do that (i don't want to lose against nook
- I installed zip from card: clorkwork-removal
- Nook back to laucher
- At this point i installed some app from elsewhere than Market, i played a little with spare parts i think. When a tried to install from market it didn't work.
- Try to clear market app cache, doesn't change anything.
Sorry if it was a long read, but i think that maximum informations can help you to help me
Oh, Youtube don't lauch anymore too (but that was before the cwr misadventure)
Thank you,
David
ps: sorry about my english
Try using titanium backup to clear data for google framework and market. Also make sure your wireless isn't blocking any traffic. This happens to me on my work network sometimes.
if i don't have titanium (no market at all..) the clear data from google framework is similar to that (found in another thread)?
settings->applications->manage->all
finf google services framework and clear the data then force quit

i give it a try.
is it the "google apps" one in applications list?
So it is not the google apps.. i try to update the market to 2.2.6. Search works but download doesnt start at all..
anybody has can hint me about this google framework..
Double post..
I was in the same situation- I also have an NC, 1.1.0, autonootered 3.0.0 and I installed ROM Manager (v3.0.1.0) from the market and used it to install CWM 3.0.0.6 by choosing "Nook Color" rather than "Nook Color (old)" at Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I then did the reboot before rebooting into recovery and then wiped the cache and tried to wipe the Davlik cache, but every time I chose that it just went back to the same menu without doing anything. I then flashed Dalingrin's OC kernel and it seemed to work fine- SetCPU allowed me to OC up to 1100. BUT I lost access to the Market- everything I tried to install came back "Download Unsuccessful".
I finally, after much reading, removing CWM and reinstalling it 2 or 3 times etc. tried choosing "Nook Color (old)". This installed CWM 3.0.0.5 which DID let me wipe the Davlik cache and then when I installed the OC kernel it worked and I could download from the Market again.
So I would get yourself back to just a rooted nook (using clockwork removal if necessary). Then use ROM Manager to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery, but make sure to choose "Nook Color (old)". Then make sure to reboot (power off and back on you NC) and go to ROM Manager and reboot into recovery. Once there wipe the cache then go to "Advanced" and wipe the Davlik cache (I think this is the crucial part). After this I went ahead and flashed the OC kernel, but you could just reboot and hopefully you'll have access to the Market again like I did.
Good luck!

This method does still does not allow access to all the apps, only more.
Is there a chance that the google framework is missing?
I can see this framework on my phone, not on my nook.. What can i do please?
first thing tonight: i will check if GoogleServicesFramework.apk exists in system/app
Back, tonight was movie night with my girlfirend.. So i didn't played with my nook..
This morning i used rootexplorer to check if there was a GoogleServicesFramework.apk in system/app. It was not.
I tried to disable More locale app (it used to translate the devices texts in french) hope that "google framework" was baddly translated in app list..
Can someone confirm that the "google framework" i'm looking is the "GoogleServicesFramework.apk", and where is it on the nook? If missing, can i just put it with root explorer? Can the "clockwork removal" have beeing a cause on it's vanish?
Next time i have time i will try the Crispian Solution too..
Look for googleframework services in titanium backup. Select it and a little window pops up with options to uninstall and such. There is a button on the right that says wipe data. You can do the same for the Market.
As i said, googleframework service is not in titanium backup list..
I will try the CWR method asap.
grmph, tried to wipe dalvik and partition cache using working recovery.
Didn't work ..
i mean market does not work better..
Gtalk isn't working anymore too..
What if the framework service isnt listed in Manage Applications (all). This is on a rooted nook running stock 1.1.
are you telling that's normal on stock rooted nook 1.1

that's not what I am saying. I am saying I cannot install from the market and I don't even see the google framework listed under manage applications with the all filter selected
oh sorry, so you have the same problem ..
As i live in france i don't care about B&N app and shops i consider upgradding to froyo on emmc.. It will resolve my problem i think?
Possible solution
Same issue here. Color Nook v.1.1 rooted with Autonooter 3.0.0.
Market was working fine, then stopped. Returned to stock, then rerooted. Market worked for 10 apps, then stopped again. Clearing all cache did not fix. No sign of Google Services Framework in app list.
However, I found Download Manager and DownloadAdmin in the apps list and cleared the data for those (cache had already been cleared -- I used Gemini App Mgr for one-button clear-all-cache). Market is now working again.
Hey im on ICS 4.0.3
I updated my rom from an earlier beta of the same rom after wiping (I didn't need to, it was my choice ). So after a few days i got tired of not have all my abbreviated words and names etc (FB sync is not currently working on this rom) so decided to restore the data from TB.. It said all went well and a reboot is usually required. So reboot. Soon as i reboot i get "Unfortunately Android keyboard has stopped working". Keep getting this every so often.
My attempted solutions
- Used TB to restore data + app
- Clear data from dictionary provider, android keyboard and User dictionary
- Reflash rom without wipe
- Clear cache (from CWM) and Dalvik and fix permissions
- Reflash again
- Use logcat to find the file and delete the problem file (didn't understand it and couldn't find the files )
- Can't even go into settings > language & input every time i try i get "Unfortunately Settings has stopped"
I disabled android keyboard and the pop up stopped appearing (when the other two were disabled the error still appeared).
I have now installed swiftkey X trial and it works but i would very much like the stock android keyboard back. I still cannot access language & input
Thanks for reading and replying
P.S. I have tried searching a few keywords and i haven't found anything. I have not changed language, and as said i have cleared the data from the above system apps.
*BUMP*
One bump then ill accept no-one has an answer..
Generally clearing data from android keyboard and dictionary should have worked..
you can try clearing data of both using titanium backup..
if that also isn't working, I saw that you have written reflash rom and reflash rom without wipe in steps taken.. did you try to reflash rom with wipe?
that should definitely work, right
Have no idea how it worked but clearing the data from TB instead of from the individual apps via manage apps has worked!! I always thought that option would delete the backup but then i looked at it properly and saw the delete button beneath it.
Now ill try restore dictionary one more time as i know how to fix the problem should it arise again.
Btw I didn't want to try with wipe because I couldnt be bothered to back up everything again, I think there are going to be some updates in the next week and just seems too much effort
I am having the same problem

TB = Titanium backup. Root is required as far as I know. And you clear the data by finding the app under the backup/restore tab pressing on keyboard app and the dictionary app and press on wipe data. Let us known if it goes well.

no, the problem still persists,
m using htc hd2 ICS cwm
problem solved
i had to reset\erase factory setting from CWM,
So basically everything was erased from phone
note
when i restored backup from sd card, i started getting back error msg,
advance restoring system also gets problem back,
only restoring Sd ext3 or mounted restore doesnt creates any error on keyboard error.
on my case TB didnt helped
