Use superoneclick root instead, if there isn't an option for your kernel.

You don't use download mode for that. Just tick on settings - applications -development - usb debugging mode, connect your phone to your pc and press the button. Click.

Hello! Last week I tried many firmwares but I decided to restore the original one using KIES.
To restore the stock firmware I downgraded to JF3, than used Kies's test mode to update.
After having turned the phone on I went in the info section of the settings and I get these data:
2.1-update1
I9000XXJM2
Kernel version 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
ECLAIR.WXJM3
How can be possible that after 2 odin flashes and a kies upgrade I still have root? How can I remove it if I have to send it back for warranty? Thank you very much... have a nice day!
I forgot to say that I used the CSC CSC_I9000HUIHUI that I have found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7822645&postcount=167)
Where are you from? i didnt think JM3 was available over Kies anyway? try flashing again and check re-partition in Odin.
i used the JM1 from here:
https://www.wuala.com/Samsung Galax...ginal Firmwares/Europe/July/?key=AfzUZSU4SpKU
and it worked fine with no root, make sure u flash CSC, PDA and MODEM
I am Italian... and I updated using Kies_1.5.1.10071_32
you cant have flashed properly, read the steps in the BIG FAQ under app development in this forum. or just do what i said above
I flashed using re-partition, with
s1_odin_20100512.pit
CODE_I9000XXJF3_REV03_LOW.tar
MODEM_I9000XXJF3.tar
CSC_I9000OXAJF3.tar
than I updated via kies
I don't think the "root" in the build details means you have a rooted phone - I believe it's because it was compiled by someone logged in as root on a computer at Samsung. Root on your phone is really just a matter of having the su command and the Superuser Permissions application.
Do you have that application? If you run a terminal emulator and type su, does it work?
I didn't try the su command also because I didn't have the the app in the list. Anyway this is very strange!
I agree this isn't strange at all really, you should only be worrying about this when you actually need to send it in for prepare anyway

What is your kenel version?
Does anybody know how can I change it?
[email protected] #2

is your phone rooted too?
Rooting your phone has nothing to do with that '[email protected]' string. That is from the firmware developers, probably was there on the JF3 firmware you put on, or was given because you used the test mode.
Rooting your phone doesn't change that [email protected] or [email protected], it is absolutely irrelevant. Your phone is not rooted unless you did it yourself.
is that a problem when you send it for warranty?

Probably. You have installed an experimental beta firmware. But again, it always depends on the guy at the shop.

Check if your phone can go into download mode or not first.
Switch off the phone first. Then press volume down button the home key and the power button at the sam time and switch on the phone! See if you can go into download mode or not and take it from there.
Cheers!

if you can falsh clockworkmod then I'd reccomend the voodoo kernel with lagfix once you have tried that you'll never go back makes the device soooooo much faster.
you have to be careful to disable it if you flash something else or if you want to upgrade via kies or so on but well worth the effort
the flashing process is a little scary first time as it will take upto 20minutes to convert (depending on how much crap you have installed) but if you back up using CWM first then you'll be fine one way or another. I also find darkyys recovery rom brilliant if you really screw things up (like forgetting to remove lagfix before you flash something new )

As has been said time and time again, you need to be able to go into Download and/or Recovery Mode to do any flashing with your phone, keep trying until you manage it, sometimes the buttons are tricky to hold down properly.
To get to download, turn the phone OFF, then hold down the up volume and the home button. While keeping those depressed, hold down the power button for four seconds, which is about the time it takes for the log screen to appear, then disappear or change. Continue holding down the volume up and home buttons for a few more seconds, then release them together. After a few seconds you should get the Android road sign.
If that doesn't work, experiment with different amounts of time, holding the buttons longer or shorter.
If it just doesn't work, then yes, it is Jig time as JJ said.
Thanks again guys for your help. what is the Jig solution.??????????.
Cheers
Antony.
super one klick will root your device or you can flash with odin a custom kernel with root in. (like supercurio's or hardcore's)
jig is a micro usb device that can bring your telephone in download mode when is dead!
hi to all thanks for all your help with my sgs.

i could find so many development menu in this forum so i dont knw where i should search that thing.
download superuser from the market, if you can use it then your phone is rooted
thx mate
i can download and run superuser bt theres nothing in it.
no apps list and no log information appears.
does it mean mines not rooted? or yes?
only apps that requires root is displayed in the apps list and log. yeah your phone is rooted if still in doubt find an app in the market that requires root
gud gud gud
hmmmmmm thx.
bt why my phone is so gay if my phones already rooted?
everyone says phones r getting faster at running apps or else but mines so slow.
anything i hav to do for that?
rooting is the same as having administrator rights on windows pc, it doesnt improve anything but instead gives you rights to modify your system. try RAM Manager Free from the market, it can improve your phone.
you can also download CF-Root-ext4-v1.3-Addon.apk from chainfire's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108&highlight=chainfire
after you download the .apk put it in your phone and install it, open the app and click convert to ext4. this is basically a lagfix.
IF u want ur phone faster and stable and long battery life life try to install custom rom. It depends upon ur test which one u like...i suggest you to install DarkyRom its much stable , faster and better battery life..!

Follow the tutorial on a rom, what you want to install... I think you will have to root your device, then go to JVU Stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread rom, then you free to install any CM9 or CM10

First xou have to root your device, then you have to install the cwm recovery, download the Rom and the gapps from a thread. Next you have to do a backup if you want to go back to 2.1. And after this you have to do a full wipe from recovery and then install the Rom and afterwards the gapps and then reboot.
Hope i helped
You can try superoneclick to root your phone. I was on 2.3.3 I9000M and rooted using one click tool. The tool supports many other models. Make sure USB debugging is enabled and all the drivers are installed. Connect your phone and turn on USB, choose auto under Exploit section and click root. Download the tool (Latest Version) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If rooting process is Successful, superuser will be installed automatically in your phone.

did you figure anything out? I found the firmware (2.3.3) for my model and country (Trinidad and Tobago) at samsung updates but my problem is that I don't know which Odin program to use for my model.
I was thinking about using the update method intended for the GT-I9000 to update my I9000T to gingerbread. Apparently the phones are identical except that the GT-I9000T supports 850 MHz 3G while the GT-I9000 supports 900 MHZ 3G instead. I am wondering if it will work without bricking my phone
Hello all,
first please accept my apology for asking a questions that are probably too easy for most of you but I have spent several hours reading this forum and other sites but still cannot fully understand it, so I would really appreciate if someone could help me.
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone and would like to use Android 4.2 or higher on it. If I understand well I firstly have to ROOT the device.
First I downloaded the Odin software and then according to all tutorials I should download a CF-Kernel file for my device. And this is where my problems start as I do not know which file should I download or better to say did not find it.
Could you please assist me and help me download the CF Kernel file and guide me through the whole process? Many thanks to anyone who will help me!

First of all, here is the file: http://download.chainfire.eu/98/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XW_OXX_JV1-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1_NO-CWM.zip
1. You know Odin right? Yeah, so I suggest you use Odin 1.87
2. Download the file in the link.
3. Ensure you have the samsung drivers installed
4. Get your phone into Download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power)
5. Now open Odin and you will see a Button named PDA. Click on it and browse to the CF file you downloaded.
6. DO NOT check or uncheck the tickboxes towards the left.
7. That's it! Click on start and it'll do the Magical stuff!
NOTE: This Kernel doesn't include CWM. You will have to flash that manually.
